Royal Referendum Later in the year, Danes will have the chance to vote how the royal succession of Denmark works. Since the dawn of time, the eldest son of the monarch has been the heir to the throne of the country. Now, the Danish people will be able to vote whether or not to allow the eldest child, regardless of gender to inherit the throne. 'It isn't an issue right now that Prince Christian is the first-born child and heir. But we thought it was appropriate to change the law at a point where it wasn't about a particular person and instead about the principle,' said the prime minister. At least 40 percent of the population must go to the polls in September for the referendum to be valid, and at least half must vote for the proposal to warrant the change. ![]() Not quite sure what Prince Frederik is doing there.... |

Ekstra Bladet Cup Brøndby IF have won the Ekstra Bladet Cup in a thrilling match against Esbjerg at Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Midfielder Martin Retov's goal in the 85th minute won the game just five minutes after Esbjerg midfielder Søren Rieks scored for his team, allowing Brøndby to hold on for the 3-2 victory. It was the team's first trophy since winning both the cup trophy and league championship in 2005. 'When we play like we did today then we're a team that's good enough to compete in Europe,' defender Max Von Schlebrügge said. 'It's an extremely important win for both the club and its fans.' ![]() I always knew footballers were insane. |

New Energy Towns Announced Minister for the Environment Connie Hedegaard has announced that Copenhagen, Kolding and Skive have been selected as Denmark's first Energy Towns. These were selected from the hundreds of towns submitted by the local government of each of the country's municipalities, and according to Mrs. Hedegaard; "It was a tough job!" In order to become an energy town, it must be a model town in terms of energy and climate, including low carbon emissions and a high civilian use of renewable energy and clean waste disposal. It has to be committed to making a strong effort in this area, which is well thought out and ambitious, both on a national and international scale. Skive or Kolding will soon be twinned with Japan's first energy town. ![]() Wow. This picture of Kolding was from a Japanese website. Coincidence? |
