We are going to host an OOC contest to try and jump start some contest/Coordinator Trainers here on the forums. This should help show the entire site how the contests IC work. Below are the IC Contest rules and following that will be the rules for this OOC Contest.
Here is how things will go down here. First off All Participants will post their Contest entries in this thread. The Performance part will be done in here. The Judges will be three of the four upper staff members. The open call for the performance will stay open until Oct. 16, so you have plenty of time to post your entries. Edits are not allowed. You get one shot so make it count. Any and all edited posts will be ignored. Please get it right the first time. (This is to keep people from changing their performances after someone has given a possible better one.) Battle round will be discussed after the performance round is over. Good luck to all. Prizes will be edited in later. Prizes: 5-8: $100 4-3: $250 + Shell Bell 2nd: $500 + Random Hold Item (non-Evo) 1st: $1000 + Choice Hold Item (non-Evo) As a special thing we are going to allow the use of PokeSeals which are special stickers you can use to mae your Pokemon's entrance more sparkly. Info on the Seals will be in the Pokedex's Item and Others in the General Item Thread. Edited by Xander, Oct 5 2009, 10:55 PM.

Example Post Entrant: Maji Shuuto and Anastasia ![]() ![]() Maji wearily stepped up to his place in line, ready to go on stage. Finally all the anticipation of his first Alternian Contest had caught up to him and nerves took over his body. With a deep breath he heard the announcer say that the last coordinator was now done and he bit his lower lip. "Show time..." He said to himself as the announcer said that the stage was set for the next performer. Him. Suddenly he found himself center stage, a spotlight set on him as his eyes repelled the urge to squint. He waved to the audience and took in another deep breath before letting it all out, and his eyes locked downward briefly as he gripped the pokeball that he'd been carrying from the start of his journey. With a quick twist of his body and flick of his arm he unlatched the pokeball from his belt, and almost as if the wind had done it all for him the ball enlarged in mid-air and opened itself. "Anastasia, take the stage!" His voice chimed rythmically through the area, projecting loudly enough for all the audience to hear while his body completed the spin from his early movement and set into a solid stance. From the second he called his pokemon's name, a red beam began to take form in the center of the stage. At the end of his turn, the pokeball returned to his hand and the beam dispursed to reveal a small flower bud on the field, to an untrained eye Anastasia would've appeared nothing but a floral bud, but soon enough her eyes opened and she smiled to her audience cutely before waiting for orders from her trainer. "Budew..." Now with all the actors on the stage, despite it being only one, Maji smiled with his pokemon and began to speak. "Anastasia, Begin with Leaf Storm through the air and then follow with a combination of Energy Ball and Absorb simultaneously." He stated, and Anastasia simply nodded having heard of this combination before; however she'd never used Absorb at the same time. "Let's go! Scene!" At the word Anastasia began to glow a bright green light which began to spiral around her, slowly seperating into leave-shaped crescents rotating like a tornado around her little body while the bud on her head began to open slightly, absorbing the light into it while forming a darker green bulb of energy above her. While the light green leaves spun about continually the orb over her head too began to rotate, drawing the tornado of leaves closer and closer to Anastasia as they began to rotate about the dark green orb. Soon enough, she heard from behind her Maji's snap and she lowered her head slightly, firing off the Energy Ball toward the far left of the audience, carefully aiming the attack. There was then silence on the stage, as the spiralling comet-like orb shot toward the audience both Maji and Anastasia calmed their bodies. The rotation was perfect and before coming within ten feet of the audience the orb began to curve, spinning still as it moved around the room and released the light green leaves through the audience, having lost their strength over time and quickly breaking into sparkling light over the audience as they fell. Eventually, the energy ball orb had rotated around the stage and was coming toward another wall where it's curving would not save it. Anastasia briefly seemed surprised, but Maji simply smiled and said underneath his breath, "now." Immediately the Budew began to glow another bright green light, however this one was more dull and was directed toward a specific target, the energy ball. Almost instantly the green light strung through the area and entangled the energy ball as the energy itself was sucked from the object and absorbed back into the pokemon. When it was all gone she smiled and the bulb on her head opened once again, this time to expell excess energy she'd absorbed in the form of a beautiful light. Maji and Anastasia both smiled once more and took a bow quickly. With a brief look at the audience once more, Anastasia quickly walked over to her trainer and both walked off the stage leaving their impressions on the audience. Only time would now tell if they would move on to the next round. |

Entrant: Dai Edith and Neptune ![]() Dai felt no twinge of nerves as the sounds of the current performance rang faintly through the air, dampened by the walls that separated the arena from the waiting entrants. In fact, Dai felt the exact opposite of nervous; he was exhilarated. He lived for the spotlight, to be in front of an audience’s expectant eyes. Well versed in how to dazzle a crowd, Dai checked over his appearance one more time to make sure he had covered all of his bases. He had ironed his clothes and cleaned them so they appeared flawless and unwrinkled for once, and his cane and shoes were polished to a brilliant shine. A white rose was pinned to the left breast of his vest, its stark paleness contrasting to the rest of his dark outfit and balancing out the visual weight of his bangs and cane on the right. As Dai looked over his appearance and smoothed down a bit of hair just as one of the staff came in and said, “Edith, Dai, you’re up next. Please move to the southern arena entrance.” “Excellent!” Dai said cheerfully, grinning broadly. With a small toss, he flipped his black top hat onto his head. He found his way into the entrance, chest swelling with excitement. He heard his name called over the loudspeakers and the door in front of him slowly rose to reveal the bright stadium lights and the cheering crowd. Silhouetted against the lights, Dai stepped forward to do what he did best; entertain. Dai strode onto stage, the embodiment of confidence. His cape fluttered and swirled behind him decoratively and his cane swung lightly in his hand, although to the audience it appeared purely decorative, as there was no hint of his usual limp in his walk. As he reached the center of the circular arena he stopped, and took a low bow. At his feet was a little puddle of water left over from the last performance. With much bravado, he pressed his empty palms together, cupped them, and then slowly opened them. Where previously there was nothing, a pokeball sat in his hands. With a flourish he tossed it into the air as high as he could, putting a heavy spin on the ball. With an electronic whoosh it opened and red light spilled out in a beam. Dai deftly caught the pokeball as the light condensed into a fish shape and finally, into Neptune. “Show ‘em how it’s done with two splashes and a belly flop just how we practiced!!!” Dai yelled enthusiastically as Neptune fell from the height he had appeared at. Neptune himself had been polished to a brilliant sheen, his scales glistening and shining in the stadium lights. Subtle differences in the orange hues of his scales not normally noticeable were brought out under the bright lights and the unusual reflectivity of his scales. “KAAAAAARP” Neptune turned his nose to the ground as his fall gathered speed and he flew towards the ground, whiskers blown up by the air resistance. It looked like he was about to collide head first into the ground, when at the last moment he curled to the side a fraction and the side of his body made contact. The back of his body followed down fluidly and obviously in control. As his tail became flush with his head on the ground, Neptune pulled up again, pushing down with his tail to launch himself in the air. The whole movement was his signature worm splash, but it had an added twist: magikarp did not go straight up, instead, he continued to curve his body, sending himself flying over instead of up. He curled his head tightly to his tail and tucked in his fins, resulting in rapid flips as he flew through the air. Neptune gauged the splash perfectly and after fiver or six flips, landed in the puddle in the middle of the arena, which Dai had jumped away from while the fish had been performing his first splash. Neptune landed squarely in the middle of the pool of water, laying flat in the water for a millisecond before launching into the air. This time, the fish did not go sideways, but straight up and as high as he could, and as he flew, trailed water from the puddle behind him in a glistening, translucent tail that connected to his own. In the air beads of water rushed along his body from the momentum, tracing the curves of his form. Neptune did one long, twisting flip that led him to be vertical at the very height of his jump, and its force flung the beads of water into the air about him, creating a field of drops that were momentarily suspended about him in the air, hanging and sparkling like stars in the light. Neptune hung for a second at the height of his jump, suspended with his head and eyes facing the heavens, before gravity pulled him down once again and he headed for the arena floor. The fall seemed incredibly fast for the grace and time it took for the small fish to get up in the air. Magikarp snapped and twisted in the air to reorient himself just before hitting the puddle again. The sudden splash of water into the air seemed disproportionally large for the small fish, and it temporarily obscured him. The water separated into beads in the air, and fell down about the Neptune to reveal the fish, not on his side, but delicately balanced upright on his stomach, fins splayed wide like white fans and gills working silently as the Pokémon tried to catch his breath after the taxing display. Neptune wobbled a moment and then rocked forward a bit and wiggled his fins, almost appearing to take a bow before suddenly glowing bright red once again, and the fish burst into light and rushed back into the pokeball Dai held in his hand out in front of him. As the pokeball clicked, Dai took a sweeping bow with his lengthy form just as he had to open the act, but this time taking off his top hat. As he stood he dropped Neptune’s pokeball into it, waved his hand, and then tipped the hat over to dump its contents. White rose petals like that of the flower pinned to his vest drifted out of it, caught in the wind and danced away in the small gust, but no pokeball fell from the hat. Dai smiled softly and walked off the stage in silence. |

Entrant: Isaac “Tornado” Edgeworth and Plesio ![]() Isaac hummed a few bars, making sure he had his own aspect of the performance down. Though he had very little interest in coordination, the former mobster was a talented musician, and Plesio seemed eager to perform every time Isaac pulled out the crusted old harmonica that had gotten him through so many difficult times. He was dressed starkly in a simple black suit, his eyes obscured – as always – by the weathered trilby that sat comfortably on his head, tilted forward and hanging loosely off his hair. The former competitor walked off the stage, dressed in a frankly humorous cape and top hat. He looked more like a magician than a trainer; the mobster could only assume that the man's performance was filled with simple parlor tricks, but Isaac wasn’t the type to judge. The backstage assistant struck his name off the list and called for the next entrant. “Isaac, Plesio, you’re up. Put on a good show out there.” Tipping his hat in response, Isaac moved toward the curtain, Plesio pushing himself behind him. Taking a deep breath as he raised the harmonica to his lips, Isaac played the first note of "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring" drawing it out solemnly. The soft C# filled the room, as Isaac took one step beyond the curtain, his heavy footfall clacking loudly onto the stage before him. Par his request, the lights were dimmed, setting the tone of an early morning. A single spotlight reached out, bathing Isaac in light. Heavy shadows splashed across the curtain behind him, and the glare off his silver harmonica seeming to wink playfully at those watching. The sharply dressed harpist tapped his foot once, twice, thrice – a signal, perhaps, of unspoken communication and well rehearsed instructions - taking a few steps forward without missing a single note. And suddenly, from behind the curtain, softly, faintly, the sound of singing fluttered above Isaac’s harmonica solo. Picking up the duet as the mobster finished the first verse, Plesio walked calmly onto the stage, pushing his frame along with two massive fins. The elegant Lapras bobbed and weaved his head along with the song, setting a difficult 9/8 tempo as he sang. The song seemed to fill the entire room alight, as more and more spotlights clicked on. The soft clack of Isaac’s boot on the wood of the floor kept the song moving, as the duo continued the solemn rolling of the song. Breaking into illustrious vibrado, Isaac took a few more steps forward as the last of the spotlights flipped on, and the stage was drenched in morning-like light. The suited man reached the end of the stage, kneeling low and eventually slipping his legs off to hang over the lip of the platform. With one final note, the song ended – Plesio and Isaac closed their eyes, smiling peacefully, for they knew that their performance was far from over. “You know what to do, Plesio.” The gruff bodyguard said the phrase meticulously, each word sounding like the pleasant pluck of a violin’s string. With a burst of air, Plesio let loose a cascade of mist as the lights clicked off once more, obscuring the stage with a fine sheet of water. The massive figure of the Lapras was seemingly hidden by the wavering clouds of water, and soon all that remained was the wispy figure of Isaac as their second song began. Again, like the first, the harmonica was the first to begin; a drawn out hand vibrado from Isaac’s alto single harp struck the air like a somber morning after a vicious battle. Soon, however, the accompanying sound of Plesio’s telltale voice pierced the mist sharper than any knife. The mist seemed to drift away, the long blue neck of the Lapras emerging first; slowly, but surely emerged the rest of his body - his flippers, then his finely knobbed gray shell. Familiarly, the duo dominated ones eyes, swathed in a coat of fine mist. A sea of cloud accented perfectly by two friends, as the beautiful sounds of "Air On The G String" lifted the hopes and spirits of all who watched and listened. But as slowly as it had started, it seemed mere moments before the song ended, fading into nothingness as the final chord rang out to those involved. Standing up, Isaac moved away from the edge of the stage, humming the first few bars of their final song to Plesio. The whisper was so faint that only the most trained of ears would notice it. Nodding assuredly, the Lapras quickly released a jet of cool water in a wide circle, aiming directly at… the ceiling? Indeed, to the upper rafters of the stage! The metal framework was quickly drenched in a fine coat of water. And suddenly, it began to drizzle – slowly at first, but soon enough, Plesio had expertly recreated a light morning rain. Falling methodically to a beat of their own, the would-be sun shower quickly spread out the mist, falling closer to the floor; just close enough to obscure the wood of the stage around them. Climbing up onto Plesio’s shell, Isaac laid down, lazily resting his head on one of the prominent knobs on the Lapras’s back. The massive sea creature turned around, facing the curtain at the far end, and seemed to drift toward it as if he were floating. Expertly, the duo had obscured their movements as if Plesio were swimming. The faint sounds of "Minuet in G Major" filled the air as the pair slipped behind the curtains without a word, the mist and rain leaving the stage promptly soaked. A mistifying performance, to say the least. |

Entrant: Morrison and Swinub! ![]() There was something odd about contests that had always pushed Moose away. It wasn’t the flashing lights, the contests, or even the millions of people watching. It was how each move had to be entwined with the other to form a combination that showed the intricacy and beauty of a Pokémon, while also allowing for their strength to be shown. As he stood in the waiting room, listening to the crowds cheer in admiration, gasp in awe, and cry out in wonder, nerves began to take hold of him. He knew that he was at a pretty large disadvantage here, and even though he did not wish to perform in a contest, he wanted to do it for his mother. She had always loved contests, and while Moose was never one to care about beauty, she had shown him some things that would look quite beautiful in a contest battle. “Morrison, you’re up!” called the voice of the backstage assistant, causing a subconscious twitch to occur in Moose’s body. “It’s Moose… he whispered, before walking up, his Pokémon safely in its Pokeball as he took the stage. Wow. That was all that came to mind as he looked around, his mouth agape as he heard the audience cheering for the next person to show them what they had going on for them. He didn’t even notice the light, temporarily stunned as he looked around, only catching himself when he had done a full spin to look around. “Okay then Swinub, time for ACTION! Use mud sport when you hit the ground, throwing the dirt and up high!” As he took aim and threw the Pokeball into the air, his stomach clenched in anticipation as the ball opened, the familiar sound pulsing in his ear as his Swinub formed on the field. The instant that he took the stage, he gave an affirmative “SwiSwiiii!” before digging his nose into the ground and then pulling up with all of his might. While Swinub was doing this, Moose scooped up a baseball sized clump of dirt and placed a piece of Pokémon food in it (disclosed in a plastic baggy), making sure he scent of the Pokémon food was effectively disguised. The result was the sand and dirt mixture flying into the air, forming a cloud of dust that not only glimmered in the light, but also lazily fell to the ground. Before it could all fall, Moose made sure to call out his move. “Now, Swinub, tackle the large clumps of dirt and then try to juggle in the air!” Preoccupied with his orders, Moose threw the ball of dirt and sand into the air, making sure to aim for the area that Swinub was going for. The clump of dirt that Moose had thrown was mixed into the array, becoming lost in the bombarding dust cloud that Swinub had created. Looking at his trainer curiously, the Swinub scampered across the stage and took into the air, jumping a good ten feet before tackling some of the large clumps of sand and dirt that had been mixed with the moisture in the air. Inside of these six clumps was the aforementioned food, the smell already reaching the small pig Pokémon’s snout and filling it with excitement. While in the air, Swinub began thrusting his snout at the clumps, effectively juggling them while gracefully falling to the ground. It was an interesting mood that played off of the ground type that Swinub held, while also showing how strong the snouts of Swinub are. “Now, Swinub, for a final display, fling the clumps up into the air and use odor sleuth to find the clump of dirt that holds my treat for you!” Excited over the news of the treat, Swinub used all of the might that he could muster to fling the clumps of dirt and sand into the air. Reaching about thirty feet into the air, Swinub then jumped after them, using his prized snout to try and find what Moose was talking about. The scent of the tasty Pokémon food filled his nostrils, and without a second thought, he tackled the clump with the food in it, flipped in the air, and landed in front of Moose. But, this wasn’t all! In his mouth was the plastic baggy, worn and torn from use, but the piece of Pokémon food still inside. “Great job Swinub!” rang Mooses voice as he opened the baggy and tossed Swinub the piece of Pokémon food. “You did awesome!” Giving a resounding “SwiSwiiii!”, his Swinub hopped into his arms. Hugging his Pokémon close, he recalled his Swinub and gave a bow to the crowd. |

EDITED TO INCLUDE NAME OF TRAINER AND Pokémon + SPRITES Entrant: Hayden and Max ![]() The lights, the cheering crowds, the very atmosphere that surrounded them. It was their time to show them what that had, even though at the very most, it may have been very little. Hayden looked down at Max, his Cubone, who was shaking in nervousness much like himself. He had sat still long enough for Hayden to shine up his bony helmet, and replace his bandana with something else, but as soon as Max heard what was going to be planned for this event, he started wailing. Hayden sighed, rubbing his temples with only a single hand, running the same hand backwards through his hair in order to calm down. They were up soon. Not next, but very soon. He knelt down and patted Max’s shoulder, the Cubone looking over his shoulder and nodding to its trainer, holding out its bone for Hayden to take and stating, a little ironically, the second syllable of his species. The young adult took the bone with a nod, weighing it up in his hand. It would do, but it would be a long shot for this to be pulled off flawlessly. He heard the person before him be called over the speaker, and Max retreated behind his leg, clinging a little due to the absence of a bone to hold. The Cubone trainer closed his eyes, breathing in through his nose and exhaling through his mouth. Then it was their time. Much like all the contestants before them, the crowd on the other side of the curtain gave them an encouraging round of applause. “C’mon Max, we’ve gotta perform now. Just do you best and I’ll reward you later…this…may make people laugh, and you might feel bad, but…I’ll make it up to you. Promise.” Max looked up at him, nodding one and stating its species name in confirmation that he understood. As the curtains parted, Hayden and Max stepped out on stage; Hayden dressed a little formally, and Max pretty much in his normal gear…with the added addition of fake Arcanine ears and a dog collar. “Go Max! Speak!” By combining both Cubone’s Growl attack and normal speech, Max was able to utter his species in a gruff, bark-like tone, raising his head as he did it. Hayden knelt down and patted him on the head, stating loud enough for everyone to hear. “Good boy.” Max got on all fours and then scrambled a little way from its trainer, sitting down as a canine would. Hayden was thankful that Max had been observant in the small amount of time that he had treated that Vulpix. The bone that he held, now sprinkled with a small amount of berry powder he held out in front of him, drawing Max’s attention. With a single command, he threw the bone upwards, kneeling down and placing his hands together as Max charged to him. “Fetch!” Feeling Max’s weight on his hand, he stood up and gave the Cubone a boost upwards, sending him airborne. Max shot upwards, flailing a little but catching the sweetened bone in his maw, gnawing on it and falling backwards and putting out his paws. Hayden put his up, and he caught Max in a handstand, the Cubone balancing on its trainer’s hands. Moving forward, he somersaulted forward down Hayden’s front, landing on the floor on all fours, bone in mouth and putting on the act of wagging his tail happily. Hayden stepped back and smiled, putting a hand on his waist and the other hand outstretched to the slightly distracted Cubone. “Max! Tail Whip!” Max did as he was told, but because of the forced momentum from his tail, he spotted it out of the corner of his eye whilst gnawing on his bone. At that moment, he was compelled to chase it, running around it tight circles in front of Hayden, growing dizzy fast and falling over, dropping the bone. As a finish to their act, Hayden picked up the bone and held it at waist level, just above Max’s reach and forcing him to jump; picking him up when he did as such and giving a graceful bow to the crowd, Max doing the same by bowing his head and taking back his bone from his owner. The pair then walked off as the curtains closed, the stage being prepared for the next act. Edited by Bane, Oct 16 2009, 08:01 PM.

For the time being I am retired from Alternia. Due to the nature of my work, I've become very busy and time here is hard to find. I shall return eventually however. ~Bane Hidden Sig
