“Develop your arsenal,” Mr. Spotlight told Barzel as he was leaving home and went off to Kijutsu. It was a funny choice of words, arsenal. It categorized Pokemon as weapons, took the living essence out of them and made them things. It bothered Barzel why Mr. Spotlight, would refer to Pokemon like so, why would his role model treat his underlings as objects? Still, never one to object, Barzel accepted his adoptive father’s motto and went to take part in a personal arms race. Now it finally dawned on Barzel why Mr. Spotlight referred to them as an arsenal. A warrior can use a weapon and replace it once it gets worn. A soldier doesn’t care much if his artillery is damaged; it is inanimate and serves only one purpose. Once that level of identification between man and object is breached, then battles and fights evolve to a higher level of intensity. If a Pokemon is a friend, or a teammate, or a comrade, then it’s tough justifying how they are sent into battle after battle, following the whims of the trainer. A true battler would have to have an iron heart to give perfect commands, and this was something that Barzel wasn’t sure if he was willing to obtain. Bittersweet is the closest word to describe what Barzel felt like, but in reality it was a mix of complete agony over Magen and a surge of happiness for this victory. He came in knowing that this would be a tough battle, but this tough? Was it really worth it, was this fight, one that could’ve been easily avoided, worth the pain and struggles faced by his Pokemon? Although deep down Barzel knew that it was for strength, and for the overall good, or some shit like that, he felt like utter trash. He was the one who subjugated his team to this battle and ultimately he was responsible for their well being. It was with a heavy heart that he called back Magen, saying, “You did well. Next time, I’ll live up to your ability.” Turning to the rest of his team, Barzel gave a weak smile, once again, happy that they won, but angry at himself for seeing his teammates hurt. After thinking about it for a moment more, he decided to store the incident in the back of his mind. Too much reflection would turn him depressed. If anything, this just served as a good reality check for Barzel, taking away his little sphere of invincibility and introducing him to the real world. It dawned on him, life without challenges is pointless. His challenge would be to make up the best plan possible for the next battle, on his quest to find strength, or honor or obtain something or another- he wasn’t too sure himself what he was supposed to do with his journey. Anywho, two new members to the team! They fought valiantly, and also deserved praise for putting up such a struggle. “Welcome aboard the Spotlight Express” he muttered to the newly occupied Pokeballs. For a moment, he had forgotten about Hannah, and forgot his promise to her. But she ‘kindly’ reminded him with her girlish demand for the male Pikachu. This struck quite a cord with Barzel, it was wrong on so many levels for her to ask anything of him, right here, right now! But, like sickeningly typical, Barzel looked for a better response, a kinder way of dealing with the situation, “Let’s talk about it after everyone is healed. I think everyone deserves a break from battling, and we could all cool our heads.” Deep down, Barzel felt guilty about promising her a Pokemon, but he wasn’t about to get taken complete advantage of… After healing the Pokemon at the Pokemon center thinking, I’m going to be coming back here a lot, aren’t I? Barzel finally told Hannah the situation.“Hannah, you were there, watching me battle the two Pikachu, and how valiantly they put up a fight, right?” He began to walk outside, up and down the lonely Kijutsu streets with naught but Hannah at his side, “I don’t have the heart to split them up. I know it’s not the same, but what about Voltorb? It’s a very useful Pokemon, you saw how it won the battle for me last round, what would you say to taking the guy for yourself, as my present? Unless you remember where that old boyfriend of yours is, so we can go and take back your Pokemon…” Barzel was pretty sure that Hannah had something up her sleeve this whole time, it annoyed him that he felt like he was being used, but hey, a man’s gotta keep his word, right? Plus, this is good for the karma meter. |

When the stars stop shining, dreams will shatter before your eyes. Know that you're not alone!

Hannah shook her head. With a small sigh, she looked back up at you, a little teary. She probably didn’t really want the Pokémon, she just wanted her Pokémon back. It isn’t as easy as just replacing the Pokémon and calling it a day. These Pokémon that were stolen were special to her. “I just want my Pokémon back…” A tear went down her pale face, and she quickly turned around, not letting you see her cry. It was a shame to let such a cutie cry, but you were going to do all you could to help her, right? “I don’t know where he lives, but I know he hangs out in the slums of Kijutsu. I bet we can find him there…” she sniffled. Before she turned her eye, something caught her eye. On the other side of the Pokécenter was a ragdoll in the corner, all by itself. She walked over slowly, wondering what it was. From the distance you could tell it was an old blackened doll, but not much else. She picked up the doll, and held it up to her eye. “Hello there little one. Are you all alone too?” she asked the doll, smiling a little. After a long examination, she decided that she would keep the doll, and she ran back to you. She held it close to her chest, giving the doll warmth. Smiling, she held it up for you to see. It was a small doll, a little under a foot. The entire thing was made out of rag-like material stained gray and black from dirt and dust buildup. It had two black patches for eyes, and small sewn on arms, but no other features. She looked at it herself again, happy with the find. “You’re going to be my new friend!” she stated, placing it back against her chest, its eyes looking out. “I’m going to name him Geno. He’s going to be my new best friend.” She said with glee. She closed her eyes, giggling a bit. Probably the happiest she has been in awhile, you couldn’t help but laugh too. Whatever works, right? You opened your eyes, Hannah was still giggling a bit. You looked at the doll again, and noticed the eyes were starting to glow a dark crimson, but as soon as you blinked, it stopped. Well. He hangs out in the slums huh? You better get going, but it will probably be dangerous. Best see if you can pick up some supplies. Request me. These are my plans. Falcon didn't have anything planned quite yet. But don't worry. You're in for a ride. |
