As you stepped onto the streets of Millenia, you could feel a fresh breeze lightly wrap around your ankles and cool you. Millenia is one of the region's principle cities because of its economic purpose in Alternia. It is a balanced and peaceful environment, mixing agriculture technology and sea life beautifully. So basically you made a good choice in selecting your city; lets just try not to get you into any trouble while your here.

You stood on the edge of the beach, the salty sea breeze stinging your nose. Many children ran around onthe beach and many teens sat on the shore, or tanned their cancer absorbing sells to death. There seemed to be some sort of even going on, there was a banner nearby which had pictures of pokemon on it, a group of teens congrgated around its base. Wingull and Pelipper landed in the water, one Wingull however landed on the shore nearby. You heard some giggling, it was coming from a group of girls amidst the teens near the banner, they motion for you to join them, but at this point the Wingull was at your feet, pecking at them, hoping for a tasty morsel.

:wingull Lv. 6 :male

There was alot to do, would you go for a swim, battle a wingull, by an ice cream, join the girls, or leave the beach and head into the city.

Welcome to Alternia.

Chris looked out over the waters that surrounded the island, slowly breathing in a deep breath of the salty sea air. He had always enjoyed living on the island; it was a mix of both worlds that he enjoyed. The scientific discovery of his father and the bustling city, mixed with the more natural discoveries of his mother and the world around them. Being the only world he’s known, Chris couldn’t help but admire it.

His eyes drift to the local Pokemon that live on the island, both in the sea and on the land. His eyes slowly drifted to the group of girls that seem to be eyeing him, and his face turned red and he looked away. That was about the time he noticed the Wingull nearby, and his normal color returned to his face. His hand slowly went to the new Pokeball on his belt, his fingers wrapping around it.

Earlier that day his father gave him the Pokeball, as well as the Pokemon inside it. A young Meditite that was now healthy and full of life. It had a horrible experience when it was growing, being a Pokemon born of two types it’s’ body was adhering to one of the types more than the other. Chris’s father managed to create a device that restored balance to it the past couple of months, and now it was as healthy as its’ brethren. Now Chris had it, and he was eager to see if it was up to battling.

Chris faced the Wingull that was nearby, tossing the Pokeball up and down in his hand. “Alright Wingull, I challenge you for your freedom. Win and you’ll go free, lose and you’re mine. Run and we’ll never know.” He gave a smile. He wasn’t the kind of trainer that would just catch a Pokemon for the fun of it. He wanted a Pokemon that was willing to fight, not one that’s forced to fight. A Pokemon forced to fight doesn’t give its’ all, it lacks the conviction to do its best. But a Pokemon willing puts its all into the battle, and is very hard to beat. He threw the Pokeball, releasing the Pokemon inside. “Meditite, let’s go!”

Meditite appeared from the Pokeball, his eyes closed and his body in a lotus position. He seemed to be completely at rest and calm, as if the entire world were nothing but an empty void. Chris had seen him this way before a few times. It was a meditation technique that allowed him to focus on the task at hand, and to use his abilities to the fullest. All Pokemon of the Meditite line had this ability, and it made them one of the strongest Pokemon because of it. “Alright Meditite, watch him carefully. If it looks like he’s going to attack directly, use Bide and send it back tenfold. But if he attacks from the side, be ready to jump to the side and strike it as it passes.” Meditite only gave a slight nod of recognition, before opening his eyes and focusing intently on the Wingull. "Medi."

The Wingull considered whether or not running would be the best option, but then happened to see your Pokemon as it was released from its Pokeball. The calm and serene picture of the posing Meditite chased away any fear that the Wingull had and replaced it with curiosity. It appeared that you had yourself a battle, trainer.

Seeing that you and your ally were preparing to battle and hearing orders being shouted out, the Wingull also prepared to fight, hoping to demolish your teammate and send you both to Davy Jones' Locker. It opened its mouth and emitted a piercing, shrieking noise that was high enough in pitch to shatter glass and certainly send anyone into epic amounts of pain. The soundwaves hit Meditite head on. Although outwardly, Meditite appeared to be as serene as ever, the smallest flinch on its face showed that the Supersonic attack was working on it as well. Suddenly, Meditite didn't seem nearly as peaceful as it had a few moments ago. Your pokemon was confused!

Seeing that the supersonic blast had come from head on, Meditite immediately tried to utilize a Bide, as per your instructions. Even though it was confused, it managed to enter a calm, submissive state and prepare to absorb damage. Unfortunately for Meditite, the Wingull didn't seem interested in entering a full-out brawl just yet. It hadn't become brave enough to try and provoke Meditite too much, and seemed content with using annoying, tricky attacks. The next noise Wingull made was a rumbling growl that was able to shake the nerves of Meditite, lowering its attack. The message it was sending was clear: you and Meditite were supposed to be the ones running away! Meditite calmly waited to be attacked, but nothing happened this round. Who knew what would happen next? The action is on you, trainer!

Chris watched as the flying Pokemon released an annoying sound wave. He knew what it was; his parents had taught him all about the different afflictions that could harm Pokemon. Confusion was one of the most annoying. However it looked like Meditite still had enough of a clear head to go into a defensive state, though it didn’t do any good when the Wingull followed up with a Growl. Chris focused on the battle at hand, trying to think of a way to turn this around.

“Alright Meditite, focus and clear you mind. Try and keep your focus, you can snap yourself out of this. You can do it, just focus on the sounds around you and try to put them in order.” Chris turned to the Wingull that was ‘playing’ with him and his Pokemon. He was going to have to do something; otherwise he was going to lose this fight. “I can see why you don’t want to get close, Meditite might be too much for you to handle. Even though he’s a fighting type, you probably couldn’t hit him if you tried. And here I thought all flying types were strong.”

Chris was obviously trying to get Wingull riled up enough to actually go in for a clean hit on Meditite. If not, then using Bide would have been a waste of energy. If he could get the Wingull mad enough, he might be able to get him to hit twice. “Course, that’s probably the reason you hit Meditite with his eyes closed. You were too scared to actually let him see you.”

Actions: Tried to get Meditite to snap out of Confusion, and needled Wingull.

Derping... All Day, Every Day!

You tried to clear your pokemon's mind. Meditite had a hard time starting to try and sort out the noises. Not to mention sorting out and recognizing your voice. He seemed to have put his hands up, sheltering his head. The petit eyes closed tightly, as you found him hard at work trying to snap out of this annoying ailment. After several moments of struggling, he found his way out. Of course, during all that time he was trying, you were trying to bait the Wingull. Just as Meditite snapped out of confusion, the Wingull attacked, using two consecutive Strikes.

As the Windgull went to move back, your Meditite caught it in a mean attack. That's right; your wish came true. The bird attacked twice, giving your pokemon enough power to attack back with Bide. As Meditite was ready, he unleashed a devastating assault. The move took a lot of damage out of Wingull! It left the bird feeling drained and almost crippled. At this rate, only one or two more attacks will do.

The trainer watched as Meditite struggled with his confusion, trying to clear his mind of trouble. After a few troubling moment, Chris could finally see the calm expression return. And not too soon, as the Wingull finally got the courage to actually attack directly after Chris’s goading.

Chris gave a slight smile as Meditite took the attacks, if only to turn around and return them to the attacker. It was a cheap tactic, and one that carried a lot of risk. Especially if the damage Meditite received was more than he could take. But it paid off beautifully, even though it had a rocky start.

Slipping an empty Pokeball out of his pocket, Chris looked for the right opportunity to throw it. The Wingull was willing to fight for his freedom, and it was Pokemon like that that Chris was looking for. Because Pokemon like that put their all in battle, and are willing to put more than just their pride on the line. “Give me a clear shot Meditite.” Meditite gave a nod and jumped out of the way as Chris threw the Pokeball. If this worked, Chris would have both a flying and a water type at his disposal.

As Meditite cleared the area, the Pokeball flew from your hands like a powerful thunderbolt flew from the hands of Zeus. You clearly respected the fighting spirit of the Wingull, and looked to make it part of your team strategy. The bird could barely even flap its wings let alone avoid getting hit with your capsule device, and was sucked inside in a strange red flash of energy. The ball rested on the sand and began to rattle.

Once.

Twice.

Three times........

The ball dinged and went white. Congratulations! You just caught yourself a Wingull!

:wingull was added to your team!
Wingull gained 4.2 exp!

Meditite gained 6 exp!
Meditite grew to level 6!

After the fierce battle completed, a strange, lanky teenager approached you from down the beach. He had purple-dyed hair whose length fell over his face, blocking off his eyes. He also kept looking down at the ground and kept his hands in his pockets. He spoke to you once he reached your earshot, and had a monotone, sullen voice.

"Hey. Good battle. Want to heal up and take me on?"

The lad was certainly not verbiose or even very active, but he appeared to have enough fiery spirit.... somewhere in his body. Enough to throw a challenge your way at any rate. What do you do, trainer? Do you accept his challenge? Go look for more Pokemon? Something else? It's all on you!

Picking up the now full Pokeball, Chris looked at the unusual trainer for a moment. While he did learn all about Pokemon battles by helping his parents, Chris wasn’t sure about challenging someone with a newly caught Pokemon. Actually he had just had Meditite fight for the first time just to catch the new Pokemon, and that was a touchy fight. He gave a slight smile and raised his hand to the trainer. “No thank you, I don’t think I’m ready to fight another trainer yet. But when I am, you’ll be the first to know.” With that, he turned to Meditite and held out his Pokeball. “That was a great job Meditite, but let’s go check and make sure you’re still healthy. Return.” The red light engulfed Meditite, and he returned calmly into his Pokeball. Chris then turned away from the youth and headed back into town.

He felt bad about leaving the trainer like that, but Chris felt it was the right decision. He was a new trainer, even with his experience working with his parents. He had just had his first battle with a Pokemon he received that was recovering, and a new Pokemon who he had just caught. He was confident that he could have beaten the other trainer, but wasn’t so confident that he didn’t know the risks. Too many trainers pushed their Pokemon to the limit, and that’s why his dad usually got called in to heal them. First Chris would catch and get to know some more Pokemon, and then he’d fight.

Weaving though houses and alleyways, Chris found the shortest path to the Pokemon Center. He was familiar with the city, and usually found himself running down similar shortcuts to try and beat his parents to places when he was younger. He knew the safe places, and the not so safe places. Right now he chose the safe path. He looked up at the giant Pokeball that served as the symbol for the Pokemon Center, and let a smile come to his lips. He then headed right through the double doors.

The Pokemon Center itself was clean and efficient like always, with trainers talking or waiting for their Pokemon. It wasn’t busy, which was usually a good thing. It meant that trainers were finally realizing that their Pokemon had limits, and that they weren’t all powerful fighting machines. A few nurses were talking to trainers, and Chris could detect movement behind the closed doors to the recovery room. He also spotted Nurse Joy talking with one of the trainers at the front desk, giving him a tray with three Pokeballs. Chris slid behind and waited for his turn.

The guy thanked Nurse Joy as he put the Pokeballs back on his belt, and turned and left. Nurse Joy noticed Chris standing there patiently, and gave him a big smile. “Why hello Chris. Are you here to help your mom in the back? I think she mentioned that the Tentacool just had a sprained feeler.” Chris shook his head and produced the two Pokeballs. “Actually I’m starting my own Pokemon journey, and I was hoping you could give my two Pokemon a check up. I think I hurt Wingull a little when I captured it, and I want to make sure Meditite is still healthy.”

Nurse Joy gave a smile and took the Pokeballs, laying them on the now empty tray. “Of course, I’ll take care of that right away. You can just wait over there while I take them back to your mom.” Chris gave a smile and walked to the bench along the wall. He knew he couldn’t receive special treatment now that he was a trainer; he had to wait like everyone else. He sat down on the bench and relaxed against the wall. He knew he didn’t need to worry about Meditite, since he made a full recovery. But Chris was still worried about him, and Wingull was pretty injured during the battle. With a sigh, Chris slowly closed his eyes as he waited.

A few moments later Chris felt a presence close by, and opened his eyes to see his mother standing over him. She was wearing her official doctors lab coat and her serious ‘business’ look on her face. Chris involuntarily squirmed under her gaze. “So, you brought an injured Pokemon into the Pokemon Center.” Chris seemed to cower under her gaze, as if he was still 10 years old. “And from what I hear, you’re the one that injured the Pokemon. Is that true?”

Chris began to feel there was a different reason behind this interrogation, and slowly sat up to meet her gaze. He knew he shouldn’t try to seem defiant, or else he would have his father to deal with. He took a deep breath, and gave her a relaxed smile. “Yes, I injured the Wingull. And in the process I got Meditite hurt. However it was the only way to catch Wingull, as it had accepted my challenge. Both of my Pokemon are strong fighters, and I won’t put them through more than they can handle.” A smile formed on his mother’s lips, and she took a step back. “That’s all I needed to hear. Keep that in your heart and in your mind.” With that she disappeared into the back room again.

A minute later Nurse Joy called Chris back to the front desk. “Here are your Pokemon. They are quite healthy, though Wingull might be a bit sore.” Chris gave a nod and placed the Pokeballs on the special latches inside his coat. He heard that some people actually steal Pokemon, and modified a trainer’s belt into the inline of his jacket. He thanked Nurse Joy and headed out of the Pokemon Center.

Looking left and right, Chris wasn’t really sure which direction he should choose. He wanted to get out of the city and into the surrounding area, but felt there might be something else for him here. With a shrug he began to head towards the industrial section of the city. Maybe he might get lucky and find an electric Pokemon to add to his team. He gave a smile at the thought, and knew he’d have to use Meditite in such a battle.

Alright, take two of trying to get this ref finished! Unfortunately, my first attempt got killed along with the tab when it accidentally closed, when I was half-way finished. But, no big. I am hyped up on coffee which should let me finish it again. To cut down on the pre-ref commentary that I had before, I'll summarize. You're posts are interesting, good job. You aren't here to read me rambling on about the quality of your posts, so here we go!

So, you decided to head deeper into the city rather than venturing outside of your hometown? I can't say that I blame you. After all, the world is intimidating, especially when embarking on a fresh adventure all on your own. Besides, catching another pokemon or two was surely a good idea to act as the pre-requisite to your leaving town. So, you walked down the path that leads to the Industrial District. Now, I'm really not sure about the layabout of Millenia, but I would assume in such a part of the town, your surroundings would be mostly of steel and iron. Which, y'know, means that you're in a pretty dark place already. Surprisingly, there weren't a whole lot of people around this area either. Strange.

But, people and the like aren't really what you set out over here to find. No, you were looking for pokemon. It seems that you would prefer some of the electric variety, but there aren't really a whole lot to choose from in this specific area. Shame, isn't it? Oh well, let's just see how things play out, be it in your favor or otherwise.

As you continued to walk down the eerily strange ally, there was one thing that was quickly coming to your attention. A pretty foul odor was permeating the air, which kept finding a way to your nose no matter what you did. Trust me, this was really disgusting. Don't pass out because of it, okay? That would just be awful. You looked around insistently, attempting to discern the location of the aroma. If you looked hard enough, you would find a small pile of sludge oozing from behind a trash can. Upon closer examination, you'd probably be able to notice that it was moving slightly, almost trembling. With that, you could infer that it was a young Grimer!

I don't know if I'd consider that lucky or not, but hey. It is a pokemon. Though, y'know, it did kind of seem to act like it was intentionally hiding from you. Hey! It seems to have taken some damage, too! Poor thing. Maybe some other wild pokemon had attacked it for the item that it seemed to be clutching within the grips of its sludge. Hrm. Well, what would you do now? You could always battle it. Or, considering your background, you could try and befriend it and take it to the Pokemon Center. I probably wouldn't try to get the item away from it, as the way it is acting suggests that it is highly attached to the little trinket for whatever reasons it may have.

Well, it's up you! Until next time.

Chris glanced around the garbage can carefully. Considering cornered Pokemon tend to lash out if threatened, taking additional precautions was necessary. After seeing the poisonous sludge, Chris couldn’t help but feel bad about it. It was hurt, scared, and had obviously been through a lot. Fighting it would be cruel, even if he was catching it to take directly to the Pokemon Center. Besides, he’d set it free as soon as it was healthy anyways. While he wanted Pokemon, he wanted ones that would put their whole heart into the battle. And the Grimer wasn’t in any position to do that.

Slipping his two Pokeballs from his belt, Chris called forth his two new Pokemon. Meditite appeared at Chris’s feet, his legs already crossed and in a meditative state. Wingull just perched on the trashcan, looking like he was glad to be free.

Chris stepped 5ft from the trashcan and then circled it, giving Grimer plenty of room to not feel intimidated. He then kneeled down until he was close to eye level, while retaining his distance. “I’m not going to hurt you. Looks like you’ve been through a lot huh? I’m not going to catch you, and I’m not going to take that from you. I just want to help.”

Chris looked at the new Poketech on his wrist and selected the message system. His parents gave this to him before he left, along with their phone numbers already programmed for messages. He selected his mom because he knew she was still at the Pokemon Center. ‘Hey Mom, I’m in the Industrial Area. At “ “ and “ “. I found a wild Grimer, but it looks like it’s been through a lot. I’m going to try and get it to follow me to the Pokemon Center.’

With a sigh Chris closed the application, and then looked at the cowering Grimer. Making friends with a poison type Pokemon wasn’t going to be easy, especially since his main Pokemon was part psychic. He looked at the Poketech again for inspiration on Grimer, and gave a smile. He closed the application and reached into his backpack. Wingull watched with interest as Chris slipped out a small bag of Pokemon food. He pulled out a small handful and moved forward a foot, reaching out and laying the bits of food on the ground before Grimer. But before Grimer had a chance to look at it, Wingull swooped down and gobbled it up. Apparently it wasn’t interested in what was going on.

“Wingull, stop it.” Wingull looked up at Chris, and then finished the small snack before flying back to his perch. Chris gave a sigh as he reached for more food and set it out again. He took two steps back to let the poison Pokemon get it, when Wingull swooped in again for another meal. This time however Chris was ready, and jumped for the flying Pokemon before it could get a chance. Wingull let out a squawk of surprise, and retreated back to it’s’ perch. “I said to leave it. That’s for Grimer, if he chooses to eat it. If not, then you can have it.” Wingull gave a huff, and then began to preen his feathers. Meditite seemed to be un-phased by all that was going on, but a small smile on his lips showed that he was paying attention in his meditative state.

The Grimer had been hungry. It looked longingly at the first set of Pokefood down on the ground and almost made a step at it... before Wingull came in and gobbled it all up. The Grimer lept backwards in surprise and anger, clutching onto its treasured White Apricorn even more! It must have thought that you were there to try and steal it, like the other attacker had been. This time the Grimer wasn't going to just sit back and take it. While you were wrestling the Wingull to the ground, she made a few tentative steps closer to you. While Wingull waited patiently for you to let it eat, Grimer seemed to be glancing backwards and forwards, between Wingull and Meditite. It was testing the waters and seeing which was the bigger threat. It ultimately decided on the bird being the bigger target, and let loose a cloud of Poison Gas to protect itself. The gas hit Wingull hard and left it toxified with poison. She looked towards Meditite, who had been calm and collected, and simply stood there. It started to glow with an eerie sheen. It had hardened itself and raised its defenses! It looked like the Grimer wasn't going to come along quietly, and it appeared you had a battle on your hands!..... if you wanted it. There was always the option of just leaving quietly and taking Wingull to get healed before moving on. The choice was yours, trainer! Fight or flight?

Chris just stood there stunned at the poisonous smoke that engulfed Wingull. After the initial shock wore off though, he couldn’t blame the Pokemon. It was already hurt and confused before Chris met it, and now it must be acting on instinct. Chris would have probably done the same thing if he was in its’ shoes, but he couldn’t let it slide. It attacked him and his Pokemon, and that meant she would attack the next person without hesitation. Best to defeat her quickly, and then bring both Pokemon to the Pokemon Center quickly.

“Wingull, try and recover your breath. Hit it with Water Gun when you see an opening, and try not to move around too much. Meditite, use Meditate and then strike it hard. Try and weaken it for a Pokeball, and then we’ll take it to the Pokemon Center. Don’t take anything away from her, understand.” Meditite gave a nod, standing up and focusing his energy. Wingull however just kept coughing, still affected by the poisonous gas.

So a battle with a Grimer, huh? That really stinks! Haha, get it!? I crack myself up, not really, but anyways, enough with the jokes. So there you were, Grimer did a sneak poison gas attack on your Wingull, who was now coughing up a lung might I add, and the poor bird was now poisoned. Well that –insert your word(s) of choice here-! How dare that pile of purple sludge do that to your little Wingull! I mean after all, all you tried to do was feed the Grimer, and your bird jumped in the way and began devouring the food. Not trying to sound like a complete jerk, but in my eyes your pokemon got what it deserved.. >>;

Anyways, as the Grimer poisoned your Wingull, you decided to take action! Ooo, yay, a battle! Meditite, who was already in meditating position.. like always, began meditating raising it’s attack power. It then quickly darted towards Grimer and gave it a quick strike, however, Grimer retaliated with a strike of its own, dealing some damage, along with taking some.

Wingull on the other hand was still coughing horribly, and was trying not to move so much, but was slowly failing at that. In between coughs, Wingull was able to let off a quick little water gun, that hit Grimer, but wasn’t as strong as a normal water gun, so it didn’t do much damage. After your water bird attacked, the poison did its part, causing extreme pain within Wingull, causing a bit of damage as well.

Watching a pokemon suffer from poison was a very sad sight to see. And you could clearly tell that Wingull was really suffering. Lets just hope that Grimer didn’t decided to use poison gas on Meditite, then things would become disastrous.. But I believe you can win this, now go prove me right! =D

Chris watched as Grimer was hit hard by the dual attack. He couldn’t help but feel impressed with the Pokemon’s will to fight, even if it was just to protect what it was holding. The ability to protect something important was just as strong as fighting for your freedom, at least in Chris’s opinion. In a way he’d be tempted to catch it permanently, but quickly ignored the notion. Catch it, heal it, release it.

Holding out Wingull’s Pokeball, Chris did a quick calculation. “Wingull, return.” Having a poisoned Pokemon out that wasn’t fighting at its fullest was more a hindrance than a help, as making the flying Pokemon fight could speed up the poison. Besides, Meditite was in prime form. He could take Grimer out easily. “Alright Meditite. Strike it hard, and strike it fast. If it breathes another Poison Gas then hold your breath and try to avoid it. Only strike if you have a good hit.” Meditite gave a calm nod as he tried to focus on the right moment to strike.
