A Tragedy's Journey

Popple ftw
The fresh ocean air is such a beautiful scent to let tease your nostrils. The slight crisp hint of salt makes it even more elegant to behold, feelings though you are on an island resort. Sorry, kiddo, but you're in Millenia Town!

Now, to business. All you had was three-hundred bucks, cash, and a Pokemon-- Maris the Feebas. If you plan on letting the Pokemon travel alongside you, outside of the Poké Ball, I suggest you walk alongside the beach. A flopping Feebas following around behind you might turn heads, and not in a good way.

But just traveling around aimlessly wasn't the only thing you could do! There are stores to visit, beaches to roam, and a Battle Camp to help Maris master the art of battling! Splash has no potential whatsoever, so perhaps the Battle Camp might offer TM's of the sorts to help change the Splash only moveset.

The possibilities are limitless to do here in Alternia, so get up and do something! There's hot babes that you could try to make a move on. Or guys, if that's more your style. I know nothing, so you could swing either way. The point is, get out there, have fun, and let nothing stand in your way.

{Short journey start is short T_T}

A Tragedy

Gritting his teeth, Landen watched as Rhyhorn charged Onix with all his might after tearing his gaze from Ginger. He was nervous about this battle. He really wanted to move on in the battle ranks and didn't quite want to lose just yet, especially to a brat like this. This was nerve racking.

Come on, I can do this.

Rhyhorn charged in like a pro and effortlessly threw its weight around at the Onix to deliver a striking blow. If Rhyhorn could keep it up like that then this battle would definitely go swell. Perhaps Landen was only doing this well in his first real battle considering the Pokémon were trained well enough. In any case, Landen stumbled a step o two from the shake, more out of surprise than him actually losing his balance. And before he could even react, a head splitting sound erupted form Onix, causing him and Rhyhorn a great deal of pain. As Rhyhorn instinctively backpedaled, he was hit in the face with a rock throw, that was just great. Sarcasm...

"Okay, Rhyhorn, good job! Try another tail whip and go in for a Horn Attack, then quickly put some distance between you and Onix and be prepared for anything it throws at you."

Landen was going to play it safe for now, but that screech was going to be a problem and he had to stick to a certain strategy. Hopefully he would start using what Landen knew Onix could use and possibly safe Landen a lot of time.

A grimace appeared across the kid's face that looked as pitiful as it was forced-- your enemy had been distracted by Ginger, and he was playing up his emotions to try to get her attention. She was not looking at him, transfixed by the battle that represented her paycheck, and he began to tear up ever so slightly that by the time she glanced over at the fool, she was able to watch the tears trickle into his crater-filled face. Giving a sweet "aw," she rushed over to his side for sympathy, and if you thought the Natu was sarcastically amused before, the bird was now rolling the eyes out of the back of its head. It was essentially okay with his trainer flirting with you, but the other guy? No way. Natu wouldn't stand to see her dating that kid, for some selfish reasons, as it had no interest in seeing his face again. In fact, he began to get so angry that he fired off an attack (Thunder Wave) towards your opponent in order to get him to shut up, but the bird's attack was instantly pulled towards your Rhyhorn and his Lightningrod ability. Natu batted Ginger in the back of the head with its wings before she even had time to turn around and scold her Pokemon for attacking a customer.

It goes without saying that your enemy was getting angry, and reckless, so by the time you were finished with your commands, he had turned into a thrashing, uncontrollable mess of a trainer.
"Onix! Kill his Rhyhorn! Harden up and Tackle!" Foam was flying out of his mouth, and Ginger ran away back towards you in fear of the other kid, now wrapped around your arm. But you had bigger concerns by now...

Rhyhorn flipped around and showed Onix his tiny tail, wagging it around to intimidate the Onix, apparently. This time, Onix would not be intimidated by the tail that couldn't do damage to him even if he let it; anyway, he was too busy using Harden to notice. With his defense back to normal, it could seem worse, but at least he didn't burst your eardrums again with another Screech. By the time both Pokemon had finished their opening moves, the battlefield was still unprepared for the collision that was coming, and they began charging at each other-- a 250 lb. dinosaur on one side, a 450 lb. snake on the other. They say that Rock isn't super effective against Rock, but the collision here was humongous, both Pokemon reeling from each other's attacks, with Onix coming out on top thanks to weight, speed, and defensive advantages.

Rhyhorn flew backwards, narrowly flying by your head and nearly decapitating Natu (if this was even possible), hitting the wall behind you-- he was nearly dead, but still had high enough defenses to fight another round or two. Onix slid sideways back towards his trainer, tying him up on accident and nearly knocking the kid out. There was a horn-shaped scar between Onix's eyes; you have to admit, Rhyhorn has good aim. That area represented a critical hit on Onix's body, as your Pokemon struck the only penetrable spot on the otherwise impenetrable Pokemon. Good work. You may not be winning, but you haven't completely lost momentum, and if you can come up with a strategy that doesn't let Onix play to his weight- and speed-related strengths, the battle can still be yours. It's not going to be as easy from here on out; Onix is a tough beast of a Pokemon to simply knock out.

A Tragedy

Landen wasn't paying much attention to Ginger, transfixed on the battle as much as she was. He didn't even notice his opponent trying to get Ginger's attention. He didn't look down until he was brought out of his gaze by long, bright pink hair running towards him. Looking quizzically at the scene of the boy crying and Ginger trying to console him. Why was he crying in the middle of battle? This must be the oddest first battle anyone has ever had. But there was still the battle at hand.

The boy was suddenly outraged and lashed out. Ginger, scared, ran to his side and Landen didn't blame her. He let her hook her arm in his and stay there. Natu was on her shoulder, as usual. The clash of the two rock Pokémon was brutal. The boy ordered Onix to "kill" Rhyhorn. It wasn't Landen's Pokémon but he certainly didn't want to see any Pokémon murder. Besides, wouldn't the boy and the Onix both get into trouble on the killing of another Pokémon.

What if he really kills Rhyhorn? Then again, Rhyhorn has the best chance of beating Onix. It would kill my other Pokémon for sure, especially if this kid is bent on beating me that badly.

"You alright? What's up with this kid, anyway? He's kind of... Psychotic?"

Landen was speaking to Ginger just as Rhyhorn was tossed and whizzed by, nearly taking Natu with it. Landen quickly spun around on heel. Rhyhorn was up and ready to attack again whilst Onix... had thwacked the kid a good one and nearly knocked him out cold. Landen noticed Rhyhorn had wounded the giant Onix with its horn, and Landen found a weak spot.

"Okay Rhyhorn, we can still win this. I want you to gain momentum and try to run in an undefined path if you can. Try to get Onix's head low and use Stomp as much as you can right on the spot where you hit Onix on the head last time."

Landen knew it was asking a lot Rhyhorn might have trouble turning, being so heavy and somewhat of a juggernaut. IN any case, this is what Landen thought of at the moment, and he could only wish for the best of results.

This whole thing is very interesting to me, and something that I never even realized we had here at Millenia Town. It sure would be helpful to come here and see how well you are at battling with Pokemon unknown to you before going up against the Gym Leader here. Your Pokemon would be better for you to use obviously, so if you can battle extremely well with Pokemon that aren't yours, then you should be set to go against the leader. Of course I'm making assumptions, and you do know what they say happens when you assume stuff. But before I get too far off topic, I think that maybe I should take a look and tell you what happens next in this battle of epic proportions, no?

Well by looking at things here, I would have to say that this round of the battle is nothing more than a beat down. Let's face it: your Rhyhorn is nothing more than a mobile boulder capable of crushing anything that gets in its way. And then you have an Onix which is just a string of boulders that can also crush just about anything. You put the two together and all you have is a couple of stubborn, Rock type Pokemon that can't do much more than slam into each other over and over again. Unless of course you have other attacks, which you may or may not. Clearly if you do you're not going to be utilizing them, huh?

Rhyhorn started to run, at first very slow, and the Onix followed him with his eyes, ready to strike whenever your opponent told him to. Finally, he was told to use a Harden and wait for your Pokemon to start its attack before tossing him aside and using a Rock Throw. When your Pokemon reached Onix finally, having zigzagged and such which only resulted in lowering his speed, Onix used his tail to flick him away. Luckily, Rhyhorn was still running, and simply started to turn as Onix began using Rock Throw. All of the rocks missed and Rhyhorn reached Onix again and lowered himself behind Onix so he swung his head around and lowered it towards the ground. Rhyhorn slammed his hooves down on the rock snake's head, right where he did the last time, and you heard a loud cracking noise as Rhyhorn lifted his feet and slammed them back down yet again just as you had asked.

Now this would be the end of all I have to say, but your opponent panicked and called out for one more attack, making this the round in which Onix uses three attacks. Another Rock Throw, and Onix flicked a rock with his tail up in the air... but it didn't get anywhere near Rhyhorn. Instead, it crashed down on the very spot that he had been Stomped upon, and that ended the battle for the Onix. Pissed, the trainer called back Onix and pulled out his last Pokemon and unleashed a Furret, which I'm thinking isn't going to last too long. What say you?

A Tragedy

While this whole situation was all nice and dandy, Landen was just about ready to recall Rhyhorn and give up the battle in case something happened to it. He didn't want the Pokémon to get too hurt during the battle and decided it would be best to withdraw if he had to. But as it turns out, he didn't need it.

As Landen might have guessed, Rhyhorn's circular motion wasn't working, the Pokémon couldn't cut very well and so was going much slower than Landen imagined it would have been. Ginger wasn't saying anything while she was still strapped to Landen's arm, all they all could do was watch. Onix tried to shoo Rhyhorn away, but the stampeding Pokémon wasn't having any of it. After a little bit of clashing and dodging, mostly the big Rock Throw dodge, Rhyhorn managed to stomp on Onix's head, bull's eye. Before Anything more could happen, Rhyhorn did it again, bringing a successful close to Landen's plan.

Onix wasn't done just quite yet, though. The flustered trainer was still throwing a tantrum and ordered Onix to do something else, only adding on to the confusion the poor Onix was suffering. In the end, Onix was brought down by it's own attack.

"Great job Rhyhorn! You should take a rest."

While his opponent recalled his Onix and sent out another Pokémon, Landen decided he would do the same and keep this up by sending out his last Pokémon to be shown. He figured it would be an okay match-up against the Furret. Rhyhorn deserved the rest and maybe Landen could finish this battle without any of his Pokémon fainting. He was getting the hang of strategic battling.

"Electrike!

Landen's poketech was lighting up and pulling on info for Electrike.

"Use Thunder Wave on Furret then power yourself up with a Howl."

Landen couldn't help but smile. The most climatic part of the battle was probably over, but he still had one last Pokémon to beat. A confident Landen sent the last Pokémon on his team out, and at least he had Farfetch'd and Rhyhorn to back him up if it was needed.

So you're going to give Rhyhorn a rest and send Electrike out against the ferret Pokemon, even though you and I both know that Rhyhorn would have easily been able to trample that rat. Okay, so not a rat, but it's almost like a rat except a bit bigger, but otherwise it smells and has sharp teeth, and does just about all the same things that a rat does. Personally I would much rather have a chinchilla, but to each their own, and to this battle I shall go. So an Electric type up against a Normal type isn't bad, but it doesn't give you an advantage really either. Of course your first move would give you an advantage if it worked correctly, so let's see if it does and see what happens from there.

As static electricity ran around Electrike's body, the trainer standing before you commanded that Furret use a Quick Attack followed up by a Fury Swipes, and the rodent (better?) Pokemon went at it. Electrike released the electricity in hopes of hitting Furret with it before it was too late, but Furret was already way past them by the time they got to where Electrike sent them to. Furret's soft body smashed into Electrike's, and though it didn't cause much damage, it did get your Electrike to use Howl to help power himself up. But that wasn't going to be any good this round since you're not really attacking, which probably wasn't too smart since now Furret had pretty much an open shot at getting Electrike. Claws raked across the little dog's body multiple times until he was able to push away the lengthy Pokemon.

You might want to come up with a better strategy than that, because it didn't help you. In reality it actually set you back somewhat, and now you had to think of something quick before things went even worse. Don't worry, you could hear the other trainer shouting out commands again, to use a Defense Curl followed up by another Fury Swipes. Perhaps you can take that information to your advantage?

A Tragedy

Landen was simply trying to gain an early advantage by setting himself up for the future rounds. But apparently it didn't work. Electrike's simple thunder wave set it up for disaster, but at least the howl still worked. Now Landen was falling behind, and he really wanted to win this with his 3 Pokémon left. It was time to step it up. Instantly Landen was looking down and trying to figure out a good combination to bring him back into the battle.

"Electrike. Try a leer as soon as Furret comes back at you with a fury swipes. After that hit it with a tackle. The try another Howl for a 3 move combo."

Yeah, Landen bad. If all went well then Furret would be caught completely off guard form leer and, in addition to lowering Furret's defense, would throw Furret off enough for Electrike to tackle it and hopefully ruin the fury swipes. That's what happened in Landen's head, anyway. But of course things never went according to plan.

Convincing himself that he could do this and that letting Rhyhorn take a rest was a good decision, this last round made Landen think that Maybe Electrike wasn't he best choice, knowing full well that Rhyhorn could have easily best Furret. The rodent Pokémon wouldn't stand a chance against the unstoppable rock Pokémon charging right for it. But for every advantage, Landen found himself looking at a disadvantage. He had to fight fire with fire, and getting an insight on his opponent's next move had definitely got Landen thinking. And now the strategy was put into play.

And to think that I was giving you a heads up as to what your opponent was going to do next just so I could give you a slight advantage in the battle. But again, you didn't do quite as I had expected you to, and instead of playing a dodge attacking strategy, you decided to go straight into Furret's attack. I know that people have different ways of approaching things, but I didn't think that suicide was a good way of attacking. Maybe I'm just different and slightly weird by thinking that you would do something obvious like dodging. Perhaps you thought that if you tried dodging, Furret would be expecting that and would actually end up getting you anyways. Well I can sit here and wonder what it was you were thinking all day if I want to, but it won't get either one of us anywhere we want to be.

Electrike used a Leer, which did catch the rodent Pokemon off guard and set his Defense down a bit, while also slightly halting the attack. Just as Furret stopped the Defense Curl, Electrike began to start running in for the Tackle attack. Of course Furret looked like he would be digging right in just as Electrike hit him, but it appears that you may have been right about that dodge theory, if you were thinking that that is. Expecting the little dog to leap over him, Furret was ready to strike up above, only to be put off by the head on Tackle that came instead. Electrike smashed into the soft body of Furret, who shrieked pretty loudly, getting some heavy damage from the increased Attack and lowered Defense combo.

Leaping away from his opponent, Electrike let out another Howl that made the other guy standing across from you wince slightly. Apparently he wasn't liking how this was going anymore, and he looked at you as if he wanted to go right over there and rip your head off. Clearly someone wasn't expecting things to go south for them so quickly after getting in a good round. Perhaps you're closer to a win than you thought? Though of course you still have a ways to go.
