~Midnight Ember Office Complex~ A certain someone was sitting behind his desk, sighing. Facing a large window of his office, he had an exceptional view of the wild beauty that surrounded Kijutsu City from high in the office building in which he sat. Papers were scattered over his new desk, as his old one had been smashed in half when the meteor shower had occurred. A burn mark still spread out from under the desk, but he had it left alone. It gave a odd sense to the room... One that he liked. The actual culprit of the mark was sitting on the corner of his new desk, a white meteorite that seemed to glow faintly on the inside. Although, now, someone was very knowledgeable about said glowing.. It was just the thing he'd been searching for. The large meteor which he had his company claim contained a bunch of Pokemon that came from outer space, but those were of no interest to him. He'd leave the meteor to sit and decay once all of the required substances were mined from it... Though, the Pokemon it contained did make for a good way to get trainers all over the region to gather smaller meteorites for him.. Petting the Houndoom that lay to his side, Carlos rose to his feet and walked to the door, the hell hound following. Time for another day at work. |

Walking down the hallway, Carlos lit up a cigarette. So much still had to be done before his plans could go under way... Reports came in that Scion had taken possession of the gigantic turtle Pokemon that they dug up and unleashed on the Forest of Legends, and there was also rumors circulating of Econix beginning to move about in that same forest. Darkfire was definitely the more known of the three in the criminal underworld, but if they didn't act from time to time, they would be trumped by one of the other two teams taking territory of the Alternian mainland. None of the teams had begun to branch out to the other islands of the region yet, something Carlos was planning on being the first to do. Orthrus yawned as he kept pace with Carlos, the Houndoom taking little notice of the people he passed. On today's agenda... Check up on the meteor harvests, visit the laboratory to see the progress on... it, and oversee the recruitment ritual. As per the meteor harvests, one of Carlos's second in command had come up with the idea of putting employees in each Pokemon Center to host miniature collection stations. The idea was worth the hassle of mobilizing the necessary agents, meteor collection had nearly tripled in the last week alone. They'd soon have enough raw material to complete... it. It was essential to his plans for expansion over the seas, and at leveling the playing field with Scion now that the balance of power was shifting. Things would change in the following weeks. That much was certain. Taking a puff of his cigarette, he continue walking, his first stop, the office floor dedicated to meteor collection. |

~Midnight Ember Office Complex~ Strolling down the hallway with a natural air of authority around you, you glanced down into the area below you; there seemed to be several collections of cubicles, with various busy employees attempting to scramble on with their small tasks. It was kind of amusing, in a way, that most of them were utterly clueless that this building was the key base of operations for one of the more infamous underground syndicates. Funny how that ends up, though I'd be willing to wager that it was part of your plan from the very beginning. You had a few select tasks that you had given yourself for the start of your busy day, which you had the full intention of pursuing with haste. After all, this was quite the important project. One that you had made excruciating effort and gone through great expense to achieve this goal of yours. Orthrus, your fierce partner, strolled casually at your side. To him, things were a bit dull. Wasn't to say that he didn't enjoy the relaxing time, but he wouldn't necessarily complain if something happened to spice up the tedious day. The destination at hand was the laboratory, in order to check up on the progress of your project. Calmly, you began your descent from the upper level where your office was held, walking down the spiral staircase in a melodic fashion. The building itself was quite handsome; the steps you trusted your weight on were made of reinforced glass -- perfectly clean, despite the numerous shoes that may have trod on it recently -- and fashioned to the rest of the metallic stairwell with stainless steel. The smooth metal, if you were not wearing gloves, would have been comforting to the touch, I'm sure. As you reached the landing, your path became more direct. The elevator was just a ways past the row of makeshift offices; a few people glanced at you furtively, though returned to their work immediately after; a small chill accompanied their return, running down their spine. They didn't know why that was the case, exactly, but it was a common occurrence. Not only were you the person in charge, but the demeanor you possessed was quite frightful. Yet, despite all of this, not a one suspected anything about you. It was most likely the case that even if they dared, the fear of harboring that thought would be enough to send them to an early grave on its' own. Stepping into the elevator, you inserted a small key. Upon inserting and turning the small trinket, the elevator began to move on its' own accord. It was specially designed such that only a few select people had access to the deepest part of this building, where the true experiments were being masked by the busy work of the normal people above. The ride itself was rather long. After all, you were at the top of a gigantic building, and going into the subterranean region where you would be concealed from the rest of the world. Orthrus, whom had been silent for most of the trip, began to utter a low yet fierce growl as the doors opened to reveal your workspace. |

The stagnant smell of chemicals and burning rubber met the air as Carlos stepped from the elevator into the laboratory. Carts of the collected meteors were descending from the collection offices above, dumped into a larger container for siphoning. From there the scientists shelled the rocky exteriors and revealed the glowing innards, the actual resource Darkfire was aiming for. A large cloth sheet sectioned off a platform where many scientists came in and out from, something rattling chains behind it. Stations separated from the collection area brought the individual meteors off to different scientists, who ran an assortment of tests on them. Orthrus growled at a passing scientist who stepped a little too close to Carlos for his liking, sending the meager man scurrying away. These people knew who Carlos was and what he was doing, yet were still vastly intimidated by him. Knowledge was probably not always the most comforting thing.. It was nearly time for the new plans to proceed, and for that to happen, this project needed completing. If the test worked, the large version should work... And then she'd be under Darkfire's control. An exploration team had happened upon legends of her dwelling, and not long after they had discovered it in it's entirety. Time was now of the essence, and the work here would prove indispensable to achieving success. Grabbing the attention of one of the lead scientists, Carlos inquired about the progression on the project thus far. "You there. How soon until the test collar is completed?" |

~Midnight Ember Office Complex~ ~Basement Floors~ ~Laboratory~ The man bumbled for a moment, staggered by the sudden appearance of the leader. He quickly gathered his wits and delivered a report. "Completion should be reached in mere moments. If you'll follow me, sir, I'll take you to see the test for yourself." The man led Carlos over to the blanketed off area, as they proceeded to tear it down. Behind it, restrained by chains, was a rather large variety of the Pokemon Costeladon. It seems that this one arrived with the Meteor that had delivered Cestar to the region, and Darkfire had taken custody of it as they did it's children. It was harnessed, yet still managed to roar excessively and struggle despite it's bindings. :costeladon With the help of extra restraints, the dragon was held still, heads spread as an object was raised above it. It seemed to be a collar, whittled out of the many fragments of meteors that they had collected. The collar was slowly lowered over the main head of the dragon, the glowing rocks seeming to brighten as it neared it's black skin. Once it was lain to rest, the alien rock shown as brightly as the night sky for a moment, before settling and returning to it's normal eerie glow. The dragon had ceased it's struggling, and it's eyes reflected the colors of the meteoric rock around it's neck. The chains were taken off of the dragon, and still it sat motionless. Carlos was handed a small device, hooked up to a smaller shard of meteor. "This is the control device, sir. Simply press the Command button, and speak aloud your instructions. The secondary button is to put the creature into a hibernation-like state, and the button under the plastic cover releases the collar restraints." Pressing the button, Carlos relayed a single command. "Costeladon, come forth." The dragon stepped off the platform, sliding it's massive body before Carlos. It stopped about three yards before him, and again stood motionless. The test was a success, the device worked. "Ah, brilliant. The test collar has the exact same attributes as the full sized collar. It will be ready to be moved by the end of the day." |

"Be sure it does, the convoy will be gathered to leave tomorrow. I won't tolerate any delays." Taking out a Poke Ball, Carlos threw it onto the ground. Holding up the device again, he issued another command to the wild Costeladon. "Costeladon, submit yourself to the ball." Tapping the Poke Ball with one of it's heads, the dragon wordlessly leaned forward and proceeded to capture itself. Carlos retrieved the ball, and handed it to the scientist, giving him orders to have the dragon prepared for the approaching convoy. He'd need the strength of the beast to help attain the target.. Which the giant version of the collar would be used for. Wrapping up his business with the laboratory, Carlos and Orthrus returned to the elevator. His next task would be to supervise the initiation process of two new recruits that had shown up today. The recruitment battle was always entertaining to watch, as was judging if the worms who came to join were sufficient enough for Darkfire's cause. The recruitment room was accessed by the outside world through an entrance beside the building, though the elevator still reaches it. It's a cordoned off area of the ground floor, secured by armed guards and surveillance cameras. The types that work Darkfire's underbelly are not always the most frivolous sorts, and it would be problematic to attract too much attention to the building with things like police... The elevator slowed to a stop at the first floor, as Carlos walked out to greet his new minions. |

~Midnight Ember Office Complex~ ~Ground Floor~ ~Recruitment Room~ Stepping into the dimly lit room, Carlos could see many people standing around conversing back and forth. Many of them most likely knew of him, but had no idea what he actually looked like... So to them, he was nothing more then any old man smoking a cigarette. Most of the people were the security, blending in as not to look suspicious. If anyone was going to cause a problem, Carlos wanted them found out sooner rather then later, so they could be expelled from his building all the quicker. Three or four of them were unfamiliar faces, especially the two new people who had just walked in. One was incredibly obnoxious, rudely cursing at the door guards and at the man who had walked in with him. Said man was more composed, yet the way he acted gave the notion that he had no idea why he was here. The receptionists most likely had a character call and directed him here... no matter. If he was willing to join, knowing or not, he had better be an adequate battler. Clearing his voice, Carlos addressed the newbies in the room. Continued in Thorn and Spoiler's Journey! |
