So it's raining. Yeah, it's raining. You are near the ocean, a little rain couldn't hurt, right? Well, this is how your first step in Alternia is going to start: with rain. C'est la vie, mon ami? Yes, I speak French. What of it punk? Eh hem, well let's see what we could do in the glorious rain. Well, there's the shop you're standing in front of since you are hiding hiding under the awning from the rain. If you glanced up, the sign would read 'Millenia PokeMart'. Well, it wasn't so unusual but maybe Drifloon would like something?

At that moment, a particulary power gust of wind blew by. Thankfully Drifloon was safely in his Poke ball at the moment or you would be chasing after a flailing balloon. As you stood huddled under the awning, a girl came running up and stood under it with you. It looked like she had been crying but the only evidence of this was just her red eyes. She wiped at her face quickly and sniffled loudly. She was about your age and soaking wet from the rain. In one hand, she held a dripping wet sketchbook.
Silence is merely another language.

Athan continued to think about a nickname for his new Houndour as he walked through the streets of Millenia Town, soon finding himself leaving the limits of the town. He figured that now he could think in peace, there was no longer anybody around to disturb him. He glanced up at the sky, taking full attention away from where he was going back into his thoughts about the nickname for Houndour as that did seem extremely important at the moment; everybody needs a name after all. Lemme see...Fang...lame and too basic...um...I've got nothing. Athan turned his attention back on the road....but it was too late. He felt something bump into him and he then collapsed to the ground in shock. What the- Athan thought looking dead ahead, he had accidentally bumped into somebody on the road.

Athan was ready to lash out insults to the other person that he had bumped into upon realization that he had fallen to ground. But when the guy started to speak about the incident in he Pokémon Center, he quickly calmed down for now. Athan listened quietly too his story, he hadn't see the guy in the Pokémon Center when the incident occured but when he made a reference to the Pokémon known as Flairamander he got even more interested. He must be talking about Blaze and that big raptor thing that was with him, so its called a Flairamander eh. Athan thought. He looked at the guy once more and heard something about a Pokémon known as Sparkardy which he said was the first form of the 'Flairamander'. Athan began to wonder if Burnokoa, the Pokémon that he had battled with in the basement was part of the evolution line as well, the three Pokémon bore a resemblance.

Athan took a quick glance at a photo that the guy, Eric, had given to him and passed it back. Now that he knew what the Pokémon looked like he figured that he would check it out in person and maybe even draw himself a picture or two of it. Athan grabbed Eric's hand and stood up off the ground and heard his request for a battle. Athan still did not like battles all that much, despite finding himself in them back to back...oh well he had to repay the favor to Eric for his advice somehow. Besides if he battled Eric he might get to see his 'Sparkardy' in person. "Today's your lucky day Eric, I accept your challenge for a battle...by the way the name is Athan." Athan responded, introducing himself as well.

"Athan, alright then, if you can beat this guy, I'll let you have the honor of battling the Sparkardy I caught."

Taking a few steps back to form the battle area, he sent out his first Pokemon. He did say he was a fire trainer, right? This should be interesting. If my big wisdom tells me right.... you've only got a Marill to counter with, and said Marill was no water attacks....

"Go, Vulpix!" He called out, throwing a Great Ball.

In a flash of red light, an -equally- red fox Pokemon. It yawned, and spout out a little flame while doing so.

:vulpix Lv 4 :female
Attacks: Ember, Tail Whip, Energy Ball

Oh, that's lovely. It has an egg move on it, being Energy Ball. Looks like not even Marill will be of much help here.... Then again, it's only Lv 4. Power should be able to knock it down for the most part. Hey, maybe this would be a good chance to test out that rented Pokemon you got to keep, and maybe spit out a nickname for it whil your at it.

Eric didn't look like a new trainer, so this Vulpix may or may not just be something he caught more recently. Well, he DID say you'd only need to defeat one. He's probably giving you a good chance. and trying to raise a weak member of his team at the same time. Hey, win/win situation for the both of you, right?

Battle!

Athan looked at Eric as he stepped back to make more room to battle, he began to wonder what kind of Pokémon he would be using out on the battle field and instantly got an idea though he decided to keep his thoughts quiet. Athan remained completely silent, not uttering a word to Eric especially when he spoke about giving him the honor of battling his Sparkardy. To tell you the truth...the Pokémon would be having the honor of battling me. Athan thought snobbishly. Athan watched Eric's motions carefully and looked at the Pokémon he sent out, a Vulpix, a Pokémon that he didn't have in his sketchbook.

Athan rubbed his chin and thought for a moment. So this is a Vulpix eh, I am pretty sure I don't have one in my sketchbook so before I send out a Pokémon to battle...I will get me a quick drawing. Athan then quietly pulled out one of his sketchbooks and a pencil that he used for sketching. "Sorry Eric but you see I am a Pokémon Watcher as well as a trainer so when I see a new Pokémon I naturally draw it." Athan told the opposing trainer. He took a quick glance at the fox Pokémon on the ground as it yawned and spat out a flame, Athan quickly began to draw the Pokémon as he saw it and slammed his sketchbook shut. Athan quickly put the sketchbook away and looked up towards Eric and smirked.

"Well Eric lets get this show on the roll shall we?" Athan questioned. He searched around his belt, wiping his early smirk off his face. He was planning on using Houndour to finish up the battle quickly...but since Vulpix was a fire-type Pokémon he would have a problem using Houndour, plus he was getting rather bored of using fire-type Pokémon in battle and wanted to give his other Pokémon a chance to get out a battle and instantly he reached a thought...he should use Sakura, his Smeargle; after all she hasn't battled before...but then again their was a problem, the only move Sakura knew was Sketch and he would have to copy one of the opponents moves which would put a huge stall on the battle...plus they would only have one move to work with. After a moment of thinking Athan finally decided what Pokémon he would use; it wouldn't be Houndour, Sakura, or Uindo his Drifloon...he would be using Marlo his Marill once more. Athan snatched Marlo's Pokeball off of his belt and tossed it to the ground. "Let's go Marlo! Start the battle with Tackle!" exclaimed Athan pointing towards Vulpix.

Well..... let's not go with my sugestion then... Ah well, I won't be mean.. or will I? Nah, just fooling ya.

--

"Alright Vulpix, let's give it a Tail Whip to start out with!" Eric said to his little fox.
Tail Whip... well, not that drastically bad. Atleast he didn't murder you with a Energy Ball on the first movement, right?

Marill obeyed his trainer's command and started runnign for his Tackle attack. The little fire type Vulpix also dashed for her attack, running at the Marill. I smell a collision coming... and chicken wings...

Well, the stronger attack hitting first, Marill rammed it's round head into the oncoming Vulpix. Taking a good hit, it fell back a foot or two, and slowly got back up. Regaining it's center of gravity, it pounced for the Marill, then spun at the end to assault it with it's many tails. Well, with all those repetitive hits, that should have hurt; if only those tails weren't 99% fluff.... But hey, it managed to make the Marill stagger, sending her Defense down 1. Nothing a quick Defense Curl couldn't cure, right? Too bad Energy Ball happens to be a special attack, or the best thing to do would be Defense Curl your brains out, then tackle the little fox into submission while you wore a steel wall of defense... Then again, that'd take a loooong time....

Damage wise..... alot of nothing happened this turn.. Doesn't help when your Pokemon can only do 4 damage with each attack, huh? And there's still that Energy Ball to worry about... Attacks being delt, the two opponent Pokemon dashed back to their trainers to await their next orders... What level does Marill learn something good, again? Tail Whip at 7, Water Gun at 10.... starting this little ball of joy off will be a slight difficulty, huh?

Athan looked at Marlo as the battle begun, he actually wondered if she would be able to take this battle and make it a win. He hoped she could, last time they were in a battle Marlo somewhat ignored his commands and almost lost. He let out a sigh, maybe he had made the wrong choice when choosing her for this battle. Maybe he had made the wrong choice for choosing for his team in the first place; Athan had only caught Marlo because she looked cute, that was something he wouldn't normally do, in fact Athan normally didn't catch Pokemon unless they agreed to be on his team...even though Marlo somewhat did. Athan then snapped back to his senses and noticed that the battle had commenced, Eric had made his move to, using a Tail Whip.

A Tail Whip? Eric I thought you were going pull out something cool. Athan thought. He didn't know why but he thought this battle was going to be extraordinarily strange, then again all of his battles so far had been strange. He watched Marlo then begin to move, she was following his commands this time thankfully and hit the Vulpix. Athan then winced as Vulpix slapped his small Marill with her many tails, yeah that probably felt just like a wet backhand to the head...only that Vulpix was a fire-type.

Well it was time for Athan to come up with a new plan, the first round was a loud of bull stuff and he had to come up with something great. Maybe he should make up for the lack of defense he had now on Marlo's side, there wasn't really much that he could do with the limited amount of moves that he had. "Alright Marlo lets go: Defense Curl then go in with a Tackle!" commanded Athan. His plan was to create a new all of defense for his Marill and then charge in with a new steely tackle, although that would probably mean using Defense Curl every turn which could hunker down Marlo's energy.

"...That little girl of your doesn't have much battle potency, huh? Well, let's finish her up now. 'Least she'll get experience win or lose, right? Vulpix, Energy Ball! Tail Whip it again if it survives the hit."

Hm... Tackle and Defense Curl..... Would have never guessed that'd be your move combo. Well, the small mouse Pokemon tightented every muscle in it's body and curled into a small-er- ball, boosting back it's Defense out of the -1 zone. That's good, but Defense doesn't help much with what your about to be with with. The Vulpix sucked in, then gathered green energy in front of her mouth. After the energy finished streaming from the air and earth, it formed into a small, pulsating green ball. Green = Grass type in almost every case, and this didn't look like a good thing. Letting out her breath in a blasting motion, the ball blasted for the Marill. As she was preparing to use Tackle, she was late in avoiding it. She managed to slide out of the imediate path of the ball, but it exploded once it was in range of her. Marill was thrown back, all the way to Athan's feet.

Struggling to get back up, she pushed through, and ran up to the Vulpix, ramming her head into the fox Pokemon at the last second. Little survivor, ain't she? Seeing as how the Energy Ball didn't take Marill down completely, Vulpix jumped over her, and spun to preform a Tail Whip once again. With Marill's defense back up, she managed to avoid alot of damage, but her defense fell once again after the attack was over. Doesn't look like she can take another one of those Energy Balls, but would it be smarter to switch, or let her faint and reap the losing EXP for her? Your choice.

Then again, one Energy Ball did take up alot of energy... Maybe her using it once more on Marill could be to your own advantage, anyway?

Athan sighed, he should have guessed that Marlo would have been a bad choice for a battle. Now he knew what he had to do, Athan's new lifestyle could no longer support having Marlo on his team so he would most likely have to trade her away. He had to admit, he didn't even catch her for battling purposes anyway so it would make perfect since to give her a better owner and a better friend than he could be to her anyway. He watched silently as Marlo performed Defense Curl, Athan's eyes then widened in shock when Vulpix suddenly began to use an unfamiliar attack.

"What kind of attack is that?" Athan asked himself out loud, he had never seen anything like it. He knew Marlo most likely would not be able to dodge it plus the attack also struck him as a grass-type move, how in the world would Vulpix be able to use such an attack? It was beyond the Pokemon Watcher/Trainer as he had yet to have that much experience in the 'trainer' part of his profession. He watched as Marlo could only take the attack and things didn't look pretty good for her. That was when Athan decided that he had enough of watching Marlo suffer on the battle, he was going to switch and call out another Pokemon for her sake.

"Marlo, return." Athan spoke calmly, pulling out her Pokeball and recalling her. He had another Pokemon in mind, he was going to use his Drifloon: Uindo. He hadn't used his Drifloon in battle for awhile and as a matter of fact the young balloon Pokemon hadn't been out of his Pokeball since before he was accepted into the Red Crew. Now would be some perfect exercise for the energetic Pokemon, he released Uindo from the Pokeball. "Alright Uindo lets do this use Constrict and then ram it!" Athan exclaimed. So basically he told Uindo to use the attack Constrict to keep Vulpix in place for awhile and then he was going to use a make-shift Belly Flop, he was slightly concerned though due to what happened last time he used Uindo's Constrict in a battle with a fire-type Pokemon. But this was Uindo, his best friend, he was thinking about.

Hm.. This seemed like a better plan, yes?

"A ghost type, huh? Well then, Vulpix, use Ember!" Eric commanded.

The balloon Pokemon floated out to the battle field, raising his 'strings' in preparation to strike. Vulpix created the fire balls in her mouth, and was about to launch them when Uindo's strings started wrapping around her, closing off the fire before too much of it could escape. He fully wrapped around her, then lifted her into the air. Pulling back, he bashed his balloon body into her.

Now, if he was a Geodude, that would have hurt. but weighing under 5 pounds, his balloon body didn't hurt her that much. Now, the constrict did some pretty damage, possibly a critical hit, but the belly flop did no more then maybe 2 HP. Maybe, if this strategy is repeated next turn, with the changing out of Belly Flop for the STAB Astonish, it would do better, no?

"Ha, look at that. I might have to take Sparkardy out just to save my Vulpix from fainting... Your not bad, huh?"

Well.... If he did that, it would save us alot of trouble, huh? But about that Energy Ball from before..... It WAS a pretty powerful Grass type move, and on a fire type, Grass type moves give them an edge over their water and ground type enemies, as Athan saw in his battle against the blue people.

Athan knew that he had made no mistake when switching Marlo out for Uindo. Uindo was his best friend and Athan had no doubt that he would be able to pull the battle off, besides he had already beaten down the Vulpix and Uindo was still full of life at the moment so he didn't feel as if he had a lot to worry about. Athan however was completely baffled when he discovered that the improvised Belly Flop somewhat little to nothing to the Vulpix, he had to remember how much his Pokemon weighed or else he would risk other hopeless attacks like that in the next upcoming round. Athan let out a quick sigh, watching as things played out that round and to get specific they seemed good for him, still however Athan had to think about the Energy Ball attack in which almost took out Marlo in the previous round, he had to make sure Uindo didn't take such a terrible hit from that powerful grass-type move.

Uindo however took a slight amount of damage that time around but Athan ignored it and decided to continue on with the battle. Athan rubbed his chin glancing up towards the sky, he had to come up with a successful plan this time around, Uindo would probably only be able to keep Vulpix down for so long so he had to be quick. Then it came to him, Uindo had acquired a new move known as Astonish during their travels, Athan decided to repeat his previous combination and use the move Astonish first instead of Belly Flop...which he discovered wasn't a good attack for the previous round as it caused very little damage to Vulpix.

"Alright Uindo lets be quick about this! Use Astonish and follow it up with Constrict!" Athan called, his plan was now set into motion, all he had to worry about for this round was another strong attack from Eric and the possibility that the opposing trainer might call out his Sparkardy to take down Uindo. At that point in the battle Athan hoped that his foe didn't call out Sparkardy, if the small salamander like Pokemon was anything like its evolved forms it would certainly provide a tight spot for any battle.

Well, this seemed like a much better idea. Even though Constrict and Astonish were pretty weak moves, STAB bonuses and level differences made all the...... well, differences.

"Vulpix! Fire off an Ember to get out of the constrict, then shoot an Energy Ball at the balloon thing!"

Yeah. Great. Another Energy Ball. Well, let's see how things play out.

The Vulpix struggled untill it's mouth was unwrapped, and shot flaming embers in the only direction she could; Straight up. Shooting up right infront of his face, but not hitting him, Uindo was started, and lost his grip on the small fox. As it began to power up an Energy Ball, Uindo shot forward, and smashed it in the side as hard as he could, blasting a small amount of ghostly energy with it. Vulpix jumped back some and skidded to a stop, but had flinched and lost the attack. Going in for the kill, Uindo shot his strings forward, and swiftly wrapped the Vulpix once more.

With the levels being what they were, Vulpix was squeezed to about almost unconsiousness. She'd probably only last another turn at most.

Then again, it's best it works this way, so most of your power can go into battling that Sparkardy of his. From what it sounded like, it was no push over.

Athan let out a groan as Eric called for another Energy Ball, that attack completely wiped his last Pokemon out so he wondered what kind of effect the attack would have on Uindo. Uindo was at a higher level and was stronger than Marlo his Marill therefore he didn't expect the attack to harm him too much even if it hit anyway. Athan watched as Eric's strategy played out, but not in his favor, Vulpix managed to fire an Ember attack but not in the direction that was needed and it completely missed Uindo. Athan was quite sure that the battle was in the bag anyway when Uindo hit Vulpix, Athan expected for Energy Ball to come right out...but thanks to the Astonish the fire fox had flinched. After Uindo had wrapped Vulpix with his strings Athan declared the battle won, for his final act he wouldn't waste too much of Uindo's energy as he needed to battle Sparkardy.

"Alright Uindo lets wrap up this last round with another Astonish, keep the Vulpix wrapped in your clutches as well!" Athan commanded. Things were looking up and Athan was confident that Vulpix was done, now he had to focus his concentration on the Sparkardy which he knew was coming out. From his past experiences with its evolved forms he knew that the Pokemon would give him a hard time, he hoped that Uindo will be able to handle it though as the balloon Pokemon's last battle with a strong fire-type ended in complete turmoil and Uindo had to recalled for safety.

Athan gave one last look towards Eric and only thought one thing: Send out Sparkardy.... Athan not only wanted to battle the lizard-like Pokemon but he wanted to get a good sketch of it. He was also a Pokemon Watcher as well as trainer and he had to collect his photos of cool Pokemon, that was just what artist like him do and besides there was no way for him to know when he would see a Sparkardy again so he had to draw one while it was his chance.

(*bow bow* Soooorry for the wait, other duties were calling. And it sucks when people borrow your crap -.- )

"Vulpix! Try another Energy Ball before it takes you out!"

That was Eric's probably last command for Vulpix, but it wasn't any the less more dangerous. Vulpix struggled against the Constriction as it did it's slow damage, and wraggled itself free after some good energy was put into it. Stepping back, it began to charge another Energy Ball, while Uindo prepared for Astonish. Still, the quicker move hitting first, Uindo plowed into Vulpix from the side, causing her to fire the attack before it could finish.

Endurance drained, she toppled over, K-Oed. Being recalled, Eric began to announce his next move.

"Well, a deal's a deal! Come on out, Sparkardy!"

And then it appeared: A small orange lizard with two fires flaming on it's back, and one at the tip of it's tail. It yawned, then looked at the battle with focused eyes.

"Sparkardy, Flame Wheel!"

Giving out a small cry of acknowledgement, the Sparkardy flared it's fires to twice the size they rested at, and jumped as if to pounce on Uindo. At the last second, it curled itself, and in doing so, making a wheel of fire. Once back to the ground, the Sparkardy blasted forward, and smashed it's flaming body into the small balloon. It ended the attack by uncurling, and did so that at the last moment, it's tail caught Uindo while it flipped, and sent the balloon flying over the lizard.

"Just to be fair, I think I'll let you use two Pokemon against my Sparkardy, to cover for the level differences. Go on, send someone else out, too. This'll be fun."

This Sparkardy was good. Very good.

Athan could only sigh at Eric's last attempt to take over the battle, he already knew that the battle was won and that there was nothing more that his Vulpix could do to stop him. After Vulpix was knocked out by Uindo, Athan formed a small smirk on his face. It was now time for him to see Eric's Sparkardy in person and he couldn't wait. The Pokemon Watcher and trainer pulled out his sketchpad and pencils once again, anticipating the Pokemon's appearance from the Pokeball. Athan looked at the ground as Sparkardy exploded from his Pokeball and hit the ground, immediately he began to draw the four-legged lizard Pokemon. "This is a rare opportunity." Athan said under his breath, however his drawing was cut short by an attack from Eric.

Athan looked up from his sketchpad and his mouth dropped open in surprise. The Sparkardy unleashed a mighty Flame Wheel attack which hit Uindo and flipped him over its body, it was no joke, this battle wasn't going to be easy. Athan put away his art supplies ready to begin battling against the Sparkardy, he reopened his mouth to call out an command for Uindo when Eric spoke out to Athan. "Two Pokemon to meet your one?" Athan questioned Eric. "I would be an idiot not to take that offer." Athan reached for his belt and took a Pokeball from it, he might use his Smeargle for this round but...she wasn't all that strong and she didn't know any good battle moves. There was only one real choice, Athan would use his newly acquired Houndour.

"Alright Houndour get in the battle!" Athan shouted tossing Houndour's Pokeball onto the ground. Houndour was at a higher level than the enemy Sparkardy anyway so it could possibly make up for the strength he was lacking by using Uindo, he just hoped that Houndour had the strength to match that of Sparkardy's or else this battle would be a blow out. Athan took one last glance towards the enemy Sparkardy, at least he might have a chance at winning the battle.

"Well, it looks like fire attacks are out against that Houndour. Sparkardy, Flame Wheel to the Drifloon, and Tackle to the Houndour!"

The Sparkardy balled up again, and spewed it's flames into the wheel-like shape from before. Speeding at Drifloon, it prepared it's attack. Houndour, however, was smart. It jumped between the Sparkardy and Drifloon at the very last minute, and took the attack. But, thanks to his nice little ability, instead of doing damage, the attack was absorbed, and added to his own fire power. Jumping back down, the Sparkardy did a quick Tackle, and stepped back quickly. That was not excpected....... By either trainers, it looks like.

Houndour sniffed the air proudly, situating itself as the stronger fire type on the field. And this would be completely true, if the attacks the Sparkardy and dark dog shared were switched. But, what Houndour had in level, Sparkardy had under it's belt in skills. Even if these skills wouldn't work against Houndour. This could turn out interestiiiing.......

Driflloon nodded to it's teammate, obviously thankful for the save. Eric now began to think if letting you use two Pokemon to one was such a good idea.... But, it didn't matter much now. All three Pokemon eagerly waited to receive their next instructions, wanting to get back into the battle quickly.

"Well... That was a smart move on your part. A well trained team is a good thing to have, if you plan on coming with me after this battle is up. You've proved to be a fairly well battler, I think it's a good idea to show you where I found this little freind of mine" Eric patted the Sparkardy, suprisingly not phased by the flames he put his hands through.

"If you can beat my Sparkardy, I'll do more then just show you the way. I'll come up there, with you. There's something I wanna check out, anyway."

Ooh, another good reason to win. This Eric guy probably knows more then he's saying, but that'll pass in time. Right now, win this battle, and we go on an adventure! Yay!

Athan was feeling a bit confident that the outcome of the battle would be good for him. He had a smart Houndour that could as a impassable shield for all fire-type attacks that Sparkardy through out and his Drifloon Uindo was...a pretty cool Pokemon as well. After Sparkardy's unexpected attack however Athan decided that it was once again time to go on the offensive coming up with another battle plan. "Houndour use Leer and then follow up with a Tackle!" Athan commanded Houndour "And Drifloon use Constrict around Sparkardy's legs but be aware of its fire-type attacks!" Athan yelled. He was certainly beginning to enjoy battling even more than he used to now, things were becoming more and more exciting by the minute, Athan just hoped that Sparkardy had no secret aces like Vulpix did.

However when Athan heard Eric's request he got a bit more determined; Athan wanted to observe and possibly capture wild Sparkardy, having somebody show him directly where they were would make the adventure less tough on him. Athan at the same time though wasn't too thrilled to hear that Eric had his own personal business to attend to when they went to go look for him a Sparkardy, if Eric took to long checking out whatever he needed to check out Athan would leave him behind. Athan changed his focus from the future back to the battle. He was dealing with a formidable opponent and couldn't afford to get sidetracked by anymore of Eric's words, he would have to worry about those things after the battle was over.

Athan looked at Sparkardy, he had no idea what the flaming lizard would do next and he had no idea what exactly Eric had up his sleeve. If Eric could pull out amazing moves from his Vulpix there was no telling what the small Sparkardy had in store, Athan wouldn't even be surprised if the small lizard grew wings and flew away. Athan looked at Houndour and then to Uindo, he hoped that they would be able to defend well in the battle or else his dreams at obtaining his own Sparkardy were done.
