Sith Council Master

Ok, a brief vignette, the characters in which will most likely be familiar already. Part of it deals with the aftermath of an event you may find here (part one) and here (part two). **** Amid the ashes they stood, Master and Apprentice. The eyes of the apprentice, pale grey, wide with shock, roved across the carnage. His white-blond hair shone in the chill winter sunlight. "Master, why did they die? We were here...Surely there was something we could have done." His Master sighed. "We are Sith. To save others is not our way. The Galaxy is a cruel place. There are too many victims in it. If we tried to save them, we would be worn away. You can't save everyone. Each person has to fight their own battle...You need to become strong, to avoid becoming one of these victims. Learn well, my apprentice, to save yourself." The younger Sith nodded gravely. "Yes, Master." He thought about that ruined world often...and about his home. About the disease that had come there. About waiting within a sealed suit, unable to help, and about seeing a young girl whisper, "It's not fair. I hadn't finished. I hadn't even started yet..." as her green eyes closed for the last time. "You can't save everyone...Learn well, my apprentice, to save yourself." Years later, on another world touched by pain, he watched another green-eyed young girl mourn. "I'll never be a Jedi now." Rilwen bit her lip. With his help, she had done her best to save the people captured by the raiders. But her best friend was gone, as was her uncle and Master. "It's not fair. I hadn't finished. I hadn't even started yet." Stung by a memory, he extended his hand. "I offered you a chance to find a new way. Do you remember? I said you could be strong." "I remember. You said I could be powerful. You said I could make sure people around me wouldn't get hurt." Grave-faced, Rilwen said, "You told me I wouldn't have to watch them die anymore. I want to learn. Will you teach me?" He nodded. I can't save everyone, he sent the thought to his memories of his dead Master, but I can save this one. I can help her save herself. In the sunlight on Lelldorill, Marek Zidell smiled. *** Ok, I'd welcome comments! :) |
