Glancing around Chris tried to figure out where they were. In his mind the police should be there soon, however he wasn’t sure if his dad got the message. Usually his father had his phone with him all of the time due to his research, and he was never one to ignore a text message from his son. So Chris was confident that the police were on their way.

But they weren’t the biggest thing on his mind. The drugged fire Pokemon was standing before Chris in pain and suffering, and it looked like the drugs were starting to lose their effects. However Chris knew the possible effects of such drugs on a Pokemon‘s system. Spending time with his parents around their research had given him some insight into the side effects and crash times of certain drugs, and randomly created ‘research’ like this could prove fatal to a Pokemon. They needed to get the Ponyta to a Pokemon Center fast.

That meant doing something Chris hated to do. And that was to hurt an already injured Pokemon. The Ponyta was already in pain from the serum injected into him, and he just crashed the lab where he was injected. His mental state was focused around that pain, and no amount of talking could calm down a Pokemon that didn’t want to listen. You’d have to be psychic to reach….

Chris’s eyes grew wide. That was the answer he was looking for. If he could somehow reach the Ponyta and keep it calm, then they have a chance of getting it to the Pokemon Center with little difficulties. The less they hurt it the more likely the fire Pokemon could recover.

Glancing at the Pokemon he had out Chris gave a slight nod. “Pichu, I want you to use Charm on him again. Keep using it until he’s can’t really hurt us.” The adorable electric Pokemon gave a cute squeal before moving forward. Looking at Houndour he continued. “Houndour if he tries to flee use Fire Spin to keep him in place. Between the paralysis and Fire Spin he won’t be going anywhere.” The dark/fire Pokemon nodded once before moving into position. Fire Spin shouldn’t do any damage, but it should be enough to keep the drugged Pokemon immobile.

Finally turning to Meditite Chris kneeled on the ground. The psychic/fighting Pokemon looked up at him expectantly. “I’m counting on you most of all Meditite. In need you to act like a bridge between me and Ponyta.” Meditite looked at Chris curiously. “I need you to project my voice and my thoughts into his. Break through his barriers, make him hear me when I speak. Force it to where he can’t ignore my words.” After a gentle probe of Chris’s thoughts Meditite gave a nod of understanding.

Standing up again Chris walked towards the suffering Pokemon. “Ponyta. I don’t want to hurt you. I know what the scientist did to you, and it was wrong. He shouldn’t have done that, and he won’t do it ever again. Let us help you. We can take you to a Pokemon Center and they can heal you. You won’t have to suffer like this again. Please let us help you.”

Meditite focused his psychic energy through the Twisted Spoon he carried. By Chris’s orders he tried to force the words into Ponyta’s mind, without harming the fire Pokemon more than needed. None of Chris’s Pokemon wanted to hurt another outside of an honest battle, but each knew that they didn’t have a choice. They couldn’t let any Pokemon harm innocent humans.

I'm not sure I quite expected you to try and help this Ponyta in the way you are doing. I fully expected a duel to the death, with you attempting to win through any means necessary - not an attempt to convince this Fire Horse Pokémon to calm down so he could be taken to a Pokémon Centre. However, I suppose this is the most humane kind of way (obviously can't be humane, he's a Pokémon after all!) to sort out this rather bizarre situation. Of course, considering you had no idea about what drugs had been injected into him, any kind of telepathy used to communicate with this drugged up beast could have a number of impacts upon his poor psyche. Thankfully, it seemed that charming the Ponyta was having the normal impact - so that effects of the drug were being effectively negated for any physical attacks the Fire Horse elected to dish out.

Not that he would, mind you - I don't think he has the spirit left in him to turn on you when in a state of such agony and distress. “Ponyta. I don’t want to hurt you. I know what the scientist did to you, and it was wrong. He shouldn’t have done that, and he won’t do it ever again. Let us help you. We can take you to a Pokemon Centre and they can heal you. You won’t have to suffer like this again. Please let us help you,” you called out, hoping that your Meditite transferred your words to the drugged up animal in the desired way. It honestly seems strange to me that you can communicate in such a way with a Pokémon, but I suppose that's the way this world works. Any form of logic that would be suitable in reality flies straight out of the window and off down the motorways.

"Thank you, kind stranger," a gruff and solemn response echoed inside your head, prompting a small lurch back on your part. Seems Meditite's telekinesis works both ways - and a good thing too. "I regret my moments of madness, and I hope you can forgive me for all I've done to you," the Ponyta continued, momentarily stepping forward towards you - before stumbling down to the ground, the paralysis and the drug working their magic upon his legs. "Maybe I don't deserve to be forgiven. Maybe I don't deserve to be healed, and allowed to live," he admitted, the Fire Horse seemingly agonising over his actions ever more. However, you couldn't help but notice the clarity within his voice. Somehow, you believed he would have been unintelligible to listen to when totally drugged up to the eyeballs - so maybe this was the time that the drug was finally being ejected from his bloodstream?

Whether that was going to the be the case or not, you weren't sure - but in a flash, hooves clashed with concrete one last time, before a mere 'thud' ended this fray. I'd wager that the drugs had taken their toll upon the poor Ponyta - and that, just before he fell, he was finally relieved that his nightmare was over. This does mean your Pokémon aren't going to get any benefit from 'beating' the Fire Horse Pokémon, but I suppose that's irrelevant to you right now.

With this Ponyta out for the count, I'm not sure how much time you'll have before a mere knockout turns into something much worse. Hurry!

Looking down at the fainted Ponyta Chris could only feel guilty. It was a terrible way to stop the poor Pokemon, but it was the only way he could think of. He could have fought the Pokemon until it passed out. Thinking back his Pokemon could have used the combat experience. But he couldn’t. Ponyta was suffering too much already, and this was the only thing he could think of.

It took him a moment to realize that time wasn’t on his side, so Chris used his Poketech to send a message to the nearest Pokemon Center:

“Mom, E36! Ponyta, male. Location ******”

Chris had gone to work with his mother enough that he knew the emergency codes for the Pokemon Center. It pretty much meant ‘Emergency, injured and drugged Pokemon’. It didn’t give any specific information on the type of drug administered, but he didn’t know what it was either. And after the fire Pokemon wrecked the lab he doubted that any traces of the drug were left.

Once the message was sent Chris looked down at his Pokemon. Each were proud of what they did to help, and so was he. Now all they could do was wait for help to arrive. Walking over Chris laid a hand on the fallen Pokemon, feeling the irregular breathing along his flank. He just hoped they would get here soon.

You certainly have your contacts, don't you? Father in the field of science, mother in the medical profession, it's almost a surprise to me why you never sought to join either in their work. Of course, you're a teenager trying to see the world before considering such a thing - a choice like that can wait until you're ready, right? Regardless, you have bigger problems on your hands - something to do with a conked out horse in the middle of the street. Can't imagine where that came from...oh wait, yes I can. Yes, I'm slightly out of the loop once more, but I doubt you'd really care. Either way, we march onwards, as we always must. By the way, could you give me a full list of those emergency codes? Would be really useful in the future, if you know what I mean.

With the message sent off to the Pokémon Centre, all you could really do was wait. Thankfully for you, the Pokémon Centre wasn't all that far away, considering you had literally passed the damn thing on the way into Doctor Rossi's underground laboratory. Mere fleeting moments passed, before two individuals, each wearing medical uniforms (one in blue, the other in pink), passed through your field of vision at a rather startling pace. Suppose these were the two sent by the Pokémon Centre to help take care of the stricken Ponyta? "We had a call from the Centre about a drugged Pokémon. Is this Ponyta the Pokémon in question?" the female nurse queried rather sternly, glancing across to you for the first time.

Called it, didn't I?

You could only really nod in response - as cute as this nurse was, her tone of voice was rather frightening. Of course, the matter at hand called for speed - so trying to be nice about the situation would have been less preferable to getting the information out sharpish. The doctor by her side couldn't help but note one small issue with this little situation - especially as their initial checks proved something that not even you had realised. "Maria, there is no way in hell we'd be able to get this Ponyta back to the Centre. We're going to need to transport him in a PokéBall," the doctor muttered, pointing out that they themselves had none of the red and white capsules to hand.

On that note, the nurse Maria could only nod. "Kid, we're gonna need your help," she stated, turning to you once more. "If you didn't know already, this is a wild Ponyta - and given his size, we have to transport him in a PokéBall. If you have one to hand, we'd really appreciate it if you would let us borrow one," Maria requested, prompting your brain to consider the options. It seemed like a no-brainer really - the Ponyta had to be brought back to health in some way or another. More importantly, however, if you agreed to lend a PokéBall to the nurse and doctor, that Fire Horse Pokémon would then belong to you.

Not the doctor and nurse duo - you.

Choice is yours, Chris - I'm sure you'll make the right choice.

Standing to the side Chris watched everything going on. Meditite, Pichu, and Houndour watched with interest as to what was going on. With a few practiced leaps Pichu perched on Chris’s left shoulder while the other two watched through gaps in the people. Already it seemed that others had taken an interest in what was going on.

When the two medics mentioned transporting the Pokemon in a Pokeball Chris didn’t hesitate. He pulled out an empty one out of his backpack and tossed it towards the doctor. “Here. You can use this.” He wasn’t going to be the one to catch the weakened Pokemon. He might injure the poor thing further. Better to let a professional deal with capturing and transportation. He was going to follow after to make sure he could relate everything that happened to the staff though. It might help the fire Pokemon’s chances for survival.

It really was a no-brainer, wasn't it? With such an ill Ponyta in need of immediate attention from the nearest Pokémon Centre, providing a PokéBall to give these two medical associates a helping hand was almost necessary. "Much obliged, young man," Maria, the nurse, stated, allowing your PokéBall to slip calmly into her far more delicate and tender hands. Within a matter of seconds, the PokéBall you once owned had been softly brushed up against the stricken Fire Horse Pokémon. If there had been any resistance from the drugged Ponyta, it was invisible to the naked eye - the capsule snapped shut with a faint click. "From the condition he seemed to be in when we got here, this Ponyta will need a great deal of treatment," the nurse admitted, calmly settling the PokéBall into her pocket. "You can wait around the Pokémon Centre until we're finished applying the necessary procedures to bring him back to health, if so you wish," she added, almost veiling her true recommendation that you shouldn't stick around to wait - who knows how long healing this Ponyta would take?

"Given how much you've done for this Pokémon, neither of us are against you taking ownership of him once he's ready to be brought out of the Centre. If you're going to wander around the town for a bit, feel free to come in and check up on him. When we're done with the treatment, the PokéBall will be ready to be collected when you arrive," the doctor admitted, nodding in appreciation of what you had done to calm the rampant Ponyta - it seems your chase through the Town Centre hadn't gone unnoticed by the people within the Pokémon Centre. Of course, there was the small matter of informing the medical profession of the Fire Horse's situation was just important, in their eyes. "All the best to you, young man," he stated, following his female colleague down the street.

Whether you decide to return to the Pokémon Centre is entirely up to you - as that is just one of a number of options you have available to you at the moment. Given the disparity in strength between your strongest and weakest Pokémon, you may decide to venture out a little into the wild countryside to give your weaker partners a chance to catch up to your Meditite - I'm sure there are plenty of wild critters that could be perfect cannon fodder for your Lapras.

However, your third and final option was possibly the most intriguing, what with a rather large crowd of people huddled around a man stood upon a bench. It appeared as though he was stood next to one of those flipcharts you'd find in schools and colleges - and was a significantly rich man. Even from his attire you estimated that his wealth was over twenty times your own, if not more. That probably explained why he seemed to have no issues with rattling a suitcase that appeared to be packed with money in front of him. Quite how no-one had considered stealing the case from him, you weren't too sure - until you spotted a trio of Pokémon stood behind him. Two appeared to be around your level, but it was impossible to tell how strong the third was. All you knew was that he was incredibly powerful - your entire party would get annihilated by him. "Come one! Come all! Solve the riddles on offer and help yourself to the prizes in store!" the man boomed, waving the suitcase around once more.

You weren't entirely sure what was on offer - but maybe it would be worth a try?

Watching as the medics captured and began to head for the Pokemon Center, Chris looked like he was about to follow when he heard the call coming down the street. Turning to the crowd that had gathered he pulled out his Pokemon’s Pokeballs and called Pichu and Houndour inside. Making sure they were tucked into the lining of his coat he walked over with Meditite climbing onto his shoulder.

Looking out over the crowd Chris gave a low whistle at the suitcase full of money just sitting there. It was like the guy was just asking to be mugged, even if the Pokemon were formidable. Meditite looked at the money disinterestedly, instead seemed to focus more on the Gallade. A slight spark appeared in his eyes as he thought of the challenge the fellow psychic/fighting Pokemon might give him.

Feeling the mental connection Chris gave Meditite a slight flick on his head. The young Pokemon looked at Chris annoyingly. “Don’t even think about it. Even I can tell you’re way out of his league. We’ll keep training until you’re strong enough to take him.” Meditite settled back with a grudging “Ok, ok.”, but didn’t take his eyes off the powerful Pokemon. A slight smile played at Chris’s lips as he looked at the man once more. “And what are the riddles?”
