:D Alrighty folks!

At the lead, it seems that many would like to gain some more tips hints, and discussions on how to portray a Dark Lord of the Sith, so we shall focus on that first.

Is there any Masters out there, willing to discuss, and share their ideas? If so, please PM me..so we can get this ball rolling.

I have an idea in mind....

Discussion will move to another area, once that has been decided..

So stay turned.

And if you have any OTHER suggestions for ideas you would like to see, then speak up!
This is only as active as you make it.

The only thing I consider myself decent at is dueling, everything else is about average IMO and don't know if I would feel comfortable actually teaching someone.

I used to think I was really good, but I have been way more critical about my writing lately. :P

On that note, I really loved your RPR thread about the different aspects of the Force and Force using groups. That should really help a lot, and I found myself thinking about various things after reading it.

Manticore's Dojo is something I really want to sink into, but am forced to wait until work settles down a bit so I can dedicate some time towards it. Hopefully I can start this weekend, which is already a week later than I had originally hoped for.

This is kind of completely off-topic, but about being self-critical in terms of writing -

I used to do this a lot. A lot. It got to the point where it was simply impossible for me to write something I was happy with enough to post, so I ended up posting ... well, exactly nothing ... because the prospect of trying to write something I deemed "good enough" to post was so daunting.

But the thing is, for most of us, we are our own worst critic. You might not think your writing is good, and maybe it's not to the level of say Tolkien or [insert your favourite author here], but you probably are better than you think you are. So well ... let up on yourself a little, don't think of RPing as a commitment you need to dedicate x amount of hours to, think of it as a hobby and fool around some.

And yes, I realize this flies into the face of the whole continual improvement thing, but ... it's a balance, I guess?

You do make some valid points there. It seems you have been through exactly what I am trying to deal with lately, because I start games and then stop them all the time because I think I am sucking arse. Then I feel guilty about quiting, and then actually get scared about joining new games because I don't want to bail on even more.

It got the point where I don't really even play at all any more, which sucks because I love roleplaying. Most recently I started playing in Lea Monde, but stopped almost right away....partly because of time constraints....partly because I was falling into the same trap of being disappointed with what I was writing.

It is frustrating for sure. Maybe I will try to do as you suggest and keep in mind that I am doing this for my enjoyment, and try to stop beating myself up about every little thing I think is substandard.

Yeah. It was - well, a combination of factors that led to me disappearing from IBOP years ago, not just any one thing, but being way too perfectionistic was definitely a big one.

I still do it, I re-read posts I made last year (or a few months ago, or a few days ...) and I'm like ... omg, I suck. But I guess it's just a matter of relaxing a little, being okay with not writing the perfect post every single time ... maybe set a time limit on how long you spend writing a post if you find you're doubling your writing time by nitpicking (which I do endlessly, I'm even nitpicking this one: damn unlimited edit times!). Let yourself screw up sometimes. Stuff like that.

(Screwing up can be fun actually. :p IC tactical blunders lead to character development opportunities. Or death, but let's face it, that's rare.)

Or you could be heading into burnout territory which is ... also not fun, and a bit harder to fix.

*shrug*

Main idea is just to let up on yourself, I guess.
