Ah, the cool afternoon breeze of the fresh village air whips past your face as you stare into the bright meadow in front of you. Shadowy trees create a sky scape miles away from the edge of the meadow, which seems like an endless amount of miles away. Your first real beginning as a Pokemon trainer, leaving the comforting treehouses and crisp, clean morning air of Nogou Village. You would've started this same journey several years ago if your dear Turtwig hadn't, well you know, been stolen from you after that fateful battle with the two foreigners. However, the day is young and that was a past memory, so let's begin this journey you have waited for all these years. As you look into the bright sun, you spot a flock of grey-colored birds migrating to the west. One puny looking one looks confused and glides gently towards the meadow ground, stopping ten feet directly in front of you. Its black eyes glow with enthusiasm for battle, are you ready for this? Oak peered at the Starly. As he blankfully stared into the darkness of the young bird pokemon's eyes, memories of his last battle began to emerge within his thoughts. Images of battling with his dearest Turtwig flew through his mind, until the nightmare of the day he got stole took place. This was the first time Oak even seen a wild pokemon since that day, let alone thought about having a battle with one. "No!" He shouted as he turned to face his pokemon; Koffing. "Forget it. I can do this," Oak said in determination. Oak glanced back over at Starly. Starly was a familiar foe to him back in the day. He must have battle at least 20 of them in his life time. Starly wasnt the strongest pokemon, and to him not a favorite either. However, Staraptor was a different story. "I think I will try to catch this one," Oak smirked as he took a step back. "Well, lets see if I still got it." Oaks head rotated over to the floating purple pokemon beside him. Koffing was a pokemon he wasnt too familiar with. He had always wanted one. Weezing was one of his favorite pokemon after all. "Hm, lets see...what do you say we start this one off with a Poison Gas attack?" Oak said to his pokemon. |

{{Your grammar needs some work. Make sure you read over your posts before posting them up, alright? Also, you can use up to 2 attack per turn and 3 attacks in one post per battle}} So this would be your first battle since the event years ago. Well, I'm sure you and Koffing will get the hang of it, Starly aren't known for being very tough, so there shouldn't be too many problems in this battle, right? Right. First off was your command to Koffing, a simple Poison Gas attack. With a nod, Koffing began spinning and releasing a thick poisonous gas that only effected pokemon, covering the entire field including you. Luckily enough, Starly was caught in the gas and began to "cough" seconds after it was released. However, Starly was no fool and immediately began using a Flap attack to blow away the gas as well as send Koffing back a few feet into the dirt. Once Koffing got back up the two pokemon stared one another down. From now on, the battle would get much more exciting. Well, that is, assuming you knew what you were going to do... or did you plan on chickening out now? Level 5 31/35 94% level 4 30/34 96%[Poisoned} |

As the two pokemon faced one another Oak started to smirk. He began to laugh a bit and it seemed like for once he was having fun. Two attacks into the battle and Oak already seemed to have found his love for the game once again. Now that his feelings for pokemon were back the only thing left was to see if his skills for battling were too. Oak stopped laughing and his face turned back into a more serious fashion. Koffing was now rotating in air, flipping its body over and over again; obviously bored. It seemed even he was wanting to battle. Oak turned to face his pokemon and quickly began to think up what to do next. "Koffing. I want you to stare deep into Starly's eyes, and let out a call to intimidate him. Once he seems to be a little shook up, attack full force with a Tackle!" Oak called out eager to really begin this battle. Last round was just a practice round to see if Oak still had what it takes to begin a battle. Now all that was left, was to see if he could finish one. |

Here we go. Nodding and taking in your orders Koffing faced Starly with a stern face. No matter how hard he tried to keep eye contact with the bird it would always break his concentration by changing direction quickly. The intimidation tactic of yours had failed but the gas pokemon had not given up yet. Waiting for Starly to get closer he readied a strong tackle attack against the flier. Koffing did not know Starly's plan. Neither of you did. Before making it's move the small bird released a menacing growl from within it's small chest. Now high above Koffing it drops into a gravity defying dive towards your pokemon. Now, Koffing was not about to be overshadowed. The gas pokemon began speeding towards Starly with great force as well. The sound was not pleasant as soft flesh met the thin filmy body of Koffing. Both pokemon were shot back, Starly towards the sky and Koffing the ground thus hitting it hard. Both pokemon took some good damage and both weren't looking so good after the last encounter. It took Koffing a few moments to gather it's strength and resolve back but after it did, the gaseous being levitated back up. Starly almost fell to the earth a few times and finally landed a good 15 feet away to catch it's breath. The poison was spreading fast as bird's already have a heightened heartbeat and this battle was not helping. Frustrated, the bird growled again. This battle was far from over. The battle was going well for Oak. Especially considering that this was really just a battle to get him into the groove once again. Koffing and Starly were about equal in terms of health, but the poison sure gave Oak a small advantage. He had figured a round or two more and Starly would be able to catch. Oak examined the battle field, looking for something to give him and Koffing some type of an advantage. Being in a forest-type atmosphere really didnt make it easy for Koffing. In fact, it made it much easier for a bird rather than a...floating...ball of...gas? Oak thought back to each of his attacks. Tackle was working decently, but he needed something to end this battle quickly. He was eager to get on with my journey. And find some real excitement. Oak clicked a few buttons on his wrist and navigated through the informational pages on Koffing until he found a move that was perfect for the situation. "Koffing, get ready. We are going to focus on learning a new attack," Oak said. "Rollout!" he followed. Koffing blankfully stared at Oak. He was rather confused as to how the move was performed, but finally Oak stepped in. "Ill give you the basics of how to get the attack started, but since I am not really an expert on teaching moves, the rest is up to you," Oak said as he started to scratch his head in nervousness. "Alright," Oak said followed by a deep breath. "Start by taking a deep breath. You need to be completing concentrated and calm. Start rocking your body back and forth, until you develop a nice level spin. Once the spin is completely level, and your not wobbling all over the place, begin to pick up speed. When you feel yourself going fast enough with enough reps, spin toward Starly and crash into him!" Oak commanded. |

Phasing Flashback Defender Vigilance
|
You were attempting to teach your Koffing to learn Rollout. Such a move would be difficult to learn, even for a Pokemon that could learn it through instinct. Your Koffing however, was another story. It had no such instinct which would eventually endow it with the knowledge of this very technical attack. It could only come unnaturally, through the teachings of the most skillful, or most persistent, move tutors. Most of all, and as you were about to learn, such skillful attacks did not come easily. Your Koffing hovered in place as it carefully listened to your directions. It gave a quick grunt of hesitant understanding before acting. It took a deep breath and began to rock back and forth, using spurts of gas to influence its direction. However, this rocking motion did little to send it into the spin that you so desired from it. It merely floated in the air, going forward and backward. But, ever the attentive partner, it had remembered the rest of your directions. It realized that it was getting nowhere, and, instead, began to to put its efforts into an actual spin, just as you had commanded. Around and around it went, trying to hold its position steady in the air. Little fountains of gas squirted from different directions, as it tried to hold its balance. All the while, it spun faster and faster. This maneuver had taken Koffing quite some time, and Starly hadn't just waited on the ground for its attack. It quickly flew up into the air as soon as it caught its breath . But it didn't attack immediately. No, it was far too bewildered, and curious, I might add, at the actions of your Pokemon. It gazed down from its place high above your own Pokemon. It watched as your Koffing peculiarly rocked back and forth. It continued observing your Pokemon as it began to spin. It even chuckled some when Koffing, letting out a large vent of gas, propelled itself forward from its spinning position. Being unpracticed at the art of controlling its motions at such fast rotations, it was sent flying at the ground. Koffing grunted as its body was deflected off of the ground by the spin and sent it into an awkward flight parallel with the ground. It quickly lost momentum, though, and was left skidding along the ground. It came to a stop only a short distance away. A sickeningly dizzy look was clear on its face as it rose back into the air. By this time, the Starly had seen enough. It gave a loud chirp and dove down once more, delivering another tackle to your dizzy Pokemon before rising back up into the air. The attack hit, but it was a glancing blow. Koffing had been swaying erratically, due to its dizziness, and was lucky enough to avoid the full impact of the attack. Still, it had not escaped unharmed and it was looking considerably more tired than it had been before. It was also still lacking in the control and power needed to sustain the Rollout attack. Indeed, it would need either a lot more practice or a lot more guidance before it could effectively use Rollout. Your Team: lvl 5 22/35 69%(Rollout: 10%) Opponent's Team: lvl 4 23/34 79%(Poisoned) |

Oak started to sweat as he stared off into the distance at his Koffing. That really didn't go as planned. He knew he wasn't going to perfect the attack in one move, but he estimated better results than what just happened. "Maybe I did lose some of my skill," Oak sighed. Oak now had to decide on abandoning the move tutoring, or trying something new. Going back to the tackle attacks didnt seem like a bad idea at the moment. "Oh geesh," Oak mumbled. Koffing didnt seem like the easiest pokemon to start a journey with. However, Oak liked a challenge. Koffing turned to face his trainer. His face still seemed to be stinging from the major backfire of the Rollout attack. "Well, it could have been worse," Oak laughed at his friend. Koffing must not have found the sarcasm however, as he turned back away from his Trainer and faced the opponent. "It was a joke Koffing, dont worry. I think your doing great!" Oak said trying to sound encouraging and convincing at the same time. Without wasting anymore time, Oak bursted out with a command. "Koffing, full blown Tackle attack!" |

Finding this more simple attack much more useful than trying Rollout again at this point, Koffing was more than happy to charge through the air towards the young bird, emitting small puffs of gas as it accelerated. It may have been insulted at your mockery earlier, especially as it had been your idea to try the attack - in an important combat situation – in the first place, but he was still determined to fight for his owner. By this time, Starly had retreated back to the sky, flapping his wings at high speed to keep it airborne. As Koffing approached in another Tackle attempt, the bird flew straight at him, mimicking the same attack the two had performed two turns ago. However, just as they came within inches of one another, Starly swerved past Koffing’s left side, leaving the gas pokemon careering off into the sky. He slowed down as he reached ground level, hovering about five feet off the ground. He turned to look at you, showing what looked like a smirk (or, as close to a smirk as a bird can make, what with the beak and all.) Unbeknownst to the smug little bird, Koffing had already managed to correct his course, and now sped, aided somewhat by gravity, towards his back from above. Starly saw you looking, and turned to see what the commotion was. By the time he had seen your Koffing, it was too late. The gas ball slammed into the bird, using his speed and momentum to crash into the ground with a fleshy thud. You grimaced. That must have hurt! This time, Koffing’s attack had been successful, eventually anyway. You had noticed something from this, though. From both of Koffing’s two incidents involving the ground thus far, as well as what you had just seen, you realise that your Tackle attacks do extra damage if you can grind Starly into the ground. Well, you had the advantage now. Starly’s poison was surely not helping his condition either, and now he was starting to look quite frail. Oak seemed to be stuck in place. He didn't blink, move, or say anything. Orders for Koffings next move were not being barked out, and he was twisting and spinning to try to figure out what was going to happen next. Instead, he stood, numb. Oak was actually thinking. He had finally found something that gave him an advantage in the battle. Besides the poison of course, which was actually working quite well for him. "That was great Koffing!" Oak blurted out as he finally seemes to regain his body. He stared at Koffing and then once again into the beady eyes of Starly. "This is it Koffing. We are going to end it here," Oak calmly and smoothly said. He turned to face Koffing once more, this time a little more confident. Oak reached down to his belt and placed his hand on an empty pokeball. He had high hopes for this round. "Let out a Poison Gas attack. It wont do anything to Starly, but hopefully it will confuse him or upset it vision a little," Oak said clinching the pokeball and pulling it off his belt. "Next, tackle him once more. If you can tackle him toward the ground, that would be great!" He shouted. "The rest, will be up to me. The poison should help a little to." Oak streched his arm back, holding the pokeball and waited for the perfect moment. As soon as Koffing clashed into Starly, he would fling forward his arm, and the pokeball would soar toward Starly. |

Koffing too had realised that this battle was drawing to a close. And boy was he looking forward to it. He charged towards Starly once more, but instead of Tackling him, like the bird had antipated, he released a cloud of poison gas. While your intention had only been to obscure his vision, Starly's poor health meant he had to gasp for air as Koffing flew past.. Which allowed more poison into his system. Oh dear.. poor bird. Even more poisoned than before, and with his vision obscured, Starly was lost. He didn't know where Koffing was, he didn't know where you were, he didn't know where HOME was. All he knew was that he had to get out of this gas and get away. Taking a risk, he darted out of the cloud... and flying straight into a tree. The poor little bird bounced off, letting out a cry, and fell to the floor a few feet from it, twitching. Rather smugly, Koffing sauntered over and lightly tackled the weakened Starly, for good measure. It might not have been much, but after all that poison, AND the tree, it was enough to knock the poor bird out. Koffing began to rejoice, flying around in circles, releasing more clouds of gas. After his little victory dance (if you call it a dance), he flew back over to your side, smiling, very proud of himself. He already looked a bit stronger. Anyway, you'd best go catch this Starly before he regains conciousness and runs off. Followed by your smug Smog pokemon (see what I did there? >_>), you walked over to the defeated bird. You couldn't help but feel sorry for him.. but hey, you'd won fair and square, and now you could go back to the Pokemon Center and heal him! But first.. You rolled the Pokeball out of your hand and onto the tiny bird, and watched with delight as he dissolved into a red aura and was sucked inside. Where Starly was but a moment ago, the Pokeball now stood, rocking in place as it battled over Starly's control. The ball shook once, twice, three times.. There was a satisfying "DING!", as the Pokeball stopped quivering. Congratulations, you've just caught yourself a Starly! "Yes!" Oak shouted out. He reached down to grab to the pokeball which now contained HIS Starly. He had caught his first pokemon of this long journey he was beginning. Not only was it a rush and excitement, but it was also a load off of his shoulders. He wanted to know if he still had what it takes to become a great Trainer and this gave him a little more of a reason to believe that he could become a sucessful Pokemon Trainer. Oak held the pokeball out into the air and a smile appeared on his face. "Great job Koffing. I couldnt have done it without you," he said as he looked over to face his gas pokemon. Koffing let out a strange noise, and began to float around happily in the air. Oak looked back down at his pokeball. With a snap he attached the pokeball safely to his belt, turned around, and began to walk in search of the Pokemon Center. "Come on Koffing," He said waving his hand toward the direction in which he wanted to go. "Ive gotta get you two to the Pokemon Center. Then we can continue our journey," He added. Wow, the first Pokemon you've captured. It is quite the memorable moment, isn't it? The thrill, the passion, the drama. I'm fairly certain you will remember this day for quite some time. Well, not only you but your two pokemon as well. You were flying pretty high right now and probably felt as though you could take on the world. That is, after a quick trip to the Pokemon Center. It happened to be good fortune for you, since the Pokemon Center was just a few blocks away. You took off walking in the direction of the red-roofed building. A good five to ten minutes later and you were in front of the automatic glass doors. They slid open to you via motion detector. Inside, you find a waiting room full of couches, chairs, and tables. There were trainers scattered around but it didn't look too busy. Then, your eyes were drawn to the back wall, where a large desk was set. Nurse Joy was standing behind it, and amazingly had nothing to do at the moment. You walked up to her and produced your two Pokeballs. She smiled at you and said, "It will just be a few moments. You may have a seat while you wait." Hmm, a short wait is nothing, right? You took a seat, but then noticed a few trainers huddled around an announcement board. Curious, you walked over to see what it was. This is what you saw: Spoiler: click to toggle It looked to be a poster for a tournament to be held soon. It looks like if you hurry, you may get the chance to participate, but it could be a long shot. Besides, you only have 2 Pokemon. Well, that sure is a mood breaker, but don't let it get you down too much. There can always be more tournaments, and that just means that you will be more prepared for the next one. Nurse Joy then called you out of your comtemplation and over to her desk. She said, "Here you go, have a nice day." She smiled and handed over your Koffing and Starly, all rested and healed. With that little task accomplished, you headed outside, but which way will you go? The forest, Route 1, or somewhere else entirely? The path is open, all you have to do now is choose which one you want to follow. So, which one will you pick? |

Oak walked out of the Pokemon Center, feeling like he was at the top of the world. Ever since he had caught Starly, he almost felt like the Trainer he once was. He was now confident in himself, his pokemon, and the skills they possessed. The only thing left to do now, was to decide where to go next. Oak plopped down on the ground and tried to thing of where to go next on his long journey ahead. It really didn’t matter to him, but he still couldn’t decide. He clicked his two pokeballs off his belt and began to roll them around on the ground. After a few seconds of deep thinking, Oak found himself start to zone out. Memories of old times began to make their way back into Oaks mind like they so often did. Pictures of Oaks loving Chikorita swam through his brain, as eventually Oak found himself sleeping on the ground. A few hours later, Oak awoke from his slumber and began to look around his surroundings. When he remembered his dreams and thoughts of his old pokemon and old life, he punched the ground in frustration and let out a loud shout. Angered with himself and his thoughts, Oak grabbed all of his things and stood up. He began walking off, not knowing where he was heading, but not really caring as well. |

Well, through your dreams and wonders, you found yourself walking through the Forest of Legends. That was one place to be, right? At least you had gotten yourself somewhere right? Well, there were many things around you, and to be honest, the night didn't really pose any differences than the day, you could hear crickets shouting and playing their little tune, but that was about the extent of it, no scary noises, nothing. You were just walking, thinking, not really doing much of anything, when suddenly, you were hit on the head by something, something rather hard, but of course, it didn't hurt to the extent of needing medical attention, it just rattled your brain a bit, got you out of your dazed state of just wandering about. You turn your attention to what had hit you, and guess what it was, a sleeping Pokemon! How in the world did it not wake up? Well, it wasn't awake, and it was sitting there, sleeping. What Pokemon is it you may ask yourself? Well, it was a Pineco silly! Well, apparently it had fallen out of the tree, and onto your head. So, lets see, there's two choices. Move on without the new Pokemon, or try and battle it for a bit, see what happens, get some experience, and possibly catch him! It was all up to you however. Whatever you decided would be the way to go. It wasn't chasing you after all, it was sound asleep. Good luck with whatever you choose. ![]() Level 4 |
