Is it outside reason to use the actual formula to calculate damages for RPing? Or do you just want us to approximate?

Most people including myself just use an approximation. Just be reasonable about it and take into account weight, speed, and type of pokemon using the attack and you will do just fine.

In the Attack Dex it gives a rating on the attack. I.e. Tackle (D), Hyper Beam (A) etc. I use a set amount of damage depending on the rating of the attack
E - 4
D - 5
C - 7
B - 9
A - 11
S - 15

Then add on extra depending on the Level
Level 1-5: + 1
Level 6-10: + 2
Level 11-15 + 3
ETC

Then add the difference in level
YOU: Level 15
Enemy: Level 10
+ 5 damage

So a final calculation:
Using a Level 9 Meowth using Scratch against Level 5 Seedot
5+2+4 = 11 damage

It seems more complicated than it is, but it is really easy.

I just used the damage calculator on Psypokes.com

http://www.psypokes.com/dex/damage.php

It calculates damage based on the

  • pokemon's levels
  • atk/def stats
  • stat modifiers
  • abilities
  • HP%
  • status
  • items and
  • global area affects.
