Yo-ho, yo-ho, a pirate's life for me...
|
Name: Vincent "Merlin" Estrel Age: 21 Gender: Male Appearance: Merlin is definitely the short and slender type, standing barely above five feet tall, his skin taking on a light tan hue. His eyes are a dark, dull green in colour, so they don't stand out by themselves. But his eyes do stand out, because Merlin usually puts on green eyeshadow. But people also pay much attention to his hair, his outfit, or the expression on his face. His straight black hair is fairly short in some places, but fairly long in the form of wispy bangs in the front, and even longer in a sort of ponytail in the back. What makes it stand out is the fact it's dyed deep purple in most places. Merlin really does dare to be different and stylish! The most prominent feature of Merlin's outfit is his coat, which is purple as a plum on the outside and lined with pink satin on the inside. It's long enough to reach a few inches below his knees, and fits snugly around him. Near the bottom it tapers off as if into tails, but from the front they look more reminiscent of Mismagius's dress. The coat is trimmed with bright green embroidery, and there are buttons of that same colour near the collar, waist, and edges of sleeves, but those buttons are never fastened. The only place where the coat is fastened is at the waist, by way of a little silver chain. There are two large pockets on the outside, with traces of a fancy-looking green flower design on each. Although I described Merlin's coat in an elaborate fashion, I can't do so with the rest of his outfit. He also wears a lavender-coloured shirt made of silk, deep teal trousers, and shoes made of grey leather. There, one sentence. Though I can say the trousers fit as snugly as the coat does. Also, lastly, Merlin wears two rings on his left hand, one with an amethyst stone and one with a ruby one, both wuth rune designs on them. History: Merlin has jumped around from place to place, from "career" to "career" quite a few times throughout his life. He was born in in Italy (Venice to be exact), but only lived there for three years before moving to Spain. He only lived there for two years before the family moved to Wales. Okay, there the Estrel family had a little time to settle. There, they discovered a society called the Temple of Darkness, a society devoted to paranormal studies and witchcraft, and since they were uneasy about leaving Vincent in daycare, they decided to bring him along to the meetings. There, he likened the experience to sitting back and watching a bunch of adults tell ghost stories and discuss them afterwards. So he learned quite a bit about concepts such as souls, vampires, ghosts, telekinesis... you get the idea. However, as a little boy he enjoyed telling his schoolmates about what he learned whenever the chance arose. (He would never forget the time the teacher told the students a story about vampires around Halloween, and Vincent popped up and blurted, "No, vampires are NOT affected by garlic or crosses or sunlight! And they don't bite people on the neck!") Or he would mention experiences with ghosts he had. Not surprisingly, his schoolmates usually saw him as a freak of some sort... Yet at home he always felt spiritually content, no matter what the real world held in store for him. Kneeling at his windowside altar overlooking a rose garden, wandering the woods at midnight looking for signs in the fog-kissed trees, trying to decipher an ancient spellbook, greeting the rising Sun at the start of the seasons and the days halfway inbetween them, healing sick parents by gently stroking their aura, placing a tarot card under his pillow at night and reading it in the morning... Such were memorable experiences, not to mention the yearly pilgrimages to the site of Avalon. Such were memories young Vincent brought with him when the family made their final move, to the wondrous land of... Sinnoh. Apparently the family had taken up and interest in Pokemon and traveled there to be "close to where they began". It was here that Vincent's life took an interesting turn. In Hearthome City, his neighbours had three sons, who he became close friends with. After long personal talks in Ryan's room and outings around town, the four eventually formed into a gang called the Black Cat Bandits. It was not a violent or foolish gang, and focused more on thieving and spying. It wasn't Vincent's idea, but he played along with it, and accepted it since it was so secretive and "mature". Although not interested in many of the activities themselves, he was glad to help out with planning and sneaking around, and he put what he knew about healing to work. Here the Black Cat Bandits gave themselves nicknames, and, well, Vincent was known as Merlin from then on. In college Merlin majored in chemistry, but didn't do a lot with it. When he got a place of his own (in Lavender Town, as he found the Pokemon Tower intriguing), he also used it as an herb shop, and an outlet for healing and fortune-telling (especially the former, as that was what he was the best at). Still, Black Cat Bandit activities generated more than half of his income. Yet all that time, he was curious about the world around him--a wanderlust was developing in his heart. He often wondered about a Pokemon journey, especially, but for the longest time that was just an idea. Then, on one venture into the Pokemon Tower, he found something that made him definitely decide to go on that journey: a Beldum, floating there at the top of the tower, calling to him it seemed. The Beldum had a note tied around its neck: "Tidings from the Temple, here Magnum waits for thee. P.S. go to Alternia." Apparently Magnum was the Beldum's nickname, though Merlin found it rather odd. But with this, he left, headed for the Alternia region mentioned in the note, hanging up a sign on the shop door that read "Closed I'll be for quite a while, but pray I may return in style. Blessed be the hope in your spirit, for I and all those wise shall hear it." Personality*: You can infer a bit of it from the History. I think it's best to leave the rest to be unraveled in the actual RPG (not to mention it saves me a lot of writing). Starting Pokemon: Beldum Nickname*: Magnum Differences*: Its eyes are purple. (Eye, I should say--I think Beldum has just one...) Starting Town: Nogou Village Poketech Color: Purple Other: Anything not already mentioned will als unravel in the actual journey, just like the Personality. Edited by Suminda, May 11 2009, 12:44 AM.
