What better way to start the new board off than with a classic rp? If you've ever watched an episode of Heroes, then you know the basic premises of this thread. After a solar eclipse, seemingly normal people discover that they have abnormal powers. Some have gained immortality, others super strength. Whatever the power, everyone is surprised and must learn how to cope.

The logistics and mechanics are the same as the show. The powers originate from a gene mutation. But for the rp's sake, let's just pretend that no one knows that (yet). Here's a character skeleton. You can rp once you've filled it out. To get this moving, you won't need to be approved or anything. If there's an issue, we'll address it as we go.

Name: Carlisle Masters

Age: 56

Occupation: College Professor

Description: Remnants of his youth still cling to the aging man. He is well built and still gives off an aura of strength. A hook nose covered in liver spots and nest of white hair atop the crown of his head are reminiscent of a bird of prey. In fact, his students call him the Hawk. Strict and unforgiving, he does not hesitate to reprimand a student who goofs around in class.
Masters served in the later years of the Vietnam War. After his short term overseas, he entered college, something he thought he'd never do with the money he had. Once there, he discovered a passion for knowledge, particularly that of history. Thirty years later, he finds himself teaching the subject to hundreds of young men and women daily.

Power: Advanced Hearing

Miscellanious: Masters feels particularly disjointed from the present generation of up and coming adults. He doesn't understand their obsession with technology and drama.

Okay, let's face it: Superpower/Powered RPs are the best ones. I'm thrilled that this is how we're kick-starting the site.

Name: Alex Carrius
Age: 24
Occupation: Chemical Engineer
Description: Alex appears as a bald man well beyond his years, wearing thick glasses that are nothing more than flat pieces of glass, and typically, if not a lab coat, dressed in wear befitting a businessman. Alex never went to college, but he was able to demonstrate expertise suitable enough to work in the chemical field.
Power: Can 'secrete' molecules whose forms he has memorized, and be immune to their effects, as well as restore his regular form in seconds (Rock shells fall off, gas dissipates, etc.)
Miscellaneous: Alex normally looks like a bald, middle-aged man, but since he doesn't run around in a costume, he hides his identity by using his powers to change his appearance. Small, daily doses of Radium secretion cause his hair, which grows in a multitude of earthy colors, to fall out, and rubbing alcohol causes his skin to dry and shrivel. When he needs to act under a guise, he can restore his normal appearance rather quickly.

Professor Masters stood at the bottom of the stuffy lecture hall, waiting for his students to settle down. It was the beginning of the new term, which meant a new batch of near-hopeless youngsters. There were a few here and there with promise, but he knew deep down that the majority of these young men and women would either end up in a gutter or at a fast food chain. Whatever the case, he was still getting paid. Their futures weren't his problem.

Ten minutes later, the room had quieted down enough for him to finally put in his two cents. "Welcome to European History 101. I am Professor Masters; we will be spending the next semester together. I can only hope that-" His greetings were cut off by the audible opening and closing of the hall door. A young man tumbled in, already smelling of foul substances and looking like a burnt out sod. Masters sighed and waved towards the other students. "Take a seat."

The light from the windows dimmed. Students flocked over to see. The professor, already exasperated with this class, stomped over to disperse them. But he too was entranced by the miracle outside. The sun was disappearing.

Meanwhile, thousands of miles away...

Two blocks away from the college campus, Alex, an employee at Synthetic Solutions, was too busy looking through a high powered microscope to see what was unfolding outside. His colleague rolled up to him on a wheeled stool, carrying a clipboard. "So what we should be seeing right now is a steady increase in aggregate size, as per the mold's regular growth rate..." Alex nodded, looking up just to write on his own clipboard. "Now, the compound we're testing today should essentially put the mold into stasis. Add exactly 3 ccs. In thirty seconds you should see a cease in the replication of the aggregate cells."

Alex grabbed the dropper pipette and administered the chemical. No change for the first twenty seven seconds. On the twenty eighth second, every cell in the aggregate mold split at the same time. On the twenty ninth second, and every second afterwards, each of those cells continued to do so. "Uh, we have a problem."

The eclipse passed. "Alright, nothing more to see here," Masters croned, herding his students back to their seats. The eclipse had been a moment of silence, but now the young ones burst into noise. He could hear every single one of their voices, every word and curse, every phrase and sentence. It was ear splitting.

Teeth ground shut, Masters clamped two wrinkled hands over his ears. "Everyone, everyone, all of you, quiet down!" The room quieted down but for a carpet of stinging whispers. "I said shut up!" The room was silent.

After glaring at the mass of them, the professor stormed out of the room.

Unaware of the exterior eclipse, Alex was backed into the corner of the room, fleeing the rapidly growing aggregate mold. His colleague sprawled to the ground from his stool. He was quickly engulfed in the torrent of earthy green material.

Alex stepped onto a chair, and from there hoisted himself onto a filing cabinet, not that it would matter; the mass of the mold was exponentially growing. Doubling its size once per second. It would approximately fill the rest of the room in three.

On the third second, Alex, who incidentally had shut his eyes, opened the very same eyes. He saw nothing. Pure blackness. He struggled to move, but was locked in place. With some effort, he peeled his lips back and felt whatever was in front of him with his tongue. It was rough and hard. Stone. He was encased in stone.

Outside was no better. The birds, the bees, the whole lot of them. They were just too loud! No matter where he went, there was always a constant buzz of noise. The fuzz was insufferable. Where, just where could Masters find escape? The professor's lounge was out; even before this conundrum, he had trouble tolerating the other's annoying drawl. His office? No, there were sure to be students swarming it already.

He stomped past the recreational center. Everyone would be at classes or in a dining hall eating lunch; the place was empty. A pause; eyes shifted one way and then another. Ten minutes later, he was immersed in an empty pool. The sound of the lapping water wasn't so bad, if not a little too loud. But a quick dunk under would keep it at bay for a moment. Now if only he could stay like this all day.
