Character Name: Gene Caitiff Age: 15 Gender: Male Type: Demon Weapon Partnered? No Image: ![]() Weapon form Clothing and description: Gene would like to think he seems average, typical, and ordinary, the kind of person one thinks is apart of the faceless crowd of every day life and can be looked over or ignored unconsciously. His hair is a light shade of black that tends to have a slight sheen on it when the sun hits it, and the boy's eyes are a striking shade of purple, an unusual color for someone who wishes to blend in so much. In fact, commenting on the shade of his eyes is a good way to get the boy starting into a confused and stuttering mess, highly embarassed, while looking for a good hole to stick his head in. Gene's hair is short, but not cropped, long enough to have bangs that can fall into his vision, but not long enough to be considered shoulder length. He attempts to keep it brushed and under control, but some stubborn strands tend to poke out regardless. The boy stands at 5'6" making him lean on the short side of the spectrum in terms of male height, a fact which he is grateful for since it might aid him in hiding. Gene tends to look slightly nervous at all times, prone to random twitching or shifty eyes. His build is also looks less than impressive, he seems far too skinny and the hue of his skin is pale, bordering on sickly while still managing to keep some color on it, as though its fighting a desperate, but ultimately futile battle. The pale color of Gene's skin tells of how much time he dedicates to spending inside Despite his weak looking body, Gene is actually quite strong, his muscles is densely packed into his form rather than budging outwardly, coupled with having very little fat on his person, making him quite heavier than he actually looks, weighing in at 175 lbs. The clothes he wears, being formal business suits, coupled with a tie, no matter what the occasion, actually fills out his frame and makes his body type seem average. To Gene, there is no such thing as 'casual wear', and he'll wear a dark grey scarf around his neck to complete the ensemble. Thin framed glasses are worn over his eyes, of unnotable quality, and he carries around a pack filled with 'how-to' books or information on a mission he might be going on. Gene's weapon form is that of an old fashioned or perhaps 'vintage' Syringe with a hypodermic needle. Despite its frail looking appearance, like that of Gene's human form, the syringe is strong and sturdy, capable of blocking swords and other bladed weaponry without so much of a crack, but the needle itself is particularly deadly looking. His weapon form is four and a half inches long, with the needle contributing an inch to that. It has no decorative features to it, looking quite bland and sterile, like any piece of equipment for a doctor. History: Gene was born to former Death Scythe Jeane Fairsky and doctor Craven Caitiff. His mother is actually one of the few Death Scythes at Shibusen who managed to retire, having retreated from the active duty roster after meeting her husband and settling down in Boulder City, opening a Clinic. Gene inherited his weapon form from his mother, meaning she is a syringe as well, though she used her abilities to create healing and preformance enhancing solutions from her wavelength, having her meister inject themselves in order to buff themselves to face whatever threat, or do the opposite and make poisons to hinder and debilitate the enemy. Jeane found the ongoing violent battle to preserve balance, while something necessary, not truly where her abilities lay, rather wishing to help people in any way she could, hence the opening of the clinic with her husband. Though she had not truly cut ties with Shibusen, occasionally visiting Death City to help with medical situations when she could, though those trips started to die down once her son was born. The young healthy baby boy was a bundle of energy growing up, eager to learn more and see more about the world, even at the cost of a bump into the table or falling down and scraping his knee. Gene was a tough little runt and didn't cry to the surprise of his parents, but instead kept on with his inquisitive nature. As he grew older it turned into dare devil stunts, the boy seeming as if he aspired to be a tiny Evel Knievel. His friends loved it, and he loved the adrenaline rush that came with doing fearsome stunts and risky acts. Naturally his parents had an objection to this and scolded him whenever they caught the lad, caring for his safety and finding this blatant disregard for his personal wellbeing worrying. Gene himself never once felt a 'fear of dying' or 'fear of getting hurt' taking the little scraps he got or bruises in stride with a cheery grin. But as it was his lack of fear was to be the source of his trauma. At the age of seven, out playing with his friends tossing a ball around, one of the other kids accidentally lost their grip on it and the ball rolled into the street. Gene went after it without hesitation, certain nothing bad would happen to him as nothing ever did, and completely sure in his faith that he could avoid an oncoming car and get back with it in time. Well, he couldn't, and the boy had been hit since he stupidly ran out in front of a car that wouldn't have struck him had he simply waited for it to pass rather than try and risk a fatal collision. Thankfully his mother's healing abilities managed to prevent him from falling into shock or getting any worse as they brought him back from death's door, but an irreversible scar had been laid upon his psyche. Gene now knew what fear was and what he had to fear. The once outgoing and energetic lad turned into a shut in desperate to keep himself out of harm's way. His friends were confused at this sudden change, the kid they were used to seeing around so often practically disappeared, he'd go to school but wouldn't talk, and the closest he'd come to going outside was looking out the window. In his paranoia the boy turned to trying to train himself, believing that if he could become stronger he could live with his fears. Though try as he might, strengthening his body led to nothing, his mind still fell prey to dark whispers and paranoid thoughts. With that he sought knowledge, learning the medicine and practices of his parents as best he could. The constantly changing and erratic nature of their son only worried his parents further, and they came to the decision that it would be best if he was sent to Shibusen to learn how to face his fears and learn that coming to terms with it and living with them rather than trying to forget them is the proper path, and that his current actions and lifestyle could lead to him becoming a Kishin Egg. Upon arriving at Shibusen, Gene only felt like his circumstances would get worse. For one, despite the fact that his mother had been a Death Scythe, he was still an unusual 'weapon' that some would find distasteful. He wasn't like a standard sword or gun, and lacked the certain allure that such things had. This led to him developing an even worse inferiority complex and hurting his chances of aligning wavelengths with possible partners. With the release of the Kishin this only became worse, and he started developing hallucinations and having horrible nightmares, Gene's own soul compatible with the 'Wavelength of Insanity' released by the Kishin and increasing his fearful nature. The culmination of this is the creation of a 'Clown' which only he can percieve and hear. One might even believe this is just a result of his own madness, and the Clown acts as a sort of companion to the boy. It is practically the only being that he can 'trust' and while he might not always listen to its advice he'll consider it. It started as brief whispers in the back of his head, little self doubts that everyone tends to have and vocalize inside of themselves. But it wasn't like that voice 'belonged' to him, while it was in his head and had the tone of his voice, it wasn't him, and he slowly became more conscious of it the longer it went on. From that little voice came nightmares in his sleep, preventing him from getting any rest he afforded himself and driving the boy's paranoia even further. He shied even further from others and acted much like he had at home, shutting himself away only to focus on training to put distance between himself and his fears. But the dreams did not stop, and they ceased to stay only dreams, going into hallucinations, visions, things that only he could see, and the whisper in his head told him it could make those things go away, if only he listened. Gene listened, and the Clown came, making good on its promise and providing him shelter from the horrors of his own mind. Since then he came to trust it, but like with all things Gene cannot bring himself to not be suspicious of something as it is simply his nature. Personality: Gene is, first and foremost, a coward. One might not notice it at first glance, but his soul is that of a paranoid and fearful person, withdrawn and introverted. He cannot bring himself to rely on others entirely, and if someone was to accomplish such a feat it would speak volumes of how highly he would consider them. He sticks to routines and lists finding comfort in the ordinary and mundane. He can be convinced to deal with others if it means ensuring his continued survival though it will be done in an almost begrudging fashion, and he'll be expecting a stab in the back at any given moment, while not voicing it. With his cowardly nature one might assume he would shy from a fight, but instead he would welcome it, finding that it would be a way of getting stronger, and being strong would help him live, and living is good because dying is a very, very horrible thing. The Clown is another side of his personality, the result of his fears, constantly whispering to him and speaking of how he could 'free him from fear', and while Gene is desperate for that, and trusts the Clown, he still has his misgivings and believes that anything that he could do should be done first before relying on it. Nevertheless he has a sort of friendly bond to the creature made from his mind, and feels slightly more confident whenever it's around. It has provided him with support and never lied to him, made good on its promises whenever it made one, and shown no reason for him to, quite bluntly, not trust it. But it is precisely because he has no reason not to trust it he finds himself suspicious of it. Gene is a cautious person, and a paranoid person, suspecting someone or something of having ulterior motives is something he simply does or rather, because he has ulterior motives when dealing with others, no matter what the situation is, he expects them to do the same. Because he's antisocial he wouldn't approach someone else, willingly, without a reason for doing so, and that reason would have to be something that furthers his own personal goals: his continued survival, or becoming stronger. If someone can be put into assisting either of those, as stated above, he will try to get along with them. Another key part to the boy is his fear of death, having lived his early childhood as 'fearless' led to him not knowing how to handle being afraid when he first experienced it, so any situation where he feels that he is, without a doubt, one hundred percent likely 'to die' will lead to him going insane with fear, succumbing to madness in an attempt to survive whatever threat to his life. A few simple injuries wouldn't cut it, he has learned to deal with pain and bear with it, as long as his life isn't at risk and he can still see himself escaping relatively intact. But throw Gene somewhere he can't run and face him with the prospect of dying and he'll flat out panic and go berserk. There are rare points where the boy is lucid and calm, where he'll be less panicky and even crack a poor joke or two, showing curiosity of the unknown and a thirst to learn, remnants of his younger personality. Though such a thing would only occur around a person or place he feels 'safe' or the near the influence of someone who has a wavelength that can resist the affects of insanity. Without the anti-insanity wavelength he'd merely stick to being his usual paranoid self. Abilities: Strong and tough for a student of Shibusen, Gene is capable of withstand a good amount of damage is dangerous in close range. He's capable of lifting an adult human with one hand and likewise tossing them, with a strong crushing grip in his hands. He also has a thorough understanding of the human body thanks to his knowledge in medicine. Technique Name: Full Transformation - Syringe Effects/Description: Gene transforms into an old fashion syringe, capable of condensing his meister's wavelength and 'injecting' it within an enemy, disrupting the enemies wavelength for a short time, depending on how strong his meister's soul is and their resonance. His needle is capable of piercing through other demon weapons as well. He is capable of injecting his meister's, or his own wavelength into his enemies, physically and mentally disorienting them as well as preventing them from using their own abilities for five minutes until the effect wears off. However the effects decrease the more someone experiences this, so it's best used as a surprise attack to cripple and then go in for the kill. He could also put air into someone's blood stream in an attempt to cause an embolism and kill someone with a stroke or heart attack. When under the influence of madness Gene can turn blood into a corrosive acid. Technique Name: Partial Transformation Effects/Description: Gene can transform one of his fingers, normally his pointer finger, into the needle of his syringe, injecting his wavelength into enemies or boosting his own body by injecting himself. Technique Name: Madness of Fear Effects/Description: Gene can, during times of extreme stress or a particularly deadly circumstance, succumb to insanity, his brand of madness being directly connected to fear and as such boosted by the effects of the Kishin Asura. In doing so he will lose all reason, equivalent to a berserker and unable to distinguish friend from foe, merely lashing out at anything he perceives as a threat. The already strong boy becomes even stronger, capable of ripping a streetlight out of the ground and turning it into a makeshift weapon, or tossing a car at an opponent. Any sense of pain practically disappears, making him capable of fighting with an arm that might have bones dislocated or broken or running on injured legs. His weapon form darkens and the needle becomes useful for sucking out the blood of the opponent or his own meister, twisting it with his now insane wavelength and spitting it back out as a corrosive acid. However, significantly powerful opponents can simply force him to retreat on sight, and any injuries he already has or receives will come back to him in full force once the madness passes. Gene relies purely on instinct in this state, and at this point he cannot consciously use this ability. Any person wielding him in this state is liable to be driven mad as well, though because it originates from Gene's fear of death and his personal will to live, the meister would be influenced to focus on keeping him alive rather than themselves. Combat Style: Prone to making the first move, Gene relies on severely crippling his enemy in the first blow by aiming at pressure points or vital spots on the body, his intent to disable them. If he cannot do that he will continually aim to weaken his enemy overtime, turning any fight into a 'war of attrition'. When faced by stronger opponents it's likely for him to turn tail and run. He specializes against human opponents, due to having extensive knowledge of its weakpoints. Miscellaneous Information: The 'Clown' which follows him around can be seen and heard by anyone resonating souls with him. It appears as a vaguely humanoid being made of twisting pipe-like structures at random, with one arm looking like an umbrella with fingers at the tip. It stands at seven feet tall with the umbrella arm being the biggest part of its body aside from it's torso, the rest of it being thin and stringy. It has a wavelength of its own being a mix of Gene's and the Kishin Asura's though Gene's wavelength sticks out more due to the clown being born of his madness more than the Kishin's. Gene has a thing for biting his nails when extremely nervous. His fear of dying can also cause him to freeze up when faced with his mortality. Strengths:

Hello, Xain! Marie here, it's about time I posted this moderation! I apologise for the delay... I'm sorry to keep you waiting! Still, though, here we are! This profile looks really good, I'll be honest. It's well-written, that's for sure. There aren't really any glaring issues with this profile, just small things. It is my job to make sure that everything in it makes sense though, so... let's proceed with that! Appearance: I'd like to be sure that all the bases are covered just in case an image doesn't show. In this case, it's that you should include a description of his hairstyle and the length of his hair within the description. History: This is a good, solid history. The thing I'm going to ask you to expand upon is the Clown mentioned toward the end, however. I don't mind if you intend to keep the details a little mysterious about the Clown, but could you maybe indulge us with a little more information on how Gene came to "acquire" it in his mind? Was the Clown's appearance in Gene's life a big, sudden event, or was it gradual? What was his initial opinion on it? Personality: You've done a great job of explaining his paranoia. There are only a couple of subjects I'd like to address. First, Gene trusts the Clown and is friendly with it, but is also suspicious of it? Could you please give an example or description of how interactions between the two go in order to make this a little more clear? At the moment, the description is just slightly awkward. With that said, can you expand on his madness slightly? His personality suggests that he would be the type of person to succumb to madness easily, but the personality section itself doesn't go into it too much. I see that you have a nice description in his abilities. Could you perhaps tie those two together by giving us an idea of what exactly sets him off into "true" insanity mode? By that, I'm just asking "what do 'times of extreme stress' mean to Gene" since he seems to be under a lot of stress constantly anyway? One more small thing. Does Gene ever outwardly show many other emotions aside from nervousness (i.e. a sudden outburst of excitement), or is his paranoid outlook an unwavering constant? Abilities: This looks pretty nice, there's really only one issue I see here. Can you go into more detail under Gene's "Madness of Fear" ability? At the moment, it's just sort of unspecific about how it is an actual ability (rather than more of a personality trait). Does the madness have an effect on his individual power level or output? How about when he is in his weapon form? How does he act when suffering from madness in weapon form, and does it do anything to change the way his weapon form is used? Does it have an effect on a meister if they are wielding him? Miscellaneous Information: Since a potential partner would be able to see the Clown, could you give a physical description of what the Clown looks like here? Thanks a lot for those edits, it's looking just about in tip-top shape now. :D They did bring to light a couple of questions I'd like you to address before Gene gets the stamp of approval, though. Abilities: Can you further define how the injections his demon syringe form gives affect a friend or foe? I reccommend that you to devote a separate ability to the injections themselves, seeing as they seem to have unique effects that are important to the usage of the weapon on himself, friendlies and foes. Is the ability to inject his meister's wavelength into a foe the same as the poison he can make on his own? If not, what effect does the poison have on an enemy? Is it lethal, hurtful, a "debuff", or something else? How potent is it? When does it wear off, if at all? Also, what effect does the "buff" injection have upon the people he injects it with? Is it always the same effect no matter what, or can he increase different "stats"? How long do the buffs stay in effect? And lastly, can you include a reference to the syringe's effects under the influence of madness (the blood/corrosive acid bit)? That way, all of the different types of injections that Gene can perform are all nice and organized. His weapon form is unique, so I think having a good definition of how it works is important. Thank you! |

Yeah I meant to point out that he couldn't do that buff or debuff thing yet and just reference it as a possibility. Took the whole thing out to make it clearer but clarified the wavelength thing and pointed out he could put air into other people's bloodstreams. Should look better now. |

All right! I've consulted the other mods, and since everything is cleared up, this profile is looking pretty great! There was some slight consternation with how powerful Gene might get in insane mode, but you seem like a reasonable roleplayer, so I don't see that being a problem. I'm happy to stamp this profile with an Accepted! 8D |
