Route 4 Vincent seemed to enjoy seeing his Drowzee anticipate what he’d say next. The hypnosis pokemon, Drowzee, seemed to try and anticipate what you’d be doing. His Forewarn ability let him know your strongest move, and so far it seemed to be Strike. Unless, of course, you used Bide. When Meditate backed up, and started to Meditate, the Drowzee raised an eyebrow, or eye muscle. Vincent even seemed to question what was coming next. The boy didn’t know exactly what he wanted to do, but had a plan forming in his head. ”Drowzee, come here.” Vincent called him back towards him, crouching and started whispering. The pokemon turned around, facing Meditite as it rushed for him. Your foe seemed to want to time something; Meditite extended his fist, powered up by the Meditation. The punch landed on the pokemon’s shoulder, as it whipped its head around, delivering a mean Headbutt to the gut! ”Wow, they are staying close.” Vincent said, probably meaning strength or energy wise. ”They do seem to be pretty good, and match each other a lot. Right? Are you getting a little nervous?” Vincent’s ego was up.

Mumbling a light curse under his breath, Chris couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed. Drowzee was pounding on Meditite, and so far the fighting/psychic type only gave him a bruise. The match was clearly one sided, with Meditite being taken down. Chris struggled with the desire to call his Pokemon back and just end the battle, with his loss. Meditite wasn’t ready for this kind of fight, none of his Pokemon were. But he kept his hand gripped on the Pokeball, refusing to recall his Pokemon just yet. They still had some time before it was his defeat. But what could they do. Vincent wouldn’t let him use Bide again, he’d make sure Drowzee knocked Meditite out before the attack could finish. And Meditite was too injured to use Bide anyways. There had to be something they could do. A plan slowly formed in his mind, and a smile appeared on his lips. “Nervous, not yet.” He looked at Vincent for a moment, and then turned his attention to Meditite. "Stay close enough that Drowzee can hit you, but far enough that you can dodge his attacks easily. Tease him. If you see him pause to figure out your strategy, use that time to focus your power with Meditate. But if he looks like he’s going to attack from a distance, rush in with a Strike.” A tendril of understanding drifted in Chris’s mind, and he knew that Meditite understood. If they could wait out the Disable of Detect, then they had a much better chance of winning. Baiting Drowzee with physical attacks should keep the psychic Pokemon from resorting to psychic type attacks, and if it did use such attacks then Meditite could get a quick shot in. It was the best strategy Chris could come up with. If it didn't work, then he would have to conceed his defeat. Edited: Changed the commands given. Second Edit: Changed some inconsistencies. Route 4 This battle was proving difficult for both you and Vincent. No matter what, the other seemed to have something to deal out damage. It was getting both pokemon annoyed, no doubt. Meditite was given some instructions, but so was Drowzee. They both seemed to pretty much be the same thing. When things like this happen, nothing is done. Though, the stare off started and when nothing seemed as if it’d happen, Meditite quickly got into a stance to meditate! His boosted attack would prove well, but unfortunately, the Drowzee got him in a Confusion. It didn’t do nearly as much as Vincent or the Drowzee would want, but enough to hold you back for a few seconds for the next move. It still hadn’t been fast enough for the hypnosis pokemon; Meditite’s fist landed hard across the cheek, knocking over the pokemon. It was, however, time to use the next move that Drowzee himself wanted to use. Not exactly going with the plan, the hypnosis pokemon used just that—Hypnosis! Meditite fell to the ground, sleepily. His body seemed to be sluggish, slow, and weakening as if his entire world was being gassed with sleeping spells. It still seemed to be there, so to speak, but was out of it. After waiting to see what happened, it finally collapsed. Vincent looked sinisterly over at the sleeping pokemon, as he had full control to beat on it to win!

Chris watched as Meditite began to nod off. He mentally cursed himself for being so careless, as he recalled a most important fact. Drowzee are called the ‘hypnosis’ Pokemon for a reason. Already Chris could feel the tendril of thought gently pulled from his mind, as Meditite finally succumbed to sleep. Looking at Meditite’s sleeping form, Chris was tempted to call the Pokemon back and declare it his loss. Besides, it looked like Vincent was enjoying this fight way to much. He pulled out the Pokemon’s Pokeball and called him back inside. “I’m done. Continuing wouldn’t be worth it.” He hated giving someone like Vincent an easy victory, but there was nothing he could do. Meditite was nothing more than a punching bag for Drowzee, and the look on Vincent’s face said as much. He couldn’t let Meditite get injured, not by someone who enjoyed such things. Bringing the Pokeball close to his lips, Chris praised the one inside. “You did a good job. It was just bad luck that we had to fight a second time.” A brief tendril of thought brushed his mind, before the Pokemon fell back asleep. Chris smiled and turned a serious eye to Vincent. “Nice battle. Your Pokemon fought better this time around. But I’m not about to let Meditite or any of my Pokemon get beaten up while unconscious.” He gave the trainer a nod with a smile, then turned around to head for town. But before he started he spoke back at Vincent. “I will say this though. This is the last time I’ll battle someone as dishonest as you.” He tucked the Pokeball inside his jacket and began his trek back to the Pokemon Center. He didn’t want to fight the trainer a second time. In fact he shouldn’t have had to fight him a second time. But that’s what the brat wanted, so there wasn’t anything he could do about it. Looking at the 5th addition to his Pokemon team, Chris could only give a slight smile as he walked. At least he finally got a fire type to help with his training. |

Route 4 Vincent found you walking off, and it seemed to have crushed his spirit. His pride felt as if it got Stomped by a Miltank. Walking away from a battle was cold, and it sure was something he didn’t like to do himself. Looking towards Chris, the boy called out. ”Chris, it isn’t exactly a one-on-one, so you can send another out.” Vincent showed a side of him. Not letting you give up was a respectful deed. Besides, you may have won Torkoal, but he could tell you wanted Houndour. It was a way to train his pokemon, as he seen it. Drowzee was standing still, waiting to see what would happen. Vincent understood how he had been misguiding, and probably should have stated rules clearer, especially since he was the one making the match. A simple error, but one that bought you time. The hypnosis pokemon didn’t seem to attack, nor did the team opposing you have plans too. A free turn to watch go bye, while Meditite was free from attacks. It could awake next turn, if lucky. Things seemed to be going moderately good now. //Short ref is short, sorry. Edited by Kazuki, Mar 22 2011, 10:33 PM.

Chris stopped in mid stride, glancing back at Vincent shouting at him almost desperately. Apparently this was going to be a repeat of their last battle, except this time Vincent had a different roster of Pokemon to use. In a way Chris was tempted to just keep walking. But the thought of Houndour still being used as a prize just kept him still. Finally giving a sigh he turned around and returned to where he stood before. “You could have mentioned that sooner.” Chris looked at Drowzee for a moment as he thought about his next move. After seeing how the psychic Pokemon battled before, Chris almost wished he chose Houndour as his claim instead of Torkoal. But which of his Pokemon would be the best against this strong opponent? Wingull was the fastest Pokemon he had, and the most agile. He could easily keep out of range of the psychic Pokemon’s physical attacks and attack from a distance with Water Gun. However with Disable Wingull could be prevented from using his only advantage, and one Hypnosis would spell a bad end for the flying Pokemon. Pichu was fast as well, and had some skill on the ground. Unfortunately he was still weak, and not really trained to listen to Chris. Most likely the Pokemon would end up hurting himself more than his opponent, with or without Drowzee’s help. Spinarak was out of the question, if anything because the bug type was also weak against psychic type attacks. He could limit Drowzee’s movement and chip away at the Pokemon slowly, but not before he got knocked out with a well placed Confusion. That left him with two Pokemon, and one was out cold for now. He reached into his coat and pulled out his new 5th Pokemon, a slight smile on his lips. “I tried to think of which Pokemon would be a good match against your Drowzee. Unfortunately the one that would have been a best match is currently taking a snooze. So I’m going to use one that would be perfect, if not unexpected.” He tossed the Pokeball towards the ground, calling forth Torkoal to stand before them. The fire Pokemon stood there rather oddly, as if it doesn’t understand why it was on this side of the field. Chris kneeled down to talk with the fire Pokemon before the fight began. “I’m sorry to call you out like this, especially since we just met. But this is a battle against your old master and Drowzee in order to win your friend Houndour to our side. With your help we can bring you two back together.” That seemed to ignite a fire in the Pokemon, and it gave a determined nod as small trails of smoke came out of his nostrils. "Tor...KOAL!" Chris stood back up, pulling out his first Pokeball. He called forth Meditite next to him, who was still dreaming peacefully in dream land. “I hope you don’t mind if Meditite takes his snooze there. If you do I can always call him back.” Chris pointed at Drowzee with a determined sound in his voice. “I know you probably know Drowzee better than I do Torkoal, but lets win this fight. Use Smog and cover wherever Drowzee might escape to. If he charges forward to hit you, I want you to Withdraw into your shell and withstand the attack. Then counter with a Bellyflop if you can. If not then head butt it with a Strike.” If they could poison the psychic Pokemon early enough, then all they would have to do is wait it out. If Chris remembered correctly, Torkoal was one of the strongest Pokemon defensively. That meant that it could probably last longer than Drowzee in a battle of wills. Chris just hoped that Meditite woke up before then, or else he might wind up taking the loss a second time. |

Route 4 The Torkoal was sent out and looked as if it had a dilemma. You sent Vincent’s former pokemon out against him… It was slightly confused, as to who it should attack. You were giving the commands but the last time it checked Vincent was his trainer. The boy seen this, a slight weakness or hesitation as to what the turtle was doing. He started to giggle a little. ”Sending my former pokemon out at me? It doesn’t know who to really attack!” Vincent said, watching carefully. It abruptly exhaled a purplish cloud, and the Drowzee wasn’t fully aware as to what it was. Vincent yelled out about not inhaling, but it seemed too late. The tapir-like pokemon seemed to have inhaled some, coughing up all kinds of things. With it poison, things might go a little easier. With it coughing, it didn’t seem to be ready to attack and why wait. The Torkoal tried running as fast as it could, which wasn’t like a tiger or anything, but fast enough to get good Belly Flop in there! The turtle was considerably heavier and dealt a very good blow! ”Oh man! Torkoal seems to be turning this around.” Vincent said, perhaps having second thoughts as to getting rid of it. It was too late, of course, because you had wanted it and now you had it and you wouldn’t be giving it up! The Drowzee didn’t seem to attack, though. It stopped coughing but seemed very “out of it”. The smog and extreme weight on it seemed to daze it for the moment, but you’ll have to see how the next round goes! You ![]() Level 9 43 / 43 87%Vincent ![]() Level 13 24 / 51 70%-2 HP | Poison |

Chris did a small fist pump in the air. With Torkoal being heavier than Drowzee, Belly Flop seemed to deal a good amount of damage on the psychic type. If they kept the fight close to the psychic Pokemon they might be able to force it to fight close distance. And if Chris was right about Torkoal’s defenses, Drowzee would have a hard time hurting the fire type with even his head. “Great job Torkoal. Use another Belly Flop, but if Drowzee attacks use Withdraw.” The biggest problem that they were going to deal with was Disable and Hypnosis, the same two attacks that took Meditite out of the fight. If they kept Drowzee defending, maybe it wouldn’t have a chance to use them. Chris glanced down at Meditite sleeping on the ground, hoping there was some change in the sleeping Pokemon’s condition. However the psychic/fighting Pokemon just kept sleeping away, with the occasional snore mixed in to a meditative sleep. It was so rhythmic that Chris almost dozed off. But he quickly snapped himself out of his stupor and turned to pay attention to the fight. Hopefully Torkoal could buy enough time for Meditite to wake up…. |

Route 4 Vincent grimaced. You seem to have found a way to be a thorn in his side, once again. Drowzee wasn’t a fist type pokemon, using Strike was something he’d love to ignore. He had two moves that he could use to really annoy you. It didn’t seem they were going to attack until Torkoal went in for a Belly Flop. Vincent had mere moments to try and thinking. Drowzee was close to him, due to the previous attack. Kneeling down, Drowzee lend his trainer an ear. Vincent mentioned using Disable AFTER Belly Flop, making your side of the battle a little harder. It was ok, because Drowzee was able to use a Strike at the same moment! Though, you can guess whose attack won. A belly flop, or a strike. Yeah, Torkoal towered and tumbled on the body of the psychic type. ”Drowzee!” Vincent let out, seeing a disfigured hand sticking out of the mess. The yellow skin revealed it had to be the one and only Drowzee. With a hand broken, this battle could be more troublesome. His pokemon got up, after Torkoal moved off of him. It seemed beat, torn, exhausted. He was able to muster strength and energy needed for a Disable, catching Belly Flop with powerful psychic tendrils that were unseen. ”Oh man.” Vincent was worried. His hands glided up and through his hair, brushing it back and revealing his face with more emphasis. The Drowzee was damaged, and the battle could take a terrible turn real soon. Chris watched as Torkoal was really giving it to Drowzee. It was going better than Chris hoped, as the fire Pokemon might win this battle soon. However he knew they couldn’t let their guard down yet, as that was his biggest mistake when fighting with Meditite. Vincent was obviously having a tough time against his own Pokemon. “Lets keep it up Torkoal. Don’t look it in the eyes and keep up the pressure.” After watching one of his Pokemon fall victim to Hypnosis Chris didn’t want another to suffer the same fate. Besides, Meditite didn’t seem to wake up yet. Chris pointed his finger towards Drowzee. “Hit it with another Belly Flop, and follow up with Ember.” He felt it would only be right that his fire Pokemon actually used a fire type attack in the battle. “Torkoal!” “Use Withdraw if Drowzee tries to attack.” Chris glanced down at Meditite, still sleeping on the grass. He really hoped the psychic/fighting Pokemon would wake up soon, if only be ready for the next fight in case Torkoal fell. Torkoal was a strong tank, but even tanks can get knocked over. He turned his attention to the battle at hand. Actions: Ordered Torkoal to use a Belly Flop followed by a Ember, and Withdraw if Drowzee counterattacked. |

Route 4 Drowzee seemed to be getting a little tired, and the hurt hand, poison in his veins, these factors didn’t help. They were getting to him. As Vincent commanded the Drowzee to do something, the pokemon moved forward. This caused a shock of poison to carry itself further into his body, and halted the psychic type. In time, Torkoal came crashing down on the poor guy. It was if the empire state building came down on him. Drowzee couldn’t breathe this time; Torkoal’s full weight knocking it out of him. As it tried to get up, he was only met with a cruel fate of Embers; pellets roasting the ground and scorching his legs. The assault, plus the poison and hurt hand, the Drowzee collapsed. ”Oh darn!” Vincent bit down on the tip of his thumb. A worried expression showing itself, a side you don’t see every day with Vincent. It was down to one last pokemon, which he knew he might be able to mess with you some more. ”Alright, one more pokemon. You win against this one and you get to take Houndour home with you.” Releasing a sphere from his fingertips, it soon popped opened and the light materialized into a pokemon you don’t normally see. “Alright, great job.” Chris let out a call of praise to his new Pokemon, as Torkoal flattened the troublesome psychic Pokemon. And the follow up with Ember was enough to knock Drowzee out and claim victory. Torkoal seemed to be the best Pokemon for battling, and Chris knew that Vincent must have felt bad about letting it go. Chris walked forward and pet Torkoal along the neck, showing it how much he was thankful for the win. “You did a great job Torkoal.” “Torkoal.” The next challenger appeared, and Chris looked at him in shock. An Yanmega, the evolved form of Yanma. That usually meant a really tough Pokemon. Chris brought up his Poketech with the Pokedex option. “Yanmega, the evolved form of Yanma. Yanmega’s jaws and wings are incredibly powerful. It is very adept at biting apart foes in mid flight. And it also accidentally knocks down full grown trees when taking off.” Chris compared the picture on the Poketech to the actual Yanmega. Like Vincent’s Arcanine, Yanmega seemed to be very young and inexperienced in appearance. That meant that the Pokemon before him might have evolved early as well. Looking up the way Yanmega evolve, Chris let out a slight smile. “You must have spent a lot of time working on that Pokemon.” Standing up and backing away, Chris never took his eyes off the flying bug Pokemon. “Well don’t think we’ll be giving up.” However Chris was biting back his fear. If this Yanmega did learn Ancient Power in order to evolve, then Torkoal might be in a lot of trouble. Evolved Pokemon tend to do a lot more damage than their unevolved forms. Arcanine was a prime example of that. After seeing what the Ember did to Meditite, Chris could only dread what it might have done to Spinarak. This time they were going to have to get creative. “Alright Torkoal, I want you to use Smog. This time spread it out and don’t focus on Yanmega.” This was going to be something he never tried before, with a Pokemon he just received from another trainer. “Once you make sure Yanmega is inside, I want you to use Ember and try to ignite the gas. If Yanmega tries to attack with Ancient Power I want you to dodge it.” Chris had no idea if the Smog was actually flammable, though he sort of hoped it was. It might give his Torkoal’s fire attack a little boost in taking out that flying bug. If it wasn’t then this would be a waste of energy if Yanmega escaped unharmed. Chris really hoped Meditite would be ready to battle soon. He looked down at the snoozing Pokemon at his feet. Well Disable at least must have worn off by now right? Actions: Ordered Torkoal to use Smog to cover a large area and Ember to try and light it. Also to dodge if Yanmega tries to use Ancient Power. |

Route 4 Vincent returned your smile with one of his own. Your comment on spending time on him was just that, time wasting. Though Vincent did train him and tutor him the move not too long ago. It was a good thing he had, because now he gets to test Yanmega’s strength out on you. While things were going to get really good, Yanmega’s ability activated, and its speed increased. Vincent noticed a faint and quick glow about the insect, thinking now would be a good time to tell you about it. ”If your poketech hadn’t already told you, Yanmega’s ability (one of them) increases his speed every turn. You better find a way to faint it quick, or else you’ll be having a very fast insect on you.” With that Vincent chuckled. His desire to win grew, as seemed his ego. Torkoal was ready, and started to pump the purple-colored smoke from his body. The cloud shrouded your view of the insect, but in an instant later, you seen Yanmega up in the air. Whether or not he was affected by the Smog was unclear to you as of now. It didn’t seem to be hurt that bad, physically, but as it came down towards the Torkoal, it shook—poison coursing through its body! That was the least of your worries. Yanmega started to gather some sort of energy, something that was turning into a rather large orb. Torkoal had one last resort, and that was trying to set the Smog on fire. With Yanmega’s wings fluttering the entire time, the smog was fading and the Embers only went through it. A few fiery sparks hit Yanmega’s tail, dealing very little damage. With all this time going by, Yanmega was finally ready; the orb of light shifted and hovered, with haste, towards the Torkoal. As it did, the turtle tried to move but the ball was too quick and the impact had made the ground shoot up, having some of the energy knock into Torkoal anyway. Seeing the turtle down, Vincent gave the final order in which the Yanmega swooped in and delivered a Strike, fainting the turtle. ”Woohoo! Yanmega is even better than Drowzee.” Vincent cheered, showcasing a huge smile. He had finally fainted one of your pokemon. Chris gritted his teeth as Torkoal tried its hardest to combine the attacks. Unfortunately that didn’t seem to be the case, as the flying bug escaped with little difficulty. Vincent’s mention of Yanmega’s ability was right on the money. The giant dragonfly was getting faster. However what came next was definitely hard to accept, as Yanmega released a powerful Ancient Power. Chris watched helplessly as the tortoise like Pokemon tried in vain to get out of the way. He cringed when Torkoal was thrown back by the force of the attack, and then knocked out by a swift Strike to finish the job. Torkoal lay there still, obviously knocked out by the attacks. Chris pulled out Torkoal’s Pokeball and called back the fire Pokemon. He looked at the Pokeball with a smile, glad for the effort that the Pokemon put in. “You did a great job. We’ll just have to try harder next time.” He placed the Pokeball inside his jacket and looked at the Yanmega. That was going to be a hard Pokemon to beat, and he wasn’t even sure if Meditite was up for the challenge. A slight tendril of thought brushed his mind, and Chris looked down in surprise. Meditite was standing up and stretching his arms, awake and alert. It had watched the ending with Torkoal losing, and it was ready to take a shot at it. Chris gave a smile and nodded, and the fighting/psychic Pokemon stepped forward. “Glad to see you had a nice nap.” Meditite gave a sarcastic comment back telepathically, though Chris could tell it was still shaking off the effects of Sleep. They both looked up at the Yanmega with determined eyes. “Alright, Yanmega isn’t the best match up for you. Like Vincent said it has the ability Speed Boost, meaning it will only get faster. We have to strike hard and fast, and not let it get up to speed.” Meditite gave a nod. “Medi.” Chris mentally calculated everything he knew up to this point. Yanmega was newly evolved, so it wouldn’t know a lot of attacks like a normal Yanmega. That meant they might have chance as long as they fought smart. However Meditite was still a bit groggy and injured from the fight with Drowzee. So what can we do? The tendril of thought from Meditite showed him the image of the Twisted Spoon the psychic/fighting Pokemon held, and Chris looked down at it with a smile. That was the perfect toll to use against a fast opponent like Yanmega. “Alright, let’s do this. Meditite, focus your mental energy with the Twisted Spoon and try to feel where Yanmega’s mind is at all times. If it tries to attack from a distance use Detect to avoid and then use Confusion to try and ground it. If it comes in close with a quick fly by attack I want you to dodge and come at it with a strong Strike. And if you think you have enough time, I want you to focus your power with Meditate.” The psychic/fighting Pokemon’s mind might be faster than his eyes, and with Twisted Spoon Chris only hoped it would be able to keep up with the fast Yanmega. Meditite was still inexperienced as well, and Chris didn’t have time to teach him any of the moves he wanted to in order to give the psychic/fighting Pokemon a better chance. However this was a battle that neither one of them wanted to lose. Actions: Gave orders to watch Yanmega with Meditite’s mind and not eyes. If attacked from a distance then avoid with Detect and counter with Confusion. If attacked up close, then dodge and counter with Strike. All other times use Meditate. |

Route 4 A small frown appeared on Vincent’s face, seeing Meditite as a bubble buster. His “interest” bubble burst as quickly as Yanmega took out Torkoal. All because a familiar face showed up; but the boy realized that the psychic type wasn’t that much of a threat, in fact; he was cocky enough to believe he could wipe out Meditite. Yanmega was doing alright, speeding up as his ability kicked up once more. Unfortunately, the bug had been poisoned and would have a nuisance from now until something was done. The pair looked on; Vincent’s eyes scanned the psychic type, looking for an opening while Yanmega stayed calm in the air, hovering about shoulder height. ”Yanmega, finish him. He was the one who first fought against Drowzee.” The boy commanded, and Yanmega followed up with a speedy Sonic Boom. The air wave shot forth, nearly taking Meditite out before being mysteriously blocked right in front of its target. This pissed the boy off a lot. ”What the hell..” Vincent said, raising one eyebrow. A palm came up and hit his forehead, as he punished himself for forgetting Detect. Yanmega started to glow right after that. The Confusion didn’t seem to do a hell of a lot, but something more then what maybe Torkoal could’ve done. In fact, with his ability, Meditite proved to be a formidable foe for the insect as of now. However, it jerked forward in another swift movement, knocking the Meditite backwards. It was a Sonic Boom, and the move took out a definitely amount where Meditite might not be in this battle too much longer! ”Once I get rid of Meditite, I’ll get to see your other pokemon!” You ![]() Level 11 23 / 47 71%@Twisted Spoon* Vincent Level 14 36 / 53 80%+2 Speed | Ability -2 HP | Poison //*Forgot to mention it.
