It was nothing but another day at lunch. Hitomi and M were sitting against the wall per usual. Most of the time it was just them sitting there chatting and eating. Every now and then someone would come and talk to them for a little while before heading off. Nobody ever stayed and ate with them. Hitomi didn't mind though. She kinda prefered being alone with her weapon. It left them time to make their bond grow stronger. They had to catch up with some of the kids who had been there since they were thirteen. It was such a young age to start fighting against evil, but to become the best sometimes early training was necessary. Besides, her mom had started teaching her karate when she was only seven. She was unlike any other seven year old student that she had seen in a regular class. They were all falling over eachother and laughing like idiots. It was obvious they didn't respect their sensei and they didn't actually try. Hitomi, on the other hand, had her hero to teach her. The woman she loved the most giving her lessons on how to defend herself. It was all fun because at random times her mom would come in saying a random move for her to do.

Clicking back to reality, Hitomi looked at M as she took a bite of her sandwhich. They hadn't spoken a word all lunch period. It was somewhat odd. She doubted that M was upset with her, but it was possible. Either way, if they just sat there in silence things would either become more akward, or whatever she was mad at her for would never be fixed. She took another bite of her sandwhich before speaking.

"Hey, what did you think of class today?" A simple conversation starter surely would get them back to normal before soon, well if anything was wrong at all. This way Hitomi could find out if anything was wrong in an unsuspicious way. She wouldn't want her partner to think that she was nosy or anything because normally she wasn't. At the same time, if anything was wrong then why wouldn't she just come out and say it. She would do just that if she trusted her, right?

((M gets first post!))

M flinched slightly as Hitomi spoke to her. She'd been caught up in some silly day dream that she forgot it was lunchtime. Or the fact that she was eating. Looking at her partner for a few minutes, she tried to analize the question she was asked, trying to sift through her clouded mind for an answer. When none came she stuffed a couple more fries in her mouth and finally the whole container before almost choking on them when she finally got what her partner was asking.

"Peeshy, Relly. Waff about yew? Waff din yew fink?" M said through her mouthful fries which was supposed to be, "Peachy, Really. What about you? What did you think?" and watched her partner as she tried to mow through her fries like a cow eating cud.

It took Hitomi only a moment to decipher the words her partner had said through a full mouth. It was only expected that the question be returned. Of course she hadn't thought that part through. She had be hoping for some detailed speech about M's feelings on the class, but of course that would have been very out of character for her partner. Now, she was obliged to respond to a question that she wasn't even sure what her answer was.

Hitomi layed her sandwich down on the plastic baggy it had come in and rested her left hand on her face, in particular on her tatooed diamond. Her hand always came to that specific spot as if her mother would help her focus more than usual. Sometimes it would work, but most of the time it wouldn't. Either way it was worth a shot to try every time.

She shrugged before giving her partner an answer with her words, "Well it wasn't out of the ordinary I suppose. I should study more though. . ." Hitomi let her words lead out as if she had more to say, but she didn't. Now she was out of ideas. She was afraid their conversation would stay dead for the rest of lunch. It would be another one of those akward days were they sat there in silence surrounded by a whole bunch of loud mouths.

M tilted her head side to side a few times, finishing her fries before cracking a smile. "Same. I should study. I think I'm failing." M knew that would get on her partners nerves. Even though M was a smart person and could probably skip a few grades if she wanted to, she also wanted to stay behind with her partner, thus she kept the regular dumb student facade on despite it all. She had an unatural curiosity for most everything so school became a problem when learning new things.

She stayed silent for a few moments, listening to the chatter around them before glaring at the people who were being too loud and mumbled, "I'm sure a good kick in the freakin' rear-end would shut them up" It was the popular kids that irritated M the most because of the way they looked down at her and Hitomi. That was always one of M's pet peeves and it usually ignited her fuse the most, too, if not the pure stupidity of some people. Though, she could be forgiving and calm herself by saying things such as, "Ok, ok, let's not be judgemental...it's just who they are." Or other things so she wouldn't burst out screeching. Also Hitomi's kind nature had a positive effect on M's short temper and it calmed her down a lot.

Then she looked at her meister, having remembered that she touched the diamond on her cheek again. She knew it was a habit of Hitomi's but didn't really know why that much.

At the words 'I think I'm failing', Hitomi dropped her hand to her side suddenly and turned to stare at her partner. She was definetly one of the smarter kids around and she was failing! What was up with that? Either way now she was going to be sure the two of them studied at night. Even if she had to march her butt over to her house in the middle of the night she would do it. Failing was just a no. There hadn't been once where Hitomi came close to failing. She wouldn't let herself fall that far. It would be crossing the line.

"Well I know what we're both doing all night," Hitomi said in a sing-songy voice. She was indicating that they would both be studying all night. She didn't care if she had to strap her partner to a chair and force the information down her throat. That was what they would be doing.

When M murmered something to herself, Hitomi couldn't help but smirk. No matter how she would enjoy watching that happen, it would be wrong. "Now now M," she chuckled a bit when she spoke. Sure those kids could be annoying, but you were who you were. It's not like you could help it.

M grinned wider and turned back as her partner dropped her hand, turning toward her. M knew she caught Hitomi's attention with the simple word 'failing' but her grin turned into a scowl upon hearing that they'd be studying all night. Maybe she could get by with reciting every word from the last few chapters in each class or something. If that was possible. Something. Anything but staying up all night studying. It was bad enough she suffered from insomnia, not getting any sleep for something as insignificant as school was unacceptable.

"NO. Just...no. I could tutor you. I don't need help studying. Watch. I'll ace the next quiz or test. I'm not staying up all night." M flailed her arms. Maybe her attempts were futile but she sighed and decided she'd raise her grades a little before letting them get low again.

Laughing at M's reaction, Hitomi shook her head. Sometimes her partner could be so gullible. Of course she hadn't meant literally all night! That would be ridiculous. Besides, a good night's sleep was needed to do well in school. Without sleep you'd be too tired to take proper notes during class and the result of that would be your grades slipping.

"You're so funny sometimes. You honestly thought I would make us stay up all night? I need to sleep sometimes." Hitomi pushed her friend playfully as she rolled her eyes. "Oh!" she piped up, "Don't even think about letting them drop again. I know what you're capable of!" She winked at M before taking another bite of her sandwich.

Soon after Hitomi finished off her lunch and felt well nourished. Even if it wasn't the healthiest lunch, it was healthier then the excuse for food that the school served. You would think they would at least be sure that their food was edible and not made of cardboard.

"OH SCREW YOU." M's jaw dropped. She wasn't angry but she hated how Hitomi could keep a straight face like that when she was teasing. "I might be capable but I don't wanna apply myself." She stretched languidly and got up to throw her trash away. "Now what? I'm bored. Maybe go to the courtyard?" M looked at Hitomi but frowned and walked around a little. Her legs were starting to get pins and needles from not moving them. Even though she got some irritated glances, she shuffled around back and forth, pacing almost.

All Hitomi could do at M's last comment was smile and chuckle. It was funny how fast her partner could get angry. It was almost like BOOM she was mad at someone. Her temper had improved from the first time they met, but it still had awhile to go before it was under her control. Slowly it was getting better, but only slightly every now and then. It was still pretty bad. People had to be careful so they didn't get their heads bitten off by her when she was raging.

When M stood to throw her trash away, Hitomi reached out to try and get her to take her trash aswell. Obviously it failed and she ended up getting up and following her to the trash can to throw her own stuff away. Once that was done she cracked her neck, it was getting stiff. She tried to wiggle her toes in her converse, which wasn't exactly sucessful.

"Hm the courtyard? Sure sounds good by me," Hitomi shrugged as she began to lead the way out. Some fresh air would be nice on such a day. It was pretty cold, but it was kinda stuffy in the cafeteria. Besides more than likely there would be less people outside and it would be quieter than inside. She would actually be able to hear herself think for a little while.

As the two reached the courtyard, Hitomi began to lead the way by just randomly walking around. There was no particular destination in mind and there didn't need to be. She shoved her hands in her pocket as she let her body lean backwards a bit so she wasn't standing up straight. Then she let all the air she was holding in out so she could see her breath.

"Pretty nice day. For studying ya think you might wanna do it outside?" Hitomi asked as she looked at M.

"Pretty nice day. For studying ya think you might wanna do it outside?" Hitomi's fatal words stopped M in her tracks.
"S-sorry! My legs bother me!" M yelled very loudly and started sprinting around the courtyard. It was true. But not the entire reason she was running around. If anything, she might be able to outrun and avoid Hitomi's need to study. M really just wanted school to be over and to get home so she could laze around on YouTube or Fanfiction. Something on the computer. Or she could load her virtual machine with viruses just for the fun of it. That was always amusing...

M snapped back to reality once she ran her second lap and noticed she was about to hit a wall "SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!" She cursed like a sailor and narrowly avoided running into the hard brick or whatever the side was made of and kept running. "WHAT NOW--OH CRAP..." M skidded to a halt before running into Lord Death's son, Death the Kid. When he turned around, feeling her presence, M waved and said hello before running like a bat out of hell back to Hitomi, embarrased. The last thing she wanted to do was get yelled at or something of the sort for crash-landing into someone. Whether the guy would complain that she didn't hit him right in the center, or that she ran into him at all was something she'd rather avoid.

"I'll stick to stretching..." M sat down and stared at the sky, kicking her legs.
