Chris couldn’t hide the smile that spread on his lips, as he watched his plan unfold. For his first trainer battle this was going very well, but he knew he shouldn’t get cocky. If he kept Wingull at a distance, then Sandshrew would be at a big disadvantage. He just hoped the confusion would last. He was slightly surprised that Water Gun didn’t do more damage. He was confident enough to think it would at least stagger the ground Pokemon, but instead it seemed more like a glancing blow. Maybe he didn't know Pokemon that well yet. “Keep it up Wingull. Stay out of close range and keep using Water Gun. If it breaks free of the confusion use Supersonic again.” The flying/water Pokemon landed before Chris again, just long enough to catch its’ breath and take off once more. Chris watched with interest as the battle unfolded, wishing that the next attack would produce better results. His other Pokemon enjoyed the match, though Meditite still had Pichu riding his back. Route 4 Vincent was standing still, trying to think of what to do next. With Sandshrew confused, there wasn’t much. Certainly he should try breaking it through voice, and try reasoning the mouse. You certainly knew what you wanted to do, and so Wingull tried his first Water Gun of the round. It dowsed the Sandshrew, causing it to spin about after not breaking its confusion. At first, it seemed like Sandshrew was calming down, but after it hit itself, it turned to face Wingull with an evil glare. You knew it wasn’t fine until it hit itself, and Vincent smiled. When Wingull used Water Gun (which he didn’t realize the mouse snapped out of confusion), the Sandshrew was figuring out what to do for itself. ”Sandshrew, if an attack is coming, you have to protect yourself. For now, just use Poison Sting, twice. We have to poison the Wingull!” Vincent told Sandshrew, instructing him further. The mouse seemed to like the idea, and turned quickly as it shot a small projectile that struck Wingull. As the bird was taken by this, another one struck it. Fortunately, Sandshrew’s trainer got what he wanted. You Lv.8 35 / 41 | 82%-2 HP | Poison Vincent Lv.10 16 / 45 | 84%+1 Defense |

Chris’s smile turned to a stunned look, as the tiny needles shot out at Wingull. True he managed to weaken the ground Pokemon further with Water Gun, but now Wingull was poisoned. Again! It was the main reason he pulled the flying/water type from the battle with Grimer, because it was poisoned. Now he was away from the city, and no way of curing him easily. However that was a problem for the future. Right now he had a more pressing problem. And that was to defeat the Pokemon before him before the poison did its’ job on Wingull. From how weak Sandshrew looked, he guessed about one or two more attacks could finish it off. He just had to watch out of the Poison Sting now. “Don’t worry Wingull, keep it up. I know it hurts, but you almost have him. Stay in the air and use Water Gun. Also watch out for the Poison Sting. If you see it coming, roll out of the way and hit Sandshrew with Water Gun from the side.” He watched as the flying Pokemon landed in front of him again, this time a bit roughly before taking to the air again. "Wing....gull." He hated seeing his Pokemon suffer like that, but knew that the only way to help it was to end this battle quickly. Meditite and Pichu cringed when they saw Wingull get poisoned, Pichu closing his eyes as he held onto Meditite tightly. Spinarak however seemed to enjoy the battle, obviously wishing it was in there fighting against the mouse like Pokemon. Chris just watched with a serious expression on his face, knowing that right now was a bad time to be cocky. |

Route 4 ”Sandshrew, hurry, use Poison Sting to worsen it. He has too big of an upper hand in this fight.” Vincent called out, finally showing a level of concern that wasn’t present before. He now had more to want, but it wasn’t so clear to you. The Wingull got into range and position. The Sandshrew shot a Poison Sting as a Water Gun was released. The two collided, however, the poison sting washed away and the Water Gun hit Sandshrew—it’s power wasn’t as strong, but still did enough. ”Oh no! Watch out, Sandshrew!” Vincent shouted, raising his voice more so that the mouse could hear him. It was too late, and very unfortunate. Sandshrew was hit with a blinding Water Gun, one that proved to be a critical. ”Damn! Oh well, return Sandshrew.” The sphere absorbed the mouse, but when a second one was revealed, it let loose an Arcanine! ”Try him out for size!” Still part of this round, it fired off an Ember at itself, boosting its power for future rounds. Chris gave a slight smile as the ground Pokemon went down, glad that the battle was over. But his victory was short, as he saw the next Pokemon released. No matter how Chris thought about it, the Arcanine seemed as inexperienced as his own Pokemon. Despite its’ evolutionary stage. Maybe the guy decided to evolve it early with the Fire Stone. Whatever the reason, the fire Pokemon was going to be a big problem. Looking at Wingull Chris didn’t want to make the bird Pokemon to stay in the battle. It was injured and poisoned, which would only make it harder for it to dodge or attack. Plus he already took out one Pokemon, so in a way he had paid his dues. But at the same time he didn’t want to send in Meditite against a powerhouse like Arcanine. There had to be something he could do to even the odds. That’s when he remembered he had something in his backpack. He reached inside one of the pockets and pulled out a silver spoon that was bent and twisted. It was a tool that provided focus for psychic Pokemon, and was the perfect thing to tip the battle in Meditite’s favor. He pulled out Wingull’s Pokeball to call the Pokemon back. “You did a great job Wingull. Return.” The water/flying Pokemon happily returned to his Pokeball, glad to be out of harms way. Chris pulled the Pokeball close to his mouth as he whispered his thanks. “You did good. Now rest. If things get tough I might call you back out.” Slipping the Pokeball into the inside pocket of his jacket, Chris handed the Twisted Spoon to Meditite. He then picked the small electric Pokemon off his back and placed him on his shoulder. “Alright Meditite, you’re up. Be careful.” The psychic/fighting Pokemon gave no indication that he heard Chris. He just stood up from his lotus position and walked forward until he stood across from the towering Arcanine. He held the Twisted Spoon in his hand tightly, focusing his psychic energy through the metal. Now was the time for battle. “Alright Meditite, watch Arcanine carefully. If it tries to physically hit you I want you to use Confusion to throw off his aim and then dodge out of the way. If he tries attacking from a distance, if you can handle it use Bide. But if you can’t I want you to avoid and attack with Confusion.” Meditite made no effort to acknowledge Chris’s commands visually; however Chris felt a tendril of thought that told him the Pokemon understood. Actions: Called back Wingull and sent Meditite out with a Twisted Spoon. Gave orders to attack and avoid, or avoid and attack. |

Route 4 ”Sending out Meditite? This will be most interesting to see a giant dog fight a tiny fighter.” Vincent seemed to turn into a cocky bastard, believing that already he had won. ”To tell you the truth, I evolved Growlithe when he hit a certain point (level 10), so he has moves that only that form can use. This could be a downfall for you.” Again, Vincent sounded cocky. It wasn’t long after that Arcanine charged up what looked to be an Ember. The canine would probably size you up, taking it not so hard on you just yet until it got the feel for you. That was a logic and strategic step in most battles. However, you had something up your sleeve. As Arcanine fired an Ember, Meditite felt as if it could take the damage by using Bide. Already, the little fighter was building up power that could become devastating. After a few seconds, Arcanine did it again, feeling ever so lucky to be dealing free hits. Hell, who wouldn’t take them. But the canine soon realized something was up. It stopped attack just for now, but it seemed awfully curious as to why you let it do so. The Embers were powerful, and having Flash Fire didn’t help at all. Maybe Meditite shouldn’t have used Bide, but it was a little late now. Plus, to deal the damage it had to endure some. It was most terrifying to watch. Luckily, Arcanine laid off for the rest of the time this “round” seemed to exist, but it grumbled and growled towards you, warning you it wasn’t over. If you can manage to stay safe for a little bit, maybe Meditite could deal a devastating blow. Chris cringed as he saw Meditite take the brunt of the attack, mentally cursing himself for giving such a command. Pichu seemed stunned for a moment while it rode on Chris’s shoulder, and then with a loud cry leapt towards Meditite in an effort to help him. Chris barely managed to grab hold of the electric Pokemon, getting a nasty shock as a result. The little electric mouse turned around with angry eyes, yet looked shocked at what he saw. Chris was hurting as much as Pichu and the look in his eyes showed he cursed his mistake. Reaching for Meditite’s Pokeball, Chris prepared to call back the fighting/psychic and end this battle. But the moment he touched the smooth surface, a tendril of thought ripped into his mind. It was a strong feeling, one that stopped Chris cold. It wasn’t hatred for making Meditite do such a stupid stunt. It wasn’t a feeling of abandonment from a Pokemon obeying a suicide order. It was a feeling of determination, one that would not break even in defeat. Meditite sat in a meditative state, storing the power that it gathered from the enhanced Ember attacks from the big dog. He looked completely calm and cool, despite the flames that pelted his body. But even though he seemed oblivious, he knew what Chris was planning. And he was making it perfectly clear that if Chris tried calling him back, he’d turn the Bide energy right on Chris. It was his choice to fight this way, and he was going to see it through to the end. Chris withdrew his hand from the Pokeball, his eyes fixated on the calm Pokemon. A brief glance at the other Pokemon showed him that they also felt the thought, and even the squirming Pichu seemed still and accepted. Spinarak gave a look that said it was behind Meditite, and Chris felt that it would give the psychic/fighting Pokemon a good thrashing if it lost this fight. But Chris had to have a plan, if anything to allow time for Meditite to focus. His mind drifted along that tendril of thought, allowing the Pokemon to hear his thoughts. Meditite, hang in there. His mind drifting back to what the guy said Chris spoke loud enough for even Arcanine to hear. “You evolved him at such a low level? No wonder he seemed weak.” He wasn’t trying to upset the fire Pokemon into attacking. He just hoped that he could cause him to pause for a moment. “I’m not talking about his fire power. That’s obviously very strong.” He motioned to Meditite just sitting there. “I’m talking about skill. If I recall, a Pokemon evolved using a stone has a harder time learning moves than in his previous evolution. Sure they become stronger, but they lose the versatility that they can only gain through experience.” He pointed at the scorch marks around Meditite. “Your attack is pretty strong. I think it might be the reason my Pokemon is so still. He was probably stunned by how strong the attack was.” He then gave the guy a grin that he hoped would unnerve him. “Or it might be that my Pokemon didn‘t feel like it needed to dodge.” His grin increased, hoping he had both trainer and Pokemon thoroughly distracted. “Did you know that Meditite is a physical attack Pokemon, yet it doesn’t learn any physical attacks until it gets close to evolving? Yet it is born with a very interesting attack.” Hoping against hope that he provided enough distraction, Chris pointed at the large dog with a determined look on his face. “Meditite! Go for it!” |

Route 4 Vincent frowned. He wasn’t born yesterday. Your attempt at trying to bait him, distract him, and keep his sight off of Meditite was futile. The boy put a hand on his hip, and shrugged with the other. He glanced between the Arcanine and you. ”I know that Meditite used Bide; I know it reuses all the power. But that is the thing, Meditite looks ready to use it, but he isn’t.” Vincent was partially correct. The Meditite had to stay dormant for two turns, and while the second round was beginning, there was still a chance to get Arcanine out of danger. ”Like this, Arcanine use Ember.” The Arcanine went to use Ember, but the sight of Pichu trying to save the Meditite meant that it felt how powerful it had been. This was a major ego boost to the canine, which would end up helping you in the long run. Recalling the fire to his gut, the Arcanine didn’t attack, shaking his head to Vincent. ”What!? I wouldn’t take the Bide attack; the two Embers were strong. You may be close to fainting.” Still, the Arcanine refused. What could he do? Vincent sighed, and seemed to be pissed. He couldn’t believe that his pokemon got a major ego boost and now wanted to receive a hit just to boast about how strong he was. Deep down, you knew Bide more than Vincent, and knew that Arcanine might not be standing. Chris bit back his words as the boy spoke, cursing the fact that he overstepped the bounds. He was hoping the young man didn’t know about his own Pokemon. Especially since the fighting/psychic type wasn’t common in these parts. But Vincent knew his Pokemon, and especially knew about Bide. That meant that he would do everything he could to knock out Meditite before the attack finished. Or at least that’s what Chris thought when he gave the order to attack. But instead of actually attacking, Arcanine withdrew the order. From what Chris guessed it was ready to take the attack, prove how strong it was compared to Meditite. Bust Chris knew that with the amount of damage Meditite took the large dog wouldn’t be standing afterwards. It would be an instant victory for Chris….but was that a good thing? His eyes trailed to the Pokemon that were ‘up for grabs’. Did he really want to get the Pokemon that way? Had it been a real battle, Chris should have kept his big mouth shut and just focus on his own Pokemon. Maybe he should just give up on the whole thing and declare his loss. Another tendril of thought pierced his mind, one that was of disappointment. This time Meditite opened his eyes and looked back at Chris, showing that he was still more than willing to fight. But the tendril of thought gave the impression that he knew what Chris was thinking, and that he should stop. Chris looked at the psychic/fighting Pokemon, and his eyes trailed to Arcanine. The fire Pokemon was doing this on his own, regardless of Chris’s talking or his master’s orders. It had its pride on the line, and that was the only reason it was willing to take the attack. Chris could only smile. “Arcanine, I don’t know if you know this saying. ‘Pride cometh before a fall.’ But if you want the attack, you’ve got it.” Chris motioned out towards the large dog as soon as he felt Meditite was ready. “Alright, time to pay him back.” |

Route 4 The tension of Arcanine to Medtite stayed the same, up until Arcanine decided that he was bored waiting and would attack to finish off the fighting-psychic type. As the large canine went to open his mouth, with intents of a powerful Ember, it was met with a much larger type power. Meditite’s Aura changed very quickly, and a powerful attack seemed to come and go within seconds—almost too fast for anyone to recognize it. That was the power of Bide; if the user can withstand hits, it can be more powerful than the attacker. Luckily, Arcanine did wait for a chance to meet it, but it came close to attacking. The blast seemed to knock the canine out immediately, forcing it to be nothing more than a lump on the field. ”No way! That was way too easy!” Vincent was ashamed of himself, his battling tactics, and a little of his pokemon. He looked between the pokemon that he wanted to get rid of, and the pokemon you owned. ”Let’s both run to the Pokemon Center. I’ll grab the best two pokemon I have, and you heal up. Winner can take the two pokemon. I’m not letting you off easy!” The boy seemed to be very selfish, putting his pride first. If you want the two, all you have to do is finish another two pokemon battle, and who knows, maybe it’ll be a double battle for things to get done quicker. Accept?

As soon as the battle was over Chris recalled Meditite. The little guy was so worn out from taking the attacks that he just stayed sitting. With a smile Chris spoke softly to the protected Pokemon. “You did great. Had me scared for a minute, but you did great.” Chris felt a small tendril of appreciation coming from the Pokemon, and he smiled as he set the Pokeball on his belt. Looking up at Vincent going into his mad vent, Chris couldn’t help but feel the guy was a sore loser. Yes his Arcanine didn’t obey him, but that was because he didn’t train it right. Evolving it with little experience made it over cocky, and Chris’s words just proved that. But to challenge Chris again just because he lost, and denying him the Pokemon he fought hard to earn showed Chris that Vincent himself was inexperienced. Chris didn’t want to battle again, yet at the same time he didn’t want to walk away empty handed. So a compromise was in order, one that Chris hoped Vincent would honor. “You lost the battle, and now you say it’s not enough. You put those Pokemon up as a prize for beating you, and now you are backing out.” He motioned to the Pokemon that were supposed to be ‘up for grabs’. “I won these Pokemon fair and square. But if you don’t think that’s enough, then lets alter the challenge. I’ll accept the second battle, but on one condition. The battle will be for the second Pokemon, because I think I already earned the right to own at least one of them.” Pointing at the Torkoal, Chris gave a nod. “That will be the one I earned in this fight. And I will earn the Houndour in the second as well. I ask that you please accept, because if not I’ll be more than happy to tell the authorities and nurses at the Pokemon Center why my Pokemon are injured.” It was a cheap tactic, but Chris was annoyed. His Wingull was poisoned and his Meditite was almost fried to a crisp to gain those Pokemon. And now Vincent was being a sore loser, and denied Chris his prize. If this continued….shaking his head Chris turned around and headed for the Pokemon Center. Right now he didn’t care if Vincent would accept the change or not. He didn’t want to battle with Pokemon being the prize, to him they were more than mere objects. They were living beings, and should be treated that way. He had won the fight, and that was more than enough for him. He didn’t have anything to prove, he had already won. So even if Vincent denied him the Pokemon, he didn’t care. |

Route 4 Vincent glared at you. He started to abruptly laugh. The laughter went on for a few long seconds. When he was done, he continued his glare at you. ”You think turning me in to authorities is the way to go? Nurse Joy will know you had a pokemon battle, and that is it! The police can’t do anything, because we don’t have a written commitment. You’d be a fool.” The boy’s attitude definitely changed. It went from a calm and soft boy to now a serious and sturdy one. He wasn’t going to play into any threats. But his face soon showed that he was hard at thinking about the proposition you presented. If he earned the one, and he could get the other pokemon, then it would be better. He might actually have a chance. ”Fine. Torkoal?” The boy recalled the turtle-like pokemon from the side of him. The Houndour’s eyes went soft, and a little teary. No time was wasted getting rid of Houndour to the sphere, either. Your hands went up and you caught the pokeball well. Vincent turned, and walked. He went towards a house before going to the Pokemon Center, and you’d meet in the same spot. After everything and you both returned, Vincent put a Pokeball on the ground. He moved his hand to three other pokeballs and released one pokemon. It was a Drowzee. It was a psychic, and could use some troublesome moves. At least that is what the Poketech would tell you, but Vincent didn’t seem like he had that much experience in pokemon battles, but enough to match your own team. Level 13 |

Chris didn’t like going back for another battle with Vincent, but he didn’t have much of a choice. At least he kept his promises, unlike the inexperienced trainer with the poor sportsmanship. But when he arrived back at the spot, he wasn’t surprised to see Vincent waiting for him. The Pokemon Vincent sent out surprised him a bit. Chris figured that at the very least it would be a flying type or something to combat his Meditite. But Drowzee was a psychic type, which Chris knew without looking it up on the Pokedex. But he glanced anyways at what kinds of attacks Drowzee could learn at early levels. After reading the ones on top, Chris gave a slight smile and put it away. He reached into his coat and pulled one of the full Pokeballs and held it in his hand. He wished he had enough time to teach this Pokemon some moves before this rematch, because it wasn’t really ready for this type of match. However among his current Pokemon it was the best one. “Alright, let’s try our best.” Chris tossed the Pokeball towards the ground, and it opened up to reveal Meditite sitting there in his meditative state. A tendril of thought told Chris that the Pokemon had gotten stronger, telling him what the Pokemon learned from the last fight. A slight grin appeared at the corners of his mouth, as he looked towards Vincent. “I never introduced myself before. My name is Chris, and sorry if we started off on the wrong foot. I was just mad that you wouldn’t keep your promise, so please forgive me.” Meditite stood up off the ground, his eyes open in a determined look as he gazed at his competitor. Chris also looked at Vincent with the same determined look. “I hope that you will keep your promise this time, and that we have a great battle.” Chris pointed at the Drowzee intent with giving the first order. “Meditite let the Pokemon come to you. Use Detect to avoid the first attack, and if you can follow up with a Strike.” "Medi." They had to refrain from using psychic type attacks against the opponent. Chris knew that it would do little to nothing against him, and the main reason why he wished he had time to properly train Meditite in other attacks. None of his other Pokemon were ready to deal with a psychic type either, so Meditite was his best bet. He just hoped that his change in strategy might throw off Vincent. |

Route 4 ”Oh, I will. This is my last battle.” Vincent said, keeping his ego intact and his serious expression on the entire time. He found Drowzee to be a good opponent if one of the moves would continue to work. While the Drowzee was about to go towards Meditite, the psychic-fighter started to use a strange move, and it caused Drowzee to miss on his Strike attack. Not wanting him to use that again, Drowzee started to use an even stranger move. Vincent seemed please, ”Good job, Drowzee!” Meditite soon felt as if Detect was unusable for a while. But it wasn’t over. Drowzee figured Detect was gone, and to try and fight back now. While your pokemon moved in, Drowzee figured what move he’d use. A punch landed across the anteater-like pokemon’s face, making it cringe. But as Meditite was still around, the Drowzee whipped around his large head and leaped into the fighter. A headbutt was the result, and a powerful one. It had forced the Meditite to go crashing on to the ground, knocking all balance from it. ”Phew, not a bad round!” Vincent said, looking at your pokemon who had been on the ground. Drowzee’s cheek looked as if it was swelling, but it could still fight. Meditite seemed to be holding its stomach, obviously hurt from the Headbutt. It was his bestbet to utilize all of Drowzee’s moves.

After realizing what had happened, Chris couldn’t help but shake his head. The opponent had taken away his main advantage and sealed it. Temporarily, but it was still annoying. The only thing they had left was either fall back on using Bide, which was risky. Or change to the tactic they used when fighting the Spinarak. That latter was the better option. After all, Vincent didn’t know how that battle went. “Meditite, put some distance between you and Drowzee. Focus your energies with Meditation, and then rush in with another Strike. Avoid Drowzee’s attack if you can.” If they could get a leg up on the psychic Pokemon and strike harder than the Headbutt, then they have a better chance of knocking the Pokemon down the size. Chris just hoped Meditite’s Pure Power wasn’t equally disabled, because that last hit seemed pretty weak. Commands: Back up to use Meditate, then rush forward with a Strike. Avoid attack if possible. |
