It seemed quiet in Shibusen- for the moment that was. Class was perhaps still in session, which made the thin girl feel like any sound she made while tip-toeing through the halls was an unwelcome disturbance of the peace. So this is Shibusen? She thought looking around with wide green eyes, It's so big... Indeed, the little mouse of a girl felt quite small just standing in the hallways. And Sanja wasn't even standing in the middle of the hall, no, instead she stood to the side, in a sort of slouch that begged not to be noticed, which could prove to be a hard feat in her current garb of navy and maroon. "Well, I-I've made it here. M-maybe I'll find a partner and make some-something of myself?" Sanjana whispered to no one in particular, the sound of her own voice was supposed to strengthen her resolve. Although, she would be behind most likely- the hindrance of home schooling- but perhaps, just perhaps that could be looked past for the moment and the timid girl could finally come into her own? ((OoC: Well um, yes hi there... it could have been longer I feel, but I don't have it in my at the moment. Don't judge me too harshly?)) |

Danielle made it a point to attend all of her classes, even the ones she couldn’t participate in. Classes where meister and weapon worked together, for example, were impossible for her to try, but even so, she attended. It was always possible that some of the trivia the teacher spouted off would show up later on a test or worksheet, and Danielle took her assignments seriously. She was enough of a disappointment to her parents; they didn’t need to see bad grades on top of failing to find a meister. Today however, was an exception. Though her class was indeed in session, she’d been given permission to leave – partially because this was a review day and she already knew the material, but mostly because she was beginning to get a pounding headache right between her ears. It wasn’t an uncommon occurrence, actually; her class was filled with loudmouths who had nothing better to do than yell at each other from across the room, and it was a particularly dry day, so her lack of water intake wasn’t helping matters. With a quiet sigh, Danielle raised blue sweater clad arms and rubbed at her temples with her fingers as she walked down the hallway, sneakers squeaking against the clean tiled floors. “I have got to get new sneakers,” she decided, wincing as a particularly loud squeak echoed through the hall. Despite the pain that persisted in her head, Danielle heard the whisper of a feminine voice, then, a split second later, spotted the culprit – a girl probably only an inch or so shorter than she was, shyness making her look even smaller. Danielle debated with herself for a moment, then mentally sighed and dropped her hands from her temple as she walked over. The poor girl looked terrified and lost, and Danielle knew all too well how intimidating Shibusen could be. “Hey,” she greeted the girl warmly, albeit quietly, and offered a hand, thanking her lucky stars that she at least sounded like a girl. “The name’s Danielle. You look a bit lost; are you new here?” ((Enjoy my post of failure!)) |

((Not failure =P)) Sanja jumped at the sound of this person, she had been so intently listening to her own heart pound that she hadn't heard even the squeak of this girl's shoes. She quickly searched this girl's- Danielle, she had said her name was?- face, for what it was not clear. The small girl then straitened and extended her hand slowly to grasp Danielle's, "I-I'm Sanjana, and y-yes I am a b-bit lost." Inwardly, she cursed her stutter. It was something she never could quite get rid of. Although it proved an excellent test of character- if this girl teased Sanja for her stutter then she was obviously not someone she would want to associate with. It would be nice to make friends though, even if they did poke a little fun... Sanjana tried to keep her eye contact, but it became too awkward for her and with a flutter of her eyelids she dropped her head and pretended to study the nonexistent pattern in the floor. |

The girl jumped at the sound of Danielle’s voice, clearly startled. She was only slightly surprised; though her shoes and footsteps had certainly been making enough noise to warn anyone of her arrival, the girl looked as though she were more scared than a field mouse caught in a trap. In fact, Danielle mused inwardly as the girl slowly looked up and stuttered a reply, taking her hand and shaking it carefully, the field mouse analogy wasn’t at all a bad one. Brown hair, skinny limbs, and green eyes combined with what was quite clearly a combination of fear and shyness practically described a field mouse. Sanjana dropped her gaze to stare at the floor. Though she couldn’t see it, Danielle smiled reassuringly. “Sanjana, huh?” she mused, aloud this time. “That’s a pretty name.” With a slight sigh and a wince, Danielle raised a hand to her forehead and pressed on a spot to the left. Within a few seconds, the pain that had lanced through her skull faded to a throbbing ache, and she let her hand fall back to her side. It only took a moment of considering the newcomer for Danielle to decide what to do next. “I’m going to go get some water and aspirin from the school nurse,” Danielle said after a moment. “Would you like to come with? I can take you to wherever you need to go afterwards.” Though she desperately wanted to just walk off to the nurse so that she could ease her rapidly growing headache (if this kept up it would become a migraine, and that was the last thing she wanted), Danielle stayed put, waiting for Sanjana’s decision. Only the slight shifting of her body weight gave away her eagerness to move. |

At the compliment the mousey girl murmured a thank you, her cheeks turning pink. It had been a long time since anyone had talked in a friendly manner to Sanjana. Well, it's been a long time since I could be around people at all. She told herself sheepishly, so this was a big step. A good step, but a big one, and one in the right direction. Sanja caught the sigh and Danielle's shifting, and at first thought that maybe this girl was just being nice out of propriety, and that made her hopes fall. Perhaps it was still to be a lonely existence after all- Then she heard what the dark haired girl said something about water and aspirin. That's what happens when you assume. She thought and then chanced a look back up, "D-do you have a headache?" there was genuine concern in her voice as that searching quality came back over her gaze, "Ar-are you tense at all in y-your neck?" she reached up, almost hesitantly and placed her slim fingers on the back of Danielle's neck applying slight pressure, "Th-this usually helps me." As if realizing what she was doing, Sanja pulled her hand away quickly. Her eyes were wide like she was shocked with herself for such a bold thing. "S-s-sorry," she apologized quickly, "We c-can go to the nurse...." |

Danielle nearly had to strain to hear the girl’s whispered thanks, but the quiet flush that crept across her cheeks was a tell-tale sign of embarrassment. Clearly Sanjana was not used to hearing compliments. Actually, she likely wasn’t used to any sort of human contact at all, if the way she hunched and shifted unconsciously away from the weapon was any sort of indication. Though some people could be difficult to read, this person wasn’t one of them. All of her emotions were right out there for anyone to read – which could actually be a problem, not that Danielle was in any position to point this out. They’d only just met, after all. At Sanjana’s quiet, concerned question, Danielle lifted one shoulder in a shrug. “Yeah. It’s making it hard to study, so I thought I’d go see the nurse.” It was actually a true statement. Sure, the headache was pretty bad, but it wasn’t terrible. Not yet, at least. With any luck, going to the nurse would make keep it from getting any worse. Danielle really didn’t want to nurse a migraine for the rest of the day. She had plans, after all, and even though those plans centered around writing limericks and working on her flexibility – which wasn’t bad, but there was always room for improvement – they were still plans. Besides, migraines were painful. Cool fingers placed themselves on the back of Danielle’s neck and pushed lightly, accompanied by a soft voice saying, “Th-this usually helps me.” Danielle smiled. Not such a mouse after all, are we? Before she had the chance to say anything though, Sanjana pulled away as though she’d had her hand bitten, and apologized quickly. “Don’t apologize,” Danielle said, waving it off with a flick of her hand. “Thanks for trying to help, really, but the pain’s more centered,” she explained to the slightly smaller girl. “Come one, the nurse’s office is this way.” Danielle turned halfway to start walking, then paused. She felt like kicking herself. How could she have forgotten the most important question to ask any newcomer here? It practically defined what classes they’d be taking before they were partnered, after all. “Before I forget – again – are you a weapon or a meister? I’m sorry if the question’s uncomfortable. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to,” she quickly added. Her own personal curiosity was not the most important thing here. |

The corners of Sanjana's mouth twitched like it wanted to smile, but could only just manage one corner in a crooked sort of grin, just a moment ago she had felt so alone and frightened- yes frightened- in this new place. And now this girl was talking to her, and perhaps was not just doing so to be nice, which gave Sanja a nice feeling in the pit of her stomach. She quickly moved to follow Danielle, falling into step. "I-I'm a meister, I j-just got enrolled here." She absentmindedly adjusted the strap of her arm belt before asking, "ha-have you been here long? At Shi-shibusen I mean." Okay, this is going good. She thought encouragingly, See, contact with people is a good thing! This was a commendable interaction in her mind, especially since she had spent most of her days previously just trying to get used to her new apartment with no one around. It was so big and open, and felt empty even with Sanja's belongings in it. Of course, she had put them all in a small corner of her room. Smaller spaces felt safer, less daunting. Which is probably why she had been so terrified just standing in the halls today. Without thinking, Sanja walked a little closer to Danielle. Shibusen was still quite a daunting place for a little mouse. But at least there was a new friend- and hopefully Danielle was her friend- to keep thing from getting too scary. "It.... It is q-quite big, Shibusen is...." she murmured, looking around with her wide eyes, the green orbs soaking in details with that peculiar searching quality. Edited by Hook, Jan 12 2011, 03:45 AM.

“A meister, huh?” Danielle paused a moment and resumed walking when Sanjana had fully caught up to her. “I’m a weapon.” At Sanjana’s question, Danielle actually chuckled. She quickly regretted it, though; the sound bounced around in her skull, forcing her to put a hand to the side of her head and close her eyes briefly against the pain, Once it was under control she allowed her hand to fall back down to her side and let her eyes reopen. Silently, she thanked the janitor. The light bulbs in this particular hallway had been flickering a few days before, and they’d been replaced just yesterday, a good thing for her pained head. Flickering lights were never good, but they were even worse when combined with a headache. “I’ve been here quite a while,” Danielle explained, turning from the main hallway into a slightly thinner one. The tile in this hallway was brighter than the other, and the walls bore evidence of repainting. It had been fixed fairly recently, apparently. “Over a year, actually.” The slightly smaller meister sidled closer to Danielle and stammered out her thoughts on Shibusen. “It can be a bit overwhelming,” Danielle agreed. “The first few weeks I was here, I didn’t know anyone at all and the place just felt like a giant maze. You get used to it though.” She stopped in front of a door. Wooden, it looked very, very old, showing many signs of wear and tear, but in reality had been installed only a few weeks prior. Shibusen had a habit of needing many repairs, courtesy of the many odd students that went there. “And here’s the nurse’s office.” |

The slight girl listened intently, studying Danielle. She wondered briefly if all students at Shibusen dressed casually- personally she preferred to be in her belted outfit. It gave her some semblance of courage, if any. Although, she mused, it would be nice to sometimes come to school in more comfortable and less weighted clothing. There were more questions that swirled around her head, they nearly made her dizzy. Sanjana thought to ask a few of them, but knew that Danielle had a headache. Best to ask them later. "A maze." Sanja nodded in agreement. In truth, she had been wandering around all morning in the echoing hallways, trying to find her classroom. That was another question to ask- weren't there any maps? Although she gathered that perhaps her class was done now, and had been for some time. She hoped she wouldn't get in trouble on her first day, she also hoped it wouldn't be too hard to catch up to her peers in school work. "Would you l-like me to wait ou-outside?" she asked timidly, looking up at the great door as if it might fall on her at any given moment. Hospitals and anything like them always gave Sanja the creeps. She would go in if requested, but only if requested. |

At Sanjana’s timid words, Danielle glanced at the smaller meister out of the corner of her eye. Faint fear was etched across her face, mostly noticeable in her widened eyes and slightly paler than before skin. It was clear that she was hoping that Danielle would say no and let her off the hook. With a slight grin, Danielle shook her head and took the doorknob in her right hand. “Stay out here, if you like,” she said, twisting the doorknob and pushing the door open. “Though it might be a good idea to come in. You may end up having to spend some time here later.” |
