Kijutsu is getting pretty popular for some odd reason. At least the city is big enough to hide in if you really want to be hidden. Although, not many Flying-types in the city. Sure, there's the common Pidgey that is seen everywhere but you won't find many here that wouldn't fly off at the first whiff of a Pokemon battle. Surely someplace like Nogou or something would've been a better starting point?

Well, by the by, you're here and looking around for something. There's a lot of junk to do in a city, just don't get your hopes up. There's shops to shop at, parks to train in, and at least a few shady areas that one could get anything. And I mean anything. As you glanced about to try and find something that would catch your attention, something lightly hit the back of your head. A couple of snickers echoed out and, if you turned to see who had throw the trash at you, you would find a group of three boys just a little younger than you. They didn't look too bright but they had a bad vibe about them. One stuck his tongue out at you and another, a black haired kid suddenly broke from the gang. He looked like he was going to prove himself worthy of a leadership position.

"Whatcha lookin at, moron? Wanna fight me? Huh?" he asked, shoving you back slightly. A growl rumbled from beside his leg and a slightly mean looking Poochyena glared up at you as well. You could throw a punch and hope the other two didn't jump in or challenge him and his pup to show him who's the top dog around here.

Taka regained his footing from the shove, suppressing a shudder and moving his gaze away from the smoggy skies of Kijutsu, searching for flying-types who seemed to all prefer a cleaner climate: he'd leave the moment he found a Razor Fang for Myo-kun, or perhaps the moment he realized finding one was far beyond his abilities. This was NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, how he had wanted his pokemon journey to begin – just when he began to go clean, the sludge was trying to pull him back in. (Then again, he supposed he should have expected nothing better until he left his wretched hometown - they called it the city of criminals for a reason.) He was a scrawny boy who had always relied on his Gligar – in the old days, he'd have them shoot dirt in their eyes and run for it, but what kind of a trainer would run from his first battle? Then again, shooting dirt in Poochyena's eyes – and his assailants, if they wanted something worse than a pokemon battle - was probably the best option.

“Honestly, I'd rather not, but I get the sense you won't take no for an answer.” Taka briefly glanced at the polluted ground before him. There was dirt and grime, the question was whether or not there would be enough for Gligar to get off a good sand attack or two. He looked at the younger boys, noting their visible impatience, and backed slowly away to what looked like the dirtiest part of the road. Once his position was secure, the blue-haired trainer reached into his deep pocket and gripped his starter's cold, metal home.

“Gligar, try a sand attack!” He said, pressing the button on his red and white, worn metal ball. In a flash of red light, the scarred purple batlike creature materialized on the ground in front of him. Heeding the trainer's orders, its scorpion tail kicked what dirt and grime it could pry up towards the Poochyena, hoping to hit its large yellow eyes.

The kid jumped off of the bin he was sitting on and stared at you as you and your Gligar began to get ready for battle. Seeing that you wouldn't back down was obviously not the kid had expected and he seemed a little less courageous as before.
"Oh...yeah okay lets get it on then...umm Poochyena you ready?" The kid yelled as he prepared himself for battle. Poochyena stepped beside his master and growled at your Gligar, trying to intimidate him.

Hopefully your trust in each other would be enough to keep you two working togethor in your very first battle. The first battle was always a shaky one as there is never a lot of trust between partners.

Onto the battle itself. Poochynena started to Howl. It was a long drawn out cry but after he seemed a bit stronger. He was certainly showing more confidence. That was until a large glob of sand and slime came soaring towards him and splattered all over him, sand getting caught in his eyes. As Poochyena roared in agony he nevertheless darted forward and attempted a Tackle although he was unfortunately hit the trashcan rather than your Gligar. Good start to the battle. Maybe next round you can launch an attack.

Taka sighed in relief at his opponent's meek voice and the non-intervention of his comrades – it seemed he was the kind of bully who could be dealt with by fighting back. Maybe they were even scared of him – scared of the confidence with which he ordered his pokemon, or perhaps unknowing that his Gligar was only level five. Hoping to scare the kid even further, he gave the Poochyena's trainer the scariest, most confident hawklike glare he could muster – combined with his strange, winged outfit, he hoped it would leave him wondering just what he was up against and quivering in terror.

He wasn't that worried about Myo-kun's trust in him – sure, it was their first real battle, but they had been on the streets together for a long time; it wasn't as though he had just grabbed a pokeball from the local professor. Then again, their exploits had been limited to sand attacks and escapes; the strain of a poison sting or a bit of damage might cause his pokemon to mutiny, for all he knew.

Taka had heard stories of sand attack after sand attack being used to make a pokemon so inaccurate that it couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, but the Poochyena already had sand in its eyes, and he couldn't see what good a little more would do when it was already tackling trash cans.

Myo-kun hadn't used the next move in years, and only in the most desperate of situations. Taka had been a thief, not an assassin, after all; he did what he could to survive, and although it wasn't exactly an honorable and socially productive position, he was proud to say that no one had died by his hands or his pokemon's claws.

Gligar were flying types, but this was misleading: their wings weren't for flapping, but for gliding, and he wouldn't be able to fight like a Pidgey, attacking from a height beyond the enemy's reach.

“Myo-kun, poison sting, then fly around a little!” Obedient for the time being, the flying-type spat a series of barbs towards the Poochyena's fur coat, then rode the wind forward and to the right, united with his trainer in the hope that his attack would hit something vital and poison the small canine.

In My Little White Room Again
A smirk appeared before your Gligar’s face, could it be that this relatively pleased that for once in such a long while that he would be able to participate in a battle by use a move other than the hackneyed attack know as Sand Attack? It would appear as so, for as you gave your commands the lilac creature failed to hesitate and immediately started to execute your orders. The being opened his mouth a wide, allowing numerous amethyst, poisoned coated barbs to fly at your opponent. Unfortunately, since your previous attack managed to almost entirely blind the opposing hound, well let’s just say that you made a direct hit – the barbs colliding with the fur that coated his chest and forelegs which was followed by a pain stricken howl from your adversary.

The breeze that encompassed your imaginary battle field regrettably was light, mainly because the lanky slate colored buildings that engulfed the city of Kijustu had blocked most of the air currents. Nonetheless, Gligar then took off into the sky that was thick with the acidy taste that was washed over this polluted city, and started gaining even more of an advantage over your earth bound opponent –despite the fact that he didn’t get vary high up.

Obviously, it’s impossible for a creature such a Poochyena to attack an opponent who is air born, so your opponent had lost a turn in his little skirmish. And if you were to look closer, this boy’s original look of being strenuous Kijustu inhabitant was washed away and replaced with the appearance of a child who feared for the outcomes that may befall on both himself and his Pokemon. But let's not forget that there is also the fact that the wind may die down at any time. So what shall the thief do next?

Taka fancied himself to be a fairly stoic person and he indeed kept up a display of emotionless calm throughout the vast majority of ordinary situations. A trainer's first real pokemon battle, however, was no ordinary situation. In a display more reflex than conscious action, the bird lover pumped his fist and gave a brief shout of “yes!” as the first volley of barbs connected painfully with his opponent's Poochyena.

Some days, the fates were in his favor. Someday, he imagined, he wouldn't need to rely on a friendly wind, for he'd have pokemon that created it themselves. (Of course, that wouldn't help much outside of double battles.) Then again, if the fates were completely in his favor, the Poochyena would already be showing signs of poisoning, and all Myo-kun would have to do would be to fly around a bit until his opponent fainted.

The battles Taka had read about in stories had trainers who changed up attacks regularly, often for no reason other than to look cool – sometimes, the old attacks were working better. Although he supposed a similar strategy would impress his opponent and the two friends of his that were still watching, winning would look even cooler. So there was only one thing to do.

“Myo-kun, until your opponent can get an attack in, keep using poison sting!”

His order given, Taka stared intently at the battle, a bit of nervousness creeping into his confident gaze. He hoped the wind would keep up, hoped Myo-kun wouldn't get scared, hoped his opponent wouldn't think of a way to fight back – for once in his life, he had found a situtation not of survival, but of winning or losing. And his competitive instincts had awakened: he truly wanted to win.

So far, your Gligar was riding the wind like a master. He launched plenty of Poison Stings at his foe, leaving enough spikes in him to injure someone, or something, if they get too close. Either way, Gligar was getting in plenty of attacks on his foe.

But, alas, the wind doesn't last forver. As Gligar descended to the ground, the foe's Poochyena crashed into Gligar, causing it to stumble over a couple times. Standing up, Gligar began to bound around the area, launching Poison Stings along the way.

"Aw'right, Poochyena," the boy shouted to his Pokemon. "Let's have you Howl then Tackle the Gligar!" After recieving his orders, the Poochyena picked its head up, front paws slightly parted, and howled to the sun as if it were a wolf on a full moon.

Once the howl was over, Poochyena took off after Gligar, who in turn fired another couple Poison Stings as Poochyena dashed. Poochyena crashed into your Myo-Kun, the extra Poison Spikes sticking out of him dealing slightly more damage than expected.

Taka, who had watched with a smile while the wind was in his favor, shifted into a look of concern as the Poochyena slammed into his batlike pokemon. For a couple moments, he hesitated, staring at his poketech and trying to think of a move. Sand attack hadn't blocked that tackle, and while Myo-kun had a large size advantage over his foe, from what he knew of pokemon wounds the attack had really, really hurt.

Much more than his Gligar's measly poison stings were doing, although the damage had added up so much that he probably still had the advantage. And worse, although the attacks had wounded the dark-type, they had also made fighting it uncomfortably similar to battling a porcupine. A porcupine with sharp teeth, decent speed and a trainer smart enough not to let it be flipped over. A poison sting in the eyes might hurt, as might another sand attack, but Poochyena relied far more on their sense of smell to detect their opponents - Taka couldn't see it doing any good.

Two more poison stings and Poochyena would probably survive. Two more tackles like that and Myo-kun was done for. He could lose – probably would lose, unless he thought of something fast; while he hesitated, his foe had recovered from his first tackle and was already preparing its next move.

If a little puppy could do that much damage by ramming someone, Taka could only imagine what a three-foot flying scorpion could do. In a physical fight, he should have the advantage – according to his poketech, Gligar were over twice as big and four times as heavy as the average poochyena.

Of course, size didn't always matter. And even if it did, his next attack could miss. He could still lose. But... he could also win.

Pointing forward with an excited, exaggerated flourish, his voice fresh with renewed confidence, the blue-haired trainer gave his command: “Myo-kun, belly flop!”

Myo-kun was a little nervous about using Belly Flop while Poochyena had those spikes sticking out of it. Maybe there was a way around that though. No one said he had to use the attack on Poochyena’s face. Myo-kun used what little wind there was to climb high enough to soar over Poochyena. If this attack worked, he might have a good chance of winning. If not…he’d probably get hurt. Myo-kun wasn’t looking forward to that, but…he thought he could pull this off.

The boy smiled. “That’s the way Poochyena! Use Howl again and then Tackle Gligar!” Nodding, Poochyena pointed its snout at the sky and Howled once more, further raising its attack power. Yikes, if this Tackle hit that could very well finish Myo-kun off! He was not out of the picture yet though, and while Poochyena was busy Howling he circled around, positioning himself right above Poochyena’s back.

Ha, perfect! Instead of waiting and letting Poochyena use Tackle, Myo-kun plopped his body onto Poochyena, his weight adding power to the attack. Poochyena’s Howl cut off on a strange, high pitched yip sort of sound. That attack was only a Belly Flop, not a Body Slam attack, but compared to Poochyena Myo-kun was so heavy. So yeah, that attack did quite a bit of damage. Not quite enough to knock out Poochyena, but enough that it was too stunned to get up and use Tackle as planned.

Huh…maybe if you could pull something like this off next round you could win.

“Good job, Myo-kun!” Taka said, impressed by his own pokemon's ingenuity and skill. He had expected the belly flop, but not one which relied on the wind, not one so perfectly executed – heck, he wasn't even all that convinced it would hit!

Taka considered himself fairly street smart from his youth spent on the crime-filled roads of Kijutsu. He could tell a con man from a friendly stranger nine times out of ten, he knew all the back alleys in town, knew which ones were safe to hide in and which ones he should avoid.

This acquisition of knowledge, however, had come at a price: he had not had the chance to study pokemon like an ordinary boy his age (although considering his outfit alone, Taka was anything but ordinary) and was embarassed to admit he had no idea why his opponent spent his time howling in the middle of a fight.

Luckily, his poketech had all the answers, and a quick glance showed that the Poochyena's howling was a method of raising its attack power He couldn't fathom just how that loud, somewhat chilling sound could make a tackle hurt more, but he couldn't understand how an Aerodactyl could fly either; what mattered was that it hurt more, not why.

The way that Poochyena was howling, Myo-kun probably couldn't take another hit. The way his opponent was staggering, Poochyena couldn't either.

If the stories he read were any guide, samurai duels had often ended with the two combatants rushing past each other, then one of them collapsing in a delayed reaction to the faster swordsman's cut. He imagined this battle would end in a somewhat similar fashion. Of course, he had imagined his previous pokemon's command as a head-on flop which left Myo-kun full of his own poisonous barbs – it had gone better than he expected, so much better, but also so very different.

As far as Taka could tell, things were looking good. If this did turn out to be a contest of speed, Myo-kun had a definite advantage.

“Give it your quickest strike and finish that Poochyena off!”

Gligar was quite the pokemon in its own right. It was fast, agile, intelligent, and rather poisonous. They were especially good battlers who, with ingenuity, can orchestrate a win for their trainers. It appeared that in this instance it would be no different. However it wouldn't be wise to count the Poochyena out just yet; he did have a small trick up his sleeve that would probably hurt your Gligar considerably.

As your Gligar went in for that final strike, Poochyena jumped into the air and delivered a body-slam.. well not a real body slam, but he promptly fell on your Gligar. Now that your pokemon was out of the air-currents, you were now in a big spot of trouble: Gligar couldn't move. Poochyena had Gligar at its' mercy and promptly began to wrend open your Gligar piece by piece, wound by wound and was about to finish it when your Gligar had the great fortune to stick the Poochyena with its' poisionous barb, ending it once and for all. Good riddance is undoubtedly what you're thinking right now.

Now that Poochyena was down and out of the count, it was time for you to either let it alone or capture it and make it the newest addition to your team.

Normally, a pokemon's first victory would be cause for celebration. Although the pokemon might be battered, they would usually be elated even in exhaustion, instead of merely relieved to have survived. Of course, usually the victor wasn't down to 1 HP and bleeding to unconsciousness from its opponents savage onslaught – or perhaps even to death. Dark types had a well-deserved reputation for brutality, after all.

“Myo-kun, I'm so sorry. You fought well. Rest up – I'll do my best to get you healed up before its too late.” Taka said, concern in his voice as he rushed over to his bleeding pokemon, gave it a soft pat on the head, then shot a glare at his opponent for his pokemon's latest onslaught – perhaps an unwarranted one. The goal of a battle was to win, and that body slam and mauling, however savage, was also the best strategy available to his opponent at the time. But Taka saw his gligar on the ground, bleeding, and in his panicked state he thought nothing of his own opponent's concern for his knocked-out poochyena, nothing for the fact that it was simply how battles worked.

He wasn't that concerned with the prize money: the kid looked poor, poor enough that he wouldn't have anything worth taking. Maybe in some gesture of integrity or admiration the kid would give him some cash despite him running away from the battlefield, perhaps when they met up at the pokemon center, and Taka could certainly use the money.

He had dreams, after all. Not just the big ones about catching legendaries, but he had always wanted to soar on a Pidgeot, or to save up enough for a Razor Fang and give Myo-kun the chance to evolve. Save up: evolutionary items were rare and expensive, and he couldn't steal one even if he He wasn't sure if Kijutsu was the best place to do this, and besides, there was something appealing about seeing the world. When he got to the pokemon center, if he didn't have a funeral to go to, he'd find a map (or maybe there was one in his poketech – that thing was full of surprises), figure out what he should do with his life, and start things out by hunting down a Pidgey. Maybe it'd be a local one, although they seemed to shy away from combat, or maybe he'd find one in some far-off land beyond the horizon, who had lived its life in pollution-free skies.

But first, he had a pokemon center to reach. Dropping the pokeball into his shirt pocket, the flying specialist darted through the familiar streets of Kijutsu, taking the fastest route he knew and praying he'd make it there safely. The way Myo-kun was doing, he didn't have time to be robbed.

(As an aside, that was a trained Poochyena my characters defeated, not a wild one. Or at least it was taking orders from a trainer in the first couple posts, though the trainer didn't get much mention in the latter half of the battle – my fault as much as anyone's.)

So, you had won a battle...but it was a close call. So, you were quickly recalling your companion and heading off. The hustle and bustle of the City would capture your senses, but there would be no slowing you. Shadowy alleyways littered the city, each with their own chance of danger, while the bright streets of Kijutsu offered a safe haven, and you were quite content with the safety of the populated streets.

The Pokemon center? Well, it wasn't very far away...and as you neared it, you'd spot people moving in an out of the busy building. One man walking with a Meowth on his shoulder, the young Meowth having a bandage on one of his paws, a face of winced pain obvious. Another girl would walk by, up towards the Pokemon Center with her knocked out Vulpix laying within her arms. THere was a lot of healing happening at this place, and you'd go in with no troubles...heck, suprisingly the wait wasn't that long. And as the Nurse behind the counter took the Pokeball and healed your Companion in a timely manner, you'd be ready to continue adventure...but a voice behind you would capture your attention of course, if you didn't ignore it that was.

"Hey there!" It was the boy you had just battled, the owner of the Poochyena. He looked very disappointed and quite sad, but continued speaking. He obviously was new to training, or just really bad as he had barely been able to order his Poochyena. "Battling you made me finally realize that I'm not cut out for being a trainer...but you are." He'd give you a smile, as he complimented you...hoping you wouldn't be rude back to him.

"My battle with you, has made me decide to head back home, and help my father run his store. Me and Poochyena are gonna catch a ride over there." He dragged on for a moment, almost like he wasn't able to get to the point of what he was trying to say, but patience is a virtue. "Anyway...the Point is, I want you to have my other Pokemon, I think it will be in good hands with you." And without a warning, he'd reach forward and hand you a Pokeball. The Red and White Sphere was placed in your hand, and well...you had no idea what Pokemon it was. Until it was, that he grabbed a bag of what appeared to be bird seed out from his back pocket. "This is her favorite food...it'll make her happy." He'd open the little bag up and take some food out. Then, a quick toss into the air and the Pokeball that now sat in your hand would burst open and a red and white streak of lighting would soon form into the shape of a winged Pokemon that quickly ate upon the seed..floating in the air.

A glance of apologetic sympathy crossed Taka's face as he listened to the younger boy give up on pokemon training – had he done that to him? Then again, as much as it hurt to give up on one's dream, he supposed not everyone dreamed of pokemon mastery, and he surely wouldn't stop battling after one loss! And he felt bad, felt awful. For misjudging him as a street kid like he used to be, for acting like he was being forced into battle, for that look he gave him when his Poochyena tore into Myo-kun – it was just part of the fight.

If it was the loss. That Poochyena did a lot of damage, but during the later parts of the battle, it seemed completely out of control – was his opponent even shouting orders? Taka had been so focused on his Gligar and the sound of the wind that he might've just missed it – no, that was impossible. He'd remember.

“Thanks, kid. What's her name?” He asked, giving his defeated foe and new Pidgey alike a rare smile, then taking the bag of birdseed to offer a small handful to the brown-and-white bird. “And I suppose I should know yours, as well.”

He waited for him to answer, then inquired politely about the store, but he was saving all his money for an item almost certainly beyond his price range, so barring something extremely intriguing he wouldn't pay it a visit. Two pokemon were plenty for a trainer just starting out – heck, it might be plenty for the whole of his journey; it seemed better to have a couple strong pokemon than six weak ones.

Now, it was time for him to train. Thieves were always a risk, but he thought himself pretty good at avoiding them, and travel didn't appeal to him that much. He'd walk around the city, looking for novice trainers or wild pokemon – it was for the experience, although it wasn't like he'd pass up a chance to make some honest money either.

A Razor Fang would make the perfect gift for Myo-kun, after all. Once he could afford it.

The boy was very polite to you. 'No, she doesn't have a name, you can choose one for her if you like, " he said in answer to your question. The Pidgey chirped in approval and ate out of your hand merrily, she shaw was a chipper little thing wasn't she? The boy smiled "My name's Kyle, my father's shop is nothing much, sort of like a small second hand shop. It still gets alot of business though, well, I have to go now, see you later." He gave the Pidgey a final pat on the head telling her to be good for you and then he left to what seemed like a bus depot.

So now you were strolling the streets with your newly acquired friend looking for some form of job. It was a useful and somewhat strategic manoeuver in order to earn you some money, but in a town such as Kijutsu the jobs range anywhere from frindly shop clerk to demonic gang leader. Every job that seemed only the tiniest bit interesting was already taken by the time you reached the business, and so you trudged on. You finally decided to check the notice board that was on the current street corner, to your luck their were three notices all of which seemed to be part of the street you were on. First of which was for a trash collector:

Keep the streets of Kijutsu clean! All equipment supplied to you, pokmeon are welcome to participate in it. $40 for a full days work with lunch breaks. Apply at the Kijustsu Trainers Club, ask to speak to Marcus.

That was just a few doors down. It seemed nice, all you had to do was pick up trash, there was a simple task. The second job notice was for an assisstant:

Assistant wanted, young or old. Finding it hard to run the shop by myself, feel free to apply if you feel you are able. $30 for a days work is all I can afford to pay. Apply at the Happy Sunkern Bakery. ~ Julia

A job at a bakery, that would have benefits, working with sweet pastries and savoury delights. My mouth waters at the thought, I assume yours would too. The third and final notice was quite suspisious looking:

The Armardlo Guild needs a compotent supplier. They will be in charge of delivery of goods to and from the guild. Paid depending on how good you do and whether the goods arrive safely. Apply at the Shady Soul Café.

That certainly was very suspisious. But there are three open jobs, of course you could continue looking or enqire about one of these. It was entirley up to you, so what shall it be?

(Just as an extra note, I do not care what happens to these characters so please don't make it a plot, its just a continuation of a story.)
