unfortunately, IBoP started up right as my time crunch started. I had a character, but didn't get to do too much with him. That was a bummer.

And, yeah, love the podracer games. Kavark came in second place in the standings and the championship race in the first one.

Wow.....first RPG on TFN? hmm.....I'd have to say it was THE NEW DARK TIMES, a game Gmed by GreyJediAntarFodoh. I believe it was more of a sith than a jedi game set in a SW AU. I, of course, played a Monk! ( what a surprise! :p ) Hehehe. I remember the game fondly, not because it was my first, but because Antar was really an awesome GM in his own right, though he remained in obscurity. ( I envy him really, lol ). TNDT was a great training ground for me, prior to joining what we today hail as the legendary games BoP and IBoP, GM'ed by LSA. I must say that for me, it was a distinct pleasure and honor to Co-GM the Force Users Faction in IBoP. I think I really evolved there, both as a player and as GM.

I think finding a post for either game so many years later might prove challenging, but I'm eager to see if such a thing is actually possible. I won't mind re-reading some of the exciting events that took place in either of those games. Those were really good times in the RPF.....(sigh).

But yeah, I am still hopeful that such greatness can be achieved/ attained once again in the near future.

Interesting thread.

My first experience in the RPF was in creating this game. My first post was....

~stops the bombardment of rocks~

O.K, Jedi it is time to leave this Temple. The next time I see you here it will lead to violence and pain, and the next time you see a Sith in your temple it will be to cause you suffering. From here forward it is war with no mercy.

~summons the Dashade unit commader~

You now have orders to attack the Jedi on sight, use all the resources at your command.

~I begin to contemplate the comming days and wonder what opportunities will be gained from this war~I look into the sky as I often do when deep in thought~instead notice Jaid standing on one of the tall towers~

Hmm....I sense that the Dark Side is strong in that one, and I still do not know what it is that brought her to us. I have always liked a good mystery.

~I watch Jaid for a short while longer~with a shiver I draw my heavy black cloak in to protect myself from the biting wind and slowly walk back towards the Temple~

In looking back at that and many other early posts I can honestly say I sucked. The lure of the RPF is a strong one though, and I have to admit to that being my favorite board on tf.net.

I loved IBOP, I was intending to try to become a Jedi at the time, but I changed my mind later, and let my charater fall to the Dark Side.

Hey Nemisis, remember "Blackthorn"?

Date Posted: 5/1/05 4:29pm Subject: RE: Sith Trials (formerly of the SWC forum)
IC:Blackthorn

As he enters the atmosphere he his getting a feeling that he has never had before. "What is that feeling, I have not had that senation before, but it is very powerful what ever it is." As he flying alone, he sees buildings, but knows that is not where this strong feeling is coming from, so he makes a few adjustments and comes a little closer to the tree tops, where he is just inches from the top of the tallest trees. "Well, looky here", as he comes up to a very large dark castle. It is just huge, It had alot of armaments and canons, he even noticed some ground troop movements,"Man, this place must cover hundreds of acres!. There something drawing me to this place. It is promising me power and wealth. I must land and found out more about this place. Now is to just find a place to land."

Date Posted: 5/27 9:32am Subject: RE: ~Dominion of Darkness: Emergence of the True Sith~
IC: Dark Sun

Time was getting on while she stared at the mess of boulders and fallen rocks. Though she could feel some thing or some one calling her to go up, "Go up where, usually the burial is downstairs not up." Looking at what she had to do also made her think about it. There was a large gap in the stairs going up, how deep was it, truely? She had to find out one way or another, but was it worth it? To her at the time, it was not, the call was there to go up, not down.

Dark Sun pondered the situation for a few seconds longer, then looked back the way she came. The gape did not look so far with a force boost, but was it going to be enough? Her pack would weight her down some, and maybe to much to clear the distance with it. Dark Sun was not one to pass up a calling from a possible Dark Lord who for some reason was buried on top and not down below. "Though this is an old Dark Lord, and a very old tomb," her thoughts mentally thought of all the ancient tomes and possible knowledge that might be found here, that in itself made her decision. Going through her sack and taking out the unneeded items, which lightened the knapsack much, she moved as far back she could and thought her plans out, nodded and ran. Using the force to boost her speed and strength, she started forward. Her speed was good and nearing the edge of drop and threw her bag towards the far end of the other side, and at the last moment leapt off and used what force she had left to help in the jump across the large gap.

Not much difference, I think, any thing I could do better?

My first game was Sith Trials; talk about getting thrown in at the deep end! I was used to RPing on Neopets, where you have a character limit for posts, you're expected to post quickly, there's no edit button, and RPs run over a few hours and are comprised of anyone online who feels like joining in.

Ahhh...my first post. I was decidedly inexperienced, and unfortunate enough to stumble into the Sith Temple as witness to a Vassago/Draconis duel. I was seen, but forgotten due to the intensity of the battle...until I showed up again and was captured by Starkiller for sneaking around. Memories...

I remember being lured into seeking the Temple out by one SithLordPat. He was trying to convince people not to join, and had quoted a speech of the Dark Lord. My natural perversity, and the sentiments in that speech (essentially a declaration of Sith power, dismissing those who left as weaklings who would weaken the Jedi by joining them) were a powerful combination.

My initial entry was one IC sentence, and one OOC.

Quote:

-A battered girl in torn robes stumbles into the sanctuary, looking around quickly.A lightsaber hangs at her side-

Can I join in?

Right before I was captured, and the longest post I made for some time- it went back to two or three sentences afterwards, until I learned better.
Quote:

-The girl moved as one used to hiding as she stared down at the meditating Draconis. She knew she would have to be careful here,as the Sith below was clearly an expert warrior. If she were caught now,she would die. Her thoughts turned to the battle she had witnessed-one had seen her,had spoken to her.The fight had distracted them, and shed been able to creep away. From the shadows, she used the force to lift a pile of papers and place them silently behind the meditating Sith.There. It was done. The information in those papers had been obtained at great cost-the location of two hidden Sith temples forgotten long ago, and the intended position of a Jedi mission base.-

*shudder*Ye gods, I was not a good RPer then.

A more recent post, in Ghost Ship Executor, the murder mystery. A little background; people from many eras are there, I play Dooku, others told him of his fate and he concluded he'd been betrayed. Now he's wavering between sides a lot more, and he suggested finding a way off the ship and changing history. Tholme told him no, then suggested- a large mistake- that he try and redeem Darth Caedus instead. Dooku is currently unsure which side he's on, but everyone else is even more unsure because he has been trying to cultivate connections with everybody to avoid turning up dead like lots of others have been.
Yoda's been trying to talk to him, but it doesn't always work.

Rilwen_Shadowflame

IC: Count Dooku

"You did what you had to do. So did I. We'll do the same here. And then, should the need arise, I will kill you if I must."

Dooku nodded slightly. At least Vos was no longer inclined to kill him outright. The boy had a good grasp on necessity. He hadn't expected much more than this. In point of fact, it was a pleasant novelty to be around someone who laid the facts on the table so openly. The Count was determined, however, that the need would not in fact arise, and unpleasantness could be avoided.

The others left, but Yoda stayed behind. "Walk with me you will, Count?"

Count Dooku shrugged and followed Yoda out, slowing his steps to match those of the ancient Jedi Master. Naturally Yoda would want to speak to him. He couldn't help himself. He just had to give advice.

"Start with clean slate all of us on this ship do. Regrets all of us in life have. Thoughts of changing the future myself I had. Keep Jedi Skywalker from turning I must. Stop Sidious from taking control of Republic I must. Realized my folly I did, when the future beyond my death I learned."

His expression hardened in annoyance. Not more of this, surely? Accept the will of the Force, change nothing, do nothing. Oh yes, they'd started with clean slates, and the Jedi would prefer that nothing ever was written on those slates, no matter whether it was positive or negative action.

"Much good the Son and Daughter of Skywalker accomplished. Much good their descendants will accomplish. Much good from evil beginnings arose. Yet all possible knowledge to ensure good outcome from meddling I had? Prideful I was. Arrogant I was. Control all variables in life one cannot. Fallible beings we are, and fallible beings such as we conrol over such things cannot have. Must not have. Jedi answers do not have. Sith answers do not have."

Then why, a part of Dooku demanded to know, was Yoda a Jedi in the first place? His every action changed something, but somehow he wanted things to be different on this ship.

"Certain that sending proposed message will lead to effect wished for you are, hmmm? If focus on helping us get all people out of present situation you do, much more good will you accomplish."

"Of course I am not certain. But then, how do you know it won't do what it should? You don't know, any more than I do." Dooku sighed in frustration. "We must be here for a reason. None of us know why. Those Nebulans might even have been telling the truth, that we are copies. Master Yoda, I. Do. Not. Care. I am here, in whatever way it happens to be, and I will act according to what I believe. If I don't, then I am less myself than any copy could ever be."

Faint hints of malice crept into his aristocratic tones. "Besides, aren't you meddling already in trying to influence me? Or is the fact that my death has come and gone such a comfort to you? My fate is locked in stone, not to be changed, according the the doctrine you and Master Tholme have been using. Is that the only way you can change things? You want me to be the Jedi again, and fall into line once more. And at the same time you tell me nothing can be changed. What, then, is the point? Why should I pursue matters as you wish them, when it will all mean nothing at the end? I'll be dead, here or there, and it will be as though I never tried to be anything else, no matter what I do." He stared at Yoda, feeling that terrible emptiness of despair returning. If they were right, no matter what he did, it would mean nothing. Why would they not let him alone, then? If nothing could be changed, why did they keep seeking change from him? "Where is the point?" The question slipped from him once more, a hollow echo.

Rather a large improvement, I'd say.
(No, I don't regard my Dooku portrayal as OOC; he has been through an absurd amount of crazy stuff in-game to get to this point. ;) )

omg lol Neopets! I was so into that when I was eleven or twelve, back in the day when the games cupboard was a single picture of a cupboard and you clicked on different parts of it to go to different games, not the Flash monstrosity it is now.

... I'll shut up now.

[/off-topic]

jedi_killeroak: Okay, since you asked ... let's go through your "Now" post.

Disclaimer: all of the following is IMHHO, none are meant as flaming, you are free to agree/disagree, etc. I am trying to help, take it however you will.

First thing that stands out is, you're not bolding your IC/TAG lines. You don't have to, but IMO the bold tags call attention to it better - especially if the person you're tagging is in a hurry and scrolling over the thread looking for tags.

Tactically, seems sound. I don't know the context, but based on your post, your character is in some ruined tomb; the way ahead is blocked by a cave-in; there is a gap in the stairs that she passed on the way there - so you made the decision to lighten the pack and Force-jump the gap. That said, I would have just kept the pack on Dark Sun's back and jumped with it, because it takes a lot less energy to jump with added weight than toss a knapsack across and jump the gap at the same time. Physics, Newton's Third Law - every action has an equal and opposite reaction - tossing the knapsack across would have put a big dent in your forward momentum. If you wanted to do that, you should have hurled it across and then taken a running leap. Your GM would probably have let you succeed either way, but it's more realistic.

RP-wise, I think you do a pretty good job of going through your character's thoughts here. She feels the pull to go up although logically she reckons it makes more sense to go down, ponders it for a while, makes a choice and does it. Nice, neat, concise. All good. I like it.

Writing-wise ... this is where I get nitpicky. Sorry. You need to install a spellchecker (it's "truly" not "truely", and I think you mean "gap" not "gape" and "weigh" not "weight" although a spellchecker won't pick those up either), and proofread your posts (her thoughts mentally thought - you don't need to use "thought" twice here. I also think you're missing a period, but even if so, try not to repeat the word like that). For that matter, it's not clear whether you're using ""s to signify thoughts or speech.

I'd also start all your actions (starting with Going through her sack[...]) on a new paragraph, because that paragraph is a little on the long side and it's a logical "break" point.

However, I must say you did improve from your first. :)

edit - Bah... I can't misspell on purpose, apparently.

This thread was a really good idea. I enjoy reading all these old posts by people. I do hope Manticore can find one of his old posts. Some advice LM: look at your previous posts, click the dropdown menu and go to the RPF. Go to the last page and there you go.

Rilwen, you have definitely improved. :D I am glad to be apart of that improvement inside the Sith Trials!

killeroak, I am going to agree with pretty much everything Xany said. Bold TAGs and IC, is important for looks, IMO. I also underline mine. And your grammar does need some work. ;)

Seeing as I just recently started RPing, we get to laugh now, and praise later, when i get better! lol (this is not my very first post, because it was on the old Jedi Trials offsite, which is no longer open.)

IC: Junna-Li Syphara
Junna-Li Syphara stepped outside the Temple into the twilight-like dawn of Yavin 4. Her destination- a clearing near the river by which she would practice her lightsaber forms. She had recently begun studying Ataru and was looking forward to putting her skills to the test.
Reaching the clearing, she knelt on the carpet-like grass to meditate.
TAG: Anyone

painfully short, i know. in my defence, my RP partner was sitting next to me and we were using a notebook, so i didn't want to make him wait too long! :p but yeah.

Thanks people, on your advice and I will take it all in, and use it all. I agree on my spelling. I am trying to use Microsoft Works- Word Processor to do my checking. Alternatively, is there a better program that I could use or get so I will not have to copy and paste?

Again, thanks for the information.

Are we bring back +The Sith Wars Saga: Sith Trials II+ ? I am still looking forward to it.

Firefox 3 has an in-built dictionary- that's what I use. It doesn't help with grammar, but I find Word's grammar checker is less than useful anyway.

My first RPG was dueling Acheron on the JCC RPF Dueling thread.
DarkLordsDaughter

IC: Darth Helinith
Duelling Arena

Darth Helinith stood on the other side of the arena, and passively observed the Fallen as he walked in.
She carefully unclasped her cloak, folding it and kneeling to place it beside her.

As she turned her back, she unclasped her lightsaber and brought it to her face, glancing up and down the hilt for subtle damage as Vader had taught her. She could not afford for mistakes.
The lightsaber was a lighter version of her Father’s, perfectly suited to the Shien she practiced.
She carefully adjusted the focus, and calibrated the blade to stun.
Most modern lightsabers now had automatic fixings, but she preferred hers 'hands on'. It had seemed an annoyance when Vader had first taught her to do it, but she now knew more about the inner workings of her weapon than most other force sensitives, and the settings could be changed back with a thought through the force.
The blade had never failed her before, and she now knew it like an extra limb.

Satisfied, The Dark Lord's Daughter turned to face her tall opponent, briefly breathing in the smell of rubber from the grips which her Father had helped her place on the metal hilt so long ago.

The smell calmed her nerves and she carefully channelled her fear and hatred; feeling her senses become hyper aware- the force was with her.
Remembering the words of her Father, she activated her lightsaber and took up the Shien back handed attack stance, the glowing red blade acting as the trigger for her pent up emotion which could be contacted in the blink of an eye.

She half smiled, as the force relayed all sorts of information about the room and her opponent to her; the gleaming chrome handle of the blue bladed lightsaber made her own grubby, finger marked weapon look shabby, but secretly told her that the hilt had not as yet, been used for duelling. A slight advantage, over the many factors already against her that she had sensed, but an advantage none the less.

The Ataru attack stance took a moment to identify, and she thought about how to strategically go about defeating her opponent. Clearly, prolonging the fight would be the best way to overcome such an energy intensive form.
She breathed deeply, and considered whether to attack first, or to wait.

Patience, my child…

Kriffing memory of the Emperor.
She made up her mind and suddenly leapt forward towards her opponent, flicking her wrist around so the red blade came up in front of her face.

TAG: Dru-Kak

I loved this duel, it was great fun!
May there be many more in the future!
