Galeein lay on his bed, fast asleep. A dream, the same one he'd been having for years, raced through his mind. He dreamt of the day that made the world the way it was. It started out like any normal day. He woke up, kissed his wife and son, and left for work. Then it continued being normal. Up until he was contacted by the United States Marine Corp. They had a top secret mission for him and ninteen other Marines that proved themselves in the line of duty. "Operation Darkseed." General Howitz called it. They had to both sneak into North Korea and steal intel from a DPRK military installation and go undercover in a terrorist organization known as God's Hand. The mission went well. Up until the Marines learned the horrible truth behind Operation Darkseed. Galeein's eyes jumped open. "Same dream?" His wife mumbled beside him. "Yes." Galeein answered."I don't know what any of it is. I don't remember doing it." "Don't let it trouble you dear." His wife said. "It's just.." Galeein began."I can't help but feel that it has actually happened. Everything in my dream. The people in it. They all make sense. Overlord Relings, General Howitz, even you." "It was a dream." His wife said."Nothing more. Our mind pulls things we know from real life and place them into our dreams all the time." "I still believe its real." Galeein said."Theres a man in it. I think we were friends at one point. His name sounds vaguely familiar. Guillermo Huyser. Do you know him?" "No." Galeein's wife answered somewhat frustrated. "I'm sorry." Galeein said."I'll go back to sleep." "Thank you." But he couldn't fall back asleep. His mind was trying to tell him something and he knew it. He knew that it wasn't just a dream. It was a memory. Erin stirred beside him. He decided it would be a good idea to fake like he was sleeping. He closed his eyes and lay as still as possible. "Were you up all night?" Erin asked. Galeein continued to fake sleep. "I know you're not sleeping." Erin said."Your muscles are too tense." "Yes." Galeein said."I was up all night." "Why?" Erin asked. "I couldn't stop thinking of you." Galeein lied half joking. "I'm not letting you stay home from work." Erin said. "I know." Galeein said. He threw the blankets off and slid out of bed. Then he put his uniform on. "See you later tonight." Galeein said after giving Erin a kiss. Then he limped from the room. He took the stairs down the the basement. Then he took a ladder to the second basement floor. He entered the tram and inserted his card. After pressing the button for Outpost Hope the tram began moving. "Hello Sergeant." TIA said. "Good morning TIA." Galeein replied. "You have an urgent message from Captain Reams at Outpost Hope." TIA said. "Run it." Galeein ordered. The glass in front of Galeein darkened and Captain Reams came on screen. "Master Sergeant Galeein we have a problem. There was a tram launched from DCA just before the explosion." Captain Reams said. "Did it make it out?" Galeein asked. "Yes." Captain Reams answered. "Where is it?" Galeein asked. "En route to the Academy." Reams replied. "How many on board?" Galeein asked. "Three. One of which we have just confirmed as Pablo Huyser, the leader of GY."Reams said. Galeein's mind went back to his dream at the mention of Huyser. "What's that name again?" Galeein asked. "Pablo Huyser." Reams answered. "Is he of any relation to Guillermo Huyser?" Galeein asked. "Yes." Reams said after a moment."Guillermo is his father." "What was Guillermo's profession?" Galeein asked. Reams typed something into the computer."He was a Marine." He said after a few moments."Worked on a top secret mission." "What mission?" Galeein asked. "Top Secret mission." Reams repeated emphasizing the words. "It should have a mission name." Galeein said. "Operation Darkseed." Reams said. Galeein nearly collapsed to the floor. His dreams were real. He really had taken part in Operation Darkseed. And he did know Guillermo Huyser. Somehow. "Where is Guillermo now?" Galeein asked. "Dead. MIA actually. They never found him." Reams answered. "Reams." Galeein said."What I am about to tell you is very important. Do not kill Pablo Huyser. I need to question him." "What about the other two?" Reams asked. "They're dispensible. Pablo isn't. Do not let him die." Galeein said. "I'll relay the message to Academy Guard." Reams said. "Comm link closed." TIA said."Is there a problem Sergeant Galeein?" "No.Why?" Galeein asked. "You seem stressed. Like you're about to do something radical. Or something that could compromise the security of the Empire." TIA answered. "No. I just didn't get much sleep last night." Galeein said. He wasn't thinking much about it. He was going to do something crazy. And that thing could damage the Empire. But he needed answers from Huyser. He needed to know what Pablo knew. "Sergeant Galeein?" TIA asked. "Yes?" Galeein asked. "Under orders from the Empire I must now shut this tram down. There will be a squad of guards that will come and collect you shortly. Please do not try to escape. You'll only bring harm to yourself." TIA said. Galeein nearly fainted. The Empire must have detected Reams reading through Guillermo's file. Reams must have told them that Galeein asked for the information. It was then that Master Sergeant Calvin Galeein became an enemy of the Cavalerian Empire. Brin lay in his bed attempting to sleep. Thoughts raced through his mind on how he was going to escape. Which staircase, or ladder, or elevator to take. Which gun he should steal. He wanted to wait until Galeein brought them to the armory. That way he could kill Galeein too. But the guards rushing by his door made him consider leaving sooner. He slid out of bed and crept to the door. After giving it one tug he remembered that the doors are kept locked at night. "Excuse me." He said to a passing guard. The guard stopped and looked at him. "I need to go to the bathroom." He said. "Pee your pants." The guard said. "I could, but then I'd feel sorry for the laundry people." Brin said. The guard unlocked the door and slid it open. "I've got my eye on you." He said. Brin walked down the hall toward the bathroom. He glanced over his shoulder a few times on the way to make sure the guard was following. "Go." The guard said while nodding at the door. Brin swiftly turned and punched him across the face. The guard fell. He began to get up again. Brin kicked him in the head. The guard reached for his pistol. Brin kicked one last time. His shoe hit the man in the back of the neck. His spinal cord snapped and the man stopped moving. Brin grabbed his gun and followed the trail of the rest of the guards. They went down a very long, very empty hall and then into a service hall. The service halls were off limits to the Youth. They provided a way for the guards to manuever through the compound without being stuck in a crowd of a hundred people. Brin followed the tunnel until it forked. "Which way?" He said to himself. He stood there pondering which direction to go. "I suggest you turn around." A man said from behind him."Before you get yourself killed." "Why haven't you killed me yet?" Brin asked. "I've got no intention in killing you." The man said. "Why?" Brin asked. "I ain't one of these Cavalerian fellows." The man said. It was then that Brin noticed the accent. "Where are you from?" Brin asked. "Little country. Doesn't exist anymore." The man answered. "What was it called?" Brin asked. "It was Ireland." The man answered."But now you know it as Remnant." "What's your name."Brin asked ready to aim his gun and fire should the situation change. "Patrick." The man said."Patrick McCreery. My friends call me Pat." "I'm Brin." Brin introduced himself. "Pleased to meet ya Brin." Pat said."Me and me boys were about to launch an assault on this place. Then we overheard some guards talking about the GY leader coming in on the tram. I decided to see if I could help them." "The tram?" Brin asked. "Yes. It be down the left hall." Pat said."I could sure use your help." "I'd be glad to help." Brin said."As long as Galeein dies along the way." "Galeein ain't a problem no more." Pat said."Me boys intercepted a radio transmission from Overlord Relings himself. He says that Galeein is now considered a threat to the empire." "I'm still going to kill him." Brin said. "Well you won't do that by just standing here." Pat said."We should get a move on. Or we might miss the arrival." Brin and his new ally Patrick went down the tunnel side by side. "So tell me." Pat said."Why do you want Galeein dead?" "He killed a friend of mine." Brin said. "I think it would be a terrible idea to kill him." Pat said."He knows Outpost Hope like the back of his hand. He could help GY lead a strike. He also knows several SD device codes. The man could be very useful." "I'm still going to kill him." Brin said. "The man was brainwashed. Almost all adults were. He didn't know what he was doing." Pat said. "Why are you defending him?"Brin asked. "I know him." Pat said."We were friends once. We worked together on something." "What?" Brin asked. "It would be best for ye not to know." Pat said."A top secret mission. It's all I can say." "Top secret mission from where?" Brin asked. "An old country. Doesn't exist anymore." Pat said. "What country?" Brin asked. "You're full of questions aren't ye?" Pat said. "We have a walk ahead of us. I figure, why not discuss something along the way?" Brin said. "The United States of America." Pat said."Was a wonderful place." "Sounds familiar." Brin said. "You must have been three when it happened." Pat said. "What?" Brin asked. "Nothing." Pat said."Nothing important." "I want to know." Brin said. "The tram is coming up soon." Pat said. The two of them stopped talking. There was a group of a dozen guards. They were all standing at the tram enterance. "Yes." One of them said into a telephone."The tram is on it's way here now." "We'll wait until the tram arrives." Pat whispered."Then they'll be distracted by that." Brin nodded. "Yes." The same one said."You want Pablo Huyser alive." Pat's face went flush. "Did he say Pablo Huyser?" Pat whispered. "Yes.Why?" Brin asked. "I knew his father." Pat said. Up ahead the sound of the tram's breaks squeeling echoed through the tunnel. The guards all raised their weapons. The tram came into view and stopped. The lock engaged and it was still. The door of the tram slid open and one of the guards looked in. He glanced back at the others, bewilderment visible on his face. Then the tram exploded sending the twelve guards sprawling to the ground. Brin and Pat began firing at the guards while they were still dazed by the explosion. Pablo, Welk, and Relant walked up the tunnels and were confused when they heard gunfire after the explosion. They began running toward the tram station. Relant took point as the three of them ran down the tunnels toward the gunfight. The tunnel opened up and the tram station was barely visible. Relant dashed faster and made it before the other two. All of the guards were dead when they arrived. Two men walked out of a nearby tunnel. One looked like he was eighteen the other in his late thirties. "A damned blood bath it was." The older one said as they strolled into the station. "Hello." Relant said. "Hi." The younger one said. "Did you guys do this?" Relant asked. The younger one looked around."Yeah." He said."Your explosion certainly helped." Relant approached them and outstretched his hand."I'm Relant."He said. "The names Patrick." The older one said. "I'm Brin." The younger one said."The saner one." Relant pulled his hand back after he realized they weren't going to shake it. "Pablo's on his way." Relant said. Pablo and Welk came into view inside the tunnel. Relant waved at them. "Thanks for the help." Relant said. "It was me pleasure." Patrick replied."Not too often do I get to kill some Cavaliers." "Thanks anyways." Relant said. "We need to find Galeein." Brin said. "He's at Outpost Hope." Patrick said."Stuck in the damned tram tunnels waitin' to be arrested." "Hello." Pablo said."I'm Pablo Huyser." "Nice to meet ye." Patrick said."Me names Pat. And this be Brin." "Hi Brin." Pablo said. "Enough of the damn introductions." Brin said."We only have a few more minutes until more guards show up." "Brin is right." Patrick said."We need to get moving." "We need to free the rest of these people." Pablo said."Generation Youth could use more people in the charge on Outpost Hope." "They're in the tram station." Someone said over one of the dead guards' radios."We've got a group of thirty on their way. Plus Relings sent a brigade of ECGS for us. He wants them dead." "We need to move." Relant said. Relant turned and began running down the tunnel that Patrick and Brin had left from. He followed it to the nearest ladder. He heard footsteps closing in behind him as he began climbing the ladder. "Wait up!" Pablo shouted. Relant ignored him and climbed the ladder. He pushed open a trap door at the top and climbed out into a bathroom. The others climbed the ladder behind him. "Where are we?" Relant asked. "Looks like a bathroom." Patrick said. "I meant which part of the building." Relant said. Welk set his laptop down and began hacking into the Academy's hard drive. "I can't hack it. Not from my laptop." Welk said. "What do you need?" Pablo asked. "A computer with a direct connection to the hard drive. The Academy doesn't have any wireless connection." Welk said. "Would a guard station work?" Brin asked. "Possibly." Welk replied. "There should be one down the hall somewhere." Brin said."There are about four on every floor of the Aquadron. We should find one if we follow the main corridor." "Right or left?" Relant asked while peaking out the door. "Either." Brin answered. "We'll go right." Relant said."Come on." Relant pushed the door open and ran out into the corridor. His pistol was extended out in front of him. Brin and the others followed. The five of them crept down the hall as quietly as possible. "There's one." Brin whispered, pointing at a small room. Relant and the others snuck in and cleared it before allowing Welk to begin hacking. "Form a perimeter around Welk and keep him safe." Pablo ordered. Relant and Brin covered the right, Pablo and Patrick covered the left. After a moment of nothing but the sound of the keyboard clicking Relant didn't think anyone was coming. His hopes were gone when Pablo began firing. "CavBombers!" He shouted. "What the hell is it with these things?" Relant asked. Relant moved to Pablo's side and began firing. "More over here." Brin said before pulling on the trigger and unleashing a storm of bullets. Relant returned to Brin's side and began firing the pistol down the hall. "How much longer?" Pablo asked. "Two minutes." Welk answered. "We don't have enough ammo for two minutes!"Pablo shouted. "It's a guard station, their should be more guns somewhere." Welk pointed out. Pablo handed Patrick his gun and got up to search the room for guns. He pushed aside a rug and found a locker underneath. "Welk!" He shouted."Crack this combination." "I can't. I need to work on this." Welk answered. Pablo withdrew his pistol and emptied a clip into the locker. The lock shattered. He pulled the door open and grabbed an armful of as many weapons as he could. He dropped it down on a pile between the three shooters and continued firing down the hall. "Their getting closer!" Brin shouted. "You think I didn't notice!" Pablo snapped."Just keep shooting." Relant reached back into the pile and his hand closed around a sphere shaped object. He pulled it out and showed Pablo. "What is this." He asked. Pablo took it, pulled a pin from the side, and threw it down the hall. A moment later it exploded. "Hand grenade." Pablo said."Leave those for me." The four of them continued firing down the hall. "It's no use." Brin said."We need to fall back into the room and shut the door." "The door will break." Pablo said. "Doesn't matter." Brin replied."We only need about five minutes. Then we'll go out the back." "I don't like this idea." Pablo said. "It's our only option." Brin said. "Fine. Everyone fall back into the room."Pablo shouted. He scooped up the weapons and ran in. Patrick and Brin ran inside. Relant followed. He slid under the door as it slid shut. "Plexiglass!" Pablo shouted as the door shut."The door is made of plexiglass!" "How does that fit into your plan?" Patrick asked Brin. Relant stepped back and sat against the wall. "We need to go." Brin told Welk. "Get the back door open." Welk said."I'll be with you in a sec." Brin walked to the door and began pulling on it. "No way." Pablo said. Brin pulled harder. The door refused to budge. "Dammit Brin!' Patrick shouted."I thought you were smart." "Shut the hell up. I didn't see you coming up with any ideas." Brin answered. The first of the CavBombers hit the plexiglass and exploded. The glass cracked. A thought struck Relant. An idea. Relant dug into the pile and pulled out two hand grenades. He stood up and pulled the pins. As another bomber hit the door and exploded Relant jumped into it. The glass shattered and Relant went through into the hall. He threw the Grenades to either side of him and they went off. The explosion, though very large, was hindered by the walls of the guard station. The remaining CavBombers exploded due to the grenades and set off a chain reaction. A Domino Effect. They were all killed. Relant was gone. His blood contributed to the blood on the walls. His limbs to those scattered about. Pablo stared at the spot where Relant stood moments before. A look of disbelief was clearly visible on his face. Relant had saved him once before. He couldn't believe that he'd given up his life to do it again. He couldn't believe that Relant was dead. Galeein stood in the tram. His heart was beating rapidly. He glanced around the tram for any sign of what to do next. Any hint. Then he got an idea. He could go to the Academy. Side with Pablo and the Youth. They could keep him alive and he could help them in return. He removed his pocket knife and stabbed it into the glass door. The glass chipped. He stabbed it again. A small crack formed. After several more blows he managed to make a hole in the glass. He then began kicking the hole to make it larger. After the hole was large enough he climbed out of the tram. Up ahead he could here feet shuffling. He unholstered his pistol and aimed down the tunnel. The first of the Cavalerians came into view. Galeein fired four shots. Two of them found their mark in the man's chest and throat. Galeein aimed at the next and fired three times. All three shots missed. He crouched down and got behind the tram for cover. "Two damn clips." He said after feeling his holster. He waited momentarily then exited cover and fired twice. One of the shots hit another of the guards in the leg. Then he got behind the tram again. He counted out the shots he had taken. Eight. Four shots left. He glanced around the cover. Seven guards left. His palms began to sweat. He exited cover and unloaded the rest of the clip. Another guard fell. He ejected the clip and reloaded. After cocking the slide back to put a bullet in the chamber he dove out of cover. While kneeling he unloaded the clip on the guards. Three more of them fell. He rolled back into cover and reloaded. "I can't see him!" One of them shouted. "Switch to nightvision." Another one said. Galeein looked up. There were no lights over his head. He glanced down the tunnel and realized that the guards had lights over them. A grin crossed his face. "You know you'll be shut down for that TIA." He said. "I was hoping you wouldn't notice Sergeant." TIA replied. "Can you start up?" Galeein asked. "My locks have been remotely engaged. I cannot shut them off." She answered. "I'm sure I'll find another use for a stationary tram." Galeein joked. The guards began firing down the tunnel. A few rounds struck the side of the tram. The rest missed entirely. "TIA I need you to turn all of the overhead lights on." Galeein said. "You'll be seen." TIA said. "They're using night vision. It will temporarily blind them." Galeein explained. "Get prepared."TIA said. Galeein prepared to jump out. The lights flicked on and the tunnels seemed to explode. Galeein jumped out and took care to line up his shots. Four guards. Twelve shots. Three shots per guard. He fired the first three. One of the guards collapsed. He fired three more times. Another fell. He fired twice at the next. Both hit there mark. One in the chest one in the head. The last guard got three rounds in the chest. He returned to cover and checked the pistol. "One round left."TIA said. "That's my emergency exit strategy."Galeein explained. He scrambled down the tunnel and collected the weapons. Sidearms and rifles. Then he returned to TIA and took cover. More guards approached from down the tunnel. "TIA."Galeein said."I need you to scan the Academy for a Pablo Huyser." "One moment please."TIA said. Galeein made sure that the guns were all loaded and ready. "Find him?" He asked. "Not yet." TIA answered. "Focus on the Aquadron."Galeein ordered."That's his most likely location." "Yes Sergeant."TIA said. Galeein peeked around the tram and fired four shots at the approaching guards. They were meant to warn them not to get too close. He was surprised to find one guard collapse. The rest of them dove to the ground or leaned into the walls. Anything to make themselves less visible. He fired again. Another guard fell. He was holding them off fine now. He knew that wouldn't last long. The entire guard force of Outpost Hope would be on him momentarily. If Relings gave the order to have him killed then the Cavalerians would stop at nothing to see the order through. His hand went to his pocket. He reached in and retrieved a picture of his wife. He stared at it. "I'm sorry."He said."I helped make the world like this. Somehow." He kissed the picture and returned it to his pocket. "How's it going?"Galeein asked. "Not yet."TIA said."Are you certain that he has a identifier chip in him?" "No." Galeein said."Keep looking. Search for a room with three individuals in it. Possibly more." "That will show up almost everywhere."TIA said. "Two people per room in the Academy."Galeein said."The guards should all be patrolling the halls. A room with that may people in it should be the right one." "Yes Sergeant."TIA said. Galeein glanced around the tram. The guards were approaching him. He fired at them and they retreated back. He returned to cover and checked the rifle. Twelve shots left. He glanced back around the corner. They were setting up sandbags down the tunnel. Another man was fiddling with a mounted machine gun. They were setting up a machine gun emplacement. They could rip through the tram with it. He fired down the hall. One of the men setting up the emplacement collapsed. Another took his place. It was hopeless. Galeein pressed one of the guns to his temple. He took one last glance at the picture of his wife. His finger tightened around the trigger. "I found them."TIA said. "Open a comm link."Galeein ordered. He set the gun back down and thought about what he should say. Brin, Pablo, Patrick and Welk searched around the guard room for anything else they could use. Relant had destroyed most of the equipment when he gave up his life. Then the intercomm clicked. "Message from Master Sergeant Galeein."A woman's voice said. "Hello?" A man said. "Galeein?"Brin asked. "Yes."The man answered. "You're a dead man." Brin said."You killed Zock." "I'm sorry."Galeein said."Right now I need your help." "Why should we help you?"Brin asked. "Because.I know access codes. SD device cancellation and verification codes and I know a way for you to pentrate Outpost Hope's defenses without losing a sinlge man." Galeein explained. "No."Brin said."We won't.." "Shut up Brin."Pablo ordered."We'll help you. What do you need?" "I need one of you to hack the tram system. Turn the tram in tunnel 47 back on."Galeein said."I've got about a hundred guards coming at me right now so I need it done fast." "I'm on it."Welk said. He approached a computer console that was set in the east wall. "How could you help him?"Brin asked. "You're not looking at the big picture."Pablo said."He killed your friend yes. But without him hundreds more would die during the attack on Outpost Hope." "You don't think my friend was important?"Brin asked. "To my cause? No."Pablo said."He was training to be a Cavalerian. He deserved to die." "I was training too."Brin said. "But you got out."Pablo said."He didn't. He died a Cavalerian in training." Brin swung at Pablo. He ducked under it and punched Brin in the stomach. "Training as a Cavy won't make you a better fighter that me."Pablo said. Brin kicked Pablo in tthe back of the knee. He stumbled and fell. Then Brin climbed on him and put him in a headlock. Pablo elbowed him in the stomach multiple times and head butted his face. Brin released him. Blood was gurgled from his nose. Pablo stood up and stared at him. "Damn."He said."Now I feel bad." Brin clutched his nose, trying to stop the bleeding. "Ye guys done with yer fight?" Patrick asked."What a shame. Very fun to watch." "Go to hell Patty Cakes."Brin mocked. "Don't call me Patty Cakes ya prick!"Patrick said angrily. Pablo handed Brin some paper towels. "I'm sorry."He said. Brin snatched them and got to his feet. "You want to work with Galeein, then I'm not working with you." He said. "Don't go bein a sissy because ye got yer arse beat." Patrick said. "Go to hell Patty Cakes!"Brin said again. "Don't call me Patty Cakes!"Patrick said. "Done."Welk said. "What the hell is going on in there?"Galeein asked. "Pablo and Brin got in a fight. Brin's being a sore loser. Patrick doesn't like being called Patty Cakes."Welk explained. "Hmmm."Galeein said."Sounds like your having more fun than me. The trams moving. Thanks kid." "No problem."Welk said. Galeein disconnected from the comm link. "I'm not working with Galeein."Brin said. "Then get the hell out of here." Pablo said."Because He's an asset and you're not." Brin stood still, staring angrily at Pablo. He grabbed his gun and stormed from the room. He walked down the hall, not decreasing his pace the entire time. "Freeze!" A man shouted behind him. He stopped, dead in his tracks. "Drop your weapon." The man ordered. Brin turned around and pointed the gun at him. The man fired once. Something struck Brin in the lower abdomen. Something cold and small. He dropped the gun and fell to the floor. His arms and legs stopped working. The man knelt down next to him. He rolled Brin over. "Dammit kid." The man said."Why the hell didn't you listen to me?" Brin tried to respond but couldn't move his jaw. "Don't worry." The man said."It's just a temporary paralyzation dart. You'll be fine in a few hours." Again, Brin tried to respond. Millions of questions floated around in his brain. Millions of things he wanted to know about this mystery man. Was he an enemy or an ally? Where did he come from? And most importantly, What was his name? The man's lips were moving but Brin couldn't make out what he was saying. Where is someone? That's what it looked like. Someone. Where is someone? The haze lifted, momentarily. Again the man spoke. "My son. Where is my son?" He asked. Brin's head sank and he tumbled into the darkness of unconciousness. Galeein lay on the floor of the tram as it passed the hundreds of guards. "TIA."He said."Change destination to the Aquadron." "Yes Sergeant."TIA said. The tram lurched slightly and then stopped. The tracks rose and came to a stop on another level of tunnels. Then the tram turned and sped off toward the Aquadron. "How long till we get there?"Galeein asked. "Approximately five minutes."TIA said. "Galeein, you there?"The youth named Welk asked. "Yes."Galeein said. "You need to come to a stop a few hundred feet down the tunnel from the station. There are a bunch of guards waiting for you." Welk said. "That would have been nice to now before I abandoned all of the guns I had."Galeein said."All I've got is my pistol with four clips." "We'll meet you there and help you fight your way out."Welk said. "Great."Galeein said."Don't hit me by mistake." "Don't wear your uniform."Welk said. Then the screen dissolved. Galeein pondered Welk's previous statement. He unzipped his jacket and tossed it out the broken door into the tunnel. His shoulder holster hung loosely at his side. He tightened it up and checked the pistol to make sure it wouldn't jam on him. "Comm link requested from Remnant." TIA said. "Patch it through."Galeein said. "Sergeant Galeein."Overlord Relings said. "What the hell do you want Relings?"Galeein asked. "Just to make a deal with you."Relings said. "Not interested."Galeein said. "I've told the men at the Aquadron to hold their fire. Temporarily of course. All they need is a kill word from me and that tram your in will be nothing but shards." Relings said. "What do you want?"Galeein asked. "I'll contact you later. The tram is easily hacked. Someone could be listening to us right now."Relings said. "How will you contact me?"Galeein asked. "Your locater chip."Relings said."I'll find out where you are and call from the nearest comm station." "I'll think about it."Galeein said. "You have roughly two minutes to think before I give the kill word."Relings said. The tram continued it's speedy course toward the Aquadron. Galeein sat in silence. He was pretending to think but he already knew what he was going to do. "One minute."Relings said. Galeein remained quiet. The tram continued on. For several seconds there was silence. "I don't think you understand the situation."Relings said."You have thirty seconds." Galeein continued to hold his tongue. "Ten seconds."Relings said. "All right."Galeein said."I'll do it. What do you want." "I'll contact you later." Relings said."Goodbye." "Comm link closed."TIA said. "TIA stop the tram."Galeein ordered. The tram's brakes squeeled and it eventually came to a stop. Galeein stepped through the door and took cover behind the tram. The shooting began. None of it was aimed down the tunnel at him. He stepped out of cover and crept silently up the tunnel. A man dressed in all black stepped out in front of him. "Sergeant Galeein?"He asked. "Yeah."Galeein said. "Follow me." The man ordered. "Who are you." Galeein asked. "You mean you don't know."The man asked. "No."Galeein answered."It is dark. Which squad are you with?" The man laughed a strong and intimadating laugh. "I'm not one of the damn Cavys."The man said."Were you expecting a Cavy?" "I wasn't expecting anyone."Galeein retorted. "We go way back. I suppose you did have your memory blanked." The man said."How about the dreams?" "How do you know about my dreams?"Galeein asked. "I've been giving them to you."The man said."Electronic shocks sent into a certain part of the brain can stimulate the memory. You had dreams because I shocked your brain." "Using what?"Galeein asked. "Your locater chip."The man answered."None of that's important. I am Guillermo Huyser. My son Pablo is expecting you." "Thats amazing."Galeein said. "Not really. Its just my name." Guillermo said. "No, the shocking thing."Galeein said. "I know what you meant." Guillermo said."Its called sarcasm. Its not that amazing. The idea was first suggest back in the twentieth century. Simple science really." "If you did that to every adult in the empire, you could create an uprising. Remind them of how great life used to be. Then they'll overthrow Relings and everything will return to normal." Galeein said. "Nothing is normal."Guillermo said."And nothing will ever be normal." "I'm just saying."Galeein said."We could change things." "It would be incredibly difficult."Guillermo said."The only place we'd be able to do it from is Remnant. They have the entire system for the LoChip there." "But it would be worth the risk."Galeein said. "Maybe. We'll run it by the rest."Guillermo said. The two of them crept down a side path that ran along side the tram tunnel. Eventually it broke off into a sewer. They followed the sewer to the first manhole and climbed out. Standing next to it, waiting, was Pablo and Welk. "Hello son."Guillermo said. "Hi."Pablo said. "This is Calvin Galeein."Guillermo said while gesturing at Galeein. "Umm. Hello."Galeein said while waving. "All right, we need to go help Patrick. He's probably going to be overrun soon." Pablo said. "I'll flank."Guillermo said. "I'll go with Pablo and Welk."Galeein said. Guillermo left the rest of them and climbed back into the sewer. Galeein followed Pablo and Welk. A comm station down the hall began beeping. "I'll get it."Galeein said. "Its probably a trap." Pablo said. "Pfft. Doubt it."Galeein said."Cavys aren't that smart." "You were a Cavy."Pablo said. "Yes, but I managed to slip by about a hundred on my way here."Galeein said."They're stupid." Galeein broke off, ahead of the group when his leg began bugging him again. He slowed his pace but continued walking. He hadn't been able to take his pills. They were sitting in his desk at Outpost Hope. He fought through the pain and continued toward the comm station. Relings must know something. Something about his past. Otherwise he knew Galeein wouldn't even think about participating. Whatever information Relings had, Galeein was determined to get it. He just didn't want to betray his new allies in the process. Galeein reached the comm station and pressed accept on the touch screen. The comm station made a quiet humming then Relings' face appeared on screen. "Here's the deal."Relings began. Galeein listened to his every word intently. Brin's eyes fluttered open. He glanced at his surroundings. Slowly, he pulled himself up off the table. He was back in the Guard Station. "Hello?" He said. Nobody responded. He walked toward the door and tumbled short of it. His legs were asleep. He crawled out into the hallway. "Hello?" He asked again. Still no answer. Brin pushed himself back up and attempted to walk again. Again, he stumbled and landed on his stomach. "Brin?"Someone asked. "Yeah."Brin said."Who is it?" "It's Welk."The person answered. "Where is everyone?"Brin asked. "Pablo and Galeein are down the hall."Welk answered."Patrick is near the tram station fighting of the guards. Guillermo is flanking." "Who is Guillermo?"Brin asked. "Oh. He's the guy that brought you back to us."Welk answered. "You mean the one that paralyzed me?"Brin asked. "Yeah."Welk said."He's sorry about that. He said you would have shot him otherwise." "I probably would have."Brin said. Pablo appeared next to Welk. "Hey Brin."Pablo said."Sorry about your nose." "That's all right."Brin said."I can't really feel it right now anyways." "Can you walk?"Pablo asked. "No."Brin said. "You stay with Brin."Pablo ordered Welk. "No."Brin said."Just leave me a gun. You guys will need all the help you can get. Welk you go with them." Pablo pulled his pistol out of his waistband and handed it to Brin. Then he gave him three clips. "Welk, give him two more clips." Pablo said. Welk handed the clips to Brin. After Brin took them Pablo and Welk left. The shadow of a third figure fell into step alongside them. Brin guessed it was Galeein. He fought back the temptation to empty the clip down the hall. He crawled back into the office and pulled himself onto a chair near the door. There he sat as Pablo, Welk, and Galeein treaded toward the battle taking place only a few hundred yards away. Brin placed the clips within reach and prepared to take out any guards that may pass. To his surprise, none did. After nearly a half an hour of waiting he decided to try and walk again. He pushed off the chair and stepped slowly to the door. "Time to help the others."He said to himself as he walked out the door. He stumbled downt he hall. The distance between him and the station seemed to increase with each passing step. He trudged on. As he apprached the station he didn't hear gun fire. He heard voices. He crouched down to try and remain unseen and tip-toed toward the station. "You sold us out Galeein!"Pablo shouted. "I didn't have a choice."Galeein replied."They've got my wife. She's the only thing I have left. I won't lose her for this war. I won't lose her for you!" Brin could feel his insides boil. Intense anger made him want to run out shooting. He knew that strategy would only end in him dying. A gun discharged. Brin peered around the corner. He saw everyone shuffle back a little. Apparently Galeein fired into the air. "Please, just don't try anything."Galeein pleaded."I don't want to kill you." Brin watched as Galeein turned toward the tunnel. He watched Patrick get up and dash at Galeein. Galeein turned quickly and fired two shots. Patrick's head lurched back. A crimson mist sprayed from the back. He collapsed and Brin could see that the back of his skull was gone. Probably laying on the tracks in a bunch of small pieces. Galeein turned toward Pablo and lowered the gun. Brin used this opportunity. He leaned out and fired three shots. One buried itself in Patrick's dead body. Another grazed Galeeins left hand. The other buried itself in his left leg. The leg he had injured in battled. Galeein collapsed clutching his leg. Brin emptied the rest of the clip at the three guards that were taking aim at him. Two of them fell. Pablo jumped up and tackled the last one. Brin reloaded his pistol and walked out into the station. He kicked Galeein's gun away from him and rolled him onto his back. "Go ahead."Galeein said."You've been wanting to." "You will help us take Outpost Hope. You will help us destroy Remnant. And we will help you get your wife back."Brin said. Galeein looked at him. Bewilderment shone in his eyes. Brin lowered the pistol and approached Guillermo and Welk. He untied them and gave Pablo his pistol back. "Came in handy."Brin joked. Pablo glanced at Patrick's dead body. He shook his head and walked away. "Thanks."He said from across the station. "So, now what do we do?"Welk asked. "Well, Galeein here agreed to help us take Outpost Hope."Brin said."Then he'll help us take Remnant and kill Relings. After that, I believe we'll be done." "Are you going to help us Guillermo?"Welk asked. "I don't see why not."Guillermo answered."I just need to take care of a few things first. I'll meet up with you at the Outpost Hope tram station." "Then we should get going." Pablo said."Thanks again dad." "My pleasure."Guillermo replied with a grin on his face. Pablo, Welk, and Brin helped Galeein get to the tram. They rode it back through the tunnels toward Outpost Hope. And toward one more obstacle in their mission for freedom. |

This is the only story that I have saved on my computer. The rest are lost on CCC. Damn that sucks. I was hoping to reread some of my earlier ones sometime soon. I'll see if Uncle Sam can e-mail me the PDF links. I was thinking of writing a sequel. Like where they actually attack Outpost Hope and Remnant. Do you think that's a good idea?
