If all goes well, they will receive canidate status in 2009.

It borders ONE EU country - Greece. Albania doesn't fit all the requirements for EU membership - it needs to improve and adapt to EU regulations before it can fully join. AND it needs to enter talks with the EU like Croatia has to secure membership.

They can sort out their problems while they're candidates, like Croatia, Macedonia and Turkey are doing/have done.
