I LOVE Avatar...The Last Airbender, yo.
HELLOOOOO! And welcome to Alt--...Oh wait, you already live here. So I guess its nothing new, same old. You said your farewells to your parents, who were quite sad to see you go. Now, with your partner, Pandora, you set off on your journey. As you went down the road, your parents yelled things like, "Don't forget to keep in touch!". Gosh, parents really need to relax. It's not like you're going to another planet. But I guess it's alright that they're worried, shows they're good parents.

So, back to the journey portion of this post. You headed down the street towards the main part of town. The whole place was covered in snow, but you're used to it. You knew where everything was, all the stores, the facilities, you know. Out on the left was the same large field of snow you always knew. And look, it was little Derek from the other side of town! He ran up to you and said, "Annabelle! I just got my first Pokemon! Will you battle with me?"

Running up from behind was a small Poochyena with a large smile on its face. So, you gonna battle little Derek? Or just ditch him and continue onward...Your choice. WELCOME TO ALTERNIA!

Finally, it was time to get started on my own journey. With months of training under my belt, I exited the house both excited and terrified at the same time. My hair was done up in a ponytail, held back by a white rubber band, while my bag hung over my right shoulder. I was ready, and now it was time to begin my journey as a pokemon trainer!

What to do first? I thought to myself as I felt the cold, comforting, air against my skin. Maybe I was crazy for wearing what I wore, but after years of living in this climate it didn't effect me. Plus, it's always important to have fashion over function; nobody cares if your smart unless you look good, or else, who will talk to you? Right?

As I looked around the town, I wondered what I should do first. I could hit the store and buy myself some items for my journey... but I didn't really need anything right now, I had my pokeballs and the Pokemon Center was nearby. Plus, I didn't plan on getting too far away from Shimo just yet. Maybe I could go into the forest nearby and try and catch Pandora a partnet...

Oh! Pandora! I thought before reaching into my bag with my right hand and gripping her pokeball. "Pandora!" I said as I threw the pokeball up into the air and watch it release her into the open air. Like me, she was used to it now and she came out stunningly. That's when I suddenly saw little Derek, a boy who'd grown up on the other side of the city, running toward me with an excited look on his face. I smiled at him, said my polite hello's and was about to walk away when he asked me if I wanted to battle.

At that moment, I knew what would be the first thing I did now that I was a trainer. With a smile, I nodded to his challenge and looked at Pandora before taking a few steps back to make room for the battle. Then, I made my commands: "Pandora, when Derek is ready I want you to use Growl on Poochyena, then use tackle."

What a great way to start your journey. Battling a good friend is such a good idea for your first battle. If you win you want to train to keep beating him. If you lose you want to keep training to beat him in the future. It's certainly better than trying to free a thief that had been trapped in Grimer's Sludge like a certain other trainer I know of...but thats beside the points. It looks apparent that you two would become good rivals. Lets hope neither of you are TOO competitive. Anyway lets see how this battle plays out.

Derek issued Poochyena to execute a Howl, followed closely by a Tackle. The Howl was quickly cancelled out by the Growl your Pandora performed. That leads us to the physical attacks now. Both pokemon charged forward and collided into each other, and seemed to be in a deadlock, neither pokemon budging an inch in an attempt to knock the other down.

"Wow this is great, go Cron!!" Derek shouted, in an attempt to cheer on his Poochyena. As both pokemon struggled against each other, they pushed each other away and circled each other, anticipating the next attack.

The first round went well, Pandora and Derek's Poochyena didn't seem to have any specific winnings in the making since they were evenly matched. That was good, since it meant that Pandora now had an idea of what kind of power she was dealing with. So with the new knowledge, it was time for me to come up with a new plan. I looked around, and there really wasn't much that could be used environmentally other than the snow.

Of course, with the amount of snow in Shimo, and the fact that Pandora had become used to it... maybe she could use it to her advantage. "Pandora, use Confusion on the snow to try and throw snowballs at Poochyena. Then use Astonish!" I ordered, watching Pandora as she shook off the hit from the previous round.

Pandora shook her coat, shaking off the brief pain from the collision. She'd timed her Growl properly to where Poochyena's attack wouldn't work like Derek had planned. After the battles she'd been in before when she and Annabelle had gone on with Annabelle's father, she'd learned a thing or two. So with the new commands, she turned toward the snow near her and tried to begin forming snowballs; however, she'd never used confusion to hurl anything before.

It's always good to come up with a strategy thats different and well thought out. This strategy was certainly different, but whether it was well thought out, I can't possibly comment on. First of all let me give you a description of what Confusion does:

The User extends psychic waves to immobilize the target, bringing it into midair and holds them immobile. Then, the user delves into the mind of the target, creating chaos and damage in the target's brain. The attack may also leave the target confused.

From this description it doesn't seem like Confusion's effect will work. Pandora could certainly lift the snow up into the air. But it didn't have the power to shape the snow or even through it. Plus may I add that snowballs aren't exactly the most powerful things you could use to harm an opponent (unless you stick a stone in there.)

"Cron use Howl, then follow up with a Tackle!!" You heard Derek shout. Cron howled into the air, giving himself a power boost. He then rushed forward and hit hard with a Tackle. Following your orders, Pandora shot an Astonish at Cron. However this was not very effective. You seemed to be at a disadvantage now. Maybe a new strategy was in order. Don't forget about the Global Attacks, i.e. Staredown (Lower Defense) and Focus (Raise a stat.) With these moves you can really turn the tide of battle. Best of luck to you next round. Victory is still easily available.

The last round hadn't been the greatest thing for us. Pandora didn't receive too much damage, it seemed, but I wasn't thinking about the effects of attacking recklessly. There were some attacks that Pandora had that would do nothing to the Poochyena, while there were others that would nothing. Maybe there was a way to trick Poochyena into strengthening it's attack a lot?

"Pandora, remember when Dad taught you to increase certain parts of your body to make yourself stronger? I think he called it Focus... I want you to try that in order to increase your defense." I said to Pandora as she nodded before turning back to the battle. Maybe we could make Derek raise Poochyena's attack and then use Power Swap, but for now we had to go on the defensive. "After you do that I want you to use Tackle again if you can."

Pandora nodded to me now and looked back to Poochyena and Derek. She seemed to understand what was going on because she started using confusion to communicate with me. While neither one of us was an amazing artist, she was able to get the general idea of trying to use power swap later between her and Poochyena. All we could do now was wait to see if Derek would fall into our little plan...

The battle was reaching its height, both trainers' pokemon panting and fighting for breath.

A slight wind picked up, tossing a few loose snow flakes into the air, swirling them around the players in this brutal game. Pandora bent her head, taking a deep breath inward, and letting it out slowly. She was trying to communicate to you, but it wasn't working. She was only young. She hadn't even begun to come into the immense power that was growing inside of her. It would come in time. And time was all that you had.

Unfortunately, Cron had run out of time.

You see, as you two trainers were battling, both of you had failed to notice the rather large gathering of pokemon that had been accumulating. As you realized this, Pandora and Cron forgot about their battle. Instead, they prepared themselves for what was about to happen. You, gasping at the sheer amount of these creatures, backed slowly toward Derek, and you felt his hand close into yours, his tiny fingers slippery with sweat.

"W-Where did they come from?" he asked, his eyes wide. He tried to get Cron's attention, but the poochyena was down on its haunches, growling menacingly at the new arrivals. That may have been what did it.

The Kakuna seemed to float along the ground, their child-like faces aimed at the sky, golden exoskeletons glittering in the sunlight. But, upon closer inspection, you realized that they weren't floating... but being carried. Hundreds of Weedle skittered beneath them, as if they lived to serve their golden gods. In reality, it was a symbiotic relationship between evolution and pre-evolution. You didn't get to think about it much. What happened next stopped all coherent thinking processes within your head.

Cron was scooped up by the Kakuna, his yelps piercing the cold air. But nothing could be done. Derek buried his face in your shirt, unable to watch. The golden pods hissed with delight as they thrust into the Poochyena, their sharp stingers cutting through flesh and organs, stinging, stinging, until the dog pokemon stopped moving. By then, it was a bloody mess, nothing but fur, pulverized bone fragments, and useless flesh. Derek screamed into you, and you could feel his hot tears soaking your shirt.

Your battle had disturbed the Kakuna. Perhaps you would check your surroundings the next time you were itching to battle? [color]

I felt the cold wind against my skin in a sudden and watched as snowflakes lifted between me and Derek. Ahead of us, both of our pokemon seemed distracted by something which brought the battle to a close. I turned soon, noticing as Derek came closer to me in fear and I could barely see, due to the glare, the bodies of Kakuna coming toward us.

Suddenly I was stung by Derek's face in my chest as we saw the Kakuna and Weedle grab his Poochyena. For a moment I thought nothing of it until they started attacking him, beating him, KILLING him. I couldn't bare watch, and although I wanted to do something to help my body was still and frozen. Pandora looked over at us, she didn't know what to do, she was just as immobile as we were, just as afraid. I couldn't help but let out a scream soon after, I knew that it wasn't the smartest idea but I didn't care.

"PANDORA! Use Confusion on the Kakuna!" I ordered, even though I knew it was too late to save Poochyena. What else could I do? Just leave it at that and walk away pretending nothing happened? "Get rid of them!" I continued to scream with closed eyes as I kept Derek snuggled in my arms so he wouldn't have to see the mangled body of his Poochyena.

Pandora, still frozen, took a moment to understand the command she'd been given. Her eyes glanced over to Derek and me and suddenly she felt strong, she understood the emotion behind my commands and used that as strength in order to attack the number of Kakuna and Weedle before her. With her eyes focused on the entire group, she attempted to gather as much strength as she could in using Confusion in order to get rid of as many of them as possible.

(Uhm, I think someone said we could use three moves once per battle. If I can, I'd like to do that here in order to deal some damage... or something.)

][ It seems someone deleted your request before I even had a chance to ref you... Which is weird because I had it claimed. Oh well, good thing I didn't forget about you. :P ][

A snowflake landed on your nose, startling you.

Looking up, you watched as the clouds roiled in the sky, and began depositing more snow into the atmosphere. It began falling slowly at first, but the wind picked up speed, chilling you. You'd better find some place warm soon, otherwise, you'd get too cold to function.

Pandora, having ignored the snow, turned her head toward the band of angry bug pokemon, but they seemed too intent on slicing up the dead Cron's body. You didn't understand. You'd never seen anything like this before. Weedle and Kakuna were often docile creatures, only attacking when humans or pokemon invaded their space... But not to kill. You felt a chill run down your spine and this time, it wasn't from the frigid air.

Suddenly, an annoying buzzing filled the air. You searched the woods all around you, but could see nothing that would make a noise such as this. Again, Pandora ignored it. She stood there, her hooves deep-rooted in the snow, stimulating her mind for the command you had given her. She was using her emotion, -your- emotion... But however hard she tried, she could not target more than one of the pokemon at a time. You saw evidence of this when a Weedle holding up one of the Kakunas make a chittering noise, showing its discomfort.

Before you could think too much into it, the buzzing sound revealed itself. From above you, seemingly from the trees, a large group of Beedrill appeared. They didn't seem to notice you (Which was probably a REALLY good thing), so you, Pandora and Derek moved away, though, the boy still wasn't watching. You could feel his cold tears on your bare skin. The bee pokemon chirped and hissed to each other, before grouping around the carried Kakuna, each one grabbing two of the golden pods with their arm stingers. The Kakuna didn't seem to care, although, one of them carried Cron's body, draped sloppily across its now blood covered shell.

As they all took off into the sky, the Weedle seemed to have been relieved from duty, their tiny eyes following their brethren in the sky, before they all moved back off into the snowy forest. Where had the Beedrill taken the Kakuna? And where were the Weedle going? So many questions shot through your mind at once. And right at that moment, you realized that not all of the Beedrill had left. A single one stood watching the three of you, its pincers gnashing menacingly. It looked mad.

Looked like you had another battle on your hands after all.

I watched suddenly as the Kakuna were carried off by several beedrill. My first thought was to keep Derek, Pandora, and myself safe so the three of us took a few steps back out of harms way. Then I waited for the Weedle, Kakuna, and Beedrill to be safely away before I stepped back out in the open. I wasn't sure what to expect now, after seeing homicidal insects rip apart a rather strong dark-type.

Suddenly I turned to hear the buzzing of another and noticed it staring me and Pandora down. Obviously there was no way I could get out of this without a battle, and I wasn't going to back down anyway. If anything, this just gave me a chance to avenge Derek's poochyena's demise. I turned to Pandora, who'd already noticed the Beedrill, and she nodded to me as she readied herself for battle.

"Pandora, use Growl to lower its attack. Then use Confusion and try to deal some damage. Since it's poison-type you should be able to do some damage." I proposed, unsure of what else to do considering Pandora's current level and attack state.

The Beedrill cocked its head as you spoke, as if trying to understand your strange linguistics. Little did it know, you were commanding your pokemon to attack it. By the time it realized this, it was too late.

Pandora galloped past you, her mind set on making this bug pay. She had just watched a comrade pokemon die at the stingers of these awful pokemon. She didn't know how they were raised out here on this island, but it was obviously not the right way. Growling as she went, the bee pokemon shrunk back with fear, unnerved. And in the next second, it was doubled over on the ground, clutching its head with its sharp arm stingers. It was the confusion. It was a completely effective maneuver, seeing as how poison types took two times the damage from psychic attacks.

Your Girafarig raised her head high, turning to you with pride in her eyes. And that's when the Beedrill retaliated.

Coming up from behind her, the bee dug its stingers into Pandora's hide, and she cried out with pain. Poison sting. It hissed with rage, flapping its wings quickly, and gaining altitude. From up high, you saw its exo-skeleton gleam in the sunlight-- Renew itself. Harden. It clacked its sharp appendages together, as if to challenge you to continue the battle.

On your end, the battle was going well.

It was obvious that Pandora was doing well, and in this battle she would maintain the upperhand. The beedrill had a few attacks that could hurt her, but nothing that would damage her too badly if she kept control over things. Now, I had to come up with a plan in order to get this battle done quick.

"Pandora," I called and she turned to me briefly. She kept her eyes on the target, ensuring that she wouldn't be suprised while I spoke to her. Ah yes, how great it was that she had two heads on her body that could watch from all angles if necessary. "I want you to use Confusion once again, another direct attack. Then follow it up with another confusion, this time try and dig deeper into that bugs mind and confuse it. If you can't do the second one, just attack like normal." My instructions were done, and Pandora was bright enough to understand them.

However, a thought came to me; if she'd been able to pick the snow up before using Confusion, would there truly be any reason that she couldn't pick other things up? It would be a trial and error attempt, but all depended on her skill. I looked at the Beedrill, reflected on its last attack and thought of a second plan. "Pandora, if Beedrill uses Poison Sting again I want you to either redirect a confusion in order to send the stingers back at Beedrill, or use a third Confusion. I know you can do it!" I cheered, hoping that she'd have enough strength to muster at least two consecutive Confusion attacks.

So, confusion was the best you had. And good thing, too, considering that the Bee pokemon was weak to psychic type moves. But you wanted to shy from the direct 'attack that sucker until it dies' approach, and wanted to see if you could direct the creature's attacks right back at it! Good for you. It's only every once in a while that I see a trainer brave enough to try a maneuver that may not necessarily work. We'll see how it goes.

The Beedrill was pumped, moving its wings up and down, creating an agitated buzzing sound. Its mandibles gnashed angrily, and it made the loudest hissing sound that it could. Moving closer to Pandora, it released a shot of white string from its mouth, getting her around her mid-section. It hardened and set quickly, leaving Pandora unable to move as quickly as she could prior to the string shot. She growled angrily. Accessing the power within her, she projected it into the Beedrill's mind once again. The bug's eyes glazed for a moment, and it faltered in the air, dropping to the ground below. A cloud of snow puffed into the air, and the Bee rolled onto its side, standing shakily up. Just in time for another confusion attack. Again, the bug clutched at its tiny head, falling over onto its back.

The bug couldn't stand up without being attacked. And the damage was still being done. It had become confused. It stood up sloppily, trying to target Pandora through eyes unable to focus. Lashing out, it accidentally hit itself with a poison sting. Again falling back, Pandora decided to end it then. Unable to re-direct an attack from the bee, she entered its mind, and knocked it out. It settled on the snowy ground with one final hiss.

Congratulations! :girafarig Pandora gained 17 :exp !
Pandora leveled up to level 7!
Pandora leveled up to level 8!
Pandora got 2 :exp left over!

So, that had been a quick battle. You can leave this bug to be discovered by its kin, who would no doubt be back, or capture it for yourself. It was up to you. I'd hurry, though, because I can hear them buzzing back!

I watched half-heartedly as Pandora knocked the beedrill out with relative ease. She'd done way better than I thought she would, and I was glad we could finish this battle up. Now, we had a choice to either bring the Beedrill with us or just leave it here. I looked to Pandora who seemed to be able to understand what I was asking, as we both turned to the Beedrill.

For a moment neither one of us said anything, but then I looked at Derek and I had an idea. Seeing as the beedrill was knocked out, there was no chance of it escaping the pokeball so I grabbed one from my bag and threw it at the bug pokemon. Pandora looked at me suddenly and I responded with a smirk before glacing down over to Derek. Immediately she understood my plan and smiled.

If the pokeball caught the Beedrill, I would pick it up and give it to Derek. Sure, it wasn't the greatest present but it was all I could think of for now.

I'm wrecking this place up like a tornado of vengeance! Sideways is the best ways! Look out, Aro. You're about to be diago-NAILED!
The Beedrill, despite its fierce opposition earlier, gave surprisingly little resistance. The pokéball 'dinged' cheerfully to let you know of the capture, despite the incredibly morbid tone which was currently hanging over your situation. You walked over to the ball and picked it up. Derek watched you numbly, still in shock and still miserable. He had loved that pokémon. Sure, he had only just got it, but... everyone gets attached to their starters, right? He loved that Poochyena and the little dog had been cruelly taken away from him. When you offered him that pokéball, his face only registered disgust until he realised that you were trying to do a nice thing. Tears began to well up again as he looked between you, the Beedrill and Pandora. He couldn't decide. He didn't want to offend you when he knew you were only being a good friend, but he also wanted nothing to do with the pokémon whose kin had murdered his pokémon. It went against every emotion and feeling he was currently experiencing, and so it was with regret for you that he had to decline.

"S-s-s-s-sorry, Annab-belle," he stuttered, the tears clumping in his throat and seriously affecting his speech. "I c-c-c-c-can't, I just.... c-c-can't..." Ignoring the pokéball you offered, he gave in to tears and rushed in for another hug, just needing your support and comfort.

Unfortunately, it seems to have been mentioned that the bugs were due a return. The noise from murderous horde rose in your ears as once more they descended upon you. What would happen now? Surely they would not slaughter Pandora as well? Your Girafarig, afraid but protective to the end, drew closer to you, ready to defend you all to her last breath.

Fortunately, it was not required.

The Weedle began to emerge again, anticipating the return of their older kin. Their numbers seemed impossible, and doubled by the Beedrill which were flying back to their larvae. The Kakuna were no long with them, having obviously been deposited in a new home. The bugs' social lives and habits were likely of little interest to you, though, knowing what they were capable of. This time, the Beedrill did notice you, much like their now-captured brother had noticed you, and hummed and buzzed agitatedly to themselves as they approached. They were within a minute of reaching you when suddenly a cry rose up, and a form completely different to the Beedrill soared into the sky. The Beedrill parted like butter, leaving blue sky where there had once been the darkness off buzzing wings. It was joined by a second shape, slightly smaller than the first but much faster, which cut in a different direction, further disorientating and distracting the Beedrill. The third shape was the last one, and, whilst slightly smaller than the first, seemed darker and more imposing than all; its cry was definitely the most intimidating, and the Beedrill were certainly the most afraid of it. Whilst naturally vicious, the Beedrill had not expected any attack; indeed, they expected to dominate this territory, and much have known all the dangers around it. That left little solutions, but that these three shapes were not wild, and were indeed trainer-owned.

"Get down," a sharp voice ordered, running towards you, and the tall man practically used his body as a shield against you, Derek and the Weedle, who were hissing and writhing in confusion of what was happening in the sky. Why were their kin upset? Who could be beating them? Some of them began to surge towards your group, but the man drew a whistle to his lips and within moments the Weedle were cleared, for one of the shapes had swooped down from the airborne battle to Gust all the pesky bugs away.

It did not take long for this man and his three birds to dispel the threat. The Beedrill and Weedle, whilst powerful in their insane numbers, were no match for three highly dangerous, highly levelled and highly trained birds, who completely destroyed the threat. The difference was, the birds managed to do it without killing anything; the Weedle fell back into the forest and the Beedrill followed them, angry but sorely beaten. It looked like you would not have to worry about a repeat of your earlier traumatic battle.

Now that the threat was over, the man turned to the both of you. He had a kindly face, if a little tight with anger over the current situation, though his expression softened as he regarded you. Derek, who was completely stunned, had absolutely nothing to say. The man's pokémon - a Pidgeot, Swellow and Staraptor - landed gracefully behind him, as if not tired at all. "I am sorry you had to be in the middle of that," the man said, trying to be gentle. It was as if he knew what had happened - and this was confirmed when he opened his coat a little, showing to you a small, slightly bloody sack. He shook his head and quickly closed his coat again; Derek had not seen it, fortunately, though the man had no idea which of you the poor Poochyena belonged to. "It's a terrible thing, the murder of a pokémon like that. The food chain is one thing; unnecessary aggression is quite another." Derek, who now realised that this man knew what had happened, began to blubber incomprehensibly again. The man simply smiled and unsurely patted his head. When he spoke, he mostly addressed you, for you were clearly the oldest. "I've been monitoring this hive; they're unusually hostile and I've been working to try and avoid... this." It was clear what he meant by 'this', as the blood-stained sack hidden in his long coat proved.

He had explained himself, and now wasn't sure what to do. It was clear he wasn't really a people's person, just a ranger who tried to help people indirectly. "I'm sorry," he muttered, unable to apologise enough for what he felt was his mistake. Derek's persistent and understandable crying didn't help; the guy said one last thing out of desperation to ease the boy's pain. "There might be... a way we can get him back."
