Russia believe that the situation in Somalia is reaching levels that are posing a threat to regional security and trad via the red sea, this situation is unacceptable and Russia believes that the UN should intervene in the region to ensure stability.

"We belive a direct UN intervention by force is not the answer, lest we repeat the events of what happened last time the uN intervened in Somolia, we must seek diplomatic means to secure peace"

Diplomacy can only go so far, it has failed to bring peace in Somalia for the past 16 years, while the comitment of militayr force shouldn't be taken lightly, the fact of the matter is that the situation in Somalia is destabilising the area and the nearby shipping lanes, with the commitment of the breakaway reagion of Somaliland to fight against the federal government in the upcoming conflict it is becoming clearer that outside intervention will be needed to end the bloodshed.

"Indeed, prehaps the root of the problem, atleast to this most recent conflict, is the fact a self governing territory, who by all but law is independent, has not been recognised or an official border set, we could prevent further conflict in the north by taking similar steps as the UN did with Entreana."

"So Britain contents itself not only with breaking territorial integrity in Serbia ,which you refer to as a special case, but also Somalia we wonder how many more special cases the UK can find, when it believes it OK to break international law. We also remind the UK that the successionists started the conflict and should not be rewarded for it."

"The conflict in Somolia started back in the soviet era, caused by outside interfrence, Somolilands case is very very similar to Entreana itself, which the Russian Federation had no problem recognising, if we allow a refferendum by the Somoliland people, as we did back then, it will ensure afreedom of choice for the people involved."

"It is not the UN decision to mandate referendums, that can only be done legitimately by the UN recognised government in Somalia, as Ethiopia did in the Eritrean case, the recent element of the conflict in Somalia that this session was called for was caused by separatist aggression, rewarding them is not an option."

We are not suggesting they be rewarded, simply that it is an eventual resolution to the issue at hand, if peace is to be reached then the UN must do its part to ensure that it ensues, that means that should the situation present itself we must seek a peaceful seperation between the two, since full re-intergration seems impossible at this point.

What we suggest is that the UN security council push for direct talks between the two sides, prehaps a result can be reached there.
