Hello again. Another tournament batrep from me - James' orders - I'm to do a batrep of my semi-final. Not too bad, as I had a regular slot anyway...
I was 'drawn' by die roll to face Simon Nunn. His Ogres force packed a punch, and he made it through to the semi-finals after an exacting playoff with Tom Dowden.
Both of us were pretty chuffed at playing against each other, as this meant one of us would get to the Final... but it suddenly became a question of who would have the dubious honour of taking what we thought was an inevitable second place.
And so, furious battle commenced!

Turn 1
The forces will be made clear now, in case you were wondering.
Simon deployed his force with 4 Ironguts screening 4 Maneaters and the Bruiser with one unit of 4 and 3 Bulls on each flank.
I deployed the Grail Knights with my General in the centre, alongside 8 Knights of the Realm (FC) with the Battle Standard. 9 Realmers with full command took the outermost flank, and 6 Knights Errant (FC) took the right.

As I prayed for the Blessing of the Lady, Simon went first, advancing all units forward. In a change of tack, he withdrew the Maneaters from their screen and advanced to take the centre of the field with the Ironguts. I responded in kind, allocating one unit to each of Simons - flankers went for flankers, and the Grail Knights went towards the Maneaters, leaving the Ironguts for the Battle Standard Realmers.

Turn 2
Simon, realising my tactical advance, remained mostly steadfast, after huge amounts of pschological warfare from my part - much to Mr W's disdain. Realising that I now had a fight on my hands, putting myself up to face a line of heavily armed Ogres, I charged into the fray, aiming to tie up all units. All of my units charged into the Ogres assigned to them - save the inexperienced young Knights Errant, who failed their Fear test. Jessies.
Moving straight to the Combat phase, the Knights on the left flank killed one of the four Bulls they were facing and wounded another, for one casualty in return. The Ogres, to my mild annoyance, remained steadfast.

The Knights with the battle standard killed one Irongut and wounded another, for two casualties in return. The Ironguts then broke and were ridden down by the Knights, who then flanked the Bulls on the right side of the battlefield after Persuit. After the death of another Ogre, the Bulls fled off the table.

The combat we were all waiting for then began - the Maneaters versus the Grail Knights. Simon was pretty confident about this one, and I must say it wasn't my cleverest move - but nonetheless, I went on. My boys wouldn't back down yet!
The Knights managed to take down 2 Maneaters, but the Bruiser was still standing - Tenderiser in hand. As it inflicted D3 wounds for each unsaved, my confidence was fading fast - and lo, two Grail Knights went to be with the Lady forever!

Turn 3
Prolonged combat had ensued on the left flank - my one weakness! As it was Simon's turn next combat immediately bgan, but I was saved in part by my Knights Initiative being superior to the Ogres - just about the only thing that was. A Bull were wounded twice on the left flank, as was one Maneater. Another Grail Knight then bit the dust as the Tenderiser - well, tenderised him, and another Realmer was also clubbed to death.

My turn then began with me turning the victorious Knights with battle standard and so far unproven Errants towards the Maneaters' flank. Combat then began once more, with a Maneater slain and another wounded, alongside a Bull, with another Bull wounded. Two Grail Knights became positively holy, and the Paladin was wounded with the Tenderiser after it shredded it first victim.
The mettle of the Bulls finally shattered; they broke and were run down. The Paladin stayed and fought after passing his Break test, the Lady inspiring him to fight to the end...

Turn 4
In Simon's turn, the Bruiser delivered the coup de grace, but not before the last Maneater was cut down by the Paladin.
In my turn, the Knights of the Realm with battle standard, aggrieved by their general's death, charged the Bruiser, dealing three wounds for two kills in return. The Bruiser then fled and was chased down.

This ended the battle, as all of Simon's force was wiped out.
