Reflecting

Recently I have been feeling very philosophical and thinking about a lot of things. It is probably because of the Psychology book that I am reading at the minute. One of the things that I have been thinking about is something that I experience on almost a daily basis in my work life. I work for a large retail chain that sells mobile phones but my musings will apply to all retail settings. Let me tell you where my thinking started.

I was walking to work a few weeks ago on a Sunday morning, now I HATE working Sundays in fact I hate working weekends full stop. Anyway, I was on the way to work when I was walking past another retail outlet. A guy approached the doors and seeing that the shop was not open he then began to swear and stormed off back to his car all the while shouting to his wife about the store being closed. It really annoyed me, his reaction. This is not an unusual things for me to see as we often have a queue outside our store well before we open and people complain that we should be open earlier. If you are one of the people who takes this attitude then stop and think about the staff. Retail staff have a hard time for most of their working days from customers who think that because we stand at a counter it gives you the right to abuse and treat us like crap. People come into our store with problems and are looking for help but we cant always provide an instant solution but customer quite often become abusive and insulting. Why? Don't forget that the people that are in the stores can only do so much before somebody with more authority needs to make a decision.

The British consumer is a very impatient entity. They want solutions before problems happen and demand to be compensated for everything. I do agree that in some occassions companies do fall short and in that case the customer should receive some sort of compensation. In short people need to show more respect to the person that is serving you or answering your calls in a call centre, these people will get things wrong some times, don't we all make mistakes? Be patient and you will have a much more pleasurable experience. If you become abusive to a person that is that going to make them want to help you more? Would you help an abusive person?

Sorry about that. Rant over.

Hello all.

I am not going to start off by promising that I will write in this blog on a daily or weekly basis, nor will I commit to any sort of posting pattern. I will blog when I have the time. That might sound a little harsh as an opening sentence but I feel that we put too much pressure on bloggers sometimes to produce daily insights and details of their lives. The same can be said when you write stories for the AB community. The more you write, the more people want.

Anyway, life at the minute is pretty good. I have a wonderful baby girl in MuppetBaby and our future is starting to include plans for holidays and moving home. My personal plans put the bricks of education at my feet for me to lay my path. I know that I have said this in the past but I will be going to college this coming September reacquaint myself with the academic world. I have big plans for the future and my current job just doesn't match my ambitions. It scares me to death to think of myself stuck in a job like the one I have now for the next 5-10 years.

Over this past week I have been off work sick and I have had a lot of time to think. I feel more certain about what I want to be doing in life now.

Muppet and I have had a really busy few months. We had a trip to London for an annual AB picnic that we attend and also we had family visits. Muppet is also going for promotion in work and we are hoping to move into a house in the next 6 months. Things look quite good at the minute.

I have also been spending a lot of time on this place, it has taken a lot of hard work to get things sorted out and now I am hoping that people will enjoy it and use it well. I felt that it was time for a change on ABPlayAway and the new board gave me the opportunity to fix a few problems that I had with the old one.

Well that will do for now, I still have a few things to do so I will write more when I can.
