Ok, so as some of you are aware, I'll be having a Butterfree and a Beautifly pretty soon, but I have a question.

Caterpie learns Bug Bite at level 15. Now, I caught LeBug as a Metapod, so it can't learn it naturally through leveling up anymore. However, Surely a Butterfree is capable of "Biting" things though, with its newly aquired mandibles and everything, so would it be ok to assume that I can teach it Bug Bite? Or am I just out of luck ._.

The same thing applies with Iseta too (my Wurmple) but I'm a little shaky on that one, because as Beautifly, she'll have a proboscis instead of mandibles like Butterfree.

You can totally teach moves that you would a have learned if you didn't evolve. Butterfree is certainly capable of learning bug bite. Go right ahead.

Zy are you sure? You can't do that with Stone evolution Pokemon. I think that once you lose the chance thats it. It isn't on the list for Butterfree or Beautifly so I don't think they can learn the moves without being taught in a previous form. Its a small price to pay for having them spawned at later forms.

Same goes with Metapod's and Silcoon's Iron Defense.

How does I know? Because Roku couldn't teach her Raichu any of its Pikachu moves after she evolved it. So ya I don't think it works that way.

Well if you think about it. Bug bite doesn't really have a previous move. (Bite, but that's about it) Considering that butterfree is a bug, I'm pretty sure it can bug bite. I suppose an admin could clear it up

I know that in-game, you can level a Pokemon beyond the level it would have learned a move and then evolve it. Then, if you take it to the Move-Relearner, he will teach the Pokemon those moves anyways. So it stands to reason that you can play the role of the move relearner guy and do that.

But in games you HAVE to get the previous form to that level for the move. Which is different. The move relearner only teaches what was already taught. Like I said, Roku was told she couldn't teach her Raichu any of the moves it would have learned as a Pikachu when she evolved it without teaching it the moves first.

You CAN teach Bug Bite, however seeing as it was a move that a prior form learned but the current form, I think it'd be harder to learn and possibly (I'll speak with the other admin about this) take 150% to learn because it's from a prior evolutionary stage.

Hard as I try I know I can't quit :3
As the new owner of aforementioned Raichu, does this mean that the same 150% curve hike now also applies to me?

Good question. The Relearner actually teaches a move regardless of whether or not your Pokemon knew it. You just had to have reached that point to learn it. If you decided not to teach it, you can still go back and teach it with the Relearner. Once a Pokemon evolves however, I'm not so sure you can do that... someone should probably check on one of their games. Get a Caterpie, evolve it to Butterfree, get it past Level 15 and see if you can "reteach" it Bug Bite. The 150% curve thing is something I'm against, just because it's still considered a Level Up move, not an Egg Move. If it goes to say "yeah, but you need to teach it before it can use it, it won't use it by leveling up" then how come we don't have the same "curve" for Tutored Moves? TM moves?

No you couldn't. The relearner only teaches what is learned. I already answered your Question DS. Thats only in the games though, thats why I didn't think it would be allowed here either, especially when Roku told me she couldn't before as well. The Move relearner can only teach moves your Pokemon have learned or attempted to learn by level up. If you evolved them before they learned the attacks the relearner won't/can't teach the previous move.

*Tried with Magikarp/Gyarados to get Flail and a stone evo, Ludicolo I think to get some of lombre's moves after evolving it eraly by accedent.*

Okay thank you Snow. I just wanted clarification on that, that's all.

So my opinion is that no, you shouldn't be able to teach something like Bug Bite to a Butterfree that evolved before the Caterpie learned it. It's only fair.
