IN THE NEWS Mantic - Warpath Releases! The sci-fi wargame Warpath, Mantic's answer to 40K as Kings of War was to Warhammer, is in the early stages of being released. The first two armies are "Marauder Orx" - Orc-like brutish beings akin to the Orks - and the "Forge Fathers". These latter are perhaps an answer to the many wargamers who have over the years bemoaned the demise of the Squat force from WH40K. The Orx have a much more mercenary background than the "fight for fun" Orks/Orcs of Games Workshop, with their description saying "For a Marauder, it does not matter who you fight or why, only how much you can pay." The Forge Fathers seem to be classically Dwarven, with heavy weaponry and advanced mining gear. From the Mantic email newsletter, here's a snippet of background as written by Guy Haley... "It had been a costly fight. The Raptor was a smoking wreck close by the complex’s bunker. One of the beardy’s heavy cannons had opened up on them as soon as they broke cover, annihilating Groknuk’s section in a fountain of earth and gore. More Grunts had fallen to the beardy’s small arms fire, but then they’d been in among them, and there was no stopping them..." Necron releases for WH40K It's a battle of the sci-fi in release terms this month, with new Necrontyr appearing from Games Workshop. New unit types appear to be in the offing, with resin "Finecast" models of many Necron troop types as well. Heresy Online Store The old website for Heresy Miniatures has been replaced by a fancy new online store. With many things on offer, the new store can be found here: http://www.heresyminiatures.com/shop/ Pyre Freepost As a nice extra for the festive season, Pyre Studios are offering free shipping on orders over £25 - a worthwhile saving for those wanting to expand their World of Twilight forces and have some Delgon marching through the Christmas snow. Recent releases include Skerrats and baggage-laden Enuk for a trading caravan: http://www.worldoftwilight.com/forum/index.php?topic=1213.0 |
