[ journey start ] As instructed by your "father," you arrived in Kijutsu City exactly on time. You were equipped with a Squirtle and ... well, not much else. It seemed Mr. Spotlight hadn't spared you much money, and only a few pokeballs. I guess he expected you to acquire the rest of the materials you needed on your own. Well, Kijutsu was a big city, and opportunities were rampant ... Especially if you were a criminal. Crime was the main downside of this bustling city. All the more reason to guard your belongings (and your friend Magen) with even more vigilance than usual. As you walked down the sidewalk, the other passersby ignored you completely. They were nervous that any unnecessary contact with strangers would lead to a mugging, apparently, and your appearance intimidated many of the citizens. Interestingly, the only people who would give you any attention at all were the neighborhood thugs. They drove past in their beater cars, honking their horns obnoxiously and shouting random insults before slamming on the gas pedal. With a screech of their tires, they were around the corner and out of sight. Oh well, not like you really wanted to get into a fight in the middle of Kijutsu, right? As you passed a back alley, a rather bizarre-looking girl hopped out into your path to get your attention. Her hair was choppy, dyed blue and purple in streaks. Her clothes were worn and didn't match at all - a thin sweatshirt coupled with uber short-shorts that showed off her ass, black socks that reached her mid-thighs, and a pair of beaten tennis shoes. She was most certainly an eclectic child. And I use the term "child" rather loosely, as she appeared to be nearing the age of consent. (Reference Picture) "Hi!" she greeted you cheerfully, smiling. "Say, are you busy? I could really use your help with something." Her eyes gazed into yours, and you got a good look at their odd, crimson color. Then she glanced away and gestured into the alley. This was possibly a bad idea ... Then again, she doesn't look that dangerous, right? Maybe there was something in it for you if you helped her. |

Barzel inhaled the city air- fumes of cars, garbage and the odors of the mass nauseated him. “City life is noisy and rushed,” he mused quietly, “what moron would want to live in a depressing place like this?” The smoke pipes loomed overhead, wistfully blowing smoke out, almost like a cloud creator. He absorbed the scattering looks of fear from the continuously parting crowd. Truthfully, Barzel enjoyed this special treatment. He didn’t want to be classified as just another one of the sheep. “These people have nothing, their only drive is money and lust,” Barzel said, watching another pair of frightened eyes dart away from him. “No dreams, no honor, no nothing.” Mr. Spotlight’s gruff voice came into mind, “Explore Kijutsuv and stay there. I’ll contact you in a short while. Do not leave the city, and build yourself an arsenal." His words were always clear, and Barzel had no intention of disobeying. The random assortment of thugs that drove by were nothing more than worms; he ignored their taunts. One of Mr. Spotlight’s long-time lessons, “stay low until you know what’s going on.” Getting into a fight in the middle of a street wouldn’t exactly be staying low. While deep in thought, he was disputed by a girl emerging from a side alley. Barzel gave her the one over, noticing her uncovered legs, toxic-colored hair and a potluck outfit. He judged her an 8, “"Hi!" she said.”Say, are you busy? I could really use your help with something." Barzel’s invisible defenses shot up, immediately suspicious of this overly friendly behavior. In his experience, overly friendly people were either trying to take advantage of you, or there to be taken advantage of. He nodded though, giving her a slight smile and followed her eyes in the alley. It would be useful to have someone from this city as an associate; besides, he wasn’t really scared of dark alleys. The girls piercing red eyes stared into yours as she tried to read through you and see what exactly you were thinking. She already knew what her plan for you was, but what exactly was you planning on doing with her? Face it, this was Kijutsu. No one does anything for anybody unless there is a reward involved. Maybe you was different however? The girl could only wonder, besides she only knew as much about you as you knew about her. As you nodded your head, the girl reached out and cuffed her hand around the top of your arm. "This way," She said looking around. It seemed as though she was trying to hide from someone. The girl ducked down and tip-toed toward the alley in a very suspicious and sneaky manner. You looked around and noticed that there was absolutely no one around you guys. There is really something wrong with this girl and maybe this is one of the girls that you should have tried to stay away from, despite the lack of clothes on her lower half, and amazing body she possessed. The two of you reached the alley and the strange girl looked around once more. She turned back to you and stared deep into your eyes and began to giggle."Thanks for agreeing to help me," she said in an innocent voice. She reached up and pulled out her hair-tie from her hair and let her beautiful light hair fall against her back. She flipped it back and forth a few times and then gazed back at you. "There that’s better," The girl said as she began to feel across your face. Just then the girl dropped her hand form your face and turned around and paced back a few steps. "Ok so anyway," The girl said with her normal voice. Wow are you serious? This girl really has some issues, but it might be worth keeping her around if you know what I mean. But enough of that, lets get back to the real meaning of your journey. The girl’s eyes seemed to get bigger as she looked back at you. "You see. This guy, well, he's kinda, uhm, my ex. He stole my pokemon and I was wondering if you could help me get it back," The girl said blinking her eyes at you. She took a few more steps toward you and rubbed her hands down your arms. "You see. I need a big strong man. And you seem perfect for the job," The girl said in her sexy innocent voice once again. Edited by Frost, Jun 28 2009, 10:40 AM.

Mr. Spotlight’s voice rang in his head, “Remember Barzel, no good deed goes unpunished.” And how true a statement that was, every action had its consequences. It’s impossible to predict the after effects of even a simple gesture, everything was so complex and interwoven. The girl cupped his arm, transferring the slightest hint of pressure and warmth to his body. If he was a normal boy, with no mission, this might’ve been the beginning to a romance. But Barzel was different, he had purpose. Feminine wiles would only go so far.… That isn’t to say he didn’t enjoy her flirtation. Constantly touching, pouting and gazing at him. It’s like this girl is trying to game me. So here was the situation. She either a) genially needs help and has to resort to asking a stranger or b) is trying to coax him into dropping his guard and walk into a trap of some sort. Normally, he would have assumed it was the latter, but what could the girl want from him? It’s not like I showed anything off, what purpose would she have to try and grab me? He reverted back to the first opinion, immediately saddened by these circumstances; this is why he hated people. Everything about this situation is pathetic, from the loser boyfriend to her attempt to seduce me to help her. It was depressing that she had stooped to using her body and sexuality to try and get some help, this is how far people had fallen. But Barzel steeled himself, and answered, “Sure, I’ll help.” Of course, this wouldn’t be a completely selfless act; he expected to get something out of this arrangement. He wasn’t about to start lecturing someone he has just met, but he didn’t want to promote her degrading actions, “On two conditions” he said, “tell me your name, and get some reliable friends from now on. I understand not going to the cops for this, but it’s crazy to ask random strangers for help,” showing a thin smile to soften the statement. "Let's go and get your Pokémon back, and we'll teach your ex some popper manners," he said. Now he was ready to go, clean up the trash of this city. My mission is to grow strong and explore, might as well see the shittiest parts of town while I’m at it. Edited by Graffiti, Jun 28 2009, 01:40 PM.

The girl squeeled gleefully, doing a strange sort of pirouette off you and clapping her hands like some half-wit anime character. "Ooooh! You're so sweet!" She cooed, and endlessly serene look on her face as her hands folded together, framing her lower torso just perfectly to accent it as she leaned forwards some. "It's Hannah." She hummed. "Hannah Derile." Derile!? What an odd last name... Oh well. She made no guarantee on the other half of the agreement before she cupped your elbow and led you down the alleys a bit. It wasn't long before... Shittiest-part-of-town indeed. The buildings in the area were beginning to look dilapidated. Factories were either falling apart or had recently been abandoned. Just about every non-residential building was covered in crawling vines and broken windows. Several of the cars in the area were in similar, non-functional shapes. The heads of scrawny pokemon and unkempt people alike poked out of junk heaps, dark alleys, and dilapidated homes crawling with vines and vermin. Some of these dark alleys would occasionally yeild dark, unforgiving sounds... The yowl of a Meowth, the smoggy cough of a Grimer mindlessly attacking something moving in it's territory... But what came to intrigue you... Actually came from behind, bowling under you to knock you over, despite your obvious size. A large voltorb rolled between your legs with enough momentum to drag them out from under you, then turned around with an angry glare. The girl, now laying on top of you almost, didn't seem to phase the creature at all. Voltorb were known for their tempers, and whatever had set this one off was irrelevant. It was your problem, Now. The voltorb in question didn't appear to want it any other way, either. Opponent Lvl 7 39/39 98%Have at you! ... Or something. |

“Some people are beyond help”, Mr. Spotlight’s voice rang. It was odd, he had advice for almost every situation. Clearly this Hannah Derile fell into that category. Oh well, Barzel had already accepted the mission, can’t go back on it now. “Great, I’m Barzel Spotlight,” (he can’t really comment on weird names…) he said, feigning a friendly tone. “We got business to take care of.” Still, it irked him just how big of a ditz she was. What if, she is only pretending to be a ditz!? Bah, what ifs are no fun. He put those thoughts out of his mind and instead decided to take in the scenery. The factories were ripped apart and the buildings decayed. Looks like a tornado hit… damn I hate this place. The crunch of glass and litter beneath their feet was common as they traipsed through the cesspool. The stench of failure was indeed depressing. In an out, in and out, Barzel repeated to himself, relying on his mantra. Sometimes he thought it would be better to just rip these parts of town out, eradicate them completely. He saw the alley rats, surviving off who knows what, staring at him. They were condemning him, screaming, you don’t belong. Everything about this place brought out the worst in Barzel. Everything. Why was I sent here? He began to wonder. He was taught never to question Mr. Spotlight, in the end Mr. Spotlight was right anyway. But still, this area was void of hope, why would Barzel come here… In the midst of all this thinking, he felt that there-is-someone-stalking-me-feeling, but before he could investigate, he found his feet swept up underneath him and fell, back first, on the concrete. He wrapped his arms around Hannah, protecting her from the fall, and wound up with her laying on top of him in a very seductive position. Down boy. Once he spotted the object of this commotion, he knew that there was going to be some ass kicked tonight. It wasn’t pain that made Barzel angry, and it wasn’t so much the annoyance. It was just the culmination of everything. Of course, he wasn’t about to let some half-wit, over-sized sphere get the better of him. Oh no, if Voltorb wanted a fight, it was going to get one. I really hate this place. But it dawned on him If I fight now, there’s no way I’ll come out unscathed. He wasn’t a fool, he knew Magen couldn’t win cleanly, and I’ll be left this shit-hole area, weakened for whatever else lurks in these alleys. And I still have to deal with that boyfriend problem… He was almost going to let it go and play it smart, but Voltorb JUST HAD TO SAY IT, it just F****** had to say it in the most cocky and arrogant tone ever, “Voltorb.” That’s it. Now it’s personal. “I’m going to rip you a new one,” Barzel said. Exactly what that new one was, no one was quite sure. But it must’ve sounded threatening at least, and it sure did release some of the tension building inside. “Look”, he said to Hannah, “we have to deal with this moron before we can get through. Just hold tight.” He summoned Magen from the Pokeball. The blue and orange turtle Pokémon appeared after the usual light show,“Squirt!” she said, leering (not the move) at the Voltorb. Apparently, the transfer of emotion between trainer and Pokémon was instantaneous, because Magen was also looking vicious. How dare this arrogant prick pick a fight! “Magen,” Barzel said calming down considerably, “we’re at a disadvantage. Electric vs. Water, it doesn’t take a genius to figure that one out. But we’re not going to let this guy just walk, oh no.” “Squirt!” Magen answered, getting further and further inspired to “We can’t go about this normally, your skin is very likely to conduct that electricity, and Voltorb is always brimming with electric energy. A direct attack, although satisfying, could prove stupid,” he said, emphasizing the stupid part. “Instead, we have to strike him through a indirect means, or at least through some type of protection. " He thought for a moment, trying to apply whatever common sense he had up there in storage, and came up with a half-way decent solution, " Use your shell to attack and defense. It should be enough protection from Voltorb's static and give you a power boost.” “I need you to Focus and gather up speed, then go in for a tackle. Instead of leaping at it with your head through, leap back first and strike it with the back of your shell. Don't let Voltorb slip around you when you leap, track it’s movement and then attack. Go!” Edited by Graffiti, Jun 29 2009, 08:56 PM.

The girl was not too pleased with the voltorb’s behavior. “You’re so mean! Why did you trip him!” she shouted at the orb, who obviously didn’t give. Ugh. I guess a battle with this thing was inevitable, as to your own protection. Though he couldn’t do much to you, he still tripped you, and that’s wrong…right? Either way. You had a girl to take care off, and well, the voltorb was in the way. Squirtle nodded, understanding your orders. Rushing up toward the Voltorb, whom let out another “Voooollllttorb….” Just to irritate you, he watched his movements carefully. Voltorb moved around, angry that you actually had the guts to try and attack him. He went backwards a distance, then back forwards rolling towards Magan at an increasing speed. Tackle on tackle collision was something that wasn’t going to end well, but it had to be done. The distance between Voltorb and Magan decreased as they both built speed. Taking a move used from SSBB, Squirtle jumped into the air to tackle, turning around and using it to increase the damage. Unfortunately for the orb, the shell and power of the attack was just enough to not be effective against his tackle, and was hit back towards his trainer at a high pinball like speed. Magan smiled and wondered back to you, though his shell was hurting a tinnnny bit from the impact. “Oh, screw you!” the little girl said with discontent, obviously towards the voltorb. Woah. That was a little out of character, don’t you think. The Voltorb rolled for a bit, until it finally stopped and went back to it's battle position. “It’s on now!” she shouted, clinging onto you for dear life. “People change like the weather,” Mr. Spotlight rang once again in Barzel’s head. Clearly this Hannah girl had some spunk in her. She seemed to share Barzel's view on the matter at least, although she was a bit clingy. Barzel did a double take when he heard what came out of Hannah's mouth. He was going to comment on it, but no matter, there is a battle to attend to! “Great job Magen,” Barzel said, calming down after witnessing his guardian executing his strategy perfectly. He wasn't the type of trainer that would act all worried over a little bit of damage, and Magen wasn't the type of Pokémon that appreciates baby talk. Phrases like, 'are you okay there?' or 'come on, I know you can do it' wind up irritating the turtle Pokémon more than helping. I would love to do the same move again and again, but I have a feeling that Voltorb would end up figuring it out. Besides, Magen doesn’t necessarily have the power to finish this up quickly. This collision went in our favor, but I don’t want to chance it for the next one… Barzel studied the situation, racking his brains for anything to get an advantage, that Voltorb has a hard shell, even if its not a steel type it can resist basic attacks. And Magen still can’t get too close. Stupid Voltorb, why did it have to go and bother me now? The faster it spins, the more dangerous it gets... but that also means…! “Magen. I got a plan, I need you to focus up on your speed again and then taunt the Voltorb into attacking you. While it’s chasing you, run towards one of the alley walls, keeping notice of the punk behind you,” Barzel said, revealing the hint of a smile. “When Voltorb spins, it temporary losses it’s line of sight. That’s when you dodge the attack by rolling to the side and having the Voltorb slam into the wall. [Epic teenage mutant ninja turtle wall flip maneuver <.<] Then, get behind it, and sandwich it to the wall with another backward tackle attack!” When only having a few attacks at his disposal, strategy can go a long way, With the double speed boost, Voltorb won’t know what hit it. "-Tle!" Magen answered back, approving of Barzel's plan. That Voltorb was going a one way flight to a world of pain (baggage not included). [Note: 1 speed boost from my previous focus and this one.] Edited by Graffiti, Jul 5 2009, 11:46 AM.

Wow, what a cute little girly, and you were fighting that nasty little Voltorb, while the girly was just watching. She decided she better take a seat, but there was nowhere to sit around you guys, as it was just broken down buildings! What a pigsty this city was! Regardless, she was a bit interested in your battle skills. She was angry at the Voltorb, and was hoping that you would sock it a good hit straight where it hurts! You seemed determined to do this as well, and so did Magen. The young Squirtle quickly focused, as she felt power start flowing into her little legs. To her, her legs strengthened temporarily, feeling as light as a feather. She would be able to make a blinding dash easily, and it would be harder for the Voltorb to catch up. Of course, the Voltorb was a bit more experienced, and that was always something to watch, but Magen had such a wit, and a good way at taunting the Voltorb. "Squirt Squirtle, Squirt Squirtle tle Squirt tle!" Magen shouted at the Voltorb. You may not understand it, but it was something mean that irritated Voltorb, and quickly, the annoyed Voltorb spun around at Squirtle again! Magen turned, running towards the wall, and then, utilizing her speed, went to the side, in an attempt to avoid Voltorb! The Voltorb itself was a speedy Pokemon, and combined with the fact that it was a bit more experienced than Magen got it to ram into the turtle Pokemon, or at least, Magen's tail, in a Tackle. It hit the wall, and sustained a bit of damage though, and was cringing in pain, so it accidentally rolled back as it ran straight into the wall, with it's eyes closed. This gave Magen the perfect time to score an attack, and so, Magen got behind Voltorb, and sandwiched the Voltorb between himself and the wall in a Tackle attack, which caused the Voltorb to grow irritated. For some odd reason, the Voltorb though that kindling electricity around it was going to get Magen away (which it could, if the right attack was used,) and so to scare Magen back for a moment, it used Charge. Magen wasn't harmed by it, but the speed that the electricity kindled around Voltorb from the charge made Squirtle back up a little, and as soon as Squirtle tried to get back near the Voltorb, it quickly rolled away. The two were facing each other again, and visibly, the Voltorb had a bruise where it had got knocked against the wall, and it didn't look too happy about that. What were you going to do? “Everything has its place, every act requires its own focus”- another one of Mr. Spotlight’s sayings. Then again, Barzel was so into the battle that nothing else really matter at this point. He was taking the advice without even knowing it. Little Ms. Derile, standing there, all cute and spunky, really didn’t change the circumstances at all. Crowd or no crowd, if there is a battle to be fought, that where his attention is. Again, Magen proved obedient. Barzel was blessed with such a courageous fighter; she took to his strategies like an apple takes to an orchard (I’m not even sure that made sense, but I said it anyway). He watched her move with grace, especially for a species not usually known for their speed. Everything was done eloquently: provoking Voltob, dodging its attack, and sandwiching it to the wall. Of course, there was a slight slip up, when Magen had her tail ran over, but neither Magen nor Barzel flinched at such a trivial matter. She was dominating. A good trainer should act as a tool for his Pokémon just as much as they act as a tool for him, it’s a symbiosis of sorts. He provides them with strategy, and experience while they provide him with their strength and ability. Magen is acting on my every command, this battle is about me proving my strength, he thought to himself, trying to figure out a strategy which would give him a wider lead. Every time Magen launched herself at that orb, she suffered a bit from the recoil of its shell. I didn’t think that the damage would be noticeable, but I’d better stem it before this gets out of control. Barzel wasn’t worried about winning the battle; he wanted to win it in the best possible manner. If his guardian got hurt more than what was necessary, what does that say about him as a trainer? Interrupting the stair down between the two creatures Barzel shouted, “Magen, it’s time to go full throttle. That Voltorb is a moron for messing with you, it thinks its defensive shell will protect it? Not for long. Now I need you to listen.” Barzel issued his commands to his turtle companion, “this round is about doing damage. Focus up on your strength, since your speed is already improved from last round, you’ll be able dash up to it pretty quick and beat it down.” Barzel remembered the charge of the Voltorb, and Magen’s hesitation in confronting that electricity. This was to be expected, she was a water type after all. But hesitation can prove to be a big mistake, “Don’t worry about that charge. Voltorb doesn’t have any attacks which utilize the electrical energy yet. But just to be safe, we’re going to knock all of that excess energy right out of it!” Barzel was really getting excited. Battles are what made being a trainer fun: it was a ballet of strategy and strength, what more you ask for? “After your Focus, dash and stare-down the Voltorb and unsettle it, so you have ample time to attack it with another backwards tackle. That stare-down should weaken its defenses, so you can aim for that bull’s-eye bruise the Voltorb has with the tackle,” he said. Then, Barzel mused to himself,"If it thinks its in pain now...” [Focus Strength. Then dash and stare down, followed by a backwards tackle to the bruise from before] Edited by Graffiti, Jul 5 2009, 06:22 PM.

Hm.... Now, everything would have probably gone well during this battle, IF it actually were to finish. But, one detail was overlooked: the battling area. It was a broken down building, and I don't think bashing into the walls and floor helped with the stability issues. The floor beneath the rather heavy ball began to crack, the walls buckled almost, and the ceiling was beginning to look like an old painting. Thiiiiis didnt seem good. After cracking enough to look like an old man's foot, a section of the ceiling fell, and the ball fell through the floor. Funnily enough, the ceiling landed right where the Voltorb once stood?, making a happy coincidence that it happened to fall through the floor. But, all was not well yet for- HOLY CRAP THAT'S A TORKOAL. A rather pissed looking Torkoal was now standing where the Voltorb once was, and it look at the water type with some attitude. Obviously falling a story didn't make it's mood nice... But, a water turtle vs a fire turtle should be a pretty epic battle, yes? Magen figured that your instructions still applied, even for a new target, and Focused on it's strength, rasing it's attack. Magen then began to run for the Torkoal, and used Staredown while doing so. The already-pissed/confused Torkoal caught wind of this, but it's White Smoke ability prevented it's stats from being pulled down, as a cloud of smoke erupted from it's back and blocked it's eyes from meeting with the staredown. That having failed, Magen pulled off it's last order, the Tackle. the Torkoal didn't seem to have any bruises on it to aim for, so the next best thing was to give it one. Jumping over it, it flipped backwards and rammed right into the Torkoal's forehead, giving it a nasty hit. He landed, then saw the Torkoal beating the floor in pain. Well, atleast the part he's standing on is sturdier then the rest of the building. In the rules of battle, a switched out Pokemon cannot attack during the same turn. Since nature apparently 'switched out' the Voltorb for Torkoal, you get away with it not attacking- for now. Battle! “When life hands you lemons, find life and beat the crap out of it until it gives you a refund,”… perhaps one of the less popular sayings of Mr. Spotlight, but it seems to apply here. The place was coming to pieces, little creaks and cracks here and there turned into major rifts and breaks. Barzel had half a mind to recall Magen and make a run for it, but then everything stopped berserking. It was serene for a moment; peaceful for a teeny tiny fraction for a second. It came to an end when another part of scenery collapsed, engulfing the trio (Barzel, Hannah and Magen) in dust and smoke, that battle must've wreaked some real damage on the surroundings to take it this far! Barzel was blinded by the dust cover, unable to really perceive the situation. Magen on the other hand had a front row seat to the catastrophe. Standing right in the middle of all that commotion, was a beastly red turtle (possibly a distant cousin?!), staring daggers at her. Magen quickly registered this as a threat to Barzel, and threats must be taken care of. Relying on the commands from before, the blue turtle began the attack. Then the dust/smoke cleared and Barzel saw a picture perfect showdown. Magen was there, just like he expected. She was breathing a little bit heavier, but it wasn’t anything serious. But umm… where the hell did that thing come from?! The red tortoise was looking angry, and Magen was staring with an equal distaste right back at it. “Shit just doesn’t stop coming!” he mutter in disbelief. First the Hannah girl, then the Voltorb, and now this Torkoal… I don’t think I can back out now, it looks like the two already got in a little scuffle, and I’ll have to continue this battle. Great. “Magen, stay strong,” Barzel said, while trying to get the remnants of a plan together. “We got a new opponent to fight us. I guess this city doesn’t take to newcomers well. But it’s going to take more than a couple of speed bumps to unsettle us.” He checked his pokegear for the abilities of Torkoal… it didn’t look good . “We have this problem to take care of now, so listen carefully,” Barzel said, carrying a serious tone. “Torkoal is heavy, protected and it has ranged attacks. But we have speed on our side. Get around to it’s back, and do another backwards tackle, aim for its legs. Go full power and bring it down!” “Then, get out of the way as fast as you can. If you hit Torkoal right, you should have some time before it launches a counter attack. While it’s trying to hit you, hit it with another tackle, this time aim for its head,” Barzel said, attacking both the back and the front. “Hannah,” he said, releasing his hold of her to better concentrate on the battle, “looks like everything just became a bit more complicated.” At least that Voltorb was gone. OOC: I was wondering if the Hannah girl plot will be continued, or if anyone has any ideas for what to make of it? Thanks for whoever refs/responds. Edited by Graffiti, Jul 7 2009, 09:35 PM.

Overlord of Blowing $hit Up

Well, this looked pretty much in your favor. For now. Even though they were both turtles, Squirtle had a natural edge on Torkoal by being bipedal. She gained another edge by having the +2 speed boost. So, she shot off, and did her backwards flip over the Torkoal. It was readying it's own attack, now, however. The backwards Tackle hit Torkoal in the back on it's front leg, and made it topple onto it's front. Having built a Smog attack while SQuirtle was doing her acrobatics, the unfinished attack burst from it's mouth, and began to fill the air around it with a noxious gas. It was still small, so it was no threat to the trainers. But, it did hurt Squirtle somewhat, although it luckily wasn't fully poisonous. Jumping over the downed head, Squirtle went in for another Tackle, only to be met by a strong Strike from the Torkoal, the targeted spot of the Tackle ramming into Squirtle's face. Damage was shared to both ends, and squirtle fell back some. The Torkoal seemed to know that Ember wasn't good against most blue things, so it didn't look like it was building any fire. Even with somewhat low EXP, the Torkoal still looked pretty sturdy. If there was any plans to catch it, *AHEM*, it would be a good idea to take it out completely. It looked like it could give a decent struggle against the mind-swashing little orbs that all Trainers eventually carry. But, there was also a problem on your end. As Squirtle settled back down after the attacks, the swiftness in it's legs faded. Oh, great. The massive speed advantage is gone... And to top it off, you could sware that through the noises of the battle, a rolling sound could be heard from under you. Possibly the Voltorb from before fell into a sewer pipe...? "We couldn't pass it or the Voltorb anyway, you have to kick it's ass so we can keep going!" Aaand once again, little girl suprised you with that mouth of hers. Seriously, someone get some soap or $hit. “In a fight, predictability is death,” Mr. Spotlight once said. All of those one on one sessions between Barzel and his mentor left him with a plethora of quotes, ones for any situation. This time, the situation called for a change of plans. Once again, Barzel was mesmerized by the battle. Watching his guardian struggle against its red counterpart filled Barzel with a burning excitement. This was a battle. The rounds before this one were one sided for the most part, with Magen dealing damage without retribution. This Torkoal though… it was putting up a challenge! He was a bit surprised by Hannah’s language though, she was definitely not what he originally pinned her as. This new Hannah had much more personality, but Barzel wasn’t exactly sure if it was a completely positive one. Better to have a cheerleader though, he chuckled at Hannah’s comments and returned his attention to Magen. But for the first time, the battle started to look a tad grim. Magen was weakened, she lost her speed advantage, and that Torkoal looked strong enough to withstand more attacks… it would take some real power to put it down to sleep. This is one tough Torkoal, but this match isn’t over. I’m worried about physical combat, it won’t be long until the Torkoal is able to counter with some moves of its own. First, “Magen, come back to me and away from that smog.” The less exposure to the poison fumes, the better. “Follow my voice, it’s time for a new strategy.” At the current stage, he doubted how much more simple tackles could do. It was time for a change in tactics, “Magen, I was told never to become predictable, but with only a few attacks at our disposal, it’s obvious we’re always going to be coming in for the short range strike. Time for us to double our adaptability,” Barzel said, looking at his water champion with fierce eyes. After all, it was time for Magen to learn a true water attack, being a water type and all that. She needed a long range attack in order to beat this Torkoal down since it was getting dicey moving into close combat. The pieces fit together perfectly. Barzel knew that water gun is the staple of all water moves; this is the first step towards mastery of the element. “The move we’re going to be learning is a simple one, one that you likely remember from your past… you’re going to learn water gun. You’re going to use to rip Torkoal right out of its shell,” he said, followed by an explanation of the basic concept of the attack; a powerful stream of water shooting out from the user’s mouth toward a desired target. How exactly does one teach a Pokémon to do something which should come natural? Well, here goes nothing. “Focus on the form of the attack, it’s a gushing cylindrical stream of water from the mouth towards a target,” Barzel said, trying to assist Magen in whatever way he could. “Squirt,” Magen said, hanging on ever word of her trainer, while keeping one eye out for the Torkoal. She knew better than to be left completely defenseless against an attack. He smiled when he saw her eyes squarely on the Torkoal, but her mind was lapping up his commands. He looked at her with his patented, gaze of complete sincerity. In Barzel’s mind, Magen learning water gun will just be a bump in the road, she was destined to learn this attack and grow stronger, “Focus on the form, and then we’ll add the strength. And as for that opponent, if he makes an attack or a charge towards you, I want to launch a backwards tackle attack at its head. Protecting yourself is a higher priority than learning Water Gun. ” “Tle!” said Magen. She was feeding off the vibes that Barzel was throwing her, and quickly grew in confidence, “Squirt!” “It won’t be easy, but you’ll be able to get it. You have to access that deep pool of water energy inside yourself, feel it out, dive into it, focus on that energy and harness it the best that you can,” Barzel said, hoping this made enough sense for Magen to understand. “When you are immersed in that energy, I want you to visualize sending out a stream of water from your mouth toward that Torkoal over there, yonder. Prioritize on the form, then accuracy and strength. Visualize then attack.” Of course, it was difficult to train a move in general, but especially during the midst of a battle. Then again, giving Magen’s personality, the battle would most likely fuel her efforts to succeed. Barzel was putting up a gamble on her unwavering loyalty and the extreme conditions of conflict. Finished with the preliminary instruction phase, Barzel lowered his hype and spoke with an prophetic calm, “Magen, we’re going to be facing much stronger opponents from now on, we won’t be able to continue on the way we’ve been so far. We need to get stronger ourselves.” Over all of this though., something was still troubling Barzel, something he couldn’t put his finger on. Something was off about this battle, something didn’t belong. Throughout all of the clangs and bangs between the two Pokémon, beyond the crunch of rocks and cracks of brick, there was an eerie rolling sound. It was almost as if a bowling ball was caught right underneath all the action, and was trying to find the pins in the pitch dark alley…. Something was off. Whatever, when the time comes, I’ll deal with it then. Little Magen was your Squirtle, it seemed, and against a fire-typed Pokémon, you needed some water to cool it down – literally. Water was on your side, naturally, seeing as you had a Squirtle. Good idea, by the way, to move-tutor Water Gun to your starter Pokémon. Just that … tutoring in a battle could be a hard task, or the other way round; it’s just about how you gave your orders was all. Right, with that down, let’s actually get down to the tutor report as well as battle report. Snorting and spewing smoke from his nostrils and shell, the Torkoal revved up for a slam with his body to Magen. Being slow and all, it was going to be some time before it actually reached Magen … and that was when you started to tell your Pokémon the concept of Water Gun. As there was a cloud of smog in the room, whatever commands you were giving was punctuated by a little choking on the turtle’s part, resulting in something of an uncompleted order. It was almost like filling in the blanks! Well, now, you just had to wait and see what your Pokémon was going to pull off, since the Torkoal was already lumbering towards Magen. Feeling the water within her bubble up, Magen opened her mouth, but hurriedly closed it. She didn’t want to risk getting poisoned. Since the Torkoal was still a ways away, she decided to try once again. Now … how to get the water out of her systems and into her mouth? Blinking, she managed to summon a small amount of water, before shooting it out. It wasn’t really a stream, or cylindrical for that matter, but at least she knew that she was supposed to be spewing out water. The Torkoal’s head had some water spilled onto it, but it didn’t really do much damage to him. Shaking his head, the other tortoise Pokémon didn’t stop his assault – instead, he continued to charge towards Magen. Now, he lowered his head and tried to ram it into Magen. Still recovering from her Water Gun attempt, your Squirtle was rammed and pushed against the ground. You were lucky the Torkoal didn’t use an Ember on Magen at close range, y’know? Suddenly remembering whatever she needed to do, Magen started to retaliate. Swatting at the fire Pokémon with her tail, Magen hurriedly scrambled to get to her feet. The Torkoal was briefly stunned by the blow, not having expected it. Either way, Magen’s assault didn’t do much damage, but she was hurting. Having a head slam into her wasn’t the best way to start the day in a new place … Well, since Magen had a good idea of Water Gun now, you could perhaps try perfecting it, ne?
