Rebuild the World in Ice
As you stepped onto the streets of Nogou Village, you could feel a fresh breeze lightly wrap around your ankles and cool you. Nogou Village is one of the region's principle cities because of its economic purpose in Alternia. The village of Nogou was the top producer of food for the region. So basically you made a good choice in selecting your city; lets just try not to get you into any trouble while your here.

It was a wonderous day to start a Journey. The sky was clear and not a thing could go wrong. It was although the world was at peace and nothing wrong could ever happen. Otherwise a perfect time to start a Journey.

Anyway, there are many things that you can do here. Go to the park, look for a job, you could even look for pokemon that inhabit urban areas. Though, some pokemon like Grimer aren't always nice to have around. However, there are plenty of other things to do as well including finding another pokemon trainer and battling him or her for glory, honor, and the right to rub it in their face if your opponent loses. Remember though, battling is just as much physical as it it mental. Fair warning if you choose the path of the warmongerer. In fact look over there I see a Voltorb rolling towards you. You could fight it if you want or maybe even try to play kickball (That'd be mean but it sound rather fun). Wanna take it on?

Avalon, Nails and Rammy took a second to stretch their legs during this seemingly brisk morning. As always when stretching, Avalon did a quick hop-jump-skip manuver to make sure there were no aches and pains. After being on that boat it felt good the finally be able to stand and not sway about to and fro like a palm tree in a strong breeze. Rammy stood beside Avalon, banging his foot on the ground testing out this new land which was no different from the earth back home. The only difference about that spot was a bunch of rock shards which no doubt used to be a larger rock but was crushed under Rammy's large weight. Nails ran around in a small circle grinning, he enjoyed being on solid ground also, infact he almost looked like he could do a cartwheel or somersault at any moment.

Avalon smiled and picked up the egg he had put down and craddled it in his arms, he once again thought about what could be inside. He thought of many posibilities. It could be a Taillow, a flying type would be a good eddition to his team with both elegance and grace, and a touch of kickass attitude. It could be an Eevee, a pokemon like that would be great for pokemon contests with its fur all brushed and a box or bow tie, very très chic. Of course it could be one of the pokemon that Avalon hates, such as a Mankey, or a Bronzor. Nevertheless, Avalon would have to wait for the egg to hatch to find out for sure, whenether that was.

Ah well, the sky was clear and the Pidgey were chirping in the trees surrounding the village, Avalon felt he had no worries at that exact moment and he basked in the feeling. He supposed that he should set off to the forest and look for a pokemon to battle, it was after a beautiful location. He took a few steps before he noticed something, close by was what appeared to be a pokeball rolling around, however on closer inspection he found it was a pokemon. He pointed his Poketech the the pokemon in order to get some infomation:

Voltorb the Ball Pokemon
Usually found in power plants, Voltorb are easily mistaken for a Pokéball, and as such they have zapped many people. Voldtorb are extremely sensitive and will explode at the slightest of shocks. It is rumored that it was first created when a Pokeball was exposed to a powerful pulse of energy.

"Okay, so they explode at the slighest of bumps. It's a good pokemon but I don't think that an exploding pokemon would be good for my team," Avalon said turning off his Poketech. "I'll look for something in the forest, maybe a nice Caterpie or perhaps even an Ekans, those would be great." Feeling that he had said something wrong he looked at Rammy and Nails "Of couse all of my pokemon would be great, even you, whoever you are" he said rubbing the side of the egg in his arms. He began to walk towards the forest surrounding the town leaving the ball pokemon behind him. "We won't stray too far just in case we need to make a dash into town, for some reason or another," he explined to Rammy and Nails as they followed, Rammy with a slightly slow thud thud and Nails with his pitter patter with occassional stops to wait for Rammy.

Rammy and Nails were sure having fun moving around. So was Voltorb; rolling around was tons of fun! Yeah, if it rolled for too long it would get a bit dizzy, but being dizzy could be fun too. The best rolling fun came when it went down a hill; with no effort whatsoever it sped up to an incredible velocity and once it hit flat land it could keep up that pace with a bit of work. There were few pokemon faster than a rolling Voltorb when gravity was on its side.

The fact that it was coming towards you was purely coincidental, as Voltorb was paying no attention whatsoever as to where it was going. All it knew was that the ground was relatively flat, so if it really wanted to have some real fun it had to find a downhill slope. Instead, if found itself being bounced about by shards of rock on the ground; not a pleasant sensation. Just as it cleared the shards though, Voltorb hit something else hard but a lot bigger: Rammy.

Try as he might, Rammy wasn’t as fast as you or Nails and he certainly wasn’t as fast as a Voltorb. Upon impact Voltorb bounced back and then stopped, looking for the thing it had hit. When it saw Rammy it groaned inwardly. Great, another rock. Rammy wasn’t a true rock, but his body was hard as one, so that was how Voltorb saw him. Grumbling to itself, it hopped over Rammy and continued rolling until it hit something else-you. Now Voltorb was getting a bit annoyed with all the obstacles it was running into. “Voltorb!” it snapped irritably, hoping you’d get your big feet out of its way. Well? Are you just going to stand there?!

( I feel it is my obligation to point out that Voltorb is in fact genderless. So the typical rule is to use the male term to describe undefined things.)

As Avalon walked down the street, he was unaware of the Voltorb approaching him at high velocity. Unaware of course until it rammed... Rammy and bounced to a steadily dizzy halt. Avalon turned his head to see the small orb give an angry growl and continue to roll bumping against Avalon's feet and getting very annoyed, expressing it with an annoyed "Voltorb!" After Avalon had done a quick equation in his head, Voltorb + Anger = Explosion = Injury, he stepped aside and allowed him to pass. Nails ran to Avalon's feet right away and aggressivly posed, even if it ment certain doom he was willing to protect Avalon ast any cost, and Avalon found this both noble and heartfelt. Rammy however, entered the defensive/inquisitive stage with the 'I will cautiously see what you are before engaging it any form of friendship or hate' attitude that made Avalon so proud of him.

Avalon was starting to wonder if this pokemon liked him, despite the angered tone in his voice. Avalon did see a possibility of an electric type on his team, but if an electric type was in the egg he carried it may in the future give the relationship static. Or it could be benificial, Voltorb would be alot tought than the pokemon and therefore would probably act as a mentor to the little one. Avalon was concerned. If he wanted the Voltorb to join him he might have to battle it which he didn't want to do because he wanted to get to the forest, he could offer it the chance to join him or allow it to continue rolling around town. Rammy was still asking questions to himself like "What is it?" and "Is it friendly?" while Nails stood guard at Avalon's feet.

Avalon had a tough decision to make, many different things could happen, he hoped he could make the right one. So without further thinking he spoke to the pokemon. "I'm sorry we got in your way Voltorb," he said kindly "We did not see you coming and Rammy is sorry too." He hoped Voltorb would forgive him, "We're heading out to the forest, if you want to come with us then follow along, if not then be on your way wherever it is you want to go," he turned and started walking away towards the forest once more. Before going to far he called back to Voltorb "It's your choice!" and he waited for the response watching carefully.

When you first stepped aside Voltorb considered rolling once more…but was quite sick of running into things and instead looked around, searching for more obstacles that he’d better avoid. Rocks, rocky pokemon, a human’s feet…what next? Hmm…everything looked okay, although Voltorb was willing to bet the second it began to roll again something or someone would step into its path.

At the sound of your voice it turned and saw your pokemon hovering protectively around you. It didn’t care, personally. Despite the fact that you and your pokemon had spoiled its fun, Voltorb wasn’t inclined to battle. There were better things to do today than that; a battle would involve more banging into things, which Voltorb wasn’t fond of. He was pretty sure that a battle would only break out if he attacked you though, something he wasn’t planning on (more collisions, ugh).

Thus, he listened to you as you apologized and then invited him along on your trek into the forest. A forest…lots of trees, logs, stumps, rocks, and pokemon…he’d be constantly running into things. Come to think of it, Voltorb couldn’t recall ever having been in a forest, preferring to be out in the open so it could roll with ease. It might be interesting to see what a forest was like, and if it had to travel through a forest it might as well do so with you guys.

By now you had gone ahead and were waiting for Voltorb. It looked at you, pondering. Eh, why not? Adventure could be just as much fun as rolling. “Voltorb!” it cried decisively and rolled to catch up to you (but not too fast!). Voltorb came to a stop at your feet and flipped itself upright. It looked at you, waiting. If you were going into the forest, then what were you standing around for?

Avalon watched the Voltorb roll towards him, and smiled softly, when it stopped at his feet it seemed happy. All that was left for it to do was tag along for a while, and watch Avalon, and then make the decision whether or not to join him. Avalon saw reflected in that shiny read orb a boy of hope, and in Voltorb's eyes a pokemon of determination. Of course this was only the young mans oppinion, Voltorb just ight surprise him.

He looked around. Rammy was happily plodding along enjoying the walk and Nails was doing little flips and the like, he certainly was and athletic little guy. Avalon decided that it was time to right some thing in his journal, so he took out his pen and book from his bag and drew a little box roughly. He then wrote in the box a few dot points: 'Going to the Forest. Will write sightings in as they appear. Hoping to catch a grass and or psychic type.' and with that note written he put the book and pen back into his bag. And bent down giving Voltorb, Rammy and Nails a gentle pat on the head, his glove protecting him for Voltorb's electic charge.

"Well little one, I hope that you decide to join us. If not, well its your decision after all." He straigtened himself and turned to wards the forest. "Onward to the forest!" he called and stode of with all three pokemon in tow.

Well you now had a Voltorb that was following you around and as annoying as the thing was, it seemed to take a liking to the rest of your team. During your scenic walk into the forest, your pokemon were doing aerial flips and overall enjoying themselves. However, during that walk, both Nails and Rammy were sizing up the Voltorb and wondering what kind of pokemon was it; nice or mean, cruel but cunning? It was a little difficult to tell since he was just rolling around, and they were tired of trying to size up Voltorb by the time you reached a nice tree-trunk and began to sit down and write in your journal.

Soon enough, you had your journal out and you were ready to write in it, which you did. It seemed as if you were looking for a grass and psychic pokemon for your team. Both types were essential to the development of a strong team. Once you were finished writing in your journal, you then reached down and patted Voltorb, Nails, and Rammy. Each pokemon seemed to enjoy the touch of your hand; none more so than Voltorb who was happy to be a part of the 'group' now. Now, Voltorb was eager to prove himself to you and it appeared that soon enough something would come your way.

From high above you, you heard a faint 'hooting' sound. It was distant and it wasn't at the same time. What sort of pokemon made such a sound? Could it be? A Dragonite! No, it wasn't a Dragonite, it was something that Voltorb could fight reasonably well and something that you indeed wanted to add to your team; it was that elusive Psychic pokemon that you came to the forest to look for. In the tree that you were under sat a Hoothoot regarding you and the rest of your team with a keen interest. You could either leave it be or send Voltorb after it; Voltorb would probably interject if there was a fight that he couldn't be apart of anyway.

Voltorb seemed to like Avalons motion of affection. He did indeed feel that all pokemon were great, even the few that he disliked had their good qualities. He had managed to transform Nails into a well behaved Nidoran after about a day, so whose to say he couldn't come to like this explosive little ball of fun on his team. He had alot of pokeballs: three his father had given him, and five others that he had found just by luck. He wouldn't be surprised that he would leave the forest with a belt filled with pokemon. Illegal as it was, he may even use all ten of his pokeballs and then take the pokemon to the pokemon center to deposit them in his PC for later use.

"Hoot" came a faint call from above.

Avalon followed the noise with his blue eyes, hoping that it was what he thought it was. Sure enough his eyes came to rest on a pokemon, a Hoothoot, one of his favourites. He pointed his Poketech at it just to get some info.

Hoothoot are largely nocturnal. It switches the leg it is standing on so fast no one can see it move. It has an organ which acts as an internal clock, allowing this pokemon to keep perfect time. Incidentally, it hoots at the exact same time every day.It always stands of one foot, even when being attacked it will never brace itself with its other foot.
It was the perfect oppourtunity for both Avalon and Voltorb. The Hoothoot was strong, but Avalon felt comfortable in his decision. He would send Votorb after it. So he went into his state of action.

"So Voltorb, If you really feel like proving yourself then here is your change, I'm going to try and lure Hoothoot down with some pokemon food from my bag. If he takes the bait, then Tackle him followed with another for good measure." Avalon said to Voltorb, reeaching into his bag and pulling out a few bits of pokemon food which he scattered in front of him. He crossed his fingers as well.

  • What a fortuitous encounter! To be able to write a simple whimsy down and then see it realized – Avalon is one lucky child, certainly. In fact, luck was most definitely upon this aspiring coordinator. Encountering two Pokemon almost instantaneously proved that fact correct.

But, when dealing with the risky game of chance there are always repercussions, though this, of course, is mostly common sense. Hoothoot was not a species known to simply walk in unguarded and feast upon the offerings of others - they kept to the night with solemn deftness, choosing seclusion over the alternative. Just like the owl they portray they symbolize intelligence and integrity, and this particular Pokemon seemed the archetype of both these characters. He stared down from the tree limb he perched upon with eyes the color of an autumn tree; they burned with the intensity inherent in predatory birds.

His observations of you thus far were poor at best. All this Hoothoot saw were three stray Pokemon, all of whom were potential enemies, and you: a human whom peculiarly supplied food out of the blue. The seemingly one-legged creature suspected an ulterior motive, that was certain, but with courage akin to that of a bald eagle's it glided down anyway. Certainly a brave action for a Pokemon so outnumbered, but of course it kept it's distance. He stayed close to the tree, tucking against the trunk after his foot hit solid ground. Obviously distrustful, he simply stared at you, then to Nails and Rammy, then finally at Voltorb (who was throwing ramshackle charges every which way, certainly out of excitement or even eagerness). Hoothoot made no move for the Pokemon chow.

And he didn't need to, for after only a few seconds of the awkward look-around Voltorb spun off. It was of course aiming to heed your orders, premature as its actions may have been. The winged Pokemon was expecting something, though it had weighed too heavily on the attack being an all-out frenzy and not a single, wild assault. By the time he had lifted his wings for flight Voltorb was upon him - the spherical creation bashed right into Hoothoot, who then hit hard back against the trunk of the tree. He muttered a feeble, "HOO-oo.." before all the oxygen was forcibly stricken from his lungs. While Voltorb withdrew to begin his second round the wheezing and breathless Hoothoot hopped around in a vague and haphazard fashion, as if the blow had temporarily disoriented him. It didn't take long, though, for this feral Pokemon to come to his senses - at least enough for a hasty retreat. He let his wings furl open and then beat at the air franticly, obviously ready to dodge by all means possible. This was enough to save him from Voltorb's oncoming Tackle, but just barely; Hoothoot's foot had been nicked while Voltorb was in motion (which screwed up his flying, so now he was floating crazily in the air, still wheezing and desperate).

Ah yes, Hoothoot's wisdom, intelligence and curiousity is what he loved about the round little ball of feathers. He would absolutley, imperatively capture a Hoothoot, he loved their grace. The careful way they ate, yes even their eating habits, was entralling to him, and most of his favourite pokemon were forest dwellers. It was about time for an attack as Hoothoot glided to a stop on one foot, not toughing the few morsels of food, just staring. Then, out of the corner of his eye he saw Voltorb roll towards Hoothoot. The first Tackle was a sucessful hit, winding the pokemon against the tree trunk.

The second hit, not so good, but enought to mess up the flying pokemon's feeble attempt at fleeing and Voltorb was close by too. Avalon searched his memory for an attack that could be used, when he thought of a plan, he let it out. "Voltorb, I want you to use Body Slam, hopefully you can pin down Hoothoot and maybe paralyse him with your Static," he said. In any ordinary situation it would have worked, but he was doubting its effectiveness. "If you are not able to pin him down, hit him with another Tackle," he added, thinking that that might tie up any loose ends. My the ends justify the means, he would just have to see. He watched the owl flap about in the air just above the ground, and thoght to himself Oh yeah, what an awesome future teammate.

"Voltorb!" the little round Pokemon said excitedly. This was WAY more fun than bumping into obsticles! It was almost as fun as rolling at top speed down a really steep, clear hill! He bounced up and down a couple of times, getting good and ready, then launched itself surprisingly high up into the air.

It surprised the Hoothoot too, who simply didn't have the time to get out of the way. The red and white ball came falling out of the sky, or at least the branch above it, and knocked the Hoothoot to the ground in a small cloud of feathers. Now, while this was definately painful for the Hoothoot, it didn't knock it out. There was a sharp crack, then another one as the little owl used a vicious couple of Pecks on your little friend.

Voltorb rolled away with an unhappy sound, but seemed to be more injured in pride than in body. And at some point during that little epic scuffle of the Round Pokemon... Voltorb's Static had kicked in, and the Hoothoot's feathers were sticking up all on end, and it looked like it was having a hard time moveing.

Paralaysis, excellent, that bought Avalon some time, in most cases. Maybe this was an ideal time to teach Voltorb a new move, something that may end this battle quickly if he plays his cards right. Avalon thought to himself: 'According to the pokedex, Voltorb has alot of electrical energy stored in its body. So I believe an electrical attack such as Spark is plausible.' He took out his sketch book which had a pen in the spine and began jotting down a few notes, these would halp later. He turned back to the battle, he was a fast writer and a fast thinker.

"Voltorb, listen to me carefully please. You have a very nice supply of electrical energy in your body, lets use this to our advantage." Voltorb seeed to be listening, he had no ears so it was hard to tell, but both Rammy and Nails were listening and watching. "Focus of that energy, feel the flow of the energy, allow your self to slow it down. Then focus it into a surging mess and then run at Hoothoot with a Tackle." Voltorb seemed to slow, "Just before you make contact with Hoothoot, release the electrical energy. Hopefully it will become Spark."

Avalon smiled, he was growing attached to Voltorb but knew he would probably not be best for his team. He was a battler at heart and deserved a good trainer with an atitude like him. The vision of a Voltorb on stage with him didn't look very graceful, and he already had a hard hitter, Nails. So he decided that after the battle he would ask the Voltorb if he would like Avalon to find him a suitable trainer companion.

Back to the Hoothoot, he thought their was no bird pokemon more majestic and wise than a Noctowl. Hoothoot would be a good edition to his team; he had already chosen a nickname for him as well. Now the vision of a Hoothoot and Nails on stage was better than that of a Voltorb and the image of the majestic Noctowl and the dominant Nidoking was picture perfect; a kodak moment. He thought about the rest of his team too, whatever they were he guessed Rammy would not really be suited for contests. Maybe he could just be their for morale support, if the judges allowed him on stage that is. Avalon looked around at his pokemon and then back to the battle to watch the events unfold.

There is plenty to say, so I may as well get right to it. Move teaching during a battle is not usually wise to do, but in this case, I'll make an exception. It will help you win this battle, that is, if Voltorb can successfully learn Spark. It sure as heck is going to try its best.

The Hoothoot before you stood on one leg, looking rather uncomfortable due to the Paralysis. Small sparks could be seen arcing across his little body. Then, after listening to your idea, Voltorb followed through by focusing its electricity into one small point. It then rolled to gain speed before launching into the air to get some extra power into its attack. Hoothoot tried to move but was stuck in place. His muscles were not responding. Just before impact, Voltorb released the stored electricity around its body and then hit. Hoothoot cried out in pain before getting smashed into the ground. Voltorb rolled over to you feeling quite proud of itself. It had not quite mastered Spark, but that was a very good attempt on the first try. A little fine tuning and Voltorb will have its first offensive electric attack. Hoothoot slowly got up but still couldn't attack, so he stood there trying to figure out what he would do next round.

I'm sure you were pleased with those results, but at the same time, you were wondering about the egg you had. Sure, you have only had it a short while, but something may be happening with it. You get it out and hold it close to warm it. At first, you don't notice anything, but then a few small movements alerted your attention. You waited a bit and it moved again. Hmm, well, it will take some time yet, but not too terribly long. Anyway, what will you do now?

Zippity zappity ker-zap. Avalon could not be more pleased with the events that unfolded in the battle. Not only had Voltorb practically mastered the attack already, but he had done a considerable amount of damage and had taken virtually none in return. Hoothoot was also struggling with paralysis, which wasn't being helped by Voltorb's static at all, but it was great news for Avalon. Avalon felt that one more Spark attempt should be enough to end this battle and finally teach Spark, he was well on his way to becoming a top co-ordinator. Avalon then decided that the egg might be a bit lonely so he picked it up and hugged it to keep it warm. It moved in his hands an a rush of excitment rushed over him when he felt it a second time.

"Don't worry little one, once you hatch, I'll take great care of you." He whispered to the egg. He directed his attention back to the battle. "Okay Voltorb, try the same strategy again but really focus on that energy and hit Hoothoot full strength," he called, "But try not to kill him." He added this last bit when a thought ran through his mind, an electrocuted Hoothoot wasn't a good pokemon for a battling team, let alone a contest team. He brought his attention back to his egg, and once agin his mind wandered thinking about what could be inside. An Eevee? They were pretty rare, so having an Eevee egg in his hands was kind of uplifting, assuming it was an Eevee egg. It could be a Wurmple egg, they were common, in fact Avalon thought he could see some in the trees above him. While Wurple would still be nice he hoped that the pokemon was something a little rarer. With thouse thoughts over, Avalon unclipped a pokeball from his belt readying himself for a capture.

The pokemon inside your egg is a mystery. However, after another day or so, I'm sure you will have the answer you are hoping for. The creature inside might not be exactly what you want, but there is always a chance, isn't there? Anyway, there is a battle to finish up, so let's get to it.

Voltorb looked ready to roll, but Hoothoot still seemed to be struggling with his movement. So, Voltorb listened intently to your words, but more specifically your warning. One well placed Spark attack and it could be extra crispy owl for dinner. The pokeball imitator responded curtly before rolling into the physical attack to come. Hoothoot Growled at the incoming sphere, decreasing its attack power, or so Hoothoot thought. Voltorb has the nice little Soundproof ability, making such vocal attacks useless. The wise owl would soon find that a proper Spark attack would make all the difference in this battle.

Voltorb rolled forward and sprung into the air again and attempted to fall right on Hoothoot. The bird tried to move, but the Paralysis held him in place. Voltorb released the pent-up electricity and felled the bird in one shot. There is very little that Hoothoot could do at that point except for being caught. You quickly responded by throwing the pokeball in your hand. It hit the owl and sucked him inside with a flash of light. The ball rocked for a few moments before making a nice little bell noise. Congradulations, you've captured Hoothoot. Well now, what will you do about that Eevee? Will you search the forest or go back to the Pokemon center to get these two back to full health? The choice is up to you.

EDIT: Voltorb gained 13.3 :exp , grew to Level 8 and learned Sonic Boom. Hoothoot gained 3.8 :exp .

(I'll edit your profile shortly, and since you want Shad to do the Eevee quest, I'll leave that to him.)
