The armed forces of the Kingdom of Denmark, known as the Danish Defence (Danish: Forsvaret) is charged with the defence of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Chief of Defence is the head of the Danish Armed Forces, and is head of the Defence Command which is managed by the Ministry of Defence. Constitutionally, the Commander-in-Chief is the head of state (Queen Margrethe II); in practice, it is the Cabinet. Also, the Cabinet cannot mobilize the armed forces, for purposes that are not strictly defense oriented, without the concent of the Danish parliament, the Folketing.

Transport Aircraft The Ministry of Defense has expressed interest in replacing it's old C-130s. These aircraft have been in service for a long time, and Soren Gade Jensen, the Minister of Defense has said 'We need to look into the future. Can Denmark afford to keep these antiquated aircraft much longer? Although they have proved to be excellent planes, we need to improve our armed forces.' The MoD is looking into possible replacements for these aircraft, including the Airbus A400M. They are of course looking for offers regarding replacements for the C-130s. ![]() One of Denmark's five C-130s. Edited by Denmark, Oct 11 2008, 02:05 PM.

New Patrolboats In The Pipelines Plans have been laid down to construct new patrolboats for the Danish Navy. The plans suggest the need to build new ships to fill a role previously unfilled within the navy, and provide a larger, more powerful patrolboat then anything that has been constructed before in the Danish Navy. This would follow the military's scheme of 'fewer, but more modern ships'. |

Danes Against Nuclear Weapons A recent poll conducted by the Ministry of Defense shows that an overwhelming 76% of the 5,000 people asked across the Kingdom are completely against nuclear weaponry in a common European Defense Policy. France and the United Kingdom are both nuclear powers, and a report from the Western European Union defense alliance suggests the EU should strongly consider adopting a nuclear strategy. WEU is a loose security organisation created by the Treaty of Brussels in 1949. The 28 states belonging to the alliance are categorised as members, associate members, observers or associate partners. Denmark has observer status and, according to the poll, voters are happy to keep it that way. The Minister of Defense says 'It is a good sign that Danes, Faroe Islanders and Greenlanders are against nuclear weapons.' ![]() Nooks |
