Which style of RP do you prefer?

There are a couple different styles of RPing out there. The JC is different from a lot that is out on the web. A lot are message system based, with an entire message board dedicated to the RPG. The JC has simple threads. Which type do you prefter?

For me, I prefer the JC, only because that's what i am most familiar with. Also, it seems to me that a lot of the message board RPGs have the *I slash at you* layout, which I just find annoying. You don't find that much at the JC, which is awesome. :D

I like the JC style because, well, that's the one I'm most familiar with too. It's a bit inconvenient at times though if you're trying to find some info in the thread - some boards have nicer systems where all the character sheets are posted in a thread, announcements (IC or otherwise) in another, and so on.

I don't consider the *attacks you!* format as really RPing, it's more of an informal fun-between-friends kind of deal. It also tends to devolve rather rapidly into godmoding, but that's another matter entirely...

I prefer the JC style, though it was confusing at first due to this (You'll see me in the thread linked here on-and-off: I'm HiddenTruth, otherwise known as 'Hidden' or 'HT'):

But yeah, I tried converting those RPers into IC/TAG format, but... they're barbarians. :(

I actually really like the JC's style of RP'ing,. and the JC was not where I began RP'ing nor was it the one I was most familiar with. IC/Tag system is absolutely amazing, and I hate RP'ing without it now. I've seen few places besides the JC that do that. The forum-based RP's never work, adn they are no fun to play. I like the threads much better. I also like playing fifty different games at once. :p

Yeah, the IC/TAG system is really cool. I like it a lot; it is very convenient. Plus, I like the way I have mine set up, it looks cool. :p

What? Seen you post.....? I don't know...... Oh, yeah, i gotcha. I always just block you out when you post. :p

No, just kidding. And, I must admit, your style doesn't looka s cool when there is no text in the post. :p

I don't like blockquoting so much, mostly because it adds extra newlines at the bottom/top and I can never remember how many exactly. But yeah, I use basically the same layout, cept I do my locations like Place, Planet instead of ~Place - Planet and I don't underline anything - stylistic differences basically. Wonder how the system came about... WOTG, probably.

Chuks: That's not cool man. :(

Xany: Yeah, I guess we do have differing styles. One isn't really better than the other, I'd say. Though, obviously if they were, mine would be the better. :p

I recently started nixing the IC, instead saying:

Of Character's Name in someplace or another

Same thing, though. Say who your character is, where, and who you want to reply.

True. I think I might experiment with other types, though.

I adopted Nick's style soon after joining Genocide.

Call me a suck-up, as you may, but it's more... comfortable? Stylish? Either way, I lke it. :P

I still prefer my style, I just think it looks...stylish as Endor just put it (for his I mean).

To me, the style of the post does matter, actually. No matter what anybody thinks, a more stylish post will get a better reaction than a post that is not stylish in the slightest, do you know what I mean?

I'd say the content of the post is more important than the markups you put around it.

I'd rather read a well-written, well thought out post where the RPer declared character name/location/tags in some standard way (or not at all, even), than a boring one where the author did it with funky colours or whatever. It's just a wrapper; who cares?

edit - to clarify, I'm not saying style is unimportant. You need some "style" to be taken seriously - but beyond basic grammar/spelling and IC/loc/tag conventions (in whatever form you choose), it doesn't matter IMHO. In fact I'd say tack too many markups on and you end up looking way pretentious - go search up Stridarious' posts on the JC if you don't believe me.

Hrm. *bump*

What do you guys think about colours in posts? Some people post entirely in colours (e.g. IBOP-style GM posts, GJ's posts here, and so on), others highlight dialogue in different colours depending on the character who's speaking. Why d'you think people do it? What purpose does it serve? etc...

IMO I think if your a GM and doing more than two groups of stories that kept track of, then yes, I say use them. It helps me knowing if it protains to me or not. If it does then I can watch it more closely, if not, I can come back later to read it.

I try to use "Colors" in my post if it really needs to be high lighted. Though normally I do not.
