Aquos's Journey

As Aquos held the Pokéball within her hands, she felt the reassuring ding of the Pokéball when the Sentret entered it. Now, that was certainly something off her mind. Even though it had scampered on her pouch, possibly crushing some cookies, the girl couldn’t bring herself to be mad, or irritated. Had the situation been different, she would have been irritated, but … as said before, things were different right now.

Remix was doing an awesome job of stomping on King with his front leg, defeating the Nidoran in the process. The half-spinning Tackle was unneeded as King was effectively knocked out; he was so close to fainting after all. Aquos smiled at Remix, her mouth opening to praise and speak to the Turtwig.

“Good job, Remix; we showed both James and King, didn’t we?” she said, sparing a glance towards the guy. So what if she had cheated; he had cheated in the first place himself … if only according to Aquos's own feelings. “And of course, you too, Tempo,” Aquos continued, as Remix trotted quietly back into her arms.

James and King seemed to be reeling from the conclusion of the fight. The whiner was running down the road, and the next thing Aquos knew, he had entered the Pokémon Center. Now, that wasn’t too bad an idea; with Remix poisoned and Tempo somewhat bruised or grazed from her previous feat, Aquos figured that the two Pokémon needed some care from the nurses in charge.

“Remix, Tempo,” Aquos said, referring to the Turtwig she was carrying now and the Sentret by her side, “Let’s head down to the Pokémon Center.”

She could only hope that James had left the Pokémon Center, but even having that said, she felt that it was rather unlikely.

Remix gave a sharp rap unto King’s head. Pain clouded his eyes as he forced his already tired leg downwards, with as much force as he could muster.

“Turt!”

A sharp cry issued from his tightly clamped jaw as he stomped downwards. Luckily, everything went alright for him as the Nidoran was effectively knocked out by the Strike attack. He had desired to smash into King with his shell once again like before, just for the sake of driving his point in. Yet, he couldn’t bring himself to do it; he was tired and smarting …

As Aquos spoke to him, he smiled weakly, nodding at her. They both did show them what they were made of … finally, he realized that his previous fears of his new Trainer were unfounded, and Aquos seemed to be as good as her appearance was.

With the emergence of Tempo from the Pokéball, Remix gave a nod towards his new teammate. If Aquos so desired to have a new member on their team, he found that he could accept it. Her general lithe movements and determination was to be envied, even if it only emerged in the presence of food. Well, he could live with that … and work with her.

Quietly, he trotted into Aquos's outstretched arms, leaning his head on her. He felt grateful for her small gesture of concern for him; after being cooped up in his Pokéball for quite some time, he’d actually worried that she’d forgotten about him, but all was well … all was definitely well.

It didn’t matter to Tempo anymore; the streets of Millenia could be a thousand miles away and she still wouldn’t mind. Cookies and the random square-shaped food was good, and besides, it gave her a very nice burst of energy. She wasn’t up to fighting, but if there was a cookie or two as motivation … whatever reserves she might have had on the subject was easily and quickly dispelled.

Looking up at her new Trainer, Tempo smiled, standing on her long tail. Where to, now? It seemed that with Remix looking rather sickly, it would be the Pokémon Center. A knowledgeable smile coming across her face, she pointed towards the road where James had retreated down. The blue people she heard others calling ‘please-men’ were nowhere to be seen, so that was a plus.

Chirping brightly, she slowly trotted forwards, drawing out the cookie she had deftly snatched from Aquos's pouch. There was nothing happier to the Sentret than this … except, maybe, say, a larger cookie.

Well a quick stop to the Pokemon center would defiantly be a nice change of pace. Together with your pair of Pokemon, you quickly made your way down the street and into the Pokemon Center where our friend James was causing more drama for himself. The man just did not take losing to a "cheater" quietly.

"I tell you she cheated me! Why won't you call the cops already! I want her license revoked now! She is a disgrace to all trainers!"

While you've possibly heard him whine enough, apparently the nurse in charge of the front counter heard the same plea many times more than you. Her face was quickly turning red and veins were starting to show on her temple and in her neck. She was obviously restraining herself from causing James bodily harm as he whined about his poor misfortuned life.

Finally taking all that she could, the nurse slapped her hands down on the front desk and bent over with two Chansey appearing on either side of James.

"I'm getting tired of you coming in here and complaining how unfair your last battle was. If you are going to lose, take it like a man or you can start packing your things at home right now honey."

The guy looked like all the fight and whining drained from him. He just slumped and handed over King for healing. He just walked off to an area where no one could see him and sulked. He just sat there away from all the happy trainers until he manned up enough to face his wife's face with dignity again...Well at least you don't have to deal with him.

The Nurse turned back into the, oh so cheerful Nurse that everyone knows and loves. She smiled a very warm smile and held out her hand. "Your Pokemon look hurt. Could you return them and hand them to me. I'll have them healed in a moment. I see your Turtwig is poisoned so that means you are the little one that beat my useless husband. Oh don't worry darling. This sort of incident happens a good bit. He always overreacts and usually gets many people in trouble. Don't worry he should be sulking now so he'll leave you alone as you wait."

The nurse took your Pokemon and allowed you to sit on a bench near the front desk. There were a few current Pokemon Breeder and Coordinator magazines near the bench for trainers to read while they waited. A few minutes later she reappeared with your Pokeballs with your Pokemon.

"Here you are dear. Your Pokemon are fully healed and you can go on about your day." She turned to take care of the other Pokemon and completely ignored your existence until you needed her once again. Now you could just leave and be on your merry little way, or you could poke some fun at the poor shmuck that you beat. Well the latter will be a bit overkill, so how about you just move on.

Hell hath no fury like a woman’s wrath was definitely true and applicable in this situation. Well, at least, she had some good sense within her – unlike her good-for-nothing husband. It was a wonder he actually managed to get married, and to someone like her! Just … wow. There was nothing else Aquos could use to describe what she was feeling right now.

Just as the nurse took Remix and Tempo for healing, she took out their Pokéballs, ready to give them to the nurse – oh, there was no need for them. As she tossed Remix’s Pokéball within her palm, whiling away her time (the magazines didn’t really pique her interest), the girl noticed a small piece of tape and a note on the device.

Clavier

On it, the above word was written in rather cursive handwriting. Aquos knew for one that it wasn’t the recipient’s name, for it was Michael instead of Clavier; hence, it could only mean that Remix wasn’t actually called Remix. Oh … it was still a music-related word anyway, but she figured she’d stick to his original name. What she needed last, actually was her Pokémon to have no sense of identity, seeing as the Turtwig formerly had a Trainer.

So Clavier it was. As the nurse returned with her Pokémon, she smiled warmly at her. “Thanks,” she said, her two Pokémon trotting up to her with smiles on their faces. She handed a cookie to Tempo, while she spoke to Remix: “Well, actually, you’re called Clavier, so I’m calling you that from now on. You’re expected to respond upon call, got it?”

Clavier. Clavier.

The name sort of rang a chord within the Turtwig’s mind. Clamping his jaw firmly shut like always, he gave a nod. He wasn’t originally called Remix; he knew it was spur of the moment, and boy, he definitely was glad that Aquos had found out what his original name was. It was strange, and Clavier thought it really didn’t suit him, but … whatever. There wasn’t any use arguing in this situation, so he merely kept quiet and allowed a small smile to grace his face.

Actually, giving him a name means giving him an identity – yes, without a doubt, Clavier was glad to be something. He might not be the best or the worst, but just … something. That alone gave him sort of a sense of belonging.

The Sentret grinned. As she accepted the food, she realized from the scent and shape that it wasn’t cookies – but what she had now worked too. Nibbling on the food, Tempo listened in on the conversation between Clavier and Aquos. It might not have been a conversation – in fact, one might even term it ‘lopsided’ – but her teammate seemed to take it within his stride. He didn’t even seem to flinch.

She admired that as she watched the Turtwig with bright eyes.

Exiting from the Pokémon Centre, Aquos looked at her Pokémon. She had two of them … and she needed to do something. Just fighting and irking others wasn’t what she wanted to do; she might get a kick out of the occasional steal, but she wasn’t all bad. Sighing softly as her azure eyes fell on the duo, a small smile came across her face.

“Right, you two, listen up. I’m going to teach you new attacks; the starting might be a little hard, but believe me, it will pay off … sooner or later,” Aquos said, looking at her Pokémon. She knew that Clavier was an independent one: he’ll probably be able to manage on his own without much help (but still with guidance); Tempo, well, Aquos wasn’t really clear on what and how she was like, besides that display of sheer power with food as an incentive.

Gesturing for Clavier to take to her left and Tempo to her right, she started to speak once again, giving Tempo a biscuit to occupy herself.

“Clavier, we’re going to learn Razor Leaf today. From the name, one can infer that it involves leaves with razor-sharp edges. That will hurt, which is entirely the point of the attack. Now, I want you to focus on creating energy within your leaves. To do that, you just produce food like you always do when you’re hungry – and send the nutrients to your leaves on your head. Once you feel confident enough, you thrust or toss your head to get the leaves flying out. We’ll work on getting the edges sharp later on; our target for now is just firing leaves.”

Leaving Clavier to his own devices, Aquos turned to Tempo, who had finished her biscuit. Dangling a biscuit in front of the Sentret, naturally, Tempo reached out for it – only to be denied a good snack.

“How’re you feeling right now?”

No response, but the sulking face of the Sentret told volumes.

“You’re feeling upset, maybe even angry … for not having a biscuit as a snack. Remember how you slashed King? You will use Scratch numerous times, rapidly in succession. You want that biscuit so get practicing. This attack is known as Fury Swipes, but you can always improvise and do it your own way.”

Aquos’s instructions to Tempo was indeed a little short and simplified compared to Clavier’s, but without knowing much about her personality, it indeed, was a little hard to give directions without having the wrong effect on her.

Blinking and digesting what Aquos has just said, the Turtwig glanced up at her. His face didn’t actually spell out confidence, but he had an amount of it within his body ... just not that much. Somehow or rather, he felt that this whole skill-learning thing was a little risky, for lack of a better word. Either way, he tried his best to follow Aquos’s directions.

He wasn’t feeling particularly hungry, but as a grass-type Pokémon, undergoing photosynthesis was innate. Almost every grass-type had that ability to make their own food, and he wasn’t exempted from that. As Aquos had told him to ignore the razor-sharp leaves for the time being, Clavier nodded, feeling somewhat relieved. The relief within him … he was unable to explain it himself, but somehow or rather, he felt that he just wasn’t up to making the leaves sharp just yet.

Looking around him, he stamped one foot forwards, grounding himself firmly before getting ready to process food. After that, he’d try to pump the nutrients into his leaves. Beyond that was unknown, for Clavier had somehow decided that he’ll just take a step at a time … and improvise when needed. Improvising was always good.

Tempo’s eyes brightened upon the emergence of the biscuit. It definitely was – definitely was – oh, darn. Aquos had returned the biscuit to her pouch.

Instinctively, Tempo clenched her fists, a pout coming upon her face. She couldn’t fathom why the biscuit wasn’t given to her, and frustration and mild anger welled up within her small frame. Sulking, she crossed her arms, wanting to pour her frustration on something. And then ... there was the command to use Scratch.

Scratch. She knew Scratch; it was a scratching motion, like –

swish

Confused rather than frustrated now, Tempo set to work on learning Fury Swipes.

So, teaching two different Pokémon two different moves at the same time, huh? Well, aren't you a clever one? I can barely manage to tie my shoelace and remain vertical at the same time, so you've clearly got the multi-tasking thing down way better than I have. I guess then that you're wondering how much help I'm likely to be in this process; well, suffice it to say that I'm not doing anything else at the moment, so you've got my full attention. Lexi: 1, Multitasking: 0. Anyway, I'm sure that you're more interested in what's actually happening than you are in me jabbering on, so let's take a look, shall we?

I'll start with Clavier, just because I can. The little turtle Pokémon was focusing on drawing energy out of the sunlight, and with each passing second he felt more and more energy being transferred into his body. As he absorbed the sunlight he pushed all of the energy towards the leaves on his head. Eventually he had stored as much energy in the leaves as he thought was possible; the leaves were figuratively bursting at the seams. Only question was, what exactly did he need to do now? You had said that he needed to somehow throw or fire the leaves forwards, but how should he go about doing that?

While Clavier decides what to do next, we might as well take a look at what Tempo's up to. The little scout Pokémon wasn't in the best of moods. Not only did it not have any food, but it also wasn't exactly sure what it was supposed to be doing. I mean, you said she was going to learn a new move, not just practice scratch. Meh! Who cares?! As long as it will result in a cookie, right? Swish... nothing? Alright... again: Swish... what? That's not enough either? You're kidding, right? No? Okay, let's give it another shot. Hey! Maybe we should try something a little bit different, like using both hands this time: Swish-swish... haha! How was that?! I'm not sure about you, but I wouldn't have called that a Fury Swipes. See, the problem is that there isn't any fury behind them, just desire. I'd recommend getting this Pokémon really mad, then see what happens.

Now, well just take one more quick look at how Clavier's going before I hand the reigns back to you. In the time that we've been watching Tempo, this little guy's been trying a Myriad of different options, from flinging his head forward and backward, to shaking it from side to side. Nothing seemed to be working, and the leaves remained planted firmly in the Turtwig's head. Jumping up and down didn't work (though that was just one of those things where you think "meh, what harm could it do", so there weren't high hopes for that method), spinning around in circles didn't work, even holding his nose, closing his mouth and then trying to blow the leaves out of the top of his head didn't work... it just gave him a headache. In desperation, Clavier raised a foot to his head an poked at the leaf, which promptly fell to the ground. Well, that's one way of doing it. Not very efficient, but it was a start. Maybe we need to get more energy into the leaves, or maybe there was a method we missed? You're the move tutor, you decide.

Smiling softly, Aquos looked at her Pokémon, before thinking for a short while. Clavier was managing by himself pretty darn well – at least he got the food creating part up and working. She was sort of worried that he would need some help there (which meant drawing back on her craptastic Science knowledge), but she realized that her worries were unfounded. Good for her.

“Right, Clavier … you need to get the leaves flying. Prodding it might work in the short term, but in the long term … no. Just no,” Aquos said, looking at the Turtwig with a serious expression. She was serious about this: just imagine the prodding needed to get leaves flying when he grew in to a Grotle. Needless to say, it was going to be impossible when he was a Torterra. Glancing a second time at Clavier, she nodded quietly, knowing what to say now.

Pointing at the little leaves on Clavier’s head, Aquos started to speak. “Clavier, can you spin the little propeller-like stem on your head? If it won’t come off by shaking … it might work this way,” she said, “If it doesn’t work, improvise. I know you like improvising, so I’m giving you the freedom to do so. Get to learning Razor Leaf in a roundabout way even if you’re forced to, okay?”

Muttering a soft apology before approaching Tempo, Aquos looked at the Sentret’s slashing. She figured that taunting wasn’t going to work … lest she felt the wrath of the Pokémon. Instead, she took out a biscuit. Reaching it out to Tempo, naturally, the Sentret extended her own paw to grab it, but –

Aquos gently nibbled on the cookie, before downing the whole thing with a grin on her face. She felt rather bad for denying her Pokémon a treat, but in this situation … she needed anger within Tempo for the ‘fury’ part of Fury Swipes. A soft snarl from Tempo notified Aquos that it might actually work this time around …

Oh yeah! Clavier sure had got the hang of creating energy and pumping them into his tiny leaves – he wasn’t a grass-type for nothing. The Turtwig nodded at the statement from his Trainer, giving the technique learning another shot. Focusing in silence, he attempted the spinning of the little stem upon his head. He didn’t say it, but he had somewhat of an idea on how Razor Leaf was supposed to look like.

First, one made sure that the leaves on their head, body, or whatever appendages were firm and strong. To ensure that happening, nutrients will be transported to the leaves, the stem, or even both. After that … well, it was only mere guessing, but Clavier thought that the first step was right. The only thing he was unsure of was that without sunlight or a light source, he wouldn’t be able to undergo photosynthesis. That would be a slight wrinkle that he would work out … when the time came.

For the time being, he was occupied with trying to fire the leaves on his head by spinning the stem.

Tempo snarled. First, no biscuit, and now, Aquos was eating it in front of her?! Unforgivable! Tapping her feet on the ground with a scowl on her face, she extended her claws, rearing up on her tail. Boy, she wasn’t one to be tricked like that! She was going to learn this Fury Swipe thing even if it meant going without a biscuit or two for the moment.

Anger bubbling within her furred torso, she jabbed her claws forwards, murderous intent with each swipe.

Do. Not. Ever. Take. My. Biscuit. From. Me.

Thank Arceus she hadn’t tried slashing Aquos … maybe she had some respect for her after all, eh? Even if she was regarded as the Holy Giver of Food and All Things Food-ish.

Clavier's mind was set. He WAS going to do this! It shouldn't be that hard, he'd just hit a bump in the road, that's all. I mean, who'd have thought that flicking a few leaves out of the top of your head would be tat hard? This is going to work, this will work, and this is going to work! The Turtwig braced himself again the ground once more and focused his mind on the leaves on the top of his head. Shaking them off didn't work, so they clearly needed some other form of stimuli, just like that poke that he had given them. Obviously prodding the leaves from the top of his head was never going to be an effective battle strategy, so there had to be some other way. Your suggestion of spinning the twig atop his head seemed plausible, so let's try that. Start by searching for the new muscles required to perform such a task, then stretch... and relax... stretch... and relax...

These motions caused the stem on the little turtle Pokémon's head to wriggle, from left to right, but it didn't exactly spin. Well, that's ok... maybe that bit isn't supposed to be able to spin. It did give him an idea though. Flexing the muscles in different ways allowed him to move the leaves in different directions, and it wasn't long before Clavier had figured out how to flick the leaves backwards and forwards. That movement seemed like it would be sufficient. Focusing on his internal energy conversion system once more, the Turtwig pushed another bubble of power up to the leaves and then executed the little flicking maneuver that he'd practiced. As he stretched the trig on his head backwards in preparation for the flick, he felt a tingling sensation up there, and although he couldn't see it, you could see exactly what had happened. Clavier had actually grown a few more leaves... or, that's what it looked like anyway. The leaves were sort of glowing a tiny bit, and they didn't seem to be particularly permanent. In fact, they looked like they would drop off at any second - and that's what they did.

When Clavier felt the tingling at the top of his head he was so surprised that he forgot what he was doing in an attempt to investigate the odd sensation. A moment later, the tingling stopped, but the Turtwig heard something brush against his shell. Turning around he noticed five or six leaves lying on the ground. Unsure where they had come from, Turtwig raised is foot to feel for the leaves on top of his head once more, and found that they were still in tact. That meant that these leaves were actually ones that weren't there before! That must have been what the tingling was; he'd somehow managed to grow some more leaves. But then they fell off... oh well, we'll deal with that next time, shall we?

----- *deep cartoon narrator voice* "MEANWHILE!" -----

Swish-swish-swish-swish-swish. Swish-swish-swish-swish-swish.

Tempo was furious. Actually, that's wrong - Tempo had gone far beyond furious. I mean, the nerve that you had, to deny the poor little cute and fuzzy... uh, thing, not only one biscuit, but TWO! What's more, you actually ATE one of them in front of her! How rude! You know, I wouldn't have been surprised if the poor little bub did practice her Fury Swipes on you... I mean, you kind of deserve it. But then, that was the whole point, wasn't it. Get the creature hopping mad and see how it all goes down. Well, I gotta say, it's sort of working! Admittedly it's not perfect yet... the flurry of scratch attacks is still to slow to actually be considered a single move, but it was getting a lot better. You know that scene from "The Karate Kid II" where Daniel figures out that whole thing about action/reaction with the drum? Well that's kinda what Tempo looked like, swinging from side to side, keeping up a perfect rhythm (I guess you chose a good name for her): Left-right-left-right-left... Left-right-left-right-left...

Just like the spinning drum from the movie, Sentret was attacking and then moving her body through the attack, which although it is a nice way to avoid counter-strikes during battle, it's not really what Fury Swipes is about. It was too controlled, to perfect. The attack needed to be more frantic, more desperate... It should be the move you use when you just want to get right up in your opponents face and cause them as much pain as you could. Tempo was doing things with too much... well... tempo! In any case, this time was a big improvement. Both of your Pokémon now seem well on the way to learning their respective moves, but I wonder how long the little Sentret is likely to keep working without food. Lucky for you that when she was younger, her mother had taken her aside one day and said "Never bite the hand that feeds you!" Admittedly, Tempo was learning Fury Swipes, not Bite, but I think that the same principle applies.

Tempo was being Tempo, and Clavier was being Clavier. There was no easier way to describe the current situation at hand … As Aquos tried to think about what exactly to tell in this situation, Clavier had actually succeeded in doing something. He had managed to summon created leaves from the usual duo he had on his head, and that was certainly a step forwards! She tried her best not to think about Tempo for the time being; the flames of fury within her eyes were menacing enough to melt titanium.

“Clavier, continue flicking the leaves forwards and backwards. No matter what you feel, just continue flicking them,” she said.

Aquos moved a feet or so closer to the Turtwig. Looking into his eyes and trying to show sincerity within them, she began to speak once again. “I know … learning new stuff might be hard in the beginning, but it’ll work out … sooner or later, even though it might not be too soon. Just keep at it,” she said, trying to encourage the leaf Pokémon.

A minute later, as she left Clavier to his own devices, she forced herself to look at the now raging Sentret. Aquos held out a biscuit.

“You want … this biscuit, don’t you, Tempo? You can’t jump or attack me, but you want it, right? Just try to … grab it.”

Figuring that it might actually get Tempo down the furious and maybe, just maybe, fast route, Aquos decided that whatever it was, it was definitely worth a shot. The biscuit continued to hang before the Sentret, its strong scent of chocolate wafting through the cool air of the season …

Focusing your attention on the Turtwig for a moment, you noticed that he'd managed to create some brand new leaves of him own, but it had seemed that the entire sensation that he felt while doing so distracted him in such a way that he forgot to actually flick them anywhere. As a result, the leaves that Clavier had created simply fell to the ground. Ah well; better luck next time, huh? With this in mind the grass-type tried again. Clavier braced himself against the ground once more and pushed what power he had into the step protruding from the top of his head, and while doing so he tilted the twig backwards a little. This movement once again triggered the leaf-creation mechanism (don't ask me how... it just does), but the Turtwig tried his hardest this time to ignore the somewhat unsettling feeling. With one final burst of energy, Clavier flicked the stem on his head forwards, propelling the leaves surrounding his head a few meters through the air before they ran out of puff and floated to the ground.

Well; that sure was something, huh? I reckon Clavier's doing pretty well. I mean, he's not only learned how to create the leaves that he needs, but he's also figured out how to throw them. Granted, he can't throw them very far, but at least he can actually get them to move. So what's next? Are you going to work on throwing technique, or something else? If you happened to walk over and examine one of those leaves that are on the ground, you'd notice that they're pretty limp and floppy; not at all like the hard and pointy leaves that are required for a successful attack. Maybe that's the reason they don't fly very far. Then again, maybe that's not the reason, but either way, it's something that needs to be rectified at some point, because even if Clavier can work out how to throw them properly as they are, they don't look to me like they're going to do a whole lot of damage.

Now we'll sheck back in with Tempo. I'm not really sure what to say here... I mean, this one's getting a little bit tedious, and we all know it. Tempo's completely sick of simply using the same scratch attack over and over and over, and I'm honestly not enjoying watching the poor creature exhaust all of its energy doing so. There's got to be something that can be done. Wait... how about another cookie!

With the appearance of the chocolate-chip biscuit, Tempo's face seemed to brighten and grow stern, all at the same time. It was kind of like "Oh! Yay! A cookie!" and "You'd better damn well give me that this time - or else!". Well, I'm not exactly sure what you had planned, but you held the biscuit out towards Tempo, almost taunting it in a way... The little furry Pokémon swung a claw at the biscuit, but wasn't quite close enough. Oh! So that's what you were going to do! I get it now! With each swing of a claw you let the Sentret get a tiny little bit closer to the biscuit, but every time you managed to nip it out of the way just in time. This was good: giving the Sentret a target to shoot for was a much better way of getting this move taught, for it would force the Pokémon to use instinct, rather than planning. Hopefully this would draw out the unpredictability that a move like Fury Swipes requi--- OUCH!

Ooooh! It seemed like your plan backfired a little bit. You must have been off with the pixies for a moment there, because you didn't quite snap your hand out of the way quick enough to prevent being scratched just then. Letting out a gasp of pain and dropping the biscuit, you yank your hand back and examine the three red pinstripes that had suddenly appeared across the back of it. Tempo was upon the cookie in a second, thinking at first that she had won the game, but when she heard your quick intake of breath she fixed her stare onto your face, a horrified look in her eyes. Maybe you'd underestimated this one. Certainly it had seemed that all she was interested in was the food, but that look seemed to portray something further. If you asked me, I'd say that the Sentret was a little bit scared. Sure, she had no reason to expect that you were an invincible warrior or anything like that, but Tempo had been in a few fights in her day, and she knew that she was no Muhammad Ali. The fact that she had caused you pain came as a shock to her, and it looked as though she really cared about you (though I will admit, she hasn't put the biscuit down).

Anyway, I'm going to leave it up to you from here. Let you decide what's happening.

”Well, I guess that’s enough training …” Aquos said. The cut on her hand went ignored; it would clot up and heal in its own due time. As she looked at Tempo, she nodded calmly, taking no notice of the fact that she had previously scratched her over her hand. The move training would be stopped right now, and they could go search for … something. A Pokémon, perhaps – grass was a common factor in most areas, and Pokémon usually lurked within them. With a calm face, she looked at the Sentret and Turtwig.

“Right, we’re going to search for some Pokémon.”

Clavier blinked quietly. He was sort of tired, but he had actually managed to get somewhere in this game. He was silent … for the moment. Snapping his jaws together, he slowly trotted up to his Trainer, and stood by her. His eyes fell on Tempo, who was nibbling at the cookie, before chomping on it. It seemed that chocolate was too great a temptation for her … oh well. With a soft comment or two under his breath, the turtle Pokémon noticed that the leaves he’d conjured up were slightly weak. As he waited for Aquos or Tempo to make a move, he decided to train a bit more. Just a bit more wouldn’t cause any harm, right?

Focusing once again, he decided to try the same motions all over again. Focus, create energy, and pump into leaves, then fire. Now, to get them all firm and sharp was difficult. Maybe, the trick was to create fewer leaves than before? That would mean that the leaves would get more punch in them instead of being spread out. Yeah, that might actually seem it was going somewhere … using a sharpener in the form of Tempo’s claws weren’t very plausible.

Tempo was stunned. How could she have – how could she … what was done, was done. Hanging her head down in shame, she awaited the berating that would follow soon after. That’s what her mother had done before, precisely what she had done … the biscuit still clutched within her hands, she quietly awaited her punishment … only thing was, it didn’t come. She was stunned, yet again.

“Sen?” she asked, unable to control her sudden curiosity. Watching Aquos with a wary eye, she proceeded to nibble on the biscuit. Seeing no reprimanding from the girl, she hurriedly bit into the biscuit, finishing it in a few bites. Wasn’t that simply satisfying? Grinning at the girl now, Tempo sighed in relief before hurrying next to her, a smile on her face as she watched Clavier train for a moment more before they actually set off.

Well, you decided to stop the training for a little while, but Clavier didn't exactly agree. He knew he just needed one last try, one more attempt to get it right. He closed his eyes and concentrated, I mean really concentrated. He looked deep within his soul for that primal instinct to.....grow things.......on his head. He felt the familiar tingle and it felt pretty good, but he knew he had to slow it down.

And that's what he did. He slowed it down. He felt the tingling slow down and the tingling slowed down too. But that's not really what he needed. The leaves were growing slower and more deliberately this time. They weren't formed as sloppily as before and they were crisper and more firm than the previous ones. Once Clavier felt that they were fully formed, he did his thing and the leaves flew off.

Boy was he surprised! And so were you! Tempo was still eating her biscuit but even she looked up at what happened. The leaves flew off Clavier's head, sharp and crisp, and flew straight and far. So, without even trying, that little Turtwig has successfully performed a razor leaf. He tried to make less leaves, but all he really needed to do was slow down and put more care into forming the leaves.

So, you had mastered razor leaf. Way to go! Clavier was pretty excited too, as he kept shooting and shooting and shooting away. He looked like he was having fun and you couldn't help but giggle at his antics. Then something went horribly wrong. "Ow! What on Earth?" One of Clavier's leaves hit a passing man. He looked to be elderly, with gray hair and a brown suit. He looked pretty angry.

"Your miscreant pokemon ruined my suit! Well, I do believe a scolding is in order! Marcus, Crescendo, teach this whippersnapper some manners!" A Poochyena and a Shinx appeared on the ground in front of you. Well, I don't really see a way out of this.

“Great job, Clavier,” Aquos said, smiling at her Turtwig. Well, he certainly seemed like a bright one. Tempo … well, not so much; she wasn’t going to comment on her just yet – the Sentret deserved a second chance after all. With a short glance at the sheepish-looking creature, she decided to attend to the more pressing matter that was the (apparent) fight at hand. With a decidedly calm face, the girl turned to look at the elderly man.

With a small pout upon her face, she listened to what the man had to offer. She couldn’t really place a finger on his age, but anyway … “I apologize for that,” she said, her face still a picture of calm. The only thing to do now was fight; her Pokémon were probably tired from move training, but still, with this prospect looming, it seemed like a good way to get Tempo to complete her Fury Swipes. “But if you leave me no choice, I will take you on,” the girl continued, her azure eyes falling on the man’s Pokémon.

It was a Poochyena and a Shinx. The little Pokémon of blue and black was intriguing to her, more than the grey and black hound. The Shinx, without a doubt, had caught her eye … “Clavier, Tempo,” she said, gesturing to her Pokémon, “Be my guest.”

Clavier grinned to himself. It had started out as a perfectly confident grin, but the grin melted into a sheepish one as he stared at what he had just done to the old man. Apparently, his leaves had struck him … oh boy. As the two Pokémon emerged, the Turtwig took a wary step back. Was this going to be another fight, just like the one with King? It seemed to be so, and with the statement from the man, it seemed imminent.

As Aquos gave him the command to attack, he stopped briefly for a moment as he felt the rush of wind that was Tempo pass by him. Tilting his head to one side, he wondered for a moment whether he was to use the new attack he had just learnt. Well, there wasn’t any more fretting as he cried out, charging at the Shinx after Tempo. The little twig upon his head whirled as he darted forwards, firing off several leaves that fluttered towards the Shinx.

Tempo turned to look at the green turtle. Why wasn’t he moving? Was he thinking? Crossing her arms before grunting, she tapped her feet on the ground and broke into a swift run. Raising her hands, she prepared to slash repeatedly at Crescendo. Trying to work up a nice-enough rage like before was rather hard, especially when she was thinking of how she had accidentally scratched Aquos across the hand.

Looking at the Shinx and trying to focus enough to scratch it across the eye, the Sentret unleashed her Scratch attack.

Clavier was very excited to use his new attack in battle. He launched a Razor Leaf attack that the Shinx, apparently named Crescendo. Crescendo was expecting the attack. See, he was a very smart Shinx. He was bred from the most intelligent pokemon his owner could find. He saw the leaves come toward him and he just stood there. He stood his ground and suddenly a massive electrical Charge escaped from his body. The Charge made sparks jump along his body.

He stood in a defensive stance, holding it until the leaves hit him. They didn't do as much damage as you would've hoped, but they did some harm. Crescendo shook off the damage and then ran in right at Clavier! He slammed right into him, some of the electrical charge transferring through the Turtwig and into the ground. The sensation caused some light damage but the real damage was caused by the tackle. Clavier was getting serious now. He hopped right back up and gave a strong Tackle right into the Shinx. A few small bruises were apparent on Crescendo's body, but he'd survive.

Then Tempo went in.

She dove in to attempt another Fury Swipes and then a Scratch on the little Shinx's eyes. But she was hit from the side! Marcus the Poochyena had used Tackle and knocked Tempo off balance. Now she was pissed. She got up and started swiping at the dog furiously! She hit him one...two...three...four times! Each across the face! Marcus stumbled back but then snarled. He went in for another tackle but he stopped suddenly and kicked up some sand into Tempo's eyes.

Gah! Tempo does not like sand! She hopped forward and Scratched Marcus again, this time with more force and concentration. It was a stronger hit, but overall the Fury Swipes did more damage. Marcus and Tempo were staring at each other, waiting for the other to make another move. Well, this round was pretty good, you got in a solid hit on Crescendo and Tempo had learned Fury Swipes!

As the battle raged on, it was interrupted by a sudden beeping from the watch-like device on her arm. Slightly annoyed, Aquos turned to look at the pink device. It had referred to her as Leanne, which was rather amusing, considering that her name was in no means similar to it. It seemed that the Pokétech she took had once belonged to a girl like her … interesting. With a small smile, all and any annoyance she had previously felt within her system was dispelled, and she proceeded to read the message. It was about a weekly lottery; it was prompting her to buy it.

Without further ado, she credited 50$ into the device before inputting the numbers she desired to take a chance with into the contraption. It was slightly funky to use due to the screen and buttons, but Aquos managed alright. When she looked up from her momentary distraction, the turn had ended on a pretty good note for her team. However, she realized that when they were on a high like this, everything could potentially go wrong the next turn …

“Tempo, Scratch and Fury Swipes on Marcus – you don’t like him, since he’s making your eyes sting, remember?” she stated, watching the poor Sentret. Even though Tempo was a fighter, having sand in her eyes was definitely irritating. “Clavier, Tackle and then, try to use Razor Leaf at a close range.”

With that command given, she sat back and watched the next turn unfold at her … leisure?

Tempo was more than happy to scratch at Marcus. She didn't like dogs to begin with, and this one was a real meanie! She dove at him and Scratched hard at his face, and he recoiled in pain. "Marcus, retaliate! Use Tackle!" Marcus dove in for the Tackle, and hit Tempo pretty hard, again. She got back up, more angry than ever and went at him! She scratched him one...two...three...four...five times! Five painful scratches right to Marcus's eyes! The dog was reeling in pain! He staggered back a bit and you saw some blood on his face.

But enough about Marcus, Crescendo and Clavier were having a very exciting battle. Clavier, as per your orders, hopped in for a Tackle. Crescendo, an obviously strong and intelligent Pokemon, took the hit head on, and actually slammed into Clavier with a Tackle of his own! Both Pokemon were injured, but Clavier recovered from the surprise attack, and launched a close range Razor Leaf. The attack struck Crescendo in the face, but he turned his head so only the side of his face was hit. It was still a strong attack, and the side of his face was covered in small cuts.

Crescendo looked at Marcus, and Marcus at Crescendo. The two were having some sort of conversation. After a moment they each suddenly ran at both Clavier and Tempo. You Pokemon prepared their defenses, Clavier bracing for Crescendo's Tackle, and Tempo for Marcus's. Suddenly, at the last second, the two Pokemon switched targets, surprising everyone. Crescendo slammed into the confused Tempo, Marcus into the surprised Clavier.

Well, the dynamic of the battle had changed quite some bit. Clavier was now fighting Marcus, and Tempo was battling Crescendo. The two of them were wary of any more target switching tactics, and they were on their toes (well, Tempo was standing on her tail, but you get my point). You'd have to fight more carefully now, these opponents were clever fighters.
