Temple of Holy Redemption: The Temple of Holy Redemption is a secret cult that dominates western Askiral. The Temple was formed in the 87 of the Age of Reclamation by a group of priests who disagree with the Church’s teachings of Cedor. At the time, the Church was still all powerful and the creation of this sect was considered heresy, so the founding fathers fled underground, to the mining town of Kuro. There they agreed that until the time is right, the group should not convene again. The right time came in the year 104, when the Church was on the verge of falling apart. A small band of priests returned to Kuro and formally declared the formation of the Temple. During those years of exile, the Temple had been secretly gathering support in the poor western portion of the continent. By the time it declared its split from the Church (know as the Great Schism), the Temple had acquired enough support to stand up against the Church itself. It even defeated a huge Church army sent to destroy them. When the Church threat was over, the Temple founded met again at Kuro and decided to elect Chikara to become the Grand Master, the leader of the Temple. They were based in northwest, in a huge citadel called the Tower of Redemption, which sits in the middle of the Infernal Plains. The area is protected by the Westmuck Bog and Lake Deception. Though the names might give the Temple a hint of evil, the Temple’s mission to protect the poor has not been forgotten. Chikara called all believers to launch “Crusades” against the non-believers. These Crusades are planned to strike fear within the fear of the enemy, and its purpose is to acquire land and to add more members into its ranks. The first Crusade was launched in 104 against Port Arnan, but it was a failure. The Temple attacked Valenor also, but was repelled. Starting in 106, the Temple went north, around the Frozen Ranges and descended upon Halcyon Fields from the north. With their Varg mercenaries, they wreaked havoc upon Church lands, leading to the creation of Fort Duro. Starting in 105, Temple attacks on Wraiths began to stop, leading to the belief that Wraiths had infiltrated the Temple, though a vast majority within the Temple refused to believe this. The Temple is currently the third strongest faction on Askiral. The Temple differs from the Church because of two key regions. The first is that the Temple’s policy appeals to the poor farmers, herders, and miners in the west. The Temple often gives out money and supplies to the poor, in return for services and food. Also, Temple healers treat diseases and wounds for free. The Church policies benefit the rich, and Church leaders often grow wealthy. The second and most important difference is the Temple’s version of Cedor. The Church believes Cedor is all powerful and that he left because of the sins the mortals has done. The Church preaches that if you do not believe in the Church, you will not be able to repent your sins, and therefore you will be banished to hell. The Church forces you to believe in them. The Temple on the other hand portrays Cedor as a more kind and understanding god. Though the Temple uses Crusades to convert, they are more relaxed towards other pagan religions. The Temple believes that it is the man (or women)’s choice to go to heaven or hell and if you want to ascend in heaven, then you should believe in the Temple’s teachings. Because of this, more and more people are fleeing to the Tower of Redemption, to join the Temple in their struggle against a corrupt Church.
