![]() Merry Christmas from A Call To Arms! In this festive (vaguely) issue we've got a good bunch of interesting stuff lined up for you as ever, from steampunk to sci-fi and fantasy to the far future. Gaming Review is back with a good tie-in to the continuing world-building series. There are also changes as well as the same old stuff: James Gatehouse has taken over the reins writing Weapons of War for this month, and instead of Math-Hammer we've a set of puzzles and brainteasers for you! Please post your answers here and we'll announce who gets each one right. The economic situation out in the real world is still affecting all our fantasy worlds; price-hikes, linked to the ever-increasing cost of metal are continually changing the ballgame as far as miniature wargaming is concerned. However, there's still plenty to celebrate; innovative wargames are still very much under development, and the increasing amount of free material is increasing in quality too. How this will all pan out, we shall have to see. But that's for another year, and so we're shelving the news this month to let you get on with having a fun Christmas. See you (assuming the world doesn't end) in 2012! CONTENTS Gaming Review: The Return! Through the Eyes of the Other Side: Part 2 World of Twilight Army Spotlight Weapons of War Riddles and Puzzles World Building Guns, Swords, and Steam: Part 17 *EMPIRE* A Warhammer Fantasy Script-fic Edited by James Baillie, Dec 24 2011, 07:15 PM.

Your last rumours thing didn't get in because we didn't get an issue out that month I think... and all your other articles I can find are incomplete except one old BB one which is waiting for us to do a fantasy football themed issue at some point, which I have a couple of other articles planned for. Any entries for the puzzles and riddles? |

OK, here's what I've got so far : 1) A pound coin / Gold Crown etc 2) Hire the wizard who requires payment in gold - the other is clearly too clever/devious for his own good !! 3) Your word 7) An egg (eggses!!) I'll have a think about the others. Thanks for your efforts James and have a Happy New Year. Edited by nwiddeson, Jan 1 2012, 11:49 AM.

Solved some of the codes in 8. 2) is a Caesar shift cipher with an offset of 5, thus reading:"there are forty crossbowmen and sixty axemen in our forces." (I found the offset from the assumption that the second word was 'the', but it turned out to be 'are' on decryption.) 3) Translated this from binary to decimal with a programmer calculator and converted to Latin characters. Thus reads: "We will attack from the north." Wild guess at 9. - an arrow? Edited by DeclanJones, Jan 1 2012, 04:09 PM.

All correct! So, a tally: WN - 1, 2, 3, 7 DJ - 8.2, 8.3, 9 The reasoning for two, mathematically, is that doubling each time is 2 to powers. 2^100 copper pennies would mean paying 12676506002282294014967032053.76 gold crowns for the last task alone; the first wizard only asked for a hundred... Good luck with the others! |
