Welcome to Alternia!
It was just starting to get dark in Nogou village. The sky was filled with dark clouds, though not a single drop of rain had fallen... yet, anyway. A few wooden buildings were scattered about right here, all overgrown with vines. In the center of the small clearing was a large, dark pond, surrounded by benches. People were walking all about, a few of them with pokemon, none seemed to pay much attention to you, sitting on the small bench, your back to the water.

Suddenly, THWACK! A large, red fish flew into the back of your head, narrowly missing the bench. You turned around to see the magikarp flailing about pitifully on the ground, a pink otter nearby. The slowpoke was lazily fishing, and must have tossed the weakling fish off of its tail. It slowly dragged itself up, and began walking over to its prey. The magikarp was flopping about, trying to throw itself back into the water.

Still reeling slightly from the after-effects of the spiked drink, Midori staggered to her feet and briefly scanned her surroundings. This... Nogou Village. Whatever it was, the village seemed relatively scenic and pleasant at least; seemingly peaceful, calm, leafy... Nature was soothing and comforting, at least to a girl who had never ventured beyond the parameters of the orphanage, kept within the four walls of cold, hard rock. Midori embraced freedom, yet being granted with this freedom was staggering - the price of absolute freedom was losing her concrete roots to a source of support, even if it had been the old grumpy matron that would at least take care of her, even if grudgingly.

'What's this?'

The familiar red-and-white capsule caught Midori's attention as she sought to pick up her scattered belongings. She knew what it obviously was - she had seen a Pokeball umpteen times when she was still home - but the prospect of the shady old weirdo giving her a Pokeball was incomprehensible. But something else gripped her - the fact that she now owned a Pokémon was even more overwhelming than the freedom bestowed to her. How long had she forgotten, since the day she was at the orphanage, that she once had a dream of succeeding her parent's professions as a renowned breeder AND a powerful trainer in her own right? How ironic, to have been given a chance to relieve that dream, when she had finally let go? Tentatively, she pressed the soft button for a likely surprise -

'Oddish!'

Midori stared into the earnest, leafy creature... and burst into laughter. For six years, Midori had been bound to the reality of her family's death, of her beloved's disappearance, of the bleakness of the future which Kobayashi had promised. She laughed, reminiscing Midori's earnest when she was almost granted her first Pokémon, reminiscing the Kobayashi pride as she declared her love for her family and brightened the house. At least, Midori was similar to Kobayashi in some aspects.

'...Kaori. I'll name you Kaori.'

Shad had found her new support to life.

Midori's jubilation was disrupted slightly by a fishy flop. The lingering exhilaration of freedom was now nearly gone; Midori hadn't considered what she would do with this newfound freedom, nor had she chartered her destination. She didn't even know where she was; what good would freedom be if it robbed her of her sense of purpose? Not like she had a future if she stay in the orphanage, anyway...

But wait. Life was flopping right in front of her in the form of a Magikarp, and a Slowpoke was inching towards it, ready to do what it needed to. Midori shouldn't be intervening in the food chain, but she had no intention to witness death. She could conveniently 'try out' Kaori as well, and if things went well, the Slowpoke could make an interesting companion. Maybe.

'Kaori, distract the Slowpoke with a Sweet Scent as I flop the fish back into the water. Don't provoke it too much, ok?'

Midori made a face as she thought of carrying the slimy, scaly, wet fish back into the water. Who was she kidding? If Slowpoke wouldn't be pissed the loss of his breakfast/lunch/dinner, she'd eat Magikarp raw. And if it were to rain at this time and get her thoroughly soaked...

Brilliant first day of freedom.

Wow, so you are a new trainer, eh? Finding your newfound partner, Kaori seemed to be quite a happy experience for you, but alas, as you shared a good laugh with the young grass Pokemon, you turned to see the seriousness of the situation. The Magikarp flopped about, weaker and weaker every time, it was getting tired from just splashing about. The Slowpoke meanwhile, inched closer and closer. It was so slow, with every step it took, it seemed to get slower. The tortoise and the hare, that seemed to be similar to this, but the Magikarp wasn't the one representing the hare.

While Oddish aren't particularly thought of as too fast, they have pretty decent speed, ESPECIALLY compared to Slowpoke. The Slowpoke was still inching closer, as a gentle breeze blew throughout the battle scene, and as the breeze blew, it made Kaori's leave billow in the wind. Kaori danced in the wind magnificently, as pink colored spores were released. The spores scattered towards the pink Pokemon that was Slowpoke, and moved about, around the Slowpoke, as the Slowpoke inched forth once more, before stopping in it's tracks. Slowly, it lifted it's head, and even slower, it sniffed at the scent.

The scent smelled good, but the Slowpoke was hungry. However, while it took it's time with sniffing, you had forced the Magikarp into the water again. As you picked up the Magikarp, it flapped tiredly, not knowing if it could trust you. As you placed it in the water though, it quickly swam away into the water, seemingly gone from sight. But who knows, it may be lingering, and watching the battle from the shadows, waiting for the right moment, to attack!

...LIKE NOW! With as much speed as it could, it quickly came up, as it used Intimidate to scare the Slowpoke. Slowpokes didn't show much emotion as a whole, and so, the Slowpoke's still face stared at the Magikarp, but it was cringing on the inside. The Slowpoke slowly turned away from the Magikarp though, for it knew that to get to the Magikarp now, it must take out your Oddish. That, and the fact that it was hungry, and that juicy blue plant looked tasty as well...

'What on earth-'

The bizarre turn of events proved to be unsettling for the new and inexperienced trainer. Not only did she expect the Magikarp to swim away upon contact with the water, it even had the decency to, erm, flop up and attempt to scare the living daylights out of the lumbering purple Pokémon. She could appreciate the effort, but judging from Slowpoke's appearance she could hardly tell if that had any effect. Not like it mattered a great deal.

Kaori was excellent, though. In Midori's childhood days that might have made much less of an impression on her, but having lost contact with ANYTHING POKéMON-related, she was ready to put new faith into her partner's techniques. Basic it might be, she hadn't expected Kaori to pull it off perfectly, distracting Slowpoke and giving her ample time to slip the fish back into its habitat. Part of it, of course, can be attributed to Slowpoke's natural sloth... but hey, it's a good thing that Kaori's naturally way faster than Slowpoke, right?

'Great work, Kaori. Now, let's follow-up with a - '

Wait, what exactly can a level 5 Oddish do? Even for her initial experience with Pokémon she had grown rusty - very rusty - with the basics of battling. She had never even battled before, but she would at least have enough prior knowledge to command a Grass Pokémon on what to do. She had vague ideas on what each Pokémon could do, and she knew that Magikarp was supposedly useless (well, the one she released into the water proved otherwise), but other than that... what?

'Kaori, Acid? Razor Leaf? Solarbeam? Synthesis?'

Kaori twitched tentatively at each of the attacks names Midori threw out verbally, but the trainer was totally clutching at straws: Kaori seemed to have potential in learning these famous grass moves someday, but right now it could attempt to fail incredibly at pulling off something it didn't know at all. Pokémon signal one: Lower your standard!

'How about... Absorb?'

'Odd!'

At the mention of a familiar attack Kaori let out a sharp cry before moving straight at Slowpoke. Heaving a sigh of relief, Midori activated one of the hi-tech things the man left beside Kaori's Pokeball - hopefully that could recall some information about typical Oddish-es. The idea of releasing spores triggered something within Midori though; if Kaori could release sweet-smelling spores, surely it could release other spores? Spores that stun, maybe, or perhaps induce sleep? Midori's eyes traveled to the leaves on Kaori's leaves, as she remembered how the Grass Pokémon in her family used to absorb sunlight to heal wounds, to slash stuff, and even hurl at their enemies for some vicious cuts. Midori was even almost certain that there were stronger versions of Absorb...

With only two attacks at Kaori's disposal, it might be prudent for her to learn a new skill, but-

If the wind direction is, from Kaori's position, heading towards the Slowpoke...

No matter. It was more important to gauge Kaori's ability first.

This is going to be difficult for a newbie but I'm sure you can handle it. Getting trough this battle should be like kicking a baby, wrong but easy. Well I guess that absorb will do since it is super effective against slowpoke. Slowpoke sat there as you sucked life out of him. Though he didn't look in pain I'm sure he was.

Slowpoke may move slowly but he is fat. Slowpoke moved towards you and oddish and did a tackle of sorts. It looked like it hurt slowpoke more than oddish. Though the absorb you had used earlier had not really done anything but hurt slowpoke, oddish was still damaged.

Magikarp had already done as much as possile. He could still only use splash after all. He might as well have just fled but I'm sure he can make an addition to the team if you teach him a thing or two. After all who wouldn't want a gyarados. If magikarp stays out of the way this battle will end quickly.

This match was now turning into a horrendously scripted match for Midori. Her worry for Kaori's lack of moves was proven way undue; unless the Slowpoke was hiding something this match should be a cinch because of Kaori's superior typing and speed. It was undoubtedly reassuring to have Kaori win a match so easily, but Midori's itch for a harder opponent, even for a warm-up like this, was beginning to surface. Perhaps she had innately wished for a more exciting battle, or maybe if Kaori would be placed in a slightly more dangerous decision Midori wouldn't be feeling so disappointed deep down...

What was she thinking, wishing for a harder opponent? Her desire for something more... exciting was immature and unfounded; Midori had, for one, completely forgotten that she was ever a novice in anything POKéMON-related, and for a fresh, untrained Pokémon like Kaori starting with baby steps was way more important than jumping into a furious battle which Kaori might not even perform satisfactorily. Everything had to begin somewhere; her thirst for adventure would be satisfied in time to come, as she ventures deeper into this unknown region. There might even be a day when she will look back to this very same battle, wishing instead for a simpler life.

Should I, then, still attempt something new for Kaori?

...no. Not this battle. Not yet.

'Kaori, that Slowpoke's no match for you. Use Absorb, again.'

Despite herself, Midori still managed to raise a thumbs up at the imploring Oddish. Kaori had played no part in her disappointment in this battle; in fact, she should be blamed for wishing against Kaori's spectacular performance. Her guilt as a trainer had already began to set in, and she began to realise just how hard was it to become a happy, moderately skilled trainer. Balancing difficulty and confidence of victory was not an easy thing.

And then there was the Magikarp. Before she knew it, Midori had already turned back to face where she slipped the Magikarp into the water.

'Is there some reason why you didn't flee when I released you into the water?'

Was it affection, perhaps, that explained the Magikarp's refusal to flee? Or was it just its wrath that made it stay to watch the Slowpoke's defeat?

(OOC): remember you can use one to two moves per turn and one three move turn per battle.

This was getting interesting. You were getting a little more confident in your trainer skills. I wouldn't be so sure about how this battle will end up you could have a bad turn. Who knows though you might get this battle down in a couple turns.

The clouds above you were so dense that it started to rain. Your oddish obviously had the advantage here and understood it. He started to slack off a bit even. This was bad but still it couldn't be to bad right? Oddish used absorb and took out a lot of slowpokes hp and bringing oddish's back up to full.

Slowpoke took a good hit but was prepared for it and used yawn. This made your Oddish yawn as well and fall asleep. Slowpoke then used a tackle and it was a powerful tackle also. Though it did little damage, your oddish is asleep for three turns now. Hope you have a back up plan.

(OOC): Sorry to be so mean but i thought I would make your battle alittle more challenging just don't hate me I'm usually very nice.

[OOC: Thanks for the reminder! ^^ And no, I don't mind this meanness at all as long as you do not faint my Kaori. At least this becomes slightly more interesting... Not that it's good for me anyway.]

Life had proven its point, once again, that nothing is absolutely certain. Even a cinch of a battle could turn nasty for her in one mere turn; she had clearly not expected a Yawn from something as sluggish as Slowpoke (though it did make sense for the Pokémon to Yawn, after all), and she was now reaping what she's sowed. Midori was momentarily stunned for a while, watching helplessly as Kaori fell into what seemed like a deep slumber. Her lack of experience could cost her this battle, but this was not the time to mull over her mistakes. If anything she would have to make up for her overconfidence with a slightly better strategy...

Wait, wasn't there something mentioned in the gadget about Kaori's sleeping habits?

'Hey, Slowpoke. You know what? These Oddishes are particularly weak at their leaves. If you Tackle it right in the middle of the leaves or try to nibble a part of its leaves then it will take slightly more damage. Come on: you're hungry, right? Just finish this so that I can get to a Pokecenter fast and you get your bountiful harvest of fish, ok?'

Her incoherent statement was based entirely out of desperate speculation: the only thing she knew was how Kaori preferred to sleep in the day anyway, and how it would retaliate violently if it were woken up during the day.* Given that her most sensitive area were the leaves, if the Slowpoke tried anything funny Kaori would probably Absorb its energy TWICE (at least) instinctively out of anger. If the Slowpoke were really stupid it might even choose the Tackle option which would not only be likely to wake Kaori up but also introduce itself to the various pollen in Kaori's core, some of which might even be poisonous or lethal.

Then again, she should have exerted greater control over the situation. How did she get into such a desperate stage where she must even egg the opponent on to take a chomp out of her Pokémon?

Anyway, this was her best hope. Kaori should last the entire battle without too much trouble, unless the Slowpoke decided to take a little more than a mere bite...

[OOC: * - In Oddish's Yellow Pokedex entry it is stated that If you try to yank it out the ground, it shrieks horribly. Given Oddishes' violent reaction to being held by the leaves, If Kaori were to be bitten on one of her leaves she would probably be aggressive enough to retaliate against Slowpoke, and subsequently suck the living hell out of the Slowpoke's pitiful life.
Of course, this is just pure speculation. You can tell I'm desperate =D]

[OOC to Demigod: Do you mind if I ask you whether you have a plot for this battle? If not, then I might consider requesting for a GMod for the rest of this battle just to learn some new attacks. Of course, if you have a plot going on I will request for you after the battle.]

Well being a slowpoke seemed to have its perks it also had its downfall. The slowpoke not only tackled, he tackled hard and right in oddish's leaves. This made the oddish wake up instantly and made it so pissed that she used absorb. It hit slowpoke like a freight train fully loaded with steel. Oddish not only hit slowpoke hard but hit him again with another absorb.

Slowpoke looked as if it was about to collapse. It was beat up and drained of energy. It needed to feed to get more strength. Oddish was really mad and was not gonna let this slowpoke get away with that. Although for some reason she looked at you and some how thought this was your fault. Though she wasn't sure she still gave you an evil glare. The slowpoke looked scared but its facial expression could have been confused also.

[OOC: No worries. Thanks for the refs!]

'Hey, I didn't mean to! You were sleeping like a pig; I had to wake you up in some way!'

Midori flushed red at Kaori's accusatory glance, feeling slightly indignant at Kaori's resent. Given the circumstances, she had no choice but to wake Kaori up, and what better way to do it than to tempt Slowpoke into foolishly smash into an Oddish's most sensitive part? Besides, there was no harm done; Kaori was more awake and pumped up than ever (though it was with genuine fury, not courage or anything of that sort...) and Slowpoke would probably think thrice before even thinking of getting close to the Oddish. What would Kaori have done if the Slowpoke decided to bite her head off while she was still asleep? Who was the one that ultimately turned the tables back into such a ridiculous lead for them?

'Fine... sorry, Kaori. I did get Slowpoke to Tackle you, but just to wake you up.'

The Oddish gave what seemed to be a contemptuous look, before... hopping to and fro on the spot to indicate that she wasn't too angry with Midori's decision. The trainer's tensed body relaxed a little; Kaori hadn't begrudged her for waking her up. Right, no harm done.

On the other hand, Slowpoke did seem to be a little battered. Well, it's payback for Kaori.

'Kaori, we're finishing Slowpoke off. Let's try something new.'

'Odd!'

'Listen up. Remember how you were incapacitated by drowsiness when Slowpoke Yawned at you? We're going to cripple Slowpoke with poison this time.

'This move is called Poisonpowder. Remember how you used Sweet Scent by releasing pink-colored spores in the air? Well, this attack is similar. Try to discern the different kinds of spores that you store within your leaves, and pick out the ones that will be poisonous to other kinds of predators and so on. After that, dance like you did during Sweet Scent, but disperse the poisonous spores this time. Take note of the wind direction, and try to aim towards the Slowpoke. For better accuracy, you might want to get Slowpoke's attention first, maybe with another Sweet Scent. If possible, you might even want to go closer to the Slowpoke first, release the Sweet Scent to capture the Pokémon's attention, then immediately follow-up with a Poisonpowder so that Slowpoke will have no time to react at all!

'After that, just end this turn with one last Absorb.'

With a light tug, Midori extracted a familiar red-and-white sphere similar to Kaori's abode - an empty Pokeball - from the bag. She had noticed a stock of these while she was examining the contents of the bag, she knew what it does... but she had never tried it before. Even if she hadn't the intention to capture Slowpoke from the start, she could possibly try to have some experience with capturing?

Grasping the ball tightly in her hand, Midori waited for the imminent collapse of the Slowpoke. If the Pokémon ever showed signs of near-collapse (read: red health), her first attempt at capturing a Pokémon would be complete.

[If that wasn't clear, Kaori uses Sweet Scent - Poisonpowder - Absorb. If the Slowpoke's health drops into the red zone, or if the Pokémon actually faints, then Midori will attempt a capture.]

Kaori shook that bunch of leaves nestled on her head. Poison – well, she didn’t actually know that a sweet, sweet Pokémon like her would have freaking poison within her. Frankly, the thought sent the little Oddish reeling backwards with surprise. You never did tell her that she was so … so deadly … well, the truth was out now, at any rate. The plant Pokémon stiffened her small body, shook a little where she stood and stared at you. Pink spores were A-okay, she reckoned – since they did no harm, but poison, they did! They caused things to die, to wither, to be unable to do … well, whatever it wanted. Still, it did not faze Kaori further once she got over the initial shock. (Why hadn’t she poisoned herself on accident, anyway?)

Tapping her little feet on the ground and giving out a cry or two, Kaori danced around. Wisps of sweet-smelling spores floated through the air, teasing the Slowpoke’s nostrils. Well-known for their ‘density’, the pink Pokémon gave a little yawn before resuming his generally blank look towards Kaori. She smelt nice, he could give her that. Um … he felt as if he’d gotten heavier, too – the same sensation he felt not too long ago. Was the fish getting to him? Hopefully not; else he’d have to give up Atkins and go on some random ham-and-egg one. With that, he slowly started to retreat into the water.

… and the worst thing that could happen, happened.

Randomly and all of a sudden, Magikarp mustered up the courage to actually flop towards Slowpoke. Thankfully (if you happened to be seeking a new addition in the form of that fish to your team), the Slowpoke was dunce enough to brush off the carp. It was at this time that Kaori felt that the smell simply didn’t quite suffice in enticing the water-type. Now … to try out whatever that poison move was. First, Kaori needed to search.

Dammit, why did spores have to come in many types? She felt a medley of spores, each with different effects nestled within her, but which was the right one? She didn’t know, and you probably didn’t either. “Odd!” yelled Kaori, trying to get some help but finding none at the moment. With a pout (that simply shone with determination, mind you), oh, and a deep breath, Kaori wobbled around and released the spores in dozens. You might want to cover your face or something to prevent inhalation of that stuff.

Kaori didn’t quite achieve the intended effect, though. She could only stare agape at what she had done, the following Absorb simply forgotten. On one side was poor Magikarp, barely able to twitch her whiskers – though her tail worked just fine – due to paralysis; on the other was Slowpoke, who looked like he was just ready to doze off. His eye drooped, but soon snapped open when Magikarp accidently slapped him across his face, eliciting a gurgle from Slowpoke.

Your attempt at move-teaching didn’t quite take flight since the rain (which was getting heavier by the second) simply diluted the spores the instant they fired off from home-base. Instead, you ended up with a myriad of status effects on the wild Pokémon. Oh well, stuff could be better, but it could have been worse. At least Kaori knew not to release the spores for Sweet Scent, so there you go, a step forward.

It wasn't only Kaori that was overwhelmed by such a chaotic turn of events; even her trainer found herself in a state of utter bewilderment, totally losing track of what was going on and what she should do now. This was, of course, none of Kaori's fault, but this surprise that the Oddish managed to pull out was... pleasant, to say the least. It actually didn't really matter if Kaori was actually miles away from achieving her goal; Midori was happy enough to find that none of Kaori's unintended insanity worsened the situation in any way. Ah well, since this was Kaori's first experience with battling, might as well let her have an easy time.

Midori had to admit though: telling a young, naive Oddish that she had the ability to poison was close enough to a sin... but to allow it to subconsciously do other stuff even more potentially dangerous to the Pokémon... which was more cruel? Ah well. It's not like Kaori's entirely innocent either. Look at the amount of damage it dealt to Slowpoke!...

Speaking of which, it would be more prudent for Kaori to end the match. Given the worsening weather, if Kaori couldn't do much to attempt Poisonpowder now then she would probably have an even slimmer chance of learning the skill as the rain grew heavier. Her new intentions hadn't faded; Slowpoke was all too ready for its imminent capture. Sweet, sweet Pokeball~

'Kaori, snap out of that trance please!'

Midori's command had a profound impact on Kaori's musing; the Oddish, despite her disbelief at her innate ability to cause so much harm, was probably way too respectful towards her trainer to ignore her. The lamentation of her degradation, from a sweet angel to a poisonous devil, could come later - Midori probably had way more important stuff for her to do.

'Kaori- uh, that was a brilliant first attempt, really! While you did not manage to poison the Slowpoke as I intended, you were actually able to release spores that had - uh - other effects from poison: you paralyzed the Magikarp's whiskers, for instance, (I think - it looks like the fish can't control it for some reason.) and nearly made Slowpoke fall asleep!'

Kaori's affronted look was back. How was being able to paralyze living objects a good thing by her angelic moral standards? Talk about fail rhetoric.

'...but we'll leave the attack as that; the rain's coming in and the conditions are bad for you to practice. Let's end the battle: there's no point dragging it out for too long. Thanks to your Sweet Scents, the Slowpoke now has too little awareness to even consider dodging your attack. We can finish this with an Absorb.'

Midori's initial attempt to capture Slowpoke had been thwarted by Kaori's admittedly not-so-desirable Poisonpowder-like attack (but hey, it's a pretty good effort from a young Pokémon really; besides, the rain was ruining half of Kaori's awesomeness.) but this time, Slowpoke would have a hard time escaping. From her point of view, Slowpoke seemed battered enough for a capture and Kaori's Absorb would be just the right thing to injure it enough for a successful capture. Fingering the catch of the empty Pokeball, which had been resting in her hand since the last turn, Midori prepared herself to throw the Pokeball at Slowpoke. Any moment now, Kaori would be firing that final Absorb - the cue for her to throw the ball...

And then she can finish her issues with the Magikarp.

Simple, really. Kaori uses Absorb and Midori throws a Pokeball at the Slowpoke.

I know you're out there somewhere...
You try to tell someone that what you just posted is really that simple and you actually think that they're going to be nice to you? If it's really that simple, don't you think that they would know that that's all that's going on? And further more, do you really think that I'm actually mad, or do you realize that this is nothing more than me bantering on in hopes of being somewhat comical? Yes, I'm not one to get angry like the first two lines in this ref suggested, and you'd know that if you knew me. Unfortunately I'm afraid we haven't met, and as such I'd like to introduce myself as DarkSlayer1331, commonly referred to as DS here on Alternia.

Looking at this battle, I have to say that there's pretty much no possible way for you fail. That is, you should be able to either knock out the Pokemon, capture the Pokemon, or both should your heart so desire. and looking at what you're doing, my guess is that you simply want to catch this Pokemon and go on about your business. Well we shall see how that goes for you, shall we, and then maybe even see what exactly this Magikarp will do with you. After all, you wouldn't be too surprised if a Pokemon turned on you at the last second, would you? I mean, you are fighting another Water type Pokemon, and so I'm surprised that Magikarp is even on your side, though I can't make that call really. Still, we shall see what happens, no?

A green glow surrounded Oddish for a moment, and then you saw a similar glow come from Slowpoke, although his facial expression wasn't of pure happiness. No, I would say that he's pretty much in pure agony, while your Oddish seems to absolutely love what's going on right now. The Absorb was, of course, very successful, although it did not knock out Slowpoke as you had hoped. Instead, it left him with enough health to retaliate somewhat, until Magikarp came in and gave it a slap with his tail. How it was able to jump out of the water and smack the Pokemon and get back in all in one go is beyond me. None the less, she managed to do just that, and this did indeed finish off the much slower Pokemon.

So you threw the Pokeball which sucked up Slowpoke in some red light and yadda yadda, you captured her. Normally you would get 10 :exp but because you had another Pokemon on your side, you only got 5, which is just enough to level up Oddish. Magikarp then did what I had thought she might do to you. She turned on you. And what I mean by that is that she threw herself out of the water yet again, landing on the very edge of the water, and began to Splash. You could just ignore her and carry on, or you could take up her offer and battle her as well. The call is up to you. I shall add the experience and Slowpoke to your Profile right now.

FOOD~~~!
[OOC: I guess I'll say hallo to you, DS ^^;; *ish fearful coz you seemed angry*]

In essence, that was actually pretty efficiently fast for a Pokémon battle; with a significant type-advantage and an ally (albeit a not-so-powerful one) against Slowpoke Kaori was perhaps basking in the full glory of what would probably be her easiest Pokémon battle ever. The childish Oddish began her own flippant little tap dance in the middle of the growing rain, as Midori hastened to pick up the Pokeball that successfully secured her first ever caught Pokémon. Unlike Oddish, who like other plants enjoyed quite a bit of rain as well as the sun, Midori wasn't too fond of getting caught in the rain - and potentially get drenched with not much of an alternative for a change of clothes. Facing the drizzling sky, Midori had no choice but to probably head off for the nearest shelter.

'Kaori, great job with the battle I guess. Let's go; I don't really wish to be caught in the rain.'

The Oddish looked disdainfully at her trainer, before wobbling towards Midori in a casual, indifferent way. Why did the trainer dislike rain so much, Kaori would probably never understand; there were instances where she would prefer sun over rain or vice-versa, but in general she was pretty happy for either to happen because it didn't really affect her flourishing leaves. Still, she wasn't meek enough to directly refuse an order, and Midori was nice enough of a trainer for Kaori to listen willingly to her. Just a typical relationship between I'm-a-really-young-and-kind-trainer and an obedient starter Pokémon. No cracks or anything. At least, not yet.

But wait. There was something nudging Midori in the mind; in her hurry to get out of the place with a newly-caught Slowpoke she seemed to have forgotten something. Something swimming in her mind for quite a bit during the match, but kind of slipped out of her concentration span after that. Short-term memory loss much?

And the reminder came, in the form of a tremendous flop out of the water. Right, the Magikarp. Sadly, it seemed to have drawn little attention from Midori since the match; apart from consciously trying to set it free when Slowpoke fished it out, Midori had virtually no contact with the fish other than watching it flop out of the water a few times to, er, slap Slowpoke in the face with its fishy tail. Which did do some damage, mind you.

Was it a sign of recklessness that sent Magikarp out of the water? What did it want with Midori? It didn't seem likely for the Magikarp to flop out of the water accidentally for the _th time in a row; evidently it wanted to have something to do with Midori. Did it want to battle? Or join Midori? Or slap Midori in the face for interfering in its life? Or express gratitude for Kaori saving its life? The mysteries of a Pokémon's mind, flopping right in front of Midori in the form of a lively fish. Even in the growing rain, Midori could probably afford some time to listen to what this Pokémon had to say, or do.

And no, it wasn't in Midori's nature to be unkind. Apologies for those of you who wished to see Midori punt the fish right back into the seas.

'Magikarp, you're free now. Or is there something that you wish to tell me?'

And under the assumption that Kaori could probably understand what Magikarp might say (since Pokémon seemed to understand each other, even if they were way different), Midori might as well send Kaori as an envoy to Magikarp since she wouldn't know what exactly the fish wanted with her anyway. So...

'Kaori, why don't you ask what Magikarp wants from me?'

'Odd!' Geez, what, in the world of sweetest-smelling poison, was the point of talking to such a pathetic fish?

Kaori gingerly approached the Magikarp. Upon the plant Pokémon’s nearing, the carp Pokémon flailed around idiotically, whiskers still robbed of the ability to flail. It really was quite funny (in an odd way) when the red fish wriggled about in response to Kaori’s prompting, but the whiskers were as still as … a tiger waiting to pounce. Either way, the Oddish tapped her foot and asked the all-important question, but got only a few gurgles in return. She turned back to you, tilted her head and put on a face that adequately said: “What’s the point, anyway? She can’t even talk!” At this, Magikarp wriggled and managed to flop upright. She started to show off – well, not exactly, when her species in question wasn’t what one would call exactly impressive – and bounced a feet here and there.

… still, it was an attempt.

She wished to follow you and be a part of your team, much to Kaori’s disdain. The Oddish just couldn’t imagine an ugly brute like the fish on her side … especially when all it did was flop pathetically. She had half a mind to release some of those spores again – oh yes, she really, really did – and send the Magikarp into oblivion where it would (hopefully) be reborn as something prettier. She tossed her head from side to side; her crisp leaves thoroughly enjoying the raindrops trickling unto it.

Magikarp gave a yawn and hopped around for a few feet. Kaori walked right up to it and started chattering in Pokémon-speak, a tongue that you … might not want to learn. Whatever Kaori was saying at her ‘friend’, it didn’t sound too pleasant. On the other hand, Magikarp was contentedly listening to what your Oddish had to present … hmm. You’ll probably never know what’s going on at this rate, so I suggest you – whoa!

A little otter-like Pokémon trotted out from the nearby foliage, fur rather wet from the rain (and possibly water). Kaori was attracted to the new arrival in an instant. So … on your left was Kaori trotting over to the Buizel, and on your right was Miss Magikarp. Yay, more Pokémon. Oh, and more rain as well … you’re getting rather drenched, you know? At least the rain seemed like it was going to let up in a half-hour more.
