Azedenkae's Journey

Millenia Town…lots of technology, yet pretty much right next to a beach. Quite an interesting place it is, yes. All around you were technical marvels, tourist attractions, and plenty of people, natives and tourists alike. They bustled about, looking at this and that, buying and selling stuff and generally just going about their lives as always. The sun was shining brightly and its rays warmed you gently.

In a square ahead of you was a pair of trainers who were battling one another. From the expressions on the boys’ faces you knew they were concentrating hard on the battle, but enjoying it too. This battle was for fun more than anything else, except maybe that they wanted to test their strength against one another. It was an aerial battle too, which added to the complexity since the trainers really needed to think about up and down as much as any other direction.

An aerial battle? Yes indeed, as one trainer was battling with a Taillow and the other had a Pidgey. It looked like a good match. Maybe there was someone with a water pokemon around that would train with you down at the beach. Pokemon like Tentacool can’t do anything out of water, but luck was with you when you were teleported for you to be sent to a place so close to the ocean! A little walk and you could train your Tentacool, swim, tan, and much more! Heh, who knew, maybe you’d run into some other sea dwelling pokemon.

Oh hey look, the battle is almost over! If you don’t feel like heading to the beach just yet, maybe you’d like to chat with those two trainers? One of them might have a pokemon your Tentacool could battle against. Explore the town, go shopping, have some fun! There are lots of options before you, but only you can decide which is the option to pursue.

Azedenkae

One of the first things Azedenkae found out when he first got teleported here was that his Pokedex got wiped, for some reason. Hence, this battle had offered him the first spots on his Pokedex, not counting Ran. Trailing his Pokedex at the fight through the whole battle, Azedenkae had added the data of Pidgey and Taillow, watching the statistics carefully as the battle raged on, until about the middle of the battle when he felt that there was nothing more to learn.

Deselecting the Pokedex program on his Poketech, Azedenkae turned instead to his Tentacool, who he had to keep in his Pokeball due to the fact that Tentacools tended to dry on land. Luckily, though, he was teleported right next to the ocean. He hadn't moved from the area since then, still wondering about the Pokemon he released. Yes, he didn't really like the Pokemon much, and yes, there wasn't a lot of chances that it was still around the area, but still, he felt a nagging feeling.

Violently, Azedenkae shook the feeling out of his mind and focused back on Ran, his Tentacool. No, she mattered much more than his old Pokemon. He should focus on Ran first, and then everything else can come later.

Pressing the button on the Pokeball, and light shone into the shallow shore, releasing Ran directly into the seas. Ah... Ran. It's good to see you.

Ran herself seemed relieved, looking as kindly as a Tentacool can at Azedenkae as possible.

"Guess I should start raising you properly then... get ready." With that, he took out three items - 2 rare candies and a TM out of his slingbag, the same one that he had since a long time ago. Slowly, he reached down and threw the two rare candies into the seas, immediately being wrapped around by Ran and fed straight into itself, giving itself a boost of permanent strength. Smiling, Azedenkae continued by activating the TM on Tentacool, transferring the data of a new move to Ran. He had taken forever on Tohea to obtain such things, hoping for the day he could use it on Ran. Well, the day has came, and now, he was finally ready to truly begin his journey.

Pulling Ran back into it's Pokeball, Azedenkae turned and headed towards the waning battle, wanting to chat with the Pokemon Trainers a bit once they finished their duel.

(Added Blizzard to your moves list and removed the rare candies.)

Despite being surrounded by a ring of Taillow-double teams, the Pidgey did not look the least bit frightened. It hovered in place, not unlike an aquatic pokemon treading water despite the possibilities that came without the limitations of 'land'. The trainer yelled out its orders, and the pidgey started flapping its left wing faster than its right, causing it to spin. Within a split second, its clumsy flight pattern turned into a 'gust' attack of unreal proportions, blowing away the illusions left by the Taillow. The use of a gust attack with a 360 degree radius was a testament to the raw talent of his trainer, who grinned as he saw the move that had become his 'tradmark' among the local trainers put into play. However, no real pokemon was swept up by the rushing winds and the reason why became quite evident as the Taillow swooped down from above, divebombing the Pidgey with an aerial ace to the back of its head. Both pokemon went spiraling to the ground, but only the taillow anaged to stop itself from hitting it.

The Pidgey's trainer, a stereotypical young boy-type who was quite proud of his shorts, shouted "Good match!" before returning his pokemon and walking away with a resolute look on his face. He'd train harder, get better, all for the chance to beat the man he thought of as his 'rival'.

Boy, wouldn't it be embarassing for him if you kicked the 'rival's butt before he did? Well, here's your chance:

With the Taillow returned and another victory secured among his record, the winner casually walked up to where you stood with a cocky grin smeared across his face.

"Hey, I saw you watching my battle. I was awesome, huh? Want to go a round with the Eric-meister?"

Naturally, you don't have much of a choice. I mean, you could decline, but who in the world would want to?

Expecting you to accept his challenge, the boy tossed a Pokeball into the water, which made the typical flash of red light then returned to him as if the last 20 seconds had been rewound. A Qwilfish appeared in the shallow water where the flash dissipated, and started spitting water as if mocking a water gun attack.

"That's the pokemon my dad bred for me, Kwilz. With a 'K' and a 'Z', man, so don't mis-spell it when you write home to mommy about how badly I whupped your sorry butt. You got a water pokemon, right?"

Well? Don't you?

Azedenkae

Azedenkae had stopped a bit further back from the battle, continuing to watch it as it neared the end. He had seen both attacks before, using an area of effect attack to destroy the illusions, and attacking from above when dealing with a gust or whirlwind or even just a spinning Pokemon, like a Hitmontop. Both trainers at least knew the basics, from the look of it. It would have been cool if that was the end, but the Taillow got caught in the Pidgey, and both spiralled to the ground, though the Taillow still managed out. Not exactly an elegant ending to a match, but it was an ending after all, and well, at least Taillow was quick enough to loosen itself and flap upwards. That could be said as impressive, Azedenkae guessed.

To his surprise, they two seemed to end on a happy note, with the Pidgey Trainer walking away, not exactly happy, but not too sad either. Ah, friendly competition.

"Eric"

"Hey, I saw you watching my battle. I was awesome, huh? Want to go a round with the Eric-meister?"

Or not... Azedenkae watched as the excited trainer threw his own Pokeball into the shallow waters, releasing a Qwilfish into it. The Qwilfish smiled (or at least seemed to), before spurting water at him, as though trying to taunt Azedenkae. Well, now that this happened... I guess I'll have to accept.

Activating the Pokedex function in his Poketech, Azedenkae pointed it at Qwilfish and whilst Eric rambled on about his Pokemon, Azedenkae absentmindedly reached for his own Pokeball, listening to his Pokedex at the same time.

'Qwilfish. By filling itself with water, Qwilfish inflates itself and can shoot it's poisonous spines in all directions. Water and Poison Type. Has abilities Poison Point and Swift Swim.'

So, a water and poison type as well, eh? Interesting...

Looking up at Eric, Azedenkae listened to the final ramblings of the boy, before replying with a 'ye' and throwing his own Pokeball into the water, releasing Rán about 5 meters away from Kwilz. Her blue orbs shone in the sunlight, a sign of good health. In deeper water, it would have camouflaged perfectly with its surroundings, but in this shallow water, Azedenkae cannot use that fact as an advantage.

Checking on his own Pokemon, Azedenkae tried to come up with a plan. Poison Sting won't work, as the opponent is also a poison type. Blizzard won't be very useful as well, though it could still do quite a bit of damage. So, the best solution right now was to confuse the enemy first, before attacking with Rán's natural appendages. Or, there was another way.

Azedenkae looked at Eric and smiled. "Shall we begin? Rán! Try your best to wrap your tentacles around your opponent to restrict it's ability to inflate itself! Then, use Confuse Ray on your opponent and try to constrict it as much as possible! If that doesn't work, try to use your tentacles to raise your opponent towards the water surface, above it if possible and use Blizzard on your opponent!" Azedenkae ordered, giving himself the first strike in battle. Let see how quickly his opponent reacts.

"Kwilz, swim away from it! When I give you the order, turn around and use signal beam!"

Without any sort of recognition of its orders, the Qwilfish turned tail and fled from the Tentacool, staying close to the surface of the water. Although not an adept swimmer in any sense, the Qwilfish was fast enough to keep away from the tentacles of its foe, whose species wasn't built for long-distance swimming. When there was roughly a ten foot gap between the two Pokemon, Eric shouted "NOW!!!", causing the Qwilfish to turn around on the spot and fire off a single 'signal beam' towards Ran.

However, because Qwilfish are even worse at turning in the water thanks to its small fins and clunky body, Ran was able to duck underneath the water even before the shot was fired. Eric was obviously quite inexperienced at battling with Water-type pokemon, despite his initial cockiness.

"HE'S UNDER THE WATER! Eric shouted, his arms furiously twitching as he pointed to where Ran submerged.

But it was too late. Ran crept under Qwilfish and gracefully wrapped his tentacles around its spherical body, making sure not to touch the spines. As per your commands, beam of light was shot out of the gem on its right side that confused the fish, who began thrashing about in a futile attempt to escape. Tentacool's mouth opened wide and fired off a cone-shaped sheet of ice at Qwilfish's stomach, freezing the exposed area on contact. However, with Ran's appendages wrapped around Kwilz as the attack was released, he accidentally froze himself to his opponent!

Regardless, it seemed like that round of the match was in your favor, even if the only damage done to you was done by you.

Azedenkae

Azedenkae watched as his opponent called out his own orders, telling Kwilz to swim away from Ran. It was a good move, as even though Tentacools were long distance swimmers, they were not quick swimmers. Despite that, his loyal Ran pushed herself to the limit and propelled herself as fast as possible at Kwilz. He also proud by how smart Ran was, ducking underneath the waves when Eric ordered the Qwilfish to fire its Signal Beam. Azedenkae had no idea what the attack was supposed to do, but he was glad that the attack missed. He was always glad that attacks missed, though he only wore a small smile on his face and kept the calm stance. It was best not to give anything away, whether happiness or frustration.

Unlike Eric, who seemed totally frustrated right now. Azedenkae simply watched as Ran's Confuse Ray hit the Qwilfish, followed by a Blizzard straight at Kwilz' belly. Though it was not exactly according to plan, Azedenkae was rather happy that Ran did that. Now, Ran was stuck to Qwilfish, where it can fire attacks directly at it. And Kwilz can't dodge, unless somehow it could teleport away... could it?

"GOOD WORK, RAN!" Azedenkae shouted, suddenly showing a lot of emotion in his face. "YOU'RE GONNA WOOP THAT QWILFISH' BUTT!" Of course, a bit of spurring doesn't hurt. It would only make Ran more confident, and hopefully make his opponent even more frustrated. "Go ahead and use Poison Sting on your opponent's belly, directly where it's frozen! If your opponent seems to about to manage to get away, use Blizzard on it again! If not, Poison Sting again!"

He knew that the Qwilfish can't be poisoned, but that was not the point of the poison sting. He hoped that being the sharp attacks would do more damage to Kwilz' belly than normal, since it is after all frozen to a certain degree. In water, the ice is easier to break, and when it splits, it should also to a certain extent damage Kwilz' belly. On the other hand, he was having the upper hand, as Ran could easily attack Kwilz, whilst Kwilz can't, for it was facing in a different direction, whilst Ran was facing directly at Kwil'z belly.

Unlike Eric, Azedenkae was keeping calm and suggesting as many actions as possible to Ran, though the amount that it can do depends on itself. Azedenkae could see that Ran was exhausted, but he knew that not until the very end, Ran won't give up. They've grown up together, was best buddies. He'd do everything for her, and she'd do everything for him. Eric, on the other hand, did not tell Kwilz anything when it was struck by Ran's attacks, and as such Kwilz simply thrashed about when Ran wrapped around it. It seemed that their connection wasn't as strong as Eric suggested, if it was bred for him.

But anything could happen, and Azedenkae only hoped that his current flimsy lead would stay so.

Before Eric could react, Ran unleashed a plethora of tiny needles made from poison energy from its mouth and directly onto Qwilfish's unguarded stomach. At such a close range, the attack would have been reasonably effective given that none of the needles would miss. However, your prediction of the ice making its stomach weaker was quite the opposite: with a thin layer of ice and frozen skin, the needles glanced off the Pokemon's normally rubbery hide. The needles did manage to crack through the ice as predicted, but not enough for Ran to peel his tentacles away from its foe without ripping its own body.

"Kwilz! Spit spikes directly in the Tentacool's face, then crack open a can of whupass with a signal beam at max power!"

As analyzed by you, Kwilz and Eric lacked the bond between you and Ran, despite that Kwilz was created specifically for its owner. A child can dislike or generally show disinterest towards its parents after all, and there was little difference between the bonds formed between people and between Pokemon. However, Eric was a very competent trainer outside of the water, and the literal bonding of his Pokemon to yours removed most of the strategic aspects you gained from the Ocean.

Kwils spat a flurry of spikes into Ran's soft body, which managed to stick into the poor creature's skin. One even managed to find its way into Ran's left eye, which would blind it for the rest of the battle. Just be thankful of the magical hands of Nurse Joy: a few decades ago, the damage might have been permanent.

POed, Ran unleashed another flurry of poison needles that penetrated further into the ice covering Kwilz's skin. He could almost manage to get away from it until....

Uh-oh.

Kwilz unleashed a powerful beam of bug-energy directly at Ran's face and the concussion of the attack managed to forcefully pry the two Pokemon away from each other. Unfortunately, pieces of the sensitive skin on Ran's tentacles remained on Kwilz's body, apparently torn off as a result. Just be thankful that bug types aren't all too effective on Tentacool, or the damage would have been far greater.

Crap. Turns out that the ice underneath Kwilz' belly wasn't as hard as he had thought it would be. Even worse, due to that mistake, the attack from Ran only helped Kwil escape easier. One small mistake and now they were back on equal footing, possible even tipping the scale on Ran. Winning this battle was more than just calling out attacks, especially since he knew his opponent was at least a good enough tactician, as seen from his previous battle.

"Ran, swim away from Kwilz first, and keep your distance!" Azedenkae ordered, deciding that whilst he can't think of anything yet, distance should be kept.

Ran knew four moves up till now, and only 2 of those deal direct damage - though both are not very effective against Kwilz. One of them took up a lot of energy. The other two moves can both confuse the opponent... wait, confuse. It popped into his mind that Kwilz was a slow turner, and if Ran could swim around Kwilz faster than Kwilz can turn, then it'd be easy...

Yes.

"Ran, swim around Kwilz whilst slowly approach it, until you're swimming faster than it is swimming!" Azedenkae ordered, imagining in his mind that by that time, Kwilz would have turned around quite a bit, perhaps either weakening itself or causing itself to be dizzy. Then, it was simple. "Once you face its back, use Blizzard! and keep on swimming! At your next best chance, use Blizzard, again! But, at any point, if you feel that it's not working, retreat and use Confuse Ray!" Azedenkae hoped the new radical strategy would work. The main problem was that Ran was a slow swimmer - though not extremely slow, and he had a feeling that Kwilz was even slower at turning around.

Ran happily complied with your orders, its tender tentacles giving it a more personal reason to want the battle to end. It moved as commanded, sweeping around Kwilz in a spiral motion with its good eye focused on its opponent at all times.

"Don't give it the chance to get close! SIGNAAAAL BEAAAAAAM!" Eric shouted dramatically, kicking up sand as he over-excited himself and began throwing a bit of a temper tantrum. Apparently, the rest of the beach was used to Eric's antics, as they paid little mind to any of his yelling or spaz attacks.

With a stomach that belonged in with the frozen fishsticks at the super-market, Kwilz had its own vendetta. It released several signal beams, the first of which hit Ran on his left side. The second missed by scant inches, and the third missed by several feet. Your strategy was working perfectly; taking advantage of the Qwilfish's inability to turn in order to get in close and deliver the final blow.

Finally, Ran was directly behind the creature, who was frantically turning left and right in order to discern the tentacool's position. But to no avail, for Ran moved along with Kwilz, keeping out of its sight regardless of the cost. In a moment of complete panic, Kwilz darted away from Ran, once again relying on its slight speed advantage.

As he saw the pokemon's tail quicken, Ran fired off a well-aimed Blizzard attack on the Qwilfish's hind portion, which froze its tail solid! Looks like it wasn't going anywhere...

Ran casually floated directly above the Qwilfish and released another Blizzard directly upon it, freezing the creature solid and ending the battle.

Eric cursed then put his proverbial foot in his mouth and returned the fishstick to its pokeball and walked away. Meanwhile, in a completely different undisclosed location, the trainer that Eric had beaten in the aerial battle suddenly felt a huge overwhelming depression for reasons unknown, and immediately sought therapy.

To the victor goes the spoils: Ran earned 70 :exp from the battle, pushing it up to level 8! However, it might be a good idea to stop at the local pokemon center before trying out the 'constrict' ability that just popped into Ran's movepool.

Azedenkae

Azedenkae wanted to raise his hands up and scream in victory, but he thought better of it and only smiled whilst watching as Eric threw his own tantrum, before stomping off. Azedenkae waited until the boy was completely out of his sight, before running and kneeling down at the edge of the waters, where Ran, using the last of her energy, had swam to. Now, it was just lazily drifting with the small waves, moving inches back and forth. It seemed to be simply resting, but the pain in its left eye would suggest differently. Best to hurry to the Pokemon Center now.

"You did good, Ran. Very good. Go ahead and just rest now." Azedenkae told his Pokemon as he withdrew Ran into its Pokeball, tucking her on his belt. He was very, very proud of his Pokemon right now, and would be even if he lost. It was his Pokemon after all, and she had tried her best. That was the most important thing. Now, he just needed to treat his Pokemon.

And he was off, his shoes imprinting steps into the sand as he ran across the beach, heading towards the Pokemon Center. It wasn't actually a mortal wound, or one untreatable unless cured in a few minutes, but it was a wound nonetheless, and it was making his Pokemon uncomfortable, as with the torn tentacles. He still had to get more TMs as well, to make Ran even stronger. She had just gained a level, he was sure, and that meant one of the more useful attacks Tentacools learned - Constrict. But variety is important, and so he still needed more. Lot's more.

Your pokemon took the pain like a trooper. He was so good that it looked lie your pokemon wasn't hurt at all. None the less, you rushed to the Pokemon Center to heal your jelly-filled companion. The nurse took your pokeball with a smile and quickly went to work. In a few minutes, she was back at the speed of light with a healed tentacool in her palms. You took the balls and the nurse went on to the next patient. Busy busy busy! A nurse's job is never done.

Outside it was a pretty good day. A cool breeze, sunshine, and the murmur of pokemon and people in the background. It felt pretty darn good if you ask me! What to do now? There's your whole life ahead of you, and its your choice to pick a path. As you looked around you could see an old man with a cane that was being harrassed by butt-holeish teenagers. One took his cane, causing him to fall and another grabbed his sack with all his belongings in it. What jerks! What is the world coming to, I swear.

Anyway, a teenager saw that you were watching the mugging and decided that he didn't want any witnesses. When the others saw that he was going over to you and the fact that you saw the whole spectacle, took off, dropping the man's purse. The ringleader teen was still walking over to you. How is no one coming to help you? Where is the freaking cops!? What a time we live in, eh? There weren't alot of people around, but the ones that were, didn't do squat to help. Now its your turn to decide. Will you walk away like the rest or take the teens challenge? The old man might even make it worth your while, wink wink. He seemed pretty well of financially. Plus this is your chance to teach those whippersnappers some rules, pokemon style. Then again you could run away...

OOC: Tentacool's a she. XD
BIC:
#### Just his luck to run into a robbery and become a witness. Well, luckily, at least Ran is fully healed. She could probably poison the guy before he could do anything. Though, the thief probably did have a Pokemon with him, which, if turned into a Pokemon Battle, Azedenkae would be disadvantaged. Though if he did beat the crap out of the thief, he could probably get whatever the thief was carrying with him, save for the old man's things. Well, was worth a chance.

As quickly as possible, Azedenkae whipped out Ran's Pokeball and bent his arm to hold it sideways next to his shoulder. Quickly, he pressed the Pokeball button to release his fully healthy Tentacool upon his other arm. "RAN! USE POISON STING ON HIS CHEST!" Azedenkae ordered, raising his left arm, the one with Ran stuck to it, at the thief. It wasn't exactly the smartest thing to do, but it was worth a shot. There were people around, and he hoped that if worse comes to worse, i.e. possibly of death, they'd actually help then.

Of course, neither of them were idiots. It was not needed to be said, but Ran knew the basic plan of attack, when an order of Azedenkae's backfires. Always use Confuse Ray first, followed by a Blizzard. The Confuse Ray, as Azedenkae had taught Ran, was pretty useful against almost all opponents. Confusion is always a good choice of a status debuff to inflict on an opponent, and Blizzard was a strong enough attack to at least annoy most opponents.

The strategy paid off. The thief was down, although the barb had only struck him a painful blow on the arm. The toxins quickly entered into his system, and he went into a state of shock. Well, although the boy was probably in danger of death at this stage, he had dropped the things he had stolen. The man went up and reclaimed his items, giving the downed teenager a whack of his cane for good measure.

Luckily, there was a trainer around who acted quick enough to stop the poison from having a greatly harmful effect. The trainer used her Chansey to help the boy. This, however, made him healthy enough to respond to his loot being taken from him. He now ignored the old man, and struggled to his feet to confront you. He took a Pokeball from his belt and released a Machop.

The fighting type looked as aggressive as his master. This would be a challenging battle. But you had heard the old man offering a reward for the sound thrashing of this young thief. So the battle would be worth your while, if you won.

Azedenkae

Azedenkae almost wanted to facepalm himself, but resisted doing it. Why. WHY? It was stupid to revive a thief just like that, with out actually tying him down first or something. Healing an injured person is a right thing to do, but healing a bad guy and letting him loose again was not. Well, at least the old man got his stuff back.

Guess there must be a battle after all...

As quickly as before, Azedenkae activated his Pokedex and got a quick layout of Machop. Immediately, his minds tried to form plans whilst he still paid attention to both Machop and the thief. Unlike the last battle, this one wasn't going to be easy. Though he did one single advantage over his opponent - fighting type attacks were weak against poison and Machops did not learn any move of any other type naturally - this was a land battle, and that meant that Ran could not move, unless he carried her with him... why not?

Azedenkae leaned in closer and began whispering to Ran. "I will soon order you to use Confuse Ray on your opponent. If it gets confused enough, I'll throw you at the Machop and your order is to use Constrict on it right away and wrap around him, especially his head as hard as possible. But if it doesn't get confused, your order is to use Poison Sting on it. Get it? Now, confuse it!" Azedenkae concluded his whispers, before pushing his arm straight out again, as though he himself was going to fire the confuse ray from his arm. This was definitely a new way to battle, and he could really get used to it.

The boy wasn't to be trifled with. Unfortunately for him, he WAS to be confused, as the ray of confusing energy blared in both his machop's eyes AND his, befuddling both their minds. As the boy opened his mouth to issue orders, his mind flitted over his options with no controllable path. He managed to focus long enough to get his orders off, pointing directly at you, almost mimicking your pose. "Use... Karate chop on 'at kid's arm an' Leer at 'im! ... I mean! Leer and THEN Karate Chop!" He barked.

With a confused utterance of it's name, Machop nodded, registering the commands, and stepped forward. As he did, the Machop's knee half-buckled and he spun to correct it, delivering a harsh leer to his own master. The boy gave a spooked sound and fell back on his butt just in time to avoid getting his arm broken by the powerful little bundle of muscles. "I said him. HIM!" He growled. The Machop just stared at him confused.

With this as your signal, you chucked the Jellyfish forward at Machop, Ran lacing it's throat with her tentacles and tugging hard to create a sort of noose. Confused as he was, the machop just began running around and flailing his arms, despite not being able to breathe. The damage wasn't terribly major, but the scene was nothing if not comical.
