So it's raining. Yeah, it's raining. You are near the ocean, a little rain couldn't hurt, right? Well, this is how your first step in Alternia is going to start: with rain. C'est la vie, mon ami? Yes, I speak French. What of it punk? Eh hem, well let's see what we could do in the glorious rain. Well, there's the shop you're standing in front of since you are hiding hiding under the awning from the rain. If you glanced up, the sign would read 'Millenia PokeMart'. Well, it wasn't so unusual but maybe Drifloon would like something?

At that moment, a particulary power gust of wind blew by. Thankfully Drifloon was safely in his Poke ball at the moment or you would be chasing after a flailing balloon. As you stood huddled under the awning, a girl came running up and stood under it with you. It looked like she had been crying but the only evidence of this was just her red eyes. She wiped at her face quickly and sniffled loudly. She was about your age and soaking wet from the rain. In one hand, she held a dripping wet sketchbook.
Silence is merely another language.

The cry before | The lull during | The silence after

Why does it have to be raining now? I don't like the rain, this is a load of crap. Athan mentally complained as he stood under the PokeMart, attempting to shield himself from the rain. He glanced at the town around him and let out a small sigh as a gust of wind blew by; knowing how a Drifloon would have been blown away in the current conditions he held on tight to his traveling companions Pokeball. It wasn't exactly too long ago when Athan had arrived in the town of Millenia which was generally suppose to be nice and beautiful, instead he ended up with a rainy and windy scene which he did not intend on having. On top of that he was trapped under a PokeMart, using the roof as a shield from the wet conditions. He groaned and continued to wait out the rain for awhile as he decided he did not need anything from the PokeMart at the moment.

He continued to wait for the rain to at least thin out, pulling out one of his sketchbooks to record a drawing of the scenery, who knew what kind of Pokemon might pop out as some Pokemon enjoyed the rainy conditions, particularly water-type Pokemon and Athan did not have to many sketches of water-types in his books. He glanced to the left to see if anything was over there, that was when he noticed the girl standing under the roof of the PokeMart next to him; it appeared that she had been crying, he had noticed her eyes were red and the fact she sniffed and wiped her face...like your average person in tears would do. Now naturally, Athan wouldn't care if somebody was crying for whatever reason but if a grump like Athan wouldn't be able to stand somebody next to him crying and sniffing like she was. He at least wanted to find a way to get her to be quiet for hopefully a minimum of a moment or two.

"Excuse me ma'am, is there something wrong?" he merely asked in a cool and low voice; shifting his gaze from the girl to the rainy scenery in front of him...after all there was still the possibility of a Pokemon that needed drawing to pop out.

Sniff sniff. The girl continued to cry, not even noticing that you were there. As said before, she was 18ish and had long brown hair with dark brown eyes. She was sporting a nice sun hat, which seemed strange since it was raining and all. Her body was fair and her hair soft. In one hand she had a sketchbook, and in the other a pencil. It seemed that she too was an artist of some sort. Maybe this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship? Hot girls are always nice to have around, wink wink.

The rain began to let off when she noticed you sitting next to her. "Oh my! I am soooo sorry. I didn't know you were sitting there!" She quickly wiped her eyes trying to hide the obvious fact that she had been crying. "Nothing is wrong at all! I am just... uhh... sad." Well it was obvious that she was sad. The real question is why?

"My name is Marquis Yule, and you see, I love walking around and seeing all the beauty that is nature. It soothes my soul. I love drawing pokemon. Mainly fire types. Then when it started to rain I tripped and two months worth of drawings fell straight into the rain puddle. My hard work was ruined." She paused for a moment and blushed. "I'm sorry, you probably don't even care..." She began to get up when she dropped her pencil. She leaned down to get it and her sketchpad fell open letting you see her amazing artwork. She truly had talent! The pokemon looked like they were about to jump off the page! "Sorry to bother you..." She started to walk away.

Actually, she would make a good traveling partner for you. You could travel around the world drawing life onto your pads together. Just think of the possibilities. Don't let this chance pass by.

When the girl began to speak to Athan after he had asked her if anything was okay, he shifted his attention back towards her. Listening to her as she introduced herself, Marquis Yule, a name that he hadn't really hard before...certainly original. But there Athan went, thinking about the stupid stuff once more. She focused on her a bit more as she spoke; finding out that she liked to draw Pokemon like he did as well was quite an interesting fact and he completely understood why she was upset, he too would extremely mad if his wonderful pieces of art had been ruined by the rain. Of course he would have called her a clumsy oaf for tripping in the rain, that was something that he would normally do but he didn't.

"I understand fully about how your feeling." Athan said silently and calmly pulling out one of his sketchbooks as she began to walk away, finally his chance to have a conversation with somebody who understood him! Everybody else in the world, not including his Drifloon, seemed to be quite agitating and annoying but she was somebody he could have a conversation with! The artwork on her sketchpad was simply amazing as well, it seemed quite better than anything he had drawn and he been drawing since he was younger. "I fully understand what you're going through because I myself am an aspiring artist, a Pokemon watcher to be exact." Athan said in a louder and calmer voice attempting to get her attention back; he secretly hoped that she wouldn't continue to walk away. The usually grumpy and solitary artist was often quick enough to push away interaction with other people but this was a special case, another artist which was quite rare.

Rainbows and sunshine.
Marquis Yule stopped and turned back to you, eyeing your sketch pad and smiling a little "Aspiring artist?" she said walking back over to you, "I've only ever met one other artist in the city, Master Vincent." She sat down again, well lent against a small windows sill anyway. "I love art of all kinds, pokemon watchers and just plain old artists, a conversation with you would be most enthralling." She folded her arms against the cold and wiped her eyes, maybe you could cheer her up, but having a conversation in the cold breeze outside with only a passing drizzle wouldn't do you or her any good. The plus side was the sin was coming out from behind a cloud. This was the perfect wether for water pokemon, maybe a Sqirtle would come along, or a Vaporeon, one could only hope though, such pokemon would only be seen in the presence of a trainer.

People who had avoided the rin before now walked about in the drizzle with umbrellas and rain coats. A car rushed past sending up a splash of water which landed on the pavement a few inches away, narrowly missing your feet. Starly and Pidgey alike from their roosts toock flight trying to make it back to their homes and places of safety. If you had a camera it would make the best Kodak moment, a panoramic view of the dark clouds, puddles, people, ocean, sun and pokemon. Someone was lucky enough to possess a camera, a boy with black hair wh stood in the center of the road taking a few snap shots. A car beeped at him and he hurried aross the road. When he reached the other side he took his glasses off and cleaned them of the accumulated water droplets, he was about eighteen also. On his belt which held up his dark blue jeans was clipped a pokeball, he was a trainer too. He turned to you and smiled before going back to taking photos.

Marquis Yule had been captivated by the beauty as well and had found a small space in her sketch pad that wasn't completley wet and had begun to draw, once she had finished it, which was surprisingly good for a quick sketch, she turned to you. "What say the two of us..." she cut herself off, and stared past you and broke out into a grin "Riley, long time no see!" she called. The photographer turned to see you and Yule standing next to each other "Jennifer?" he said. The two were obviously friends, Riley came over "I haven't seen you in ages, whose your friend?" Riley asked.

"We just met I havent learned his name, I had an accident with my sketch book" Jennifer replied lifting her sketchpad to show him. "Oh, thats too bad, good thing my camera is water resistant and durable," they both laughed. Jennifer turned back to you "Oh I'm sorry, I haven't seen Riley in so long I was just a little excited thats all, certainly cheered me up. Riley's a friend of mine from way back, we went to the same art school, he did well in photography and me pencil work. He left on a long trip last year and now he's back."

Riley spoke to you "I'm sure that well have alot to talk about and maybe we could become beter acquaintances, you and I" he said to you. "Why don't we have lunch together in that nice little cafe down the street, my treat of course. What do you say... umm... Mister?" He was finding it hard to call you my name, after all, he didn't know it, and he had invited you out to luch with him. Would you accept?

Athan smiled as the sun light began to creep from behind the clouds, calming him. He would have loved to draw the things he saw after that, especially the Pidgey and Starly flying from the trees, a splendid sight indeed. Athan turned his attention back to Marquis and he noticed the new comer, whose named seemed to be Riley. Another person? thought Athan, letting out a small and silent sigh. He tried to form a smirk on his face, he had to be open to meeting new people he had to be...but then again he had to remember that this boy seemed to be an artist as well, photography counted as well didn't it?

Athan went back on his train of thought, still trying to focus on the scenery of the town around him. Again you never knew when a rare Pokemon might just spring out and needed to be drawing, he still acknowledged the two who were with him; after all this would probably be the only chance that he would've had to be able to talk to other artist on his trip around these region as now artist seemed to not be as common...in fact Athan had never met another artist before. He continued his focus of the scenery behind the two when suddenly the question popped out about lunch from the boy, Riley. Strangely he had never had lunch before with another human being, as in his childhood he was often confined to the family ranch and never so much gotten out to meet new people let alone anybody with the same interest as him. "Sure I would like to have lunch." Athan began to say "By the way my name is Athan Moorelan, I am a traveling Pokemon watcher." Athan continued speaking calmly, introducing himself. After all they couldn't go to lunch not knowing each others names, that would feel so dumb and it would feel like free loading as well. Eating with somebody whose name you did not even know, that would have been just embarrassing.

After accepting the offer for lunch with Riley, he got back to the scenes around him. Athan would not want to miss his chance to draw the water-type Pokemon that his sketchbooks lagged; he glanced around the most moist areas as he knew that was where a water-type Pokemon would likely be. That was when Athan remembered his own Pokemon; he turned his attention back to Riley and Marquis. "By the way would this cafe happen to allow Pokemon?" he asked.

"Of course!" Riley laughed. "Everywhere around here is Pokemon friendly. We'd be cutting out 3/4 of the population if we didn't allow trainers to bring their Pokemon." He started to lead the way to the cafe, when he paused, his keenly honed observation skills noticing something. The bushes were rusling slightly, water shaking off of the leaves!

Since all three of you were avid Pokemon Watchers of one type or another, there was a flurry of activty as cameras were wiped off, pencils were whipped out and sharpened, tripods were set, and sketchbooks were opened.

And your expectations were rewarded! Peeking out from under the bush, entranced by a shiny rock, was a Marill! Bouncing forward, the little blue Pokemon squirmed out from the branches, and picked up the little rock, a delighted expression comeing over it's face. So cute! Whether you wanted to try and befriend it, catch it, or just make pretty pictures was up to you, of course. It seemed content to admire it's shiny rock in the sun for a while yet.

Athan blinked and looked at his Drifloon's Pokeball attached to his belt. That's a good thing to keep note of. Athan thought, he was planning on releasing his Pokemon at the cafe so he could have a bit of fresh air about him, being cooped up in that Pokeball for quite along time wouldn't do him any good...and Athan knew about being cooped up. The aspiring Pokemon Watcher began to follow Riley to the cafe, thinking about the kinds of food that could be served there; Athan was particularly hungry for a doughnut and some pancakes, it had been quite along time since he had any. Athan took a few steps behind Riley and that was when he noticed the bushes begin to shake and crawling out of it a playful and cute Marill. He watched the small blue mouse Pokemon begin to play with a shiny rock that it had found, it was just what he was hoping for.

"Excuse me for a moment." Athan stated whipping out a different sketchbook, he smoothly strolled over to the Marill drawing out a packet of art supplies. "It has been awhile since I have been able to draw a playful Pokemon such as this one." Athan remarked. Once he approached a decent distance that he figured wouldn't be too close to the Marill, Athan then got down on one knee and watched it closely. Keeping his eye on the Pokemon the Pokemon Watcher began to sketch an image of the Marill playing with the shiny rock into the sketchbook. He was hoping that it wouldn't spot him as he knew that it may get startled and run away, but at the same time he also would've liked it if the Pokemon spotted him so he could get a closer look.

Riley and Marquis both began to capture the pokemon in their unique art styles. Riley's camera flashed repeatedly. It was a shock that the much fit could even fit in a camera! Riley got alomst every angle of the pokemon. Marill looked up and saw the flashes. You would probably think that the flashes would scare her off, but since it made the rock she was playing with shine, she couldn't care less.

Marquis whipped out her sketch pad and drew with amazing speed. She drew the basic outline and then filled it in with a light blue color pencil. She shadowed and shaded. A true sight to behold. If her art didn't amaze you, then the way that she drew her art would! The paper was actually getting hot from how fast her pencils were rubbing on it.

Eyes bright and weapons a blazin', all the artists, including you, were simply stunned at the playful marill. The marill didn't seem to know you were there, or simply didn't care. It was a perfect pokemon for acting and posing. The way it moved was mystical and the way it bounced made people happy for some reason. If you caught this pokemon, it would certainly benefit you in the long run. Just think, you can take it all over the pokemon world and have it pose in different terrains or something.

Marquis put her pencils down after finishing her drawing, "I wish I had some pokeballs, this pokemon is simply wonderful!" She put her supplies back into her bag.

Riley agreed with a nod, "I'm not a water pokemon fan when it comes to catching pokemon, but this pokemon really is good at posing and playing. Its so darn cute! I'm almost sad to leave it here! What do you think Athan?" Before giving you a chance to answer, he stood up from the 'picture-taking stance' he was in and said, "So you guys ready to eat, or is someone going to catch this beauty?"

The marill looked up and turned her head in a cute way. The stone dropped to the ground and her tail batted it around a few times before she began to retreat back into the bushes. Better hurry if you want to catch it or befriend it or something.

After sketching the Pokemon for quite awhile, Athan finally finished his drawing. He closed his sketchpad and tucked it away and stood up from his crouching position off the ground. "You know this Marill is quite cute, and it can pose like an expert." Athan stated; the Pokemon Watcher took a swift glance at Riley and Marquis to see if they were dazzled by the Marill's skill at posing, Athan began to imagine the amount of pictures he could draw with this Marill and when he heard Riley ask if anybody was going to catch it...he decided to take a shot. "Well I guess I might want to take a shot at getting this one." Athan calmly sighed closing his eyes for a slight moment and slowly reopened them. Athan was a strange character indeed and one would probably be confused as to what was going through his head a the moment. Then out of the blue Athan slowly began to step towards the Marill, trying to get a great distance close to it; when Athan felt he was close enough he got back down onto his knee and clipped a Pokeball off of his belt and he sat it down on the ground. Athan wasn't the type of person to battle and he did not wish to harm the Marill in all of its natural beauty so he decided he would play his 'befriending method' and try to convince the Marill to join him on his adventure through Alternia.

"Excuse me me Marill." Athan began to speak as a small smirk tried to struggle its way onto his face. "Feel free not to accept this offer I am about to propose but I was just sitting here...marveled by your stunning cuteness and I just couldn't help myself...so yeah would you like to come with me; you can keep the rock." Athan looked at the Pokeball that was laying on the ground and nudged it towards the Marill, hoping that the small blue mouse Pokemon would accept his offer, especially since he mentioned the rock as Athan had came to realize how much the Pokemon loved the object.

Athan looked back at Riley and Marquis lazily gave then a thumbs up, signifying that he wasn't planning on giving up on having this Marill joining him on the adventure. He turned his attention back to the Pokemon in case he had made a move for the Pokeball, at the same time Athan began to consider the possibility that Marill might take the Pokeball and storm off with it costing him a Pokeball and a new addition to his party.

The tiny water Pokemon would look up at you though, as you spoke to it. The red and white orb that you laid upon the ground the main focus of it's attention as it moved towards the Pokeball, nice little shiny rock dropped to the ground as it's big round eyes began to marvel at the orb. It listened to your words, thought it seemed to be a bit more infactuated with the color contrasting ball of capture that laid upon the ground before it.

'Marrill!!' It's happy little squeal would be heard as it's ball ended tail would come forward to slap upon the button that was on the front of the capturing device. The red whitish streak of lighting would find it's way to the tiny water Pokemon as it would sizzle upoin it's form and suck it into the tiny half colored sphere. Mission Accomplished.

Congratulations. You've captured a :marill :female Level 3.

Now, with the tiny stone left upon the ground the Pokeball you had laid out filled with a new companion, it was time to figure out where you were going next. With the duo you had met to get a bite to eat, or to bigger and better things. Because it seemed that as you stood up, and got a clear view over the bush, there was a bit of action. Maybe perfect for a sketch in the pad or maybe even a chance to learn some techniques if you ever had to battle.

Your call of course. But at this distance you could see the competitors in the friendly duel. A younger girl, with blonde hair and a young child about thirteen years old. The girl seemed to be commanding a young Houndour. The boy, seemed to be in a commanding lead with a young and confident Cubone. Offly uncharateristic for the skull wearing Pokemon, but none the less. Now, what were you to do.

Athan watched as the Marill leaped at the Pokeball and was engulfed inside, completing his capture attempt. He smiled taking the Pokeball with his newly captured Marill inside of it and attached it onto his belt; Athan then grabbed the shiny stone which was now on the ground, he had promised the Marill that she could keep the stone didn't he? As he stood up he noticed the Pokeball battle going on over the undergrowth, a Houndour and a Cubone in battle. Athan decided to ignore the battle as he wasn't too interested in Pokemon battles and he enjoyed drawing Pokemon who were in their natural habitat or in a peaceful environment and not under the stress of a Pokemon battle. He turned his attention back to Marquis and Riley, he had said that he would eat at the cafe with them and he wanted to get a meal and on top of that it would probably be his only chance to get to know the two artist.

"Welcome to the team Marlo." he said, bestowing a new nickname upon the Marill he had just recently caught. "Well I guess we'd better be getting to the cafe now or maybe we should check out that Pokemon battle going on over there?" Athan asked them, just because he wasn't too interested in the event going on nearby didn't mean that they weren't and besides maybe it would be a chance to give his Drifloon some fresh air...after all the balloon Pokemon was inside of the Pokeball for a long time. Athan then slowly proceeded to pocket his hands, slouching his posture a bit in a calm and relaxed position; he wasn't too thrilled about anything at the moment and really didn't care were things went...that is till his stomach began to rumble loud. Athan clenched his grumbling stomach as the hunger pains began to tear at his stomach; exactly when was the last time he had eaten? Better yet when was the last time his Drifloon had eaten, he had completely forgotten about these facts and it soon turned him to believe that going to the cafe would be a much better solution.

"Nah..." Riley said. "I've seen them before... they look impresive from a distance, but they really aren't too picture-worthy. Not like that little Marill of yours." He smiled, and headed off again, this time actually making it to the cafe without any further distractions. "And here we are!"

Even without Riley as a guide, you and Marquis would have been able to spot the place. It had an open patio outside, with umbrellas up to keep the tables shaded or dry depending on the weather, and more room to sit inside. And if the tasty looking food on some of the tables wasn't enough, the prodigious amounts of Pokemon present would clue you in.

Almost everyone present seemed to be here with a Pokemon, and there were several Machop helping to serve food to customers. Presumably, they were also there to serve as bouncers if some trainers and their Pokemon got too aggressive with each other. A group of people at one booth inside the cafe seemed to enjoy Fire Pokemon the most, each of them with a pretty, smallish fire-type accompanying them. A man with a Spearow was at a table out on the patio, and two kids with identical Rattata were drinking milkshakes. There were probably more people and Pokemon inside, but it was hard to tell from the street.

The menu had plenty of mouth-watering offerings, it looked like an excellent place to sate your hunger, and that of your Pokemon.

"Alright then." Athan responded to Riley's statement about the battling trainers when he began to head off once more he began to follow him; his stomach rumbling even harder than it was just a few moments ago, Athan had to get something to eat and fast. Athan was glad when they finally came to the cafe, it looked quite peaceful and judging by what everybody else there was eating he figured that he was going to enjoy his meal; Athan then without saying anything he grabbed two small Pokeballs off his belt, one contained his Drifloon: Uindo while the other contained the Marill: Marlo who he had just captured. He enlarged the two Pokeballs by pressing their buttons and then tossed them in the air, releasing the two Pokemon from them.

After releasing the two Pokemon he sat the shiny rock that Marlo his Marill was playing with upon capturing her, she might have wanted to play with it some more since she had been within the Pokeball. After that he patted Uindo, the Drifloon on the head and then glanced around the patio at all of the Pokemon and their trainers that were out on it. He wasn't interested in the trainers but the Pokemon, they weren't under the stress of a battle and were just hanging out peacefully which is just how Athan would like draw them. "I am going to get a table." Athan stated taking steps and leaving his two newly found acquaintances behind to go find somewhere to eat. He would rather not have eaten inside of the cafe as the Pokemon outside intrigued him more. "Drif!" Uindo cried as Athan began to walk away, the Pokemon was quite insecure about being too far from his trainer and when ever Athan began to even move away from him the balloon Pokemon would often grow to cry; while Uindo cried for Athan at the sight of the shiny rock that was now back on the ground Marlo went back for it happy to see it again. As Athan walked over to the patio he began to slowly pull out his notebook, he was wondering how he could sketch all of the Pokemon there without tracking attention to himself, he sighed and continued to search for a table as well as make preparations to begin to draw the amazing Pokemon that he saw. Maybe if he sat down at a table and kept his notebook low he wouldn't be noticed drawing them and things would seem less awkward for him.

You managed to find a table outside. The umbrella overhead was white with blue stripes, which matched the blue table. As you sat you saw several interesting chances for sketching. A boy with silver hair held an MP3 played between himself and his Whismur. Each had one ear bud and nodded their heads in time to the music. Beyond them, a blond man in a black suit and sunglasses tossed small cookies into the air, where his Spearow caught them. The bird then returned to a perch on top of the building.

Your friends returned with trays. Each tray held a small amount of food and drinks enough for three people. Riley shook his head. “Man, you wouldn’t believe what they charge here.” He placed a bottle of water and a club sandwich in front of you. “You’ll get me next time, right?”

As you watched the crowd you finally spotted the best pokemon to draw. You spotted a woman in a light blue dress. Beside her, a pale-blue Squirtle was drinking a strawberry milkshake! It was a Squirtle, and it appeared to be one of the rare blue ones!. People were stopping on the streets to take pictures with their cell phones. As the woman moved, you saw the Squirtle had tattoos on both arms. The tats were dark blue wave armbands, and made the normally cute Squirtle look just a bit more dangerous.

As you pulled out your art pad, a powerful gust of wind grabbed the umbrellas and threatened to topple the tables. Drinks and napkins were thrown into the wind. And behind you, you heard: “LOOOoooonnnn!”

SON OF A - Uindo had been swept away from you on the strong wind!
