as far as I know, it's not possible to make backgrounds transparent on Paint, I may be wrong here though. Try downloading programs such as Gimp, Photoshop etc

there ya go, transparent.

Anyways, The first sprite needs some work, a bit more shading, lines need to be fixed a bit etc.

the second ones an improvement but it also needs some work, Plus every time i look at it something about it makes digimon pop up in my head.

but yeh, there pretty good for your first scratches i suppose

I have a photo shop program you can download, so next time you come over I'll let you borrow it. You can make things transparent with it, so yea.

Clean up the lines. Something I learned is that paint does not generate curves well; what they think looks like a circle =\= a circle. Also, do not put two pixels making a corner together, it makes a sprite look really bad >_<

Shading should not be just a long / through the sprite, but curve to fit the body type of the sprite figure, otherwise it looks flat and overall bad.

The first one looks flat and throws off the shading to it. It shouldn't have a three tone shading with a flat body, at least not to that degree of shading. The second tone would be found on one or two lines seperating the first and third tones.

First one is flat, so I don't know how the shading SHOULD be. The second one is round, and the shading from what I've seen on Voltorb should be progressively getting like a crescent. Like so. :voltorb So it should have maybe one or two shades along with the last crescent shade at the bottom right, if the light source is coming from the top left.

Also, in sprites, it is always great to not have corners in sprites, where one line is sort of overlapping the other. It's hard to explain, but it makes it cleaner.
