I cant make the set up weekend as i'm going to the East Anglian Game fair. The actual weekend what day is everyone getting there? I think i'm visiting friends thurs and staying with them, so was going to see if you needed any help friday setting up etc and just getting ready? I'm a bit gutted at the moment, Kody has injured her shoulder. She did it 2 weeks ago, i don't actually know how, just came home from a walk lame. She damaged her shoulder ligaments when she was only a year old and it took months and months to heal. I've rested her and been doing massage and pumping her with anti imflamms, it comes and goes, 1 day she's fine the next she's lame. She's loosing her fitness as well, and i'm completley pissed off!! Why does it always happen so close to the shows? I am taking her sunday and if she's fit i'll let her jump in the Dock Dogs comp but it really depends on how she is. I'll definatley be at the Paws in the Park, and if she isn't lame will compete, however given the nature of the injury i won't push her to hard. The time and effort i've been putting into her lately was really starting to show and she was as fit as a fiddle, i'm gutted this has happened now. |

Please note Change to the events!!!!!! MDS has always been aware of all the events at Clash of the K9s and had agreed they were acceptable, late last night MDS management expressed concern over the vertical scale event and the weight pull at Clash of the K9s, MDS has been persuaded by other influences to remove these events from our competition, so unfortunately there will be no vertical scale or weight pull at Clash of the K9s. The events will now be Speed swim, 100 meter sprint, A-frame with a twist, Long jump, Weight pull sprint, newly added is speed hurdles. Political correctness in the dog world gone mad! ACES apologise for this change that is beyond our control, the weight pull, vertical scale and the vertical climb will still be in use at the ACES field !!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: Nowt they can do about that!!!!!! |

Although weight pull is now no longer part of the clash of the k9's the UPF are still holding their sanctioned pull at the show on the Monday and will be on hand to give out training advice throught the weekend. It was thought by MDS that the weight pull should not be included in Clash of the k9's because there may be untrained dogs entered that have not pulled before and would not look proffessional infront of the public and give weight pull bad press. |

Trial rules! (subject to change) Speed Swim = Dogs will swim to a toy 40 ft away, they can enter the water in any way, walking down the ramp or jumping off the dock but must not be pushed or forced to enter, they will get a total of 60 seconds to complete the swim, the time stops once the dog touches the toy, the fastest dog to get to the toy wins, all non placing dogs that enter the trial will gain 1 point. 100 meter sprint = Dogs will run a 100 meter straight race, the fastest dog will win, all non placing dogs that enter the trial will gain 1 point. A-Frame (with a twist) = Dogs jump the vertical scale, no lure is allowed to be used, they will run through a tunnel and then scale the Vertical climb again, the dog getting the most complete overs in 60 seconds wins, all non placing dogs that enter the trial will gain 1 point. A handler can be provided for the start of the tunnel if required. Long Jump = Dogs will jump over the poles, the poles will start at 2 feet, if a dog knocks a pole off so it falls that is a fail, if a dog knocks a pole and it does not fall to the ground thats a pass to the next distance, 2 poles will be added each rotation, each dog is allowed 1 fail, after the first fail they will join the end of the line to try the same length again, if completed they carry on to the next level, a fail at any point after the first will result in them finishing that trial, the dog jumping the furthest distance will win, all non placing dogs that enter the trial will gain 1 point. Speed Hurdles= Dogs will run a straight race over bails, the fastest dog will win, all non placing dogs that enter the trial will gain 1 point. Speed Pull = Dogs must wear a harness, dogs will pull half their body weight over 30 meters as quickly as possible, the dog completing the distance the quickest wins, all non placing dogs that complete the trial will gain 1 point. |

Seeing as most of you have not attended a upf pull or know what we are about. I thought I'd let you know a bit more about what we do & why. When it was decided that official wp would be brought to this country, Steve went to the USA to learn about the sport from guy's who have been doing this sport for a couple of decades. At the first pull Mark Landers & Steve Lewis came over to not only judge the pull, but to teach us the ropes, so to speak. We picked their brains so much they went home with migraines :D . We are the only guy's in the UK that have this experience. There are other's out there that do put their versions on, but dont have the experience or knowledge on how to train correctly, that we do. Some of you know that we activley discourage pulling on anything other than a harness & also baiting. The reasons are apart from it being poor practise & against the UPF rules, the authorities do not like to see it. I think it was at either the second or third pull, we had members of the rspca special ops in attendance. Having them see how we do things & talking to them after, they were happy with the way it was run. They had concerns about pulling on collars & baiting as this was what they where used to seeing. This is the reason I take down any pics put on our forum that show this. Trust me I know what bad press is like. :MrFud: We have put pulls on in Scotland, apprenticed judges up from Sweden, Denmark & Germany. Anyways think that's enough for now, apart from we are realy looking forward to spending this weekend with you. We are there the whole weekend for help with training & to talk dogs with like minded folks. See you then :yay: Ian |
