So there's a lot of issues we could discuss. We both showed interest in education, the tv desensitizing us, discipline, and children's activities. My mom brought up another issue: talking on the cell phone while driving. I normally only get cut off by people on the cell phone, so that one is of particular interest to me. Anyways, I'll browse CNN and some other sites to see what's happening. I haven't been following the news very well as of late. Edited by MaryAnn, Apr 18 2009, 10:54 PM.

Hey man, sorry I haven't been getting on. Had some stuff going on. Yeah, I never really thought about just having kids watch the news like that. It does make sense that children might have difficulty comprehending that something is only happening once and being replayed. I think it's about at age 11 that we start developing abstract thought, so that makes a lot of sense. I'll have to look into this further. Probably tomorrow night. |

I used the information on the sheet we were given. Worked like a charm. Are you typing everything correctly? |

Here's some interesting stuff that I've found:
http://www.umext.maine.edu/onlinepubs/htmpubs/4100.htm
http://kidshealth.org/parent/positive/family/tv_affects_child.html They basically recommend that children should be allowed only a couple of hours of viewing, and that commercials should be cut out entirely, if at all possible. It's pretty much completely proving my point: television isn't a substitute for good parenting. |
