Just curious, 'cause it seems to differ from game to game (and player to player, for that matter). I like to write a paragraph or two at least. I think that's the bare minimum, really, it's not hard to string a few sentences together. But I also self-impose an upper limit of around 500 words (or a screenful of text on my screen) because I really hate having to scroll down to finish reading a post... sometimes my posts are longer, I think the one I wrote in Lea Monde a week or so ago (ish) capped out at a screen and a half, but mostly I manage to stick to it. What about you guys? |

Well, it depends really for me. If it's been awhile since I've posted in a game, then the posts tend to be quite large. And, if I have a lot to say, with a lot of descriptions, they tend to be pretty large. At times, though, they are quiet short. Like you, I like to stick to at least two paragraphs, and I think I do that pretty good. However, I also like to write longer posts. I don't know why, but I think I feel as though I accomplish something when I have a long post. :p |

If it's been awhile since I've posted in a game, then the posts tend to be quite large. Yeah come to think of it that's true for me too. More's happened, so there's more to respond to, or I have to retcon things for my character, :p so the post ends up being longer. But ... how long is long? One page, two, four? Personally I draw the line at two pages ... much longer than that and I find I don't even read it, I skim to the end and read the last couple of paragraphs. That's actually the main reason why I like to keep my posts to a page or so, because any longer and I tend to ADD out. :p |

Hmm.....for me it depends what I'm posting to. I can pretty much agree to a two paragraph minimum. Any less is clear evidence that I did not put any thought whatsoever in that post. But like Nem, I like longer posts because I like character development and I enjoy telling the reader about the character's experience and how he or she is feeling about the current situation, etc. Mood is very important as well as the story plot, so generally my posts would tend to be longer than most because of these factors. I'd say my post would average four to five paragraphs. Uhm..Ok, six or seven. :p However, I try to refrain from make them so long as to turn someone off from reading it. This is impossible for me when it comes to GM updates. They usually turn out to be monstrosities ( I blame LSA, LOL ). Believe me, I've tried to be concise, but to no avail. The problem these huge GM updates have created, ( that I've noticed anyway), is that players tend to skip over other players updates and read only their own updates, thereby missing important bits of story development I always put in in each player's scene. In the end, they are only experiencing 'part' of the game and not the 'whole', which saddens me, cause unless you're like Ktala and read the WHOLE UPDATE ( she's the only one who's consistently done so as far as I know ), players WILL miss out on important plot developments. I'm still trying to figure out how to solve that. Besides that, I totally refuse to read anything longer than a page from any single player. No way your post has to be bigger than the GM's update. Nope, not reading it. :p |

*shiftyeyes* Uhm, guilty, I'm afraid. :P I do that with every game, and yes, it's a habit from IBOP on my end as well ... I've been trying to break it, but what I usually end up doing is just re-reading through the game thread some other time to follow other people's storylines, rather than reading them when they're posted. I like my posts to be at least two paragraphs, or one large paragraph in some cases. Ideally much more, but it tends to get shortened during conversations and the like, simply because if it goes on too long you run out of things to elaborate on beyond what your character is saying, and not all characters are especially wordy. |

Really, it depends on game and character, and sometimes specific desires of the post. I've been known to have a few pages of text (in a word doc) in one RP post, because I'm setting things in motion and giving a lot of information to establish a character, idea, or scenario. I've also been known to have just a simple paragraph, if I'm just responding to action and quick posting. I don't know that there's a definitive answer here, to be honest. It's depends on so many factors. |

wow. you have more patience than me! I'm afraid that unless it all fits onto one page, i'm rather intimidated by it and won't read it. unless of coarse it's a SUPER GOOD rp! :p |

Well, to be entirely honest, it depends on the post quality. :p When I say two pages I really mean "two pages of good writing" - if the writing's bad, which happens a lot even among good RPers, I spazz out earlier. |

If you ever happen to GM a game, you'll be challenged with reading it all. The long, the short, the good, the bad and the plain horrific!! Trust me, I know! :p |

To tell you the truth...that's one reason why I don't GM. I don't want to have to sift through 15 posts a day or something. I would if I wasn't so busy in life, though. |

Just adding in my two credits worth: Personally, Id at least like to see a paragraph or two, on most responses. Anything less, dosent give anyone who is with that character anything to respond to. And im sure most GM's..*I KNOW I DO*..would like to have more than a two line sentence from a player, after you've written a long bit of dialog for the character... That being said, my posting size is USUALLY determined on whats going on around my character. If there is nothing for me to post...and that has been often, I tend to go into character insights, while waiting for the GM or something to happen. But If nothing continues to keep happening, then my posts get shorter and shorter, to the point I simply stop posting. :maul: Its really hard to have interaction with characters, unless there is something there to respond to. *Dissapears * :D |
