The thing with Counter is that it needs the user to have health, enough health to absorb the attack and then reciprocate. The shady guy saw Nibbly's poor health and knew this. Counter had been great so far - but it really wouldn't work anymore, not with the amount of damage this snake had been putting out combined with the poisoning. There was nothing for it, then. "Nibbly!" he said, trying to claw back any kind of victory. "Two Leers then a Bite!" Lowering the Sneel's defence meant that she would do much more damage, but with the disparage in health and Sneel's steel type... didn't look good. The two pokémon glared at each other at the same time, lowering each other's defences, and as Shrakk slithered forwards to execute the attack part of his move, Nibbly stubbonly Leered him again. Their defences were both in poor shape, and in a last ditch attempt to win, Nibbly lunged forwards at the same time that Shrakk opened his mouth and jerked forwards. It didn't look good for the Rattata when her leap included a small limp, a sudden wave of poisonous pain, Nido's contribution to this fight. The two pokémon grabbed a hold of each other, Nibbly biting down onto Shrakk's lower neck, and the snake wrapping his jaws around Nibbly's middle. Nibbly had lunged with such determination that her Bite had been a critical, and so both caused simultaneous, substantial damage - but there could only be one winner. Nibbly lost her grip as she lost consciousness, and Shrakk, despite his predatory instincts, dropped the rat. She had been a worthy foe indeed, and the rather brutal snake could just about respect that. The shady guy didn't seem to react for a moment. Wordlessly, he pulled out Nibbly's pokéball and recalled the fallen rat. Before he put the ball back into the folds of his cloak, he gently kissed it, and then finally looked at you. His expression was serious, though not entirely without good humour. At least, he was trying not to become sad and desperate. "Alas, friend," he said, falling into the faintly theatrical manner of before, "I can only disappoint. I have no money to give you." In an attempt to prove this, he pulled out his wallet, and opened it to you, showing only a few measly coins. "My last customer completely cleared me out... just like you, I suppose." But he wasn't content to leave it there. You had just roundly beaten him, so he had no right to deny you your prize, even though he apparently had nothing. Stepping towards you a little, he seemed to get an idea, and raised a hand to indicate his brainwave. He also raised the other hand immediately afterwards, palm facing you, to show that he meant no harm by moving closer... just in case you wanted to beat him up yourself. Which, to be honest, he wouldn't blame you for. "But, you know, I'm in the interesting situation where somebody owes me money. Rather a lot. More than I owe you. And I would get it myself... well, I have tried - but your powers of... persuasion rather surpass mine." He gestured lightly at the Sneel, indicating the battlefield and fight in general. "If I give you her name, can you get my money? I will give you everything you owe then." Aware that there was nothing stopping you from running off with the money, should you get it, he attempted to sweeten the deal. "If you do bring it back. I will help teach you the move which nearly beat you." He smiled, obviously meaning Counter; a free move tutor was to be yours should you want it. He seemed genuine, despite his shady demeanour, and waited with baited breath for your decision. RESULTS. READ REF FIRST! |

Sneel had done great. "Good job, Shrakk." Kaz recalled the snake pokemon back to his pokeball. Not so fond of natives to Alternia, but maybe could reconsider for Shrakk and Velix. Time would tell. Kazuki was amazed. The shady man just offered him a job, the money the guy would owe, and a free move tutor of a move that could be wonderful if Kaz could master it's use and how it really worked. However, Kaz was looking for some down time. Some time to teach Nido and the others moves. Well, his dream of evolving Nido to it's final stage was still there. Indeed, Kaz already could tell that the search for this person would result in a fight, and Nido was Kaz's primary choice of power. "Give me the person's name, where to find her, and how much she owes you." Kaz smiled at the guy, and put a hand on his shoulder, but then removed it after thinking the friendly gesture reassured the man. Kaz could use this as his advantage. A free move tutor, and on the side, could tutor others. He was still waiting for the Voltorb to be added through the poketch, but when it came, he could easily teach it moves that would only benefit the team. "As soon as you give me the information, I'll be stopping at the Pokemon Center. Maybe we should go together, and you can explain things on the way. This way, your Aipom and Rattata could be healed as well." Kaz wasn't a heartless guy, but wanted to get things done. Surprisingly, Kaz kind of wanted to make a friend out of this guy, maybe change him not to be such a con artist. |

It was entirely true to say that your friendliness bemused the shady guy. He had expected anger - after all, he was putting more obstacles in the way of your prize money - but you were merely understanding, sympathetic even! The shock on his face was genuine, quite a contrast to his usual ability to keep his expressions and body language controlled. At the most, he had thought you might grudgingly accept his offer and demand the details, but no. As you offered to accompany him to the pokécenter - for that was inevitably his next step, with two KO'd pokémon - his look of surprise only got larger. Were you for real? I mean, it wasn't out of the question that the idea of a free move tutor was your incentive... but then he remembered your hand on his shoulder, and concluded that you were just a decent guy. He almost felt bad for wanting to swindle you out of money, but he wasn't quite that moral. "Alright," he said, a little cautious and suspicious but prepared to go along with you. "Give me a moment?" All he needed to do was collapse the table he had used, tablecloth and all. He pushed it into a gap between two buildings and was done. Did he live here, or something? "Alright," he said again, still wary, but quickly warming up to the idea of you being friendly. I mean, he had nothing worth stealing - other than his pokémon - so really, what was there to be afraid of? You'd only get your money if you cooperated, so it was logical that you'd cooperate. "Alright," he said once more, and as you two began to make your way back to the pokécenter, he ruffled around in his voluminous cloak to produce a simple notepag and a pen. "You want to know everything do you?" He licked the end of the pen, found a clean page of the notepad, and began to write as he spoke. "Her name is Laurie Trough, and she's daytime manager of a very fly retail store in the middle of town. She also happens to owe me no less than the tidy sum of $342." He paused, and then coughed lightly. "Yeah, precisely that - don't ask. Just know it's, well, legitimate. No funny business. Anyway, I've been unable to get my money for three weeks, and as you can see, I could do with it. If you can actually get it back, then I'll give you the money I owe you - $120 it was, right? And Counter, too, don't forget that." It was as if he was making sure you'd keep the deal, encouraging you to bring the money back to him. He really had no reason to lie to you anymore; you'd already whooped his ass. Explanation over, he handed you the bit of paper, which contained in his elegant scrawl all the details he had just given you in note form, including the name of the store Laurie worked at. This talk had brought you close to the Pokécenter, but not quite. You'd have time to think about all this and make your decision first, and then healing and setting off in the direction you had chosen. Edited by seekee, May 16 2010, 01:06 PM.

They were about to arrive at the Pokemon Center, and the Shady Man had revealed all sorts of details. Kaz was stoked about getting this job done. Underneath things, he was doing it to be a good person, helping out someone, but also for the experience. He had recently taken an interest in the Sneel he had gotten, as it was the winner to the battle between him and the Rattata. Sneel could be a good pokemon, but it also convert some attention towards Velix. It was Kaz's only pokemon to know an egg move, and it had interested him before. However, now he had sights on evolution and move tutoring. In the healing facility, Kaz had taken a piece of paper from the man, copying done the details. Laurie Trough. Daytime manager. Retail store. Located in middle of town. And of course, the price he was to get and a tutor. Counter. Can't forget them. After they were done, (I'm going to assume the guy went to leave as well) the two left. Going around the corner, Kaz stopped. "I never caught your name." He said, just realizing it now. "And if you don't mind, I need to be prepared for this Laurie. I'm going to do some move tutoring of my own." Kaz sent out all six of his pokemon. Nido, Machop, Velix, Sneel, Mareep, and Volt. He had finally received a beep in the Pokemon Center, saying Voltorb was added. Now is where things got interesting. ![]() "I know this is the first time we're meeting," Kaz laid a hand on the ball's forehead, "But we have a job to do, but first, I need to teach you a few moves. I'm going to teach you Spark." Stepping back, Kaz looked around, seeing a stray tree decoration in town. It looked sturdy. "Use charge, but also combine it with tackle. What I mean is use tackle on that tree, and just before impact, use charge at the same time." "Voooolt." Let Kaz know Voltorb understood something. ![]() "Long time no see, buddy." Kaz smiled, and put a soft hand on Machop's shoulder. "We gotta job. Focus punch needs to be learned for now." Stepping back again, Kaz wanted Machop to get back in the mood of things. "Use focus on your attack, if you have too, but focus your energy. Meditate a little if need be, and just imagine having power in your fist. The move sometimes does take awhile, but when you think you are ready--punch the air. This is just to get you warmed up." ![]() Ashamed, Kaz tried to warm up to the poison pokemon. "I am sorry, pal. I didn't know it was going to happen." He was referring to the defeat Nido just had, and how down Kaz felt about letting the pokemon trust him, but failing. "We're not in a battle, so it is safe to tutor." Kaz stepped back, again. "Try to be aware of the poison energy that flows within you. Your body is able to make toxic chemicals, therefore you should be aware of the poison energy. Once you are, try to focus it in your horn. You have small hands, and Poison Jab will be either in the horn or hand." ![]() This is also the first time meeting this pokemon, with more information flowing through the pokedex. The sheep pokemon looked cute, was female, and Kaz had secret plans to breed this one and Nidoran. Unfortunately, whether the egg came out as Nidoran or Mareep, he'd probably sell it off. "Your move today is: Thundershock and Charge. Because throughout the process, you may learn Charge, which will be awesome for battle when using the first move." Kaz raised a finger, showing he was getting into the teaching mood, "You are an electric type, and your body can therefore generate electricity on demand. You may or may not be aware of that. However, today you will be. Within you, I want you to simple generate electricity, and hold it. This will go more with Charge, so I guess we can focus on it more." :sneel The winner of the previous battle, a snake pokemon that took down Rattata. "You're move, or should I say, moves. Well, the first is headbutt. Then Iron Tail. First, Headbutt is fairly simple. Go to that tree that Voltorb is going to. Use a Strike attack on it, but using your head--head only." :velix Velix is the only one to know an egg move, and it makes her a special addition to Kaz's team. Although she isn't used much, this could change things around. Releasing the pokemon, and having her await her turn was sort of planned. "Velix, you are going to learn very special moves. Psychic moves. Within you," Kaz pointed to where her heart may be, well, at least is on a human since he didn't know pokemon anatomy. "You have a psychic ability. I want you to become aware of it first, then we're going to teach you: Confusion, Hypnosis, and eventually Psychic and Psybeam. The latter two are for later." Kaz just wanted her to become aware right now. It was best she knew what was in her, before progressing. |

Tutoring six Pokemon at once? I tried that, didn't end so well. Well, thankfully for you, I don't have the power to spawn a Salamence to Hyper Beam your entire team to death, now a Croconaw to chase you mercilessly after eating your Taillow. But enough about me, this is about you. The shady guy just laughed when you asked his name and returned to the alley you met him in. Ah well, you'll find out eventually. Aaaaanyway, back to the tutors! Let's start with Volt, the Voltorb. He knew both Charge and Tackle, so combining the two shouldn't be too difficult, no? Well, let's just see how this works. The little guy hopped up and down a bit to get the blood flowing (do Voltorb even have blood?). When he felt ready, he leaped forward with a Tackle and used Charge just as he hit the tree. Unfortunately, Charge absorbs electricity, not release it. So while he had the idea right, it was backwards. I'd suggest using Charge first, and then releasing it on impact. Next is Machop. Focus Punch, eh? Well luckily you have prior training in that attack. Machop remembered how he did it before, and tried to do it again. He hit the tree with a great thud, making a mark where his fist impacted. He still had a while to go, but it was some progress. He just needed some more practice mastering his focus. Now we come to Nido. Poison Jab seems like an easy move to teach, and it is. Still, he's a long way from learning it naturally, so this will take a while. He focused the poison in his horn like he would for a Poison Sting, but he tried to hold it there. This was easier said than done, and Nido felt it difficult to hold his focus while moving. Still, he was able to hold the energy there while stationary, if just barely. Baby steps, and he'll get it eventually. Moving on, we come to Mareep. Thundershock, eh? One might say that learning it by level up would be easier, especially since it'll only take one more level. Regardless, you decided to tutor it. I can't blame you, I did the same thing with my Elekid (except I gave up and just leveled him up). Still, tutoring is what you chose, so tutoring you will get. Now, Mareep had absolutely no idea how to generate electricity. She just knew that there was some way of doing it. She closedher eyes real hard, and focused hard. A tiny spark flew off of her wool, but that was it. Teaching a Pokemon to generate electricity is pretty hard, I tried it. I suggest giving up and letting her learn it by leveling up to level 10. Shrakk. My old Sneel. Good memories. Well, not really, I didn't really use him once. At all. Anyway, it was Headbutt you'll be teaching, eh? Well, it's a very useful move. Damage plus the chance of causing the foe to flinch, pretty sweet if you ask me. Shrakk headed over to the tree you pointed out, and after watching Volt's attempt at Spark, he decided to go at it himself. Headbutt, that is, not Spark. He went up to the tree and smacked his head against it. Obviously, this was quite painful. Still, he'd done some damage to the tree, a visible mark was in the spot he hit. His head was throbbing, and he had a nice bump on his head where he made impact. Maybe he should try to control the amount of strength used, but he does have the right idea. Finally, Velix. She was learning to become aware of her psychic abilities. She searched within herself and found...something. Not sure what it is, but something. She felt some vague weak psychic energy flowing from her. It would take a lot more than that to learn any sort of psychic attacks, but the energy was there. Overall you'd done decently. You may want to consider some alternatives, but otherwise it wasn't bad. It may take some time, but you're on the right track. Learning Curves

Kaz was happy with the progress he made. Some weren't as well as he hoped, but each came in contact with the idea. He played with the Poketch, a second source of how he would help the pokemon. Pictures. Maybe hard to understand, but usable.![]() "Come here, buddy." Being so friendly was a good thing, and maybe along this road, it could pay off somehow. Bringing up a picture, Voltorb looked at the human's arm, curious. "This is some pokemon using Spark. The move I want you to learn." There were a few, but Kaz focused on this one. It was a Shinx using Spark. "You have to basically tackle while using electricity. This time, use Charge, and then use Tackle. Switching it around might help a lot." No joke, it was the next step Kaz had thought of (Funny you put it in the ref). "See this?" Kaz had Machop over by him, and was also showing a picture. "You must use your concentration, and focus, and release a punch that is powerful through that focus." Kaz pointed to the tree, meaning for Machop to practice. ![]() "Alright. Alright. What can I say, not so much of progress for you. But no one did exceptionally well but Volt. You seem to be having trouble on maintaining the poison. Here are two pictures. This picture shows a Croagunk using Poison Jab. But this one shows a pokemon moving while maintaining the status of Poison Jab. Work on holding in the poison. Use Poison Sting, but hold it in. Twice if you have too. Remain perfectly still for this time." ![]() Well, it did seem to have some improvement, but definitely leveling it up just seemed easier. Alright, so be it. Why not give his new sheep pokemon a try, right? Kaz looked around. The place he picked seemed kind of remote, but you never know. "Wild pokemon. That is what we need. One just for you." Kaz tried looking, but in the mean time, "Just keep trying to generate electricity. When you think you have some, try pushing it out of your body and away from you." :sneel "Look at this." Sneel was looking at Kaz, awaiting new instructions. Instead of vocally, Kaz showed a picture. "This shows a pokemon headbutting a Charizard. That kind of pokemon, the fiery flying type, are pretty strong. Imagine that strength. That's what I need from you. Try once more, but try holding some of that power, and on impact, stick it to that tree. Let it have it." :velix "Good job, you seem to have something in your head." Kaz didn't know what it was, but he thought to himself if it was the psychic ability. "Focus on that inner power--the psychic energy. This may be advanced, but try pushing it away from your body," Kaz moved to the side, grabbing a rock. "After holding the energy, try using the power to move this rock. I doubt you'll fully grasp moving it, but you never know." |

More of the massive tutoring session! Yay! Well this should be fun (if not incredibly time consuming). Let's get right to it then, no time to waste. Starting up is Volt, the Voltorb. Telling him to reverse the order of things was a good idea. He charged up some electricity into his body, and when he felt sparks flying off of him, he Tackled the same tree as before. When he made contact he released the electricity, sending sparks flying all through out the tree. He'd done pretty well. He's got the right idea, but he still sees it as two attacks. All he needs to do is merge the two parts of the attack into one, and he'll be golden. Spark - 65% Now we come to Machop once more. Focusing hard, he felt the power flow to his fist. He punched the tree hard, causing it to sway a bit. He'd gotten some great power out of that punch. Still, something was lacking. The picture did help, but he still needed some more focus. He could not be distracted by anything around him. He'd need to learn to shut out literally everything except for his fist and his target. Only then will he tap into the true power of Focus Punch. Focus Punch - 65% Next is Nido. The images helped him quite a bit, but the attack was still far off. He focused hard on holding the poison energy in his horn, and when he felt it fill up some oozed out. He tried hard to hold it there, but he got a little bit of a headache. Some purple liquid oozed out of the horn, and you figured it was some poison. He'd been storing a lot, and it was pretty tough. Still, he was on the right track. He just needs more practice holding more and more poison inside of him. Poison Jab - 25% Fourth on the list is Shrakk (since Mareep is no longer tutoring she will be handled last). He saw the image and was a bit confused. You were telling him to Headbutt, like the Glalie, but you were telling him to be strong like the Charizard, who was actually the one getting attacked in that image. He was a bit confused, but he decided to Headbutt the tree anyway (that must be one damn strong tree to absorb such abuse). He smacked really hard into it with his head, making a noticeable mark. His head was throbbing quite a bit. He was using quite some power alright. In fact, he was using TOO much power. He'd need to control it if he was to use the attack without taking recoil damage. Headbutt - 60% Last on our tutoring list is Velix. She felt some weak vague energy flow through her, but would it be enough? Well it's my job to answer that question. She found a small pebble on the ground and tried to move it with her mind. She wasn't entirely sure what to do exactly, but she imagined it lifting up. She tried as hard as she could, but nothing. Until...it wobbled! For a split second, barely enough for anyone to have noticed, but it DID wobble a teeny tiny bit. She was on her way! Don't get me wrong, she's still got a loooooong way to go, but it was s start. Confusion - 5% And finally we come to Mareep. She'd been sitting tight, trying to build up some electrical energy. She'd managed to create a few little sparks, but not too much more. Looking around, she saw a Grimer wandering the streets, and decided he would be a good opponent to give her that last level. She ran towards him and gave him a mean Tackle. He was too surprised by the attack to counter, and because of the small buildup of electricity inside of Mareep, he was paralyzed by her Static! Well, you wanted a fight, now you've got one. Level 9 38/43 99%{Minorly paralyzed} |

So, move tutoring was sucking right now. The pictures, and the obvious instructions weren't getting too far into the pokemon's head. Which, Kaz didn't blame them. It was something new, and although easy to someone, it may not be to the other. He surveyed each one, even Mareep and her battle. He wanted to start in a line, but looked towards Mareep first. "Mareep, use two Tackles. You know little, so just do that." He gave up on trying to teach her, hoping this battle was all hers, and that she wouldn't need help. If she did, the Grimer could make a good subject for Volt or Shrakk. Either way, it was time for move tutoring. ![]() "So, the pictures helped little. But if you notice in the picture, the pokemon are covered in what looks like an electrical aura. Hmm. Try to use Charge, focus on using Charge before moving. Then try to cast it outside of your body. It may almost become a tutor for thundershock, which is probably next. When you think you had it, use tackle. The tree will do." ![]() "Hm. Your focusing trait is just... not there." Kaz looked around, and in the distance, he seen another small tree. It may be quieter over there. "See that tree?" The boy pointed, grinning a little. "Go over there. It looks kind of quite. Hold your fist up, close your eyes, and use Focus. Then just punch the tree after you think you have it." ![]() The pictures showed the hand or fingers, or limbs as glowing purple. Maybe dowsing himself in poison could do it. "You may hurt yourself doing this, but the success of this tutor will be great. Use Toxic, sending it straight up in the air. Get in the way, have it shower you. But try to get the majority on your horn. After that, store some more, and then hit the tree." Somehow, somewhere, Kaz would do this and get Nido and the rest of the team up in moves for their options. :sneel Headbutt didn't seem to hard, yet the Sneel was exerting too much energy. How could Kaz possibly help this snake pokemon? Even he didn't know. Would hesitating help? No, that sounds idiotic. In a battle, Kaz would like for the Headbutt to be strong, and for that to happen, Sneel would need to put force into it. But, too much force is too much force. "On impact, jerk your head back, almost hesitating your body from a full impact." The boy could see that the pictures must've confused him, though they were the best he could find. The Glalie was using it's headbutt against a Charizard was strong, and even though Kaz only made a comment about the species of Charizard being strong, he could see Sneel wanted him to be as strong. "Well, Velix, I didn't see anything... so just keep trying. Put more focus into it." Short, simple, and sweet. She had to just keep trying, but would that be what each pokemon would have to do? Just keep trying? Stay doing the same thing over and over until it worked... Kaz hoped not. He needed a way to tutor these pokemon! |

Wow. This is quite the list you have going on here. Not that I can say much, considering I’ve done more than this at once. At least yours is fairly condensed, and easy to thumb through. So, while this will be a tad bit time consuming, why don’t we just get it started and see where we go? First up was your… Voltorb, right? Of course I’m right, since I’m setting the order in this ref anyway! So, you were trying to teach him Spark, eh? I’m just curious as to why you didn’t try Thundershock first, considering he needed to be able to expel the electricity from his body and surround himself with it before tackling a target. Well, that’s just my theory about it, anyway. So, Volt’s issue was still the fact that he couldn’t expel the electricity very well and that he was still thinking about it in regards of two separate attacks. This time you had told him to gather more of the electricity and try to wrap it around his body. In theory, this would be exactly where it should be. Now Volt just needed to put it into practice. He charged up the electricity inside of his body until he was satisfied with the amount, then began trying to discharge it and coat his body with it. You could tell it was starting to work because there was a faint light resonating from his figure. His eyes, which had been closed in concentration, shot open with determination as he rolled as fast as he could towards the tree. By the time he got to the tree and slammed into it however, most of that light had faded away. Still, you made pretty good progress with it. For now, I would suggest focusing on how long he can maintain it, then possibly addressing the right amount of energy for it when it actually hit something. Spark Learning Curve_____(75%) Moving on! Next up was your Machop and his attempts to learn the powerful Focus Punch! Would he be able to do it though, I wonder? After all, you had sent him off on his own next to a tree in order to keep the commotion down for him. That alone would give him a little easier time with trying to focus, one would assume. Luckily enough, it did make quite a difference. He stood in front of the tree for quite some time, simply focusing on the energy flowing to his fist. Nothing else disturbed him. Even the commotion of your training didn’t go farther than his ears. This was where he needed to be. He was in a state of complete concentration. In a single movement, he lashed out and punched the tree with as much force as he could muster. The effect was impressive it, considering it splintered the wood where he hit it. It was almost there. Just needed a little bit more power in it. On the upside, he seemed to have improved his focus. Focus Punch Learning Curve_____(90%) I don’t know whether or not to question your actions as far as Nidoran goes. I mean, he can’t be poisoned, being a poison type himself, but still. I mean, yeah, coating his horn in poison does admittedly seem like a decent way of assisting his use of Poison Jab. Well, regardless, what’s done is done. He followed your directions and sent up a Toxic attack into the sky, letting it rain down and coat his entire body. Needless to say, he didn’t exactly appreciate the disgusting goop coating him at all. But, he went with it. His horn was covered decently, so he smacked himself into the tree. I don’t really think you’d see much of an effect, other than his horn stabbing the tree. However, this was actually a good building block towards Poison Jab. Perhaps if you just try secreting a bit of poison from the tip of his horn so that it just coats his horn, you might be closer than you think. Poison Jab Learning Curve_____(40%) Phew… almost done. For the record, this is the most tutors I’ve done in one ref so far. Brief interjection aside, we are moving onto your Sneel and Headbutt. From what I’ve read, his problem was just using a bit too much power with the attack. Normally that wouldn’t be such a bad thing, but recoil damage is something that is generally viewed upon with unpleasant thoughts, am I right? So, you essentially told him to do something with the intent of lessening the overall strength, right? Well, he did what you told him to do, with a fair bit of success. He was still using a tad bit too much power, but he was starting to tone it down. It helped that he came to the realization that he was being a little bit to ambitious with the strength of the move, especially if it was going to cause him pain to use in the first place. He was almost there, just a little bit less power, and I would call it perfect. Headbutt Learning Curve_____(85%) Last but not least, as far as the move tutors were concerned, was your Velix. Trying to tutor Confusion is kind of… difficult. Especially when you have no real base to work from. Telling it to just try again was probably the least beneficial thing you could do, to be honest. She tried it again, but she just had no clue with how the technique was supposed to work. That little pebble wobbled for about a second longer this time, but that was it. If I were you, I would rethink what moves she knows already, and see if you can work from there. I mean, it uses psychic energy to move something around, right? Hint, hint? Confusion Learning Curve_____(10%) Finally, the last leg of this ref! I can see the light! … Right then. Moving on. Your Mareep rushed forward to execute your commands, using a pair of tackles on the Grimer. The Grimer, being slightly paralyzed, offered little resistance to the attacks. However, after she had finished with the last tackle, he managed to slip in a rather nasty Pound attack. So, this ref has reached its conclusion. What are you going to do now? Level 9 28/43 94%{Minorly paralyzed} VS. Level 9 39/43 92% |

![]() Kaz was watching the progress go through phase after phase. From the start, the attack was two separately. Now, even though they were still being performed as two, they were almost one. Which is where the boy wants them to be. With just some more work cut out for him, he definitely needed to think of the next move. Obviously, the boy thought about trying to teach him Thundershock. It would help a lot, but that is the thing. Going to hard route, doing this, might make that move easier. That is what Kaz was doing; trying to make the second move a bit easier. Spark consisted of the electricity coming out, which is like Thundershock. If Volt can cover himself in it, he may be able to propel it away from him--that being part of the tutor for thundershock. "Alright, Volt. You are getting there, but we still have work cut out for us. I need you to focus on maintaining that light you just produced. Yes, I seen it as well as you. Do the same exact thing you just did, but try holding it in for a little longer, only to release it in the tackle." Kaz was determined to get these move tutors out of the way, even if it met putting the Shady Man off for a while. ![]() Kaz looked over, where he had sent his Machop. The pokemon had caught his interest in the beginning of his adventure, but deep inside Kaz never really cared for tutoring him all the way like Nidoran. Maybe from just more expectations, but he didn't know. Move tutoring this move was something else; it sparked a new feeling. From afar, Kaz witnessed the Focus Punch. Wow, Machop almost had it. This gave Kaz a feeling of faith, and hope. Making Machop stronger could really improve the odds of having him last on the team. "Wow, Machop!" Kaz screamed over the commotion, "Try the same exact thing once more, you've got this!" The boy tried to be as encouraging as he could be, smiling one of the biggest smiles ever after seeing the progress of the move. ![]() Nido, unlike Machop, was slow in his progression to the new move. Kaz had never really did a big tutoring session. His last move tutor was Sludge Bomb, which took nearly forever. It had gone through stages, before finally ending somewhere in the middle of meeting the Shady Man and their battle. However, Sludge Bomb was a move that they'd use in the future, and so would Poison Jab. This is just not working as well as Kazuki would like it too. "Ok, new approach." The boy had to think. He knew the Poketch could tell him something. After searching for data on the species, he finally found a clue. Nidoran can let go of poison in their horn! "Nido, you can naturally secrete poison from your horn. Try it, coating the entire horn and then hitting the tree." That has to make some more progress. :sneel Sneel was nearly complete, as Machop and Volt were. He had to learn to lessen the power he put in, in order to lessen the damage he received. Something like the move Take Down, with recoil damage. Well, the Sneel had done some good on the process. Moving along, Kaz had to think of what was next. "Try the same thing. You need to lessen the power, so jerk back a little more on impact. Remember, we still want to make it strong, but you don't want to give yourself a concussion." :velix Velix was the least to progress, but Kaz didn't blame her. He blamed himself. He didn't know how every move was to be done, and he wasn't a genius. No, far from it. He was never the smartest. But something caught his thoughts. "I don't know if this is going to work. Velix, use Energy Ball. Don't cast it. No, use it and store some of the energy in you. Yes, focus on the energy it takes to build and then use that energy and try to cast only the energy out to move the rock. My guess, if it works, the pebble will go away from you." Mareep didn't have moves. No, just two, but no selection. Tackle and Growl. One, a stat decreasing move. The other, the only offense. Well, it might as well be time to use both. "Mareep, use Growl first. Then get in their with two tackles." |

Ah, more massive move tutoring sessions. Gotta love these. Well, let's not waste any time chit chatting. Time to see how you're Pokemon are doing! Starting with Volt, he kew exactly what to do. He charged up the electricity and then went in for the tackling aspect of Spark. He was almost there. He released the electricity at exactly the right moment, and held it for the perfect amount of time. Perfect, he's mastered it, eh? Well, it's not so easy. He still charges, and then tackles. To fully master the technique he'll have to learn to combine the two actions into one fluid motion. He's had enough practice at them individually that combining them should be no hard task. Spark - 90% Now we come to Machop. Doing the exact same thing again was a pretty simple instruction. Still, he decided you knew best, you are the human after all. He focused hard, blocking all out except for the tree and his fist. For him, those were the only two things that could possibly exist. He punched, very very hard. In fact, it was exactly as hard as before. The wood splintered more, but the tree still stood. He needed literally the smallest bit of power more than he was using. Maybe let him rest his arm for a minute before continuing. Focus Punch - 95% Third on the list is Nido. He really did not like being covered in poisonous goop, even though he was immune to its effects. It was still pretty gross, and he was glad you didn't ask him to do it again. He tried his absolute hardest to secrete poison from his horn, and found it harder to do than previously thought. He managed to get a little bit out, but it took him a while to cover his horn completely. He stabbed his horn into the tree, creating a mark where he impacted. He was doing well, he just needed to work on getting that poison out faster and in larger quantities. Poison Jab - 55% Fourth is Shrakk. The Sneel had almost mastered Headbutt. He shook his head a bit to get ready, and then he dashed. He thrust his head forward to hit the tree, but held back a little bit upon impact. He'd done it! No ringing in his ears, no throbbing forehead, nothing. He'd managed to balance power with restraint to create the perfect Headbutt. Looks like he's mastered the attack. Headbutt - 100% MASTERED Finally, we come to Velix. The poor little fox was having some trouble learning Confusion. Still, she did not give up. She used the energy from Energy Ball as a base. She tried to harness that energy for psychic usage, and found it a bit hard to convert the energy. Still, it was a good start. She was able to contain the energy within her, and she found that her focus was stronger than before, and the pebble did in fact move a few inches back. It was by no means a Psychic, or even a Confusion, but she was on her way. Confusion - 20% During all of this, Mareep was battling the Grimer. She gave off a Growl, lowering his attack strength. She dashed at him with a Tackle, but he countered with a Mud Slap, slapping up some mud. The damage wasn't too amazing, but it did lower her accuracy. Still, the Tackle hit, as did the second one. The Grimer was hindered by his paralysis, and his Pound was rather half assed. Looks like Mareep was having no trouble. Mareep Grimer

Kazuki was getting pretty close to finishing a couple of these tutors. This didn't mean that he would continue. He had signed up, via Poketch, for the Tournament of Aegis. Pursuing Laurie for the Shady Man would have to wait. But there should be no complaint, because the man will get his money back. Onto Voltorb. The attack was near perfect. The ball pokemon was still having some difficulty. Oh well, Kazuki might have the right instructions. He looked at Volt, studying him. Already, Kaz could think of two new moves he'd tutor this pokemon after this. But first, again, he needed to focus at the task on hand. "Volt. Rest for a minute. When ready, think of performing the two attacks. I want you to try your best to perform both at the same time." Kaz smiled. "Not one before the other. At the same time." Machop was a little ways away still, trying to focus on his Focus Punch. Tutoring Machop seemed sort of hard in the beginning, but maybe a new move will be in order before Aegis. "Machop, rest up for a few minutes. When ready, put your back into it. Swing your fist to that tree and let it have it after you let that focus go." Sneel was done. Yes, he mastered Headbutt. Although Kaz would love to tutor one or two more, he needed to get Nidoran's tutor done. Returning Sneel to the pokeball, Kaz whispered rest. He activated his Poketch and exchanged Sneel for the Farfetch'd. Kaz was just done, completed a trade, for an item he held on to called charcoal. It was no use him at the time, and this pokemon could be. Releasing it, Kaz smiled. "Farfetch'd, you have a very important task. I am Kazuki, your new trainer. I hear you know Poison Jab. Would you please use it on a tree, or some object around and show Nido, in person (?) how it is?" This had to work. Seeing it in real, and not on pictures, might help Nido. "Nido, you still need to work on secreting the poison faster, so after seeing the attack try doing that and doing motions that the bird is doing." Velix was making small progress, but still surprised Kazuki. Not being use to teaching moves like this, Kaz was at a super disadvantage. Though, he planned on getting Sneel back from the Poketch, who had mastered his move, Velix still needed to master hers. This was necessary for the Tournament. "Do the same thing. This time, however, focus the energy under the pebble. I want you to try and force it up." On to Mareep, who was battling the Grimer. Although it was for a measly level, it would be harder then spoken. In this moment, Kaz wished Mareep had a defense downer. But she only had Growl. His attacks weren't doing much, so not sweat. "Mareep, again, two tackles. Let him have it!" |

Man, I just keep coming back to you. What can I say, I love move tutors, and in fact I planned this entire ref out in my head as I was reading your last post. Anyway, let's get down to business! Volt was almost there, he could feel it! He rested up a bit, letting his energy return. Then, when he felt ready, he went at it. He started moving forward while charging up electricity. When he hit the tree, he released it all. One fluid motion. He'd done it! Spark was mastered! He jumped around and smiled, pleased with himself. Maybe now Thundershock would be simpler to teach. Still, I'd give him a rest before he tries something new. Spark - 100% MASTERED Second on our list is, as always, Machop. He let his arm rest, letting his strength return. When he felt ready, he closed his eyes once more. He focused hard. Very hard. By now it was second nature to him. He felt nothing but his fist and the tree before him. He leaned back a bit and...BAM! He punched hard! So hard, in fact, that the tree snapped right in half! Broken right at the spot he punched. That was...interesting. Quite a powerful punch. Looks like he's mastered Focus Punch! Like Volt, this would pave the way for many more easier tutors. And again, like Volt, I'd give Machop a rest before teaching anything else. He'd done good, he deserves a rest. Not only that but he looked like he was about to pass out. Such a powerful move takes a lot out of a pokemon, especially at such a low level. He won't be able to use it effectively until at least level 20, when his stamina is much greater. At least you have something to look forward to, right? Focus Punch - 100% MASTERED With two tutors done you'll be able to give more focus to these next two. Starting with Nido, let's see how your other two Pokemon are doing with their tutors. Farfetch'd looked at you and shrugged. One human, another human, it really made no difference who owned him. He took out his stick and coated it with poison before swiping it at the tree, leaving a noticeable mark. He explained to Nido how to tense up and release poison at the exact ratio he needed, and Nido tried for himself. He managed to get a good amount of poison out, but only after a short while of experimenting with tensing and releasing. Regardless, once he got it, he got it. He jabbed at the tree and managed to make a decent mark. He still had to learn to create the poison much faster, but he was well on his way. Poison Jab - 70% Finally, we come to Velix once more. She tried once more to form the energy of energy ball and convert it to psychic energy. She focused really hard, and managed to lift the pebble about an inch for about half a second. It was tough to hold that strong a focus. She was doing well for now, but she'd need to get stronger with it, and she'd also need to learn to create the psychic energy on its own and not use Energy Ball every time. Still, for her first few tries she was doing well. Confusion - 35% Meanwhile, Mareep was continuing her fight with Grimer. It was pretty one sided, but who knows, this Grimer may yet surprise you. He slapped up some mud into her eyes once more, again dealing only minor damage, but it was something. Mareep gave her first Tackle, but the second missed as a result of her lowered accuracy. Grimer slid behind her and gave a mean Pound, followed by a second Pound. Looks like he wasn't ready to give up yet. You may be in for more of a fight than you thought. Mareep Grimer

Kaz smiled as he spotted Volt and Machop successfully mastering their moves. He couldn't believe it. His pokemon had success in making their moves come together, and with Kaz's low self-esteem about teaching them, he felt better knowing they'd like him a little bit more for sticking with them. Hopefully. "Come here, Machop. You too, Volt." Calling them over, he mentioned resting, and returned them to their pokeballs. It would be a little while until he let them tutor more. He only had a short time before Aegis. Nidoran was up, and things looked good. He was getting ever so close to completing the tutor. Once then, Kaz would give him a break and would move on to more things. Right now, he had to help. "Farfetch'd, slow down the process. Nido, study it. Afterwards, mostly study on how to get that poison out. You can build it in your mouth, but now we need it to come out of your horn. Keep trying." Velix was a tough one. She managed to make good parts of progress each time. But Kaz was running out of ideas. This may very well be his last immediate idea. "Velix, you're getting there. Not quite to the point, but experiencing something. Charge less of the Energy Ball. Maybe converting a smaller amount of the energy into that psychic attribute will help prepare you for bigger amounts. Hit the rock with that energy if need be." The way the battle looked, Mareep might need a bit of help. But in a way, Kaz wanted to refuse that help. The experience she would gain would surely help her level. "Try another two tackles. Give it your best." |

Farfetch'd rolled his eyes and bit and slowed down his Poison Jab to a snail's pace. Nido saw every little detail, and studied it well. He tried his best to secrete poison from his horn, and managed to get a thin layer to pour out quickly. The thicker and stronger the poison, the harder it was for him to produce it, but he was getting places here. He'd managed to produce a good amount and jab the tree, leaving yet another black mark. One or two more attempts should do it! Poison Jab - 85% Velix was having some trouble with Confusion, but she was overcoming it pretty well. She tried what you said, and converted a small amount of Energy Ball energy into psychic energy. This let her get a good feel for psychic energy on its own, but she was still dependant on Energy Ball for now. She tried to send that energy out at the rock and managed to push it forward a few inches. She smiled and meowed a bit. She was getting off to a nice pace with this attack. She was about half way there, and would need much more training, but she was off to a great start. Confusion - 50% Mareep's battle was going nicely. Her eyes stung a bit form all the mud, but she was holding on. She dashed in for her first Tackle and hit nicely, but not without taking another Mud Slap to the face. Her second Tackle did hit, but just barely. Grimer slid away and gave another Pound to Mareep's back. Her Static jumped to him, intensifying the paralysis. Next round could end it, so long as Mareep manages to hit Grimer with two Tackles. Mareep Grimer
