Character Name: Jeremiah “Cole” Colbourne Alias: Jericho Age: 16 Gender: Male Type: Demon Weapon Partnered? No Image: ![]() Weapon Form Clothing and description: Cole is a fairly athletic and muscular man, due to his daily training regimen that he has kept up for the past three years. His skin is somewhere between pale and tanned, and is spotted with a few minor scars gained in battle. His black hair is kept short and neat, with his bangs combed to his left. One of his nervous ticks is to brush his hair to the left, and out from in front of his blue eyes. He stands at around 5'10'', and has a face and build that can be quite intimidating when he frowns. To avoid giving people this image of him, he smiles almost constantly, except when in battle or any other time he needs to concentrate. Because they share the same body, there is only one physical difference between Cole and Jericho. That is the color of their eyes, which changes to a dark golden color when Jericho takes over. Cole almost always wears dark clothes, even in warm weather. His casual attire around Death City consists of black jeans and a tucked-in t-shirt, usually colored a dark earthy tone. He often wears fingerless black leather gloves, and his footwear consists entirely of black boots of various sorts. When in climates a bit cooler than Death City, he also wears a dark blue jacket that is almost black in color. Its many pockets provide plenty of storage for whatever items he thinks might be useful on a mission, such as his lighter, pocket knives, and so on. When Jericho takes over and goes on a hunt, he dons a dark blue, nearly black duster-style coat with concealed holsters inside for his dual pistols over Cole's usual t-shirt and jeans attire. He also adds a black belt with several pouches for extra clips and sheathes for his black-hilted daggers. Finally, to preserve his disguise as Cole, Jericho also wears a black wide-brimmed leather hat and a white mask with black one-way lenses for his eyes and a red smiley mouth painted on. Cole and Jericho's shared weapon form is called a chain-sword or whip-sword. It is made of twenty-four interlocking blades, with edges on either side of each segment and a sharp point on the segment at the tip. When locked together in its retracted form, the blade of Cole's weapon form is approximately four feet long, not including the hand-and-a-half hilt. Stored in the cavities between the blades is a two foot long piece of metal wire, which allows the sword to be wielded as a whip when the blades are released. At its full extension, this whip-blade is forty-eight feet long, making it a relatively long range and versatile weapon. The hilt of the sword is quite simple, with a basic pommel and no hiltguard. It is wrapped in wire similar to that which connects the segments of the blade. The whole weapon is a silvery-white color, and gleams brightly in sunlight. It is also quite reflective, making it good for viewing around corners or signaling others with reflected light. History: Jeremiah Colbourne, or Cole as he prefers to be called, was born into a perfectly normal family. His father worked at a moderately sized tech company, his mother stayed home and cared for him and his older sister. All in all, a totally normal childhood... except for one thing. Cole had a brother that no one knew about. Not even Cole himself was aware of the missing sibling for most of his life. When the two brothers had been conceived, two souls were born inside their mother's womb. But due to some complications, only one body was formed, and the two souls were compacted together inside. By pure chance, it was Cole's soul that took dominance over the body, and thus Cole who everyone knew and recognized as being alive. His twin brother was never acknowledged, because no one ever knew he had been born. As the two grew up, the forgotten brother tried to gain some control over their shared body. He managed it on occasion, causing Cole to “black out” and forget what he did while “asleep.” But even then, Cole's brother knew he wasn't being noticed. On the few occasions he did gain control and interact with people, they still called him Jeremy or Cole. It took time, but he eventually realized that no one knew that he even existed. Not even Cole himself. And with the realization came jealousy. A jealousy that kindled the fires of insanity in his young mind. But the spurned brother would not get his chance to reveal himself until much later in life. When he and Cole turned thirteen, his chance finally came. Cole's family was having a birthday party for him, just the four of them, when a Kishin Egg attacked. It had smelled Cole's souls, and decided they would make a tasty meal. In mere moments Cole's parents were dead at his feet, and he and his sister sat clinging to each other in fear as the demented killer stood over them, bladed hand raised for the kill. In that moment of mental fragility, Cole's brother seized his chance. He pushed against his brother's mind. Hard. The Kishin Egg paused mid-swing as a dark energy began to grow around Cole's body, and the young boy's eyes turned a dark golden color. Then the forgotten brother spoke for the first time with his own voice, “I speak, therefore I am. Hello, world.” Both the Kishin Egg and Cole's sister were stunned by the strange voice coming from Cole's mouth, and that split second of indecision was all the newly awakened personality needed to spring into action. He dived under the killer's swing, and grabbed his father's pistol from where it had fallen from his hand. Shoving the barrel of the weapon in the surprised Kishin Egg's face, Cole's brother pulled the trigger. The air grew still and quiet as the Kishin Egg's body evaporated and its red soul floated in front of the triumphant Colbourne. Finally breaking the silence, Cole's sister asked, “Cole...? Is... that you?” Cole's brother gave his sister a quizzical glance and said, “I don't know. Is that my name? Am I Cole? His name is Jeremy. Jeremy Colbourne. I am not him and he is not me, and yet still we are the same. No, I am not Cole. But seeing as how I have no name of my own, I will call myself... Jericho.” Without any further comment, Jericho took the Kishin Egg's soul and shoved it down his throat, swallowing it whole. His sister could only watch, horrified, as he proceeded to do the same to their mother and father's souls, saying only, “You never loved me. You never knew me. Well now you can be part of me.” With that he turned to his sister and pointed the gun at her head. “You smell tasty...” However, before he could pull the trigger, Cole reasserted himself. “NO! STOP!” he shouted, his other arm grabbing the one holding the gun and forcing it to point to the floor. For another several seconds the two struggled with each other for control of their shared body, until finally Jericho forced Cole back and resumed control. Still, not wanting to risk Cole regaining control, he dropped the gun and said, “Fine, fine! Have it your way, Jeremy. We'll leave then, but don't cross paths with me again, big sister. I won't be so kind next time.” With that, the newly born Kishin Egg left, leaving behind a decimated home and terrified sister. The next day, Jericho discovered his unique power. By “digesting” the souls he eats, he can assimilate their powers, including the weapon form of the Kishin Egg he had just killed. Now in possession of a weapon form, Jericho knew immediately what he would do with it. The call of potentially infinite power beckoned him, and who was he to refuse? But even as Jericho was setting out down the path of the Kishin Egg, his brother Cole was asserting his will in another direction. Because Cole's soul was not the one that consumed the innocent souls of his mother and father, his soul remained untainted, but he was surprised to find he had access to the weapon form Jericho had assimilated as well, possibly due to the fact that they shared the same body. With a newly ignited hatred of Kishin Eggs driving him and a weapon form empowering him, Cole made his way to Shibusen, where he enrolled as a weapon. Because his soul was untainted, most everyone in the school didn't even know about his brother's Kishinizing soul. The faculty knew, of course, but decided that keeping one's enemies close was never a bad idea, and that they could best help Cole be rid of his brother by allowing him into the school. In the three years that followed, Cole fought alongside various meisters and gained nine Kishin Egg souls. However, he has yet to find someone with whom he resonates well, and is constantly worried people will find out about Jericho, as he doesn't know that the teachers already know. Meanwhile, Jericho remained mostly in hiding, allowing Cole's soul to act as his disguise. He has been making underground connections, however. He has now completed his preparations, and is ready to appear on the scene as “Jericho: Soul Hunter.” He will offer his services to hunt down any strong soul, be it a Kishin Egg, witch, meister, or weapon. Cole remains mostly unaware of what his brother does, but does frequently try to talk to him and convince him to stop. Naturally, his pleas fall on deaf ears, as reason never really seems to work on the insane. Personality: Cole is a fairly easy to get along with guy. He enjoys making friends and is very loyal those he befriends. However, because of his problems with his brother, he tends to be hard to get really close to, as he's always afraid Jericho will come out and hurt those he cares for. He has a mild case of paranoia when it comes to things pertaining to his brother, and fears that his secret might be discovered. Due to this paranoia, he is acutely aware of people with hidden motives, and has gained not inconsiderable skill in lying and hiding his own intentions. He tends to avoid doing so except when it comes to the subject of his sibling troubles, but he is quite capable of bluffing his way out of just about any situation. The only thing keeping him from doing so is his vaunted sense of nobility. He hates to resort to trickery when honest effort can prevail, and has a bit of a hero complex as a result. He always tries to stand up for what's right, and hates to see people hurt. That said, he is a realist, or even a pessimist depending on who you ask. If he doesn't believe getting involved in a situation would help any, he won't. And if an action would risk revealing his secret brother to others, he will not take it, no matter how much he might want to. Due to his past experiences with them, Cole hates all Kishin Eggs with a passion. He would go out of his way to kill them even if it wasn't necessary to becoming a Death Scythe. Like all weapons, this is of course his goal in life. However, in Cole's case, he wants to be a Death Scythe because he thinks it might help him defeat his brother and claim full control over his own body. While he loves to kill Kishin Eggs, he does have some trouble with ones that appear human. He still couldn't bring himself to take the life of any non-Kishinized human, as he fears that doing so would make him more like his brother. His ultimate fear is that Jericho might fully take him over, or worse, that he might become exactly like his insane brother. Jericho, unlike Cole, is very much unfriendly. Because he is infected with madness, his actions can be fairly unpredictable, but his goal always remains the same in any situation: gain more power. His ambition is to “digest” every kind of power there is by eating the souls of those he hunts. Nothing excites him more than the thrill of the hunt and the rush that comes from devouring his prey's soul. Because of his self-serving attitude, he can't successfully resonate with a meister, which he doesn't mind because he prefers his autonomy anyway. The only reason Jericho would ever work with anyone was if it was necessary to his own survival. In this same vein, he views his brother Cole as a necessary evil, since he provides the disguise Jericho needs to move freely when not on the hunt. However, he does greatly look forward to the day that he is powerful enough to destroy his worthless sibling and assume control of their body full time without fearing Shibusen's wrath as a result. To Jericho, it doesn't matter who he is asked to kill. Kishin Egg, meister, and weapon are all fair game so long as they have interesting powers for him to assimilate. He refers to souls that have unique and interesting abilities inside them as “tasty.” Jericho enjoys messing with his opponents in battle by taunting them and demoralizing them, especially by telling them their soul looks tasty. His flippant, carefree attitude towards combat and death gives him the appearance of being somewhat simple-minded. However, despite his insanity, Jericho's mind is quite sharp and analytical. All the jokes and bumbling “mistakes” he makes are acts meant to disarm an opponent and catch them unawares. He also employs similar tactics on the rare occasion he finds himself in a social situation. He talks with a simple vocabulary and acts much duller than he is, and then catches others off guard and manipulates them into saying or doing what he wants. Jericho never stops scheming, even whilst “dormant” inside his brother's head. On the rare occasion Jericho takes over from Cole in the midst of battle, he is liable to attack friend and foe alike, if their souls look tasty enough. However, this behavior may be deterred by a lack of nearby usable weapons, in which case Jericho will usually just run away. Abilities: Cole is quite strong and athletic, though he is merely average for a Shibusen student. He can hold his own in hand-to-hand combat, but is mostly ineffectual without a meister, as he cannot partially transform. He is an excellent strategist and can advise his meister on tactics and keep him apprised of the situation on the battlefield. He can study an enemy's fighting style and determine their weaknesses fairly quickly, which makes him useful in a support role in addition to his weapon form's versatility and range. Jericho is much more practiced at hand-to-hand combat than his brother, and is very fast on his feet and devastatingly accurate with his attacks. He wields dual pistols and daggers interchangeably, and with equal skill. Like his brother, Jericho thinks on his feet and adapts to the situation, though his tactics tend to be more straight forward (pointy end goes in the squishy thing that screams and bleeds). Shared Abilities Technique Name: Full Transformation (Chain Sword) Effects/Description: Cole transforms into his weapon form, a multi-segmented chain sword. Each of the twenty-four blades that make up the sword are razor sharp on either side and each is connected to the other by two feet of strong metal wire. The blades can lock together to form a traditional sword blade that is about four feet long in total, or they can separate and be wielded like a whip thanks to the wire that binds them together. Naturally, the weapon is somewhat difficult to wield in its released form, but the range and utility of it help make up for it. Typically the weapon is wielded by swinging the sword, and releasing the blades mid-swing, essentially extending the reach of the sword's swing. The whip-like blade can then wrap around opponents, allowing further damage to be done by retracting the blades into their locked state quickly. The mechanism for releasing and retracting the blades is controlled by Cole, so he and his meister must work well in tandem to use his weapon form to its maximum potential. Jericho's Abilities Technique Name: Soul Digestion Effects/Description: When Jericho eats the soul of a being with some kind of unique power, such as a weapon form or magic powers, he may attempt to “digest” this soul in order to gain the power for himself. This technique requires time and the power from multiple other souls (in other words, a training thread) to be successful, and can only grant Jericho one of the powers a soul might contain. For example, if a soul Jericho digests has both soul perception and a weapon form, he would have to choose which he wanted to assimilate before beginning the process. Most of the time, powers Jericho assimilates can be used only by himself, and not Cole. The exceptions to this rule are powers that directly affect the body, such as weapon forms or enhance senses or strength. These Cole can access, though they are often more difficult than it would be for Jericho to do so. However, abilities that do not directly affect their shared body can only be used by the soul that digested them. Combat Style: Cole is mostly worthless without a meister. He cannot partially transform, and has only average hand-to-hand skills. If he is separated from his meister in battle, he will fight defensively, focusing on reuniting with his meister or escaping, if necessary. Cole prefers to stay out of direct conflict when in human form and analyze the situation so he can best advise his teammates. When fighting with a meister, Cole's concentration is partially focused on operating his weapon form along with his meister, and so he has less time to observe the foe and offer advice. However, he can still watch an opponent for weaknesses while in weapon form, it just takes longer than it would if he were watching from the sidelines. Jericho, on the other hand, prefers to be right in the thick of combat. His typical fighting style is to dash in with either his pistols or daggers and engage the foe in close-quarters combat. This reckless style throws enemies off-guard for his eventual trump card that will finish his foe off in one, often spectacular, attack. Jericho can't aim very well from a distance, and so prefers to get in close even when using ranged weapons like his pistols. While not exactly fragile, Jericho does prefer not to get hit, and dodges around in erratic evasive patterns. His blows are usually very shallow up until the final finishing move. Miscellaneous Information: Cole and Jericho each have a specific nervous tick they indulge in when they have nothing better to do with their hands, or need to think about something. Cole brushes his bangs to his left, while Jericho adjusts his hat. Cole is left-handed, and Jericho is ambidextrous. Cole's Strengths:

Yoiii ZX~~ Everything in here looks pretty well thought out ^^ I think you might’ve confused Jericho/Cole a few times, but it could just be a few awkward sentences in your history. After talking to Imp I’m pretty okay with everything. The only real mod I would ask if that Jericho has terrible aim. He’s awesome at pretty much everything else, so it would be good for him to have a drawback :3 (I don’t count ‘working solo’ as a weakness when the character is awesome at fighting and takes their own weapons—because then there is no drawback) Other than that- good work! |

Okay, that makes sense. I've changed the line in his combat style and added it in his weaknesses. Thanks to both of you for all your fast responses, as always. ^^ |
