This was something she could get used to. Without even a chance to confirm or deny her dancing "skills", the trussed-up cowgirl was pulled forcefully onto the dance floor in time with an upbeat swing-jazz. Then... well, it was a lot like what she'd seen at the town hoe-downs when she was younger. Swinging about and being flung to the edges of arms reach, then pulled back and wiggled to and fro... Frankly, it was fun. Before long, she was laughing, spinning Jayne to watch her shiny and tough little dress billow around her ankles. The brunette was smiling, pleased with herself, and the crowd parted enough to give the two some "boogie room", as her mother called it. It was, in all honesty, a genuine good time. At that moment, there was nowhere else she'd rather be. When the song died down to something slower, the Weapon breathlessly checked her equipment as her date suggested a drink, taking her hand and leading her almost gently to the refreshment table. While the cowgirl politely grabbed them both flutes from a passing tray (inside was what appeared to be sparkling cider, as there would be no wine until the end of the night), she looked over Jayne. Smiling and excited... That's fantastic! Looks like she's finally in the swing of this! Handing over the glass with a broad grin, Ellis took a sip of her own. It was sweet for her taste, but cool and refreshing after a rather energetic dance. Preferring to lean against the empty table they'd found rather than sit, she took a glance around the room to size up what was going on. It was another absent habit, but she quickly saw that there were a number of situations to avoid; that blind kid being one, as he was a pretty well-known violent time. No need for a fight to break out, after all. Her eyes scanned for his partner, finding the boy talking to another pair - the female of which looked very uncomfortable. She might have to rectify that situation before the night was done. “You asked me if firearms were to my taste?" Snapped back to attention, Ellis looked to her date (Oh my Lord, she's smiling! This is great!) and nodded eagerly, taking another sip of the cider. "Personally, I like getting right into a fight with my fists, but I don't mind them. I shot my brother in the foot once by accident though, and since then my dad decided I should learn how to handle a gun properly." The Demon-Rifle couldn't help but chuckle at that, shaking her head in amusement. She'd damn-near done the same to Paul once - fortunately, the gun had the safety on and wasn't loaded. Janye then continued, apparently encouraged by her humor. "That was with old styles though – I'm not too familiar with modern guns - though... there are some guns I wouldn't mind getting to know a little better.” Caught in mid-sip by this display of flirtation, Ellis swallowed quickly and checked Jayne's face quickly for seriousness. She was greeted with an mischievous smile (not unlike her own) - fully serious and in good humor. Taking this to be a good sign, the weapon smiled back, beaming with excitement. In all honesty, she felt a little shy; no one besides Bale had really taken a serious look at being close to her in months (and his was entirely for Meister/Weapon purposes). But it looked like things could take a good turn here. "I think tha's som'thin' we can arrange," Ellis answered, kissing the back of her date's hand once more. This time, the gesture seemed more intimate and friendly, less formal and polite. Hearing the sound of another slow song start up, she finished the glass and took a step towards the floor. "Care ta dance, Jayne? I'll lead, if ya like." Somewhere deep down, a little bit of herself deep inside her chest relaxed. She felt happy, and it was something she didn't want to go away ever again. Meanwhile, a short ways away, Miru glanced up from her sketching of the couple, grinning from ear to ear. That would make a beautiful painting, no doubt.

Jayne couldn't help feel a small warm glow of pleasure at the kiss on her hand, perhaps because she was in a good mood for once, or maybe it was just because no one had really done that kind of thing for her before. Either way she was glad to return to the dance floor, if only to hide the large foolish grin that was spread across her face. A waiter asked if she would like a top up, as Jayne had finished her drink and was carrying around the empty flute. Suddenly rather more serious Jayne gave the glass back, and advised them that the Sparkling Cider needed more soda water and less syrup, giving them a list of precise measurements for each for the optimum mix. She gave the orders in a tone that brooked no argument – it wasn't one that might be used by an overly helpful guest, nor one from a spoiled pedant who didn't like the taste – it was a blunt criticism from someone who knew what they were talking about and fully expected to be obeyed; it was Jayne's kitchen voice. With that matter out of the way Jayne's smile returned and the girl turned back to her date and allowed Ellis to lead her out onto the dance floor. The song was slow, and Jayne could sense it wasn't really a tune one could boogie to, leaving Jayne rather at sea when it came to what she should be doing. Glad that the odd lighting would help disguise any blush that may or may not be spreading up her throat, Jayne mumbled into Ellis' ear. She had to lean in very close to Ellis to be heard by the other girl, even though they had only been a foot away to begin with. “Uh... I don't really know how to… slow dance? Maybe you could show me?” Jayne was a little flustered, and anxious that Ellis would just think her stupid or strange for not knowing how to slow dance. Perhaps at best she might consider Jayne ignorant. Jayne didn't like not knowing what she was doing, because she liked a solid footing – whether that be on the rolling deck of a ship, the bloodied dirt of a battleground, or the metaphorical grounding in common social practice. Slow dancing had always seemed a little too girly for Jayne's tastes, but now she was kicking herself for not learning at least a few basic steps when she had the chance. Ellis reassured her partner that she would only have to follow and that Ellis would not move too quickly or change direction too suddenly. Jayne reluctantly agreed, getting a crash course in where to put her hands. At first Jayne held Ellis as far away as was feasible, struggling to find the rhythm. A few wrong steps here, a panic there, and soon enough the pirate girl found herself overbalanced. With a small yelp she fell towards Ellis. Thankfully between them and their handholds, the couple did not topple to the floor. Jayne rested for a moment against Ellis, regaining her bearings. She noticed, however, that she felt a lot more at ease close to the other girl, and that it was much easier to follow when she was close enough to feel which way Ellis was moving. Remaining close, Jayne was able to fall into the rhythm of the dance and keep up with her partner without nearly pulling them both over. “Sorry if this is too close” Jayne mumbled, embarrassed. She wasn't one for being touchy feely, nor for relying on other people to lead the way, and the whole slow dance made her feel a little uncomfortable, but it was a discomfit she could get used to. Ellis didn't smell at all like any of the boys Jayne had been out with before – an acrid mixture of anxious sweat and overpowering deodorant. Ellis smelled more like leather and hay, with a sweet, subtle overtone of a feminine perfume, and a hint of horse. It was a pleasant mixture and Jayne closed her eyes, feeling more relaxed now that she could enjoy the dance. It was something she would no doubt remember fondly well into her old age. “I've... never had a date with a woman before.” The weapon finally admitted. It was probably clear enough to Ellis, but Jayne felt like it was something she needed to clear up. Hurriedly she added, “but! It's much better than any of the other dates I've been on... I mean, I'm enjoying it a lot. I mean – I uh... fuck, shit, horse-piss. You didn't hear that okay because the music was too loud.” Jayne buried her face in Ellis' shoulder to hide her embarrassment. Luckily at that moment there came an announcement via the microphone that cut in over the music. The movie was to start in 15 minutes, and it was advised that students start making their way to the amphitheatre to find seats. Edited by Imp of Chaos, Jan 13 2011, 01:50 AM.

The blind man's voice seemed to have struck a chord with Felix as he let out a very effeminate yelp. Sivan couldn't help but laugh at what he did and he tried to calm himself down before he had to talk again, but what had occured was humorous to bring a tear to his eye. It's always a joy to see the person acting tough and aloof let out a girly or wimpy scream at something so minuscule as a blind man screaming about being blind. When Felix went to answer Sivan's question, he made sure to make the notion that Sivan shouldn't even think about touching him by the tough shove that he had given to the hand Sivan just placed on Felix's shoulder. Felix seemed to have a permanent scowl on his face as he spoke. If this was him trying to be nice, surely something must be wrong with his social skills. Of course Sivan isn't one to speak when his way is too friendly. "You hate you partner? Unlike Hitomi who had chosen to stay quiet and then talk a bit about herself, Sivan decided to first comment on what Felix had said. "Dude... That sounds horrible, why would you hate your life partner? Sivan was quite awestruck by this. He knowledge of Shibusen was quite limited in that all he really knew was that weapons were partnered with meisters and that the partnership is stricter than being wed or something. You'd have to put up with you partner no matter what. Of course before Sivan even let Felix give a response, he had moved on to note what Hitomi said. Even if he didn't let others talk when he decided it was his turn to speak, he at the very least would listen to what a person said when they finally spoke. "Fan meister? You work with fans? How can you fight with a fan? Do you bring a portable generator to turn it on and blast people away or does the fan produce it's own electricity. Sivan truly believed it was an electric fan that Hitomi fought with and before she could even get the chance to speak and correct his odd assumptions, an announcement was made about the movie starting in 15 minutes and for everyone to get to their seats which brought a smile to Sivan's face as his hand went to grab Hitomi's hand first ignoring all rules of personal space yet again. "Let's go get our seats!" Sivan was in a cheerful mood. Today was quite enjoyable in that even though he had to wear fancy clothes (which he liked doing), he could still enjoy himself like a normal person without being stuck up and snooty. Sivan walked towards a few empty seats as he attempted to drag the unwilling Hitomi. |

"To be honest no. Nothing interesting at all about me. I'm a fan meister, but my weapon seems to have gone missing." Felix was curious at that answer. Did she really not like herself that much to call herself uninteresting? He thought it was true, but nonetheless, had she ever heard of self-confidence? "Heh. I wish I could go missing. Get away from that crazy bit-" "You hate you partner? Dude... That sounds horrible, why would you hate your life partner?" His eye twitched at being interrupted again, but he answered. "Well, it's because SHE-" Felix started to answer, the pure hatred oozing off of him in a evil, purply aura. He straight out growled like a bear woken from hibernation as Sivan interrupted AGAIN. He was going to punch him if he did it again. "Fan meister? You work with fans? How can you fight with a fan? Do you bring a portable generator to turn it on and blast people away or does the fan produce it's own electricity?" "Oh SHUT UP already man. I doubt that weapon is electric. Who THE HELL wields an electric fan against a kishin egg?" Felix asked Sivan angrily. He was tired of these people. Dead tired. They not only irritated him but were borderline boring. Suddenly someone was yelling into the microphone - or speakers? Felix didn't care to notice - about movies or something. He groaned. The movies always sucked. They always made them cheesy and G-rated because of some of the younger idiot prodigies attending. He didn't follow Sivan as he started to drag Hitomi away. "Well, I'd just HATE to be a third wheel. Sooo I'll be on my way now. Idiots." He said it as obviously sarcastic as he could. He started to stomp away, not caring what the others thought of it. He briefly wondered if he would end up watching the movie anyway. He doubted.

Hitomi couldn't help but giggle even though she had tried to hold it back. For Sivan to think that she swung around an electric fan as a weapon was just ridiculous. It would be pretty difficult to fight with such a weapon, even with a really long extension chord. It would be quite amusing to watch someone attempt to vanquish a kishin egg with an electric fan, one with the blades in the cage that had three settings. Except the settings on this fan would be bruise, maim, and kill. Of course while she found it funny, Felix disagreed and made sure that he thought Sivan was an idiot. "I think maybe you're the one who needs to shut up! There's no reason to be rude, so just chill out already. There's no need to be so pissy which is all you've been the whole time I've been here!" Hitomi said in a sharp tone as she crossed her arms. Felix had no right to talk to anyone like that. She didn't care what sort of anger problems he had. He needed to learn how to deal with them without taking it out on other people. Better yet he needed to learn how to voice these things without trying to start something. All he was doing was ticking her off and he probably knew it too. Suddenly, a voice came overhead announcing that the movie was going to begin soon. It was going to be some cheesy kid movie, but Hitomi didn't mind. She hadn't, afterall, gone to see the movie. She had attended to see if maybe she could make a new friend. She seemed to have lucked out there. Either way she hadn't actually played on staying and watching the movie, but before she knew it Sivan was dragging her off to sit and the jerk Felix was saying how he didn't want to be a third wheel and storming off. What a brat he was, acting like a two year old. She was glad he was leaving, but at the same time she wished that he hadn't. Now she was going to be sitting next to Sivan in a dark room watching some video. She couldn't help but be frightened about what he might try to do. Perhaps being a seamstress was just his cover so he could touch girls, but somehow she doubted that was the case. "Er. . . . .soo . . . " Hitomi said akwardly as she sat down next to Sivan. She kept herself to the far side of her seat, away from Sivan. It would probably look weird, but she wasn't too keen on sitting next to him. |

Hitomi's voice came out softly as she seemed to be sitting awkwardly on the chair. Her distance from Sivan was noticeable as it appeared as if though half her bottom was about to fall off the chair. Was she trying to relay a message about the how the chair was horrendous and she wished to switch seats. Sivan thought so as he talked to her. " Something wrong? Is it the chair?" Sivan smiled as he place one of his arms on her thighs. Of course Hitomi would naturally get flustered especially when it's Sivan. This definitely cause her to gain a more negative view of him. She pushed his hand away as she tried to speak about personal space, but before she could, Sivan took the reaction as acknowledgement that the chair was actually quite uncomfortable. "Here have my chair than! Sivan stood up as he grabbed her hand to lead her to his seat. "I don't mind having the uncomfortable chair. Isn't that what the man does anyways?" Sivan smiled as he then took her seat. It didn't feel any more uncomfortable but it could be perhaps that it was just a woman thing. Sivan would never understand woman and their issues with chairm but at the very least he felt good to help her with her situation. After he settled down in the new chair, he leaned over to Hitomi and whispered. "So is the movie good or what, whaat kind of movies are shown in shibusen?" Sivan asked with curiosity. His child like face holding eyes full of wonder as he stared into Hitomi's eyes. A childish smile was on his face as he asked and it would seem that he had the exact appearance of the target audience for this movie; a twelve year old child. |

"No. Nothing's wrong with the-" Hitomi tried to say, but that was before Sivan placed a hand on her thigh. He was touching her. Again. Face turning red she calmly removed his hand. Never, before she had met Sivan, had she been touched like that and she missed that time. Now, she knew Sivan though and he was a touchy feely kind of person, or so it seemed. She did not like being touched at all. An occasional hug was okay with close friends, but nothing more than that. She actually hadn't hugged anyone since moving to Death City. "Please respect my personal space. I really don't like being-" Hitomi was cut off by something else Sivan had to say. It seemed he always did have something to say. Of all things though, it was just him being oblivious to what she had said. He hadn't heard a single thing she had said! Her eyebrows furrowed. She was disappointed when she discovered this. She didn't have time to stop him though as he grabbed her hand and swapped seats with her. Sighing, she thought it was useless to try and correct him. It wouldn't have done her any good anyways. "It's going to be some cheesy kids movie. They always are," Hitomi said, not looking at Sivan as he stared at her. A frown occupied his face. She didn't like the idea of not being listened to. She had lost a little bit of the small amount of respect she did just so happen to have for him. |

Ellis chuckled at Jayne's sudden display of ruthless and direct criticism of the drink being served at the event as they paused at the edge of the dance floor, waiting calmly until the authoritative tirade was done. Once the brunette turned back to her, she inclined her head slightly in a modest bow of acquiescence and led the smiling Weapon to the floor. When she stopped and took Jayne's left hand in her right, the other girl seemed shy and embarrassed once again. She muttered something that Ellis couldn't make out, but she leaned closer as the corsair spoke a little louder to be heard by the cowgirl. “Uh... I don't really know how to… slow dance? Maybe you could show me?” Smiling warmly, the costumed girl took her date's hands with exceptional care, placing one at her shoulder and the other cupped gently in her hand. Firmly but without wandering, she rested her own left hand on Jayne's hip. "Just like tha', y'see?" she asked softly. "Then, i's jus' a four-step - one, two, three, four... Nice an' easy, yeah?" She led her partner through the dance steps patiently and with great care; her father had taught her ballroom dancing, and it came back naturally as the simple steps of the waltz ticked through her mind in time with the music. Still, it seemed that she wasn't paying enough attention as Jayne stumbled and would have fallen had Ellis not directed her step to intercept the off-balance female. She staggered herself for a moment but caught her footing before sliding, easing the both of them back to standing carefully. After a moment of pause, she noticed that her date seemed content to rest against her shoulder for a moment, and she found it was just fine by her as well. Patiently (despite a now very apparently racing heart-rate), she held the other woman until she stood straighter of her own accord, now closer than she had been. "Sorry if this is too close." With a roguish smile, Ellis bent her head to mutter in her ear. "Not a'tall, Jayne. Ready to try ag'in?" Taking the silent affirmation, Ellis counted beats and started the dance again, leading the way with a slightly more confident Jayne following. Once the basic steps had been established, the two fell into a rhythm, relaxing with the flow of the music. "I've... never had a date with a woman before." Ellis chuckled, a sound of acknowledgment that came from deep in her throat. Before she could answer, Jayne hurriedly continued. "But! It's much better than any of the other dates I've been on... I mean, I'm enjoying it a lot. I mean – I uh..." A string of curses suddenly gave way to silence and blue mist, and the pirate turned slightly redder as a reaction. "You didn't hear that okay because the music was too loud.” "Don' worry none 'bout tha'," she answered calmly, twirling her partner once before the song came to a steady end. "I have no qualm with a woman tha' speaks her mind, even if i's in th' gutter." Her smile was ready and daring, and the announcement overhead refused to bother her. She only carefully led her partner to a pair of seats, allowing Jayne the one by the center aisle in case she needed to get up for any reason. As she herself was about to sit, however, she heard a bit of commotion from another couple rows away. It appeared to be the couple she'd noted earlier; the girl was precariously perched on the edge of her chair until her date(?) seemed to notice and swap seats with her. From the tones they shared, she was mighty irked and he had no bloody clue at all. He kept interrupting her, and Ellis' scowl hardened at the utterly exasperated and defeated slump the girl gained at this. Debating the moral dilemma of either ignoring the distressed damsel and leaving Jayne's side to aid another woman, she found she couldn't win. With an irritated sigh, she looked to her lovely companion, an expression of warring resignation and annoyance on her face. "Jus' a bit, darlin'. Gonna take care of a bit o' business afore th' show. Wait for me?" She touched the other Weapon's shoulder tenderly, then walked down the aisle to the distressed brunette. Placing her hand on the lady's shoulder gently, she gave her a stern yet caring look. "Lass, is this fella botherin' ya?" Her voice had deepened slightly in its authoritative tone, and she cast a wary and warning glance at the oblivious boy before returning her gaze neutrally to the younger girl before her.

Hastily backpedaling, Ashton watched his plan unfold right before him. Complete success, and the results were magnificent. His father hadn't seen the blind boy and so smacked him forward into a faceful of punch, drenching the poor sap as well as himself. As he continued to watch, however, it seemed to be going almost too perfectly. Will began to wail about going blind, which struck Ashton as odd until he realized the boy was joking. It was as if the blind kid had read his mind. He flung himself onto Shen, who for once looked completely bewildered. Will kept up his theatrics for long enough that Ashton was able to back off, blending into a gathering ring of people who were watching the scene eagerly. As for Shen, he had definitely been caught off guard by the sudden impact against his arm, and even more so being covered in punch. He certainly hadn't expected some kid to claim he had blinded them. He had been completely fooled for a minute, there-- that was, until Will began going off on some tangent about how he wanted his... dog to go to the moon or something. Shen noticed as well a perfectly undamaged pair of blind eyes belonging to the boy, and made his conclusions quickly. As Will continued with his theatrics, Shen played along, welling up with crocodile tears and patting Will heavily on the back. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Ashton just moving out of view, slipping into the crowd. A dark, smug expression flashed across his face. Well played, kid. Well played. Having effectively gotten rid of his father, at least for the night, Ashton searched out Jenna. When he had successfully located her, he flopped down on a nearby chair and tilted his head back. He took a deep breath and looked forward normally. "Well, that went alright," He said, a bit aimlessly. He halfheartedly grinned at the meister. Though Ashton was certain that his father would leave him in peace for the remainder of the night, he was sure that the man would have something much worse in store for him next time they had an encounter. He didn't say this to Jenna, though, as she appeared to have gotten along with Shen. Just as well, she didn't seem to care all that much anyway. He sat forward in the chair. This night was probably going to be a little awkward from here on. Jenna wasn't really his date, his father's assumptions be damned. And Ashton had never attended one of these events solo before. He looked around the ballroom, all the sharp-looking pairs, and sighed slightly. Well, at least midnight wasn't too far off. Funny how time had already flown by. Ashton shrugged a bit to himself, then looked back at Jenna. "Want to get some more food?" He suggested lamely. |

It was only when Shen started patting Will heavily on the back (perhaps a little too heavily for comfort) that the blind boy realised the jig was up. On the fourth or fifth slap Will sniffled, obnoxiously wiping his nose on Shen's shirt with the sound of water draining down a plug hole, and reluctantly released whoever it was. “Wait I just remembered – I was always blind! LONG WINDED BLIND JOKE! I feel much better now – apart from being wet and sticky of course.” Will patted at his now ruined dress clothes, feeling them stick unpleasantly to his body before peeling away under the weight of gravity. How unseemly. With a frown Will removed his tailed jacket, and then his vest, handing them to Shen to hold (as the the man had rather unwisely stuck around rather than fleeing when he had the chance). The next item of clothing Will removed was his shirt, and with it his tie, revealing a somewhat unimpressive, scrawny chest with wiry muscles. His skin was as white as paper, making it clear that Will didn't often catch a lot of sunlight and heightening the sense of fragility. Whatever he looked like, however, or for the impropriety of his state of dress, Will showed little concern. With his soul perception on he could sense Shen slowly inching away from him, and grabbed the man by his arm. “Well you tipped me in the drink! Now I am all horrible and wet – although it's not your fault I'm horrible; I was just born that way. The least you could do would be to help a poor, fragile, blind boy around for the rest of the night, amIright? – first things first though, take the flask from my jacket pocket and apply the contents to the punch – the champagne doesn't come out 'till midnight, you know?” After forcing himself on Shen, the two seemed to get along relatively well (at least that is what Will was claiming and no one else was stupid enough to try and take Will off Shen's hands). Will explained patiently that as a blind person he was allowed to go anywhere and do anything that he liked, and proceeded to prove this to Shen by muscling them both into the kitchens. As soon as the kitchen staff realised Will was blind and that Shen was his 'seeing eye guide, thing' (as Will explained it) they were unable to tactfully remove the half clothed teen from the kitchens. Will told how his shirt had become soaked in punch to one of the caterers, and swiftly he was lent a double breasted chef shirt as a replacement – more because half naked teens were not good to have in food preparation areas than from any sense of sympathy. From the kitchen Shen and Will were free to sample any of the foods that were being sent out to the students while they were still hot and fresh, and Will had no qualms about taking great handfuls of the foods that he liked, leaving whole serving platers in shambles. “mmmfff iiff good fftuff” mumbled the teen vigorously, through a mouthful of three spring rolls. Shen was similarly burdened with a mouthful of dumplings, and the two sat on tall chairs in the middle of the bustling kitchens. Chefs were forced to walk around them and the music of the party was dimmed. Shen seemed to be quiet and thoughtful. “So you can get anywhere eh?” He asked slowly, after swallowing his food. Will considered this question carefully, feeling as though the other man was cooking up some kind of plan. Sitting back, the blind boy grinned widely, “Yeah pretty much.” Shen mirrored Will's wicked grin. He gestured for Will to follow him, before remembering that his newest partner in crime was blind. As they left the kitchen, Shen discretely picked up one of the unopened champagne bottles, taking it with him. It was only half an hour until midnight and they had quite a way to go. In the auditorium a short movie was being played. It was a silent film about a man trying to woo a lady and being upstaged by a more muscular man, which Will would no doubt have enjoyed greatly, had he been able to appreciate the content. In any case he wasn't in the auditorium – he was wandering across the school with Shen, chatting about this and that. Shen gave him a few great tips and bits of advice, both about theatrics, and pranks. Will listened more carefully to what Shen had to say than he had listened to anyone since Moriarty, carefully committing each bit of advice to memory. Eventually they reached a large and familiar door – it was Shinigami's room. Boldly, Shen and Will walked up the corridor of guillotines. The first person they met was Spirit, who was easily deflected with the bottle of champagne and advice that there was a woman waiting for him out on a nearby balcony. Upon reaching Shinigami's room, the two were greeted by Sid, Stein, Marie, and Shinigami himself. These few teachers had decided to have a small, private new years party together. Although Will could not see it – Shinigami was slightly flushed, having had drunk too much by that time. Stein had on a paper hat and was unenthusiastically flopped over the back of his swivel chair. Marie and Sid were singing. By that time it was nearly midnight – nearly time for Shinigami to appear in the mirrors that had been placed all around the party, and give his 'good luck in the new year' speech. After a quick conversation and a heart tugging story, Will and Shen were allowed to stay in Shinigami's room. Whether it was due to the carefully woven untruths, Shinigami's drunkenness, or Will's blindness, Shen's request was granted. |
