Clothing and description: Thor is a mildly pale, rather large man. Standing at a full 6 feet, and generally having a large build, Thor gives off an aura of size beyond his body. Yet, he prevents himself from being intimidating with poor posture, very casual, simple clothes, usually cargo shorts, a shirt with some simple design or another, and a light jacket. He tops it off with a small goatee and a beanie covering some of his short, dark red hair.

His eyes are small, leaving no practical difference between squinting, or glaring, and him simply closing his eyes. Even wide open, his eyelids cover parts of his dull, dark blue irises. Between them is a slightly bulbous, larger than average nose, in the middle of a very round face. His jawline and chin are not well defined, but still noticeable. Continuing down, a short neck connects to very broad shoulders and a wide, not entirely muscle chest. His arms, however, a long, and more muscularly defined, as are his legs.

In weapon form, Thurman is a large, circular, silver shield, 1 meter in diameter. He’s heavy, designed to bash and beat as much as to defend. The underside of the shield is made of wood and covered in leather padding. The handle is designed such that it straps to the entire forearm.

History: The Searle family is an odd one in many ways. Each generation was born and raised in a different country than the previous. Even stranger, every generation, the family of the middle child has 3 children, a meister and two weapons, one that turns into a type of armor, and the other into a type of weapon. Thus, in times of danger, the three children can defend the house together, even if they aren’t official partners. For reasons unknown, the three always arrive in the same order. The oldest child forms the armor, or some other kind of defensive weapon, offering the protection of wisdom gained by age. The youngest child is the weapon, the reckless and offense-oriented style of youth. Finally, the middle child is the meister, bridging the gap between the two. The final oddity is that the style of the weapons typically matches the locale where they were raised, with very little deviation.

If the family histories are to be believed, this has happened several generations. Knowing this, Thurman’s mother, the previous middle child, began to enforce these facts into Thor: as the oldest, he was the armor. He exists to protect, to defend his family and his meister from harm. Thus, he is there to defend his younger brother and sister from harm. He was constantly reminded of how he should be. And he accepted this, and it was reinforced when he discovered his form. He was the shield. This fact defined his very existence. Thor followed the pattern to a ‘T’. Having been born in Greece, he took the form of a hoplite’s shield

However, after him, this most recent generation has deviated from the pattern somewhat. Through a mix of misfortune, and minor financial troubles due to a drought, his parents delayed having more children for around 10 years, meaning his siblings are too young to even begin to train with; his brother being 7 and his sister 5. After waiting to decide what to do and realizing that Thor needed more actual experience while they had the chance, the family enrolled Thor in Shibusen at 17, and his family moved into Death City.

Personality: Thor is a shield. He has a diminished sense of self-worth and is naturally self-sacrificial. The primary reason he has a fear of death and wants to avoid it is less a want to live and more based on the fact that a dead shield is a useless shield. In addition, he has a more black and white view of the world. You’re either his ally, thus someone to be guarded or you’re someone to guard against.

Under less urgent situations, though, Thor is lazy. It is as if all of his effort is focused towards his duty, and little else truly matters. If he doesn’t have to defend something right then and there, he has little to no drive to do much of anything.

To other people, Thor seems reserved, but not silent. It is less because he is quiet, and more because he doesn’t truly feel he has a lot to say. He prefers to be concise. But he does not try to distance himself from others, although that may happen simply because he does not view some things as important enough to say,. In fact, he trusts them implicitly. Having never experienced it, he does not fully grasp the concept of true betrayal. He mentally understands it, but it is a concept for far-away people to make stories more dramatic, and lies are small things that, while stupid, aren’t truly dangerous. How could this fellow human being in front of them be capable of such things?

Abilities:

Technique Name: Full Transformation
Effects/Description: Thor can turn completely into a large, circular, silver shield, 1 meter in diameter, with a wooden back covered in leather padding and a specialized grip designed to strap to the entire forearm. The shield bears simple engraved lines radiating outwards from a small dome in the center of the shield.

Technique Name: Partial Transformation
Effects/Description: Thor can also take on a hybrid form. He can choose to transform each part of his body individually, but it will always morph into the same thing. His arms and legs into the rim, his chest into the face of the shield, and his back can only transform into the wooden back of the shield. In other words, what his body can turn into depends on the corresponding area of the shield.

Technique Name: Presence of the phalanx
Effects/Description: The true defensive strength of a phalanx lay in its seamless unity. A single hoplite's shield was as much a guard for another as for its own master, and thus the phalanx's greatest strength and weakness was its need for others. However, Thor has no phalanx. Thus, he must improvise. As a shield, he can surround an area, slightly larger than most humans, within 40 feet, in a bubble of his soul. In doing so, he shrinks into a buckler. The bubble is can be attacked out of. The bubble absorbs and negates a single attack, then collapses. The bubble can move with the target. Thor can hold this, at most, for 15 seconds, after which he has to rest before using it again, and requires at least 2 seconds to form.

Combat Style: Thurman’s preferred strategy is simply outliving his opponent, relying on raw endurance to overcome his opponents. They will break before he does. He furthers this with his partial transportation, such as turning his chest into a metal sheet, to make himself even more durable. Because of this, he rarely makes an attack on his own; he only counters, taking the offensive only in extreme scenarios.

This style has resulted in very poor, predictable attacks on his part, however he has become very adept at reading others attacks.

Miscellaneous Information: Thor is not bad at the trombone, and likes to play it every now and then. Also, his real name irks him. He has developed a minor complex about his nose, believing it to be far larger than it is.

Strengths:

  • Endurance: This is his biggest strength, as he has it both physically and mentally in large quantities. In other words, once he starts something, he’s not likely to stop.
  • Patience: An off-shoot of his endurance. Thor rarely feels rushed
  • He is a shield: He mentally views himself as a shield. He lives to protect and defend.

Weaknesses:
  • In-battle weaknesses are ideal here (eg: slow, weak) but emotional weaknesses (eg: not good at making friends) are great too!
  • Lethargy: Thurman is slow to start just about anything, requiring either a great emergency or great effort on the part of those around him.
  • Slow: Physical speed is just not his schtick
  • Complacency: The darker side of his patience, Thurman actually feels little drive to change a given situation.
  • He is a shield: And is thus trusting. He is designed to accept and anticipate attacks from opponents from the front. Attacks from the back, he cannot handle. Thus, he does not consider nor anticipate the concept of betrayal.
  • Reduced sense of self: He's doesn't think he's worthless, just that everyone else is worth more.
  • Maps: While Thor's sense of direction is average or so, when a map gets involved, everything changes. For some unknown reason, be it his own mental block, a curse, or even the maps themselves hating him, the instant he tries to follow a map, Thor loses all sense or ability to navigate his surroundings.

Roleplay Sample: “Corina, what did I say about running off?” Thor chased after his younger sister, calling out to her. The young girl stopped just long enough to call back, “But Thor, there’s the candy store’s right over there!”

Thor sighed deeply, and walked slightly faster to keep up. That girl just has too much energy…

“I’m staying with you, so I’m going to get more candy, right big bro?” Einar jogged next to him, smiling broadly, pupils shining, up at him. These two could leave even him tired, and always made him feel a decade or two older whenever he was around them. And now they’re just going to get hyper from the candy. It’s a good thing I’m here, or else those two would surely get into an unprecedented amount of trouble.

“And candy is probably the only reason you’re sticking next to me. You’re as much of a goofball as Corina. How do you respond to that, hmmm?” The protest was loud and immediate. “That’s not true! I’m totally more serious than her, because I’m responsible!”

“Right, right…” Thor sighed and kept following his two siblings, at once dreading their impending sugar rush, and looking forward to their antics.

Yoiii Thurs! Welcome to 42!

I should start off with an apology- sorry it took us so long to get to this! You originally posted this up as a WIP and then didn’t tell us when it was done so we did not know :)

Description:
You’ve really got the ‘feel’ for the character down- what he’s like and how he comes off- but it would be great if you could physically describe him too :3 We have an awful lot of artists here so I really encourage you to nail down his details so they don’t give him fluro pink Mohawks and 3 arms :P

History & personality:
Quite nice quite nice ^_^

Ability & combat:
Does Thor have any special moves, such at soul perception or ‘makes a bubble of protection around the meister’ or anything else? :3 Just checking!

Could you also perhaps go into a tad more detail about his combat style? I understand he likes to be patient, but does he just literally stand there? Does he incorporate his partial transformation into his fights, or does he try to manhandle the opponent down to the ground?

Is he good, or does he suck at fighting?

Overall:
A nice profile ^_^ Thor is a shield to a ‘t.’

Ah, sorry about not making it clearer then. I understand how that could be ambiguous.

Anyways:
Description: So...I think I kinda suck at describing people's bodies, or at least his.. I got something of a laundry list down. I don't like it, but it adds some more detail of how he physically looks. Unfortunately, it kinda trails off towards the end.

History & personality:
Thanks!

Ability & Combat:
I'd been toying around with one, but it was a bit too offense oriented, and the mechanics of which would make a physicist cry himself to sleep. So I took your suggestion and warped it to fit some fluff. I'm not entirely sure how the mechanics of it should work, so I made it strong without being impenetrable and not permanent. Thoughts?

And I expanded how he fights a bit. I'd say he's mediocre. His way of fighting is in many ways extremely arrogant.

I think I covered everything. Thanks for the review!
