Lucy knelt over the fallen boy, getting busy with her lipstick. At first Sockface thought she might just be writing something on his head as a mark of defeat such as ‘prat’, but getting closer he noticed that it looked more intricate than that. Taking liberties with the generosity Lucy had shown so far, the living doll climbed up onto the girl’s shoulders for a better look. The pattern that she was inscribing drawing was fascinating. Some of the symbols looked Egyptian, but they had no meaning for the weapon, as he’d only ever studied what he’d been told to study, precisely when he was told to study it. As a student he’d been more interested in what he could do with his free time than with structured learning. It seemed to be an attack of some kind, or it had a very severe ritualistic air to it, that in Sockface’s opinion telegraphed an attack, but then he could be a touch paranoid at times. It didn’t help that you could hear the cold anger lacing the girl’s speech. Perhaps she wasn’t as unaffected as he had thought. Sockface considered asking her what she was doing, to make sure it wasn’t anything too lethal but something inside him was powerfully curious about the technique about to be shown to him.

Sadly the chance to see Lucy’s power slipped away, or rather, limped away supported by a friend. Feeling a mixture of disappointed and relieved that there was no bloodshed, the living doll turned his attention back to Lucy herself.

”Well, that was a waste of time... I have to say though, damn nice move! I figured you’d have a trick or two up your sleeve but I didn’t see that one coming”

The living doll shifted, slightly uncomfortable with praise. His family had been heavy on the criticism, but with the attitude that it was helping each other to get better, and that praise wasn’t necessary. Where there was no criticism there was assumed praise. Sockface had yet to remember that other people used praise as an indicator of where someone had done something particularly well. He mentally kicked himself for not remembering sooner.

‘Aye, thankyou. You seem to know yer way around an encounter, ye must be handy te have aboot in a proper battle.’

Which wasn’t direct but was the highest praise that the living doll usually gave out – the last person who had earned such a comment was his (very) late meister, Mac Wild. Sockface leaned forward slightly so he could look at Lucy’s face as he spoke and she didn’t have to crane her neck. He didn’t know why he kept the habit of looking people in the eye, seeing as he didn’t have to worry about his voice projection, but it had been ingrained in him, and so he still did it.

‘Ah wouldnae call et a waste of time thoo. No doubt that boy will learn a thing er two aboot nowt undeh-estimatin’ his foes. Et’s a shame aye dinnae get teh see the conclusion of the er... mystical type circle ye were drawin. Looked mighty powerful, so it did.’

The hessian weapon stumbled over what to call the thing that had been drawn per se, but didn’t mean any harm by calling it a mystical circle. He didn’t add explicitly that he’d be interested to see a demonstration, but felt it was implied within his speech. Sockface often seemed to forget other people couldn’t read his mind. Outside of a mission, the encounter he’d had with Lucy was the longest he had spent (wilfully) around another person. Lucy was tolerable. She wasn’t an idiot, she didn’t spout rubbish for the sake of filling the air with words, and she had a calm collected approach to tough situations. The living doll felt somewhat guilty about his first appraisal of her based solely on the fact that her hair was pink, and her ‘gothic style’ fashion sense. Suddenly he remembered what he had been about to ask before they had been interrupted.

‘Do yeh attend Shibusen? Ye seem bright enou’ fer it... in moor than one sense of the ward.’

”I am –quite- bright actually“ Lucy stated, humility never having been one of her virtues. In fact, many a thing that were less than positive could be said about the girl, but she did have a few redeeming qualities. Not many perhaps, but still enough to make her a decent friend to anyone tough enough to stand her attitude. That and, well, she enjoyed intelligent company, something Sockface appeared to be. He was also fascinating and resourceful, qualities Lucy appreciated very much and to top it off, he wasn’t the loud nosy annoying type. It was after all enough with one in the room at the time, and the pink headed girl had already claimed that spot, consciously or not.

”Though to answer your question“ she said after a few moments, turning on her heel and walking back to the window where she picked up the book previously placed there. ”Yes, I’m a student though I only started about a week ago“ Lucy said, tucking the book under her arm as she casually continued the stroll down the corridor with Sockface still on her shoulder. It was as if it was the most natural thing in the world to have a living, perhaps not breathing but still, living rag doll on her shoulder, a more relaxed smile once again having returned to her lips and any trace of anger temporarily gone. At least that was the upside to her temper, once the eruption was over, it calmed down again relatively quickly (until the next one hit, if nothing else).
”I’ve been enrolled as a meister“ she continued, turning her head slightly to smile at him. ”And as far as I can tell, your ability to shape change marks you as a weapon, right?“

She eyed the creature for a moment then turned her gaze ahead once more, as they rounded a corner in the corridor.
Lucy was still new to the place, still new to the world which she’d chosen to enter by breaking with her family’s wishes. Though even so, she knew a great deal more about it than most did first time they set foot in the school due to the countless hours spent researching the subject and anything even closely related to it.

Moving her hands behind her back, holding the book with both ,Lucy continued the walk with a light step, appearing quite pleased now even if her day hadn’t quite started out as she’d wanted it to.
”The circles are a focusing point“ the girl said after a moment or two as if suddenly switching back to his comment about her drawing. ”Maybe I can show you sometime, if you want to, that is.“

A meister! As always, Sockface immediately began to wonder how they’d work as a team. It was a habit he’d picked up as a weapon, due to the fact that he occasionally formed temporary partnerships. When he had been a meister himself, he had kept the habit, so that whenever he heard someone announce themselves as a meister, he would start wondering how they would work together, before remembering with a jolt that he wasn’t a weapon anymore. Now, he went through a strange series of mental highs and lows, first was the familiar thrill of wondering how Lucy would work as a partner, then the jolt as he remembered he was no longer a weapon, and then the slow cautious happiness when he remembered he was a weapon again.

If Lucy had only been a meister for a week, the odds were she hadn’t teamed up with anyone yet. In Sockface’s experience the meister was the one who asked the weapon. He’d been terrible at it as a meister, and as such had never gained a partner. Now Sockface was seeing Lucy in a new light, a more critical one. Would she make a good partner? She seemed intelligent, straight forward, and confident in herself. These were all plusses, in Sockface’s mind. She didn’t seem to mind him as he was either, which was strange. Most people assumed he was a midget with poor dress sense or a lack of money for clothing, and if they found out the truth they became cautious about not staring at him for too long as though he had a physical disfiguration. Lucy hadn’t done either of these things. Sockface was so deep in thought he missed the next few words from Lucy, but quickly got back to the topic at hand,

”The circles are a focusing point. Maybe I can show you sometime, if you want to, that is.“

Sockface remained quiet for a moment or two. He loved seeing demonstrations of techniques, and he was always curious to learn about new and interesting powers. He got a lot of chances for this as there was such a wide variety at Shibusen, and Kishin-eggs themselves often had interesting abilities. Not only that, but he now had a special interest in seeing what Lucy could do.

‘That’d be fahntastic! I’m curious as teh what yeh cen do with them... Boot don’ spoil the surprise! Ah’d rather see than hear.’

Now that his mind was on the idea of Lucy as a meister he couldn’t shake it. In a way she reminded him a little of Mac, head strong, confident, and the kind that didn’t take nonsense when they didn’t have to. Not only that but she was rather flamboyantly dressed (admittedly not as much as Mac, but then there were very few people who could match his former partner in that arena). Mac, however, had been more lively, less serious, and not the sharpest tool in the shed. As Lucy walked down the hall toward a door that would take them out into the grounds beyond the building, Sockface began a sort of prodding questioning. Although he tried not to be too insistent, it wasn’t entirely subtle.

‘soo, just in eh? Do ye know any martial arts? Ye seemed to know a bloof when yeh saw un. Have ye had experience weth fightin’?’

Sorry about the late reply, life intruded without warning. I hope you don’t mind too much.

Lucy chuckled, rolling the piece of gum around with her tongue now and then and blowing the occasional bubble even while mid sentence. It was a bit of a bad habit, but one she continued none the less as she would constantly work with focusing her energy that way. She had talent, of that she was certain, but due to never having had any formal training on the matter, she'd had to find her own ways around the problems she might encounter.

”I know how a fight works” she said in reply to Sockface’ question. ”Though close combat isn’t my strongest point. I prefer using brains over brawns, but that’s not to say I don’t know the value of a well placed heel” the pink haired girl added with a grin as she turned her head slightly and flashed a set of pearly whites at Sockface, who was still safely perched on her shoulder.
”I think it’s important to know a little of every aspect though. All too many neglect one to pursue another which leaves them lacking in certain fields” she pushed the door open and stepped outside. ”I don’t intend to fall into the same trap”

Once outside, Lucy stopped for a moment, taking a deep breath as she let her gaze move slowly across her surroundings. Shibusen was a truly impressive place, even if the architect must’ve been smoking socks at the time of its construction, the outside grounds no less impressive than the inside, though perhaps a bit more quiet seeing as most of the students were scurrying back and forth between classes at the time being.

”I intend to surpass my family’s legacy in every possible way” the girl stated, tapping the book against her wrists as she still held it behind her back. ”I am going to be the strongest meister the Fehrer’s ever spawned” she added, obviously not being the one to have trouble aiming for the stars. Though Lucy had always aimed high and far, never settling for good when she could be extraordinary.

The girl skipped down the stairs with a light step, popping another bubble gum bubble before stopping as she reached the final step.
”But in order to do so, I’d need a weapon, wouldn’t I? No meister is worth his title without that”
She traced her foot across the ground almost as if testing it before taking another step, strolling along the paved path that twisted its way along the ground like a snake through grass. ”What about you? I reckon a heavy weapon such as yourself must have a strong meister”

((ooc: no worries at all ^^ besides, come weekend I usually don't get much online time anyways so then I might be the one to reply late))

‘Fehrer...’

Sockface’s stitches pulled together slightly as he tried to remember why the name sounded familiar, but gave up in the end. There had been no famous meister spawn in his year level when he was a normal teen, so he wouldn’t have recognised the name from a bar of soap. A few people in older grades, however, had been serious meisters from serious meister families. Sockface hadn’t known them personally but he had heard one had run away from Shibusen, unable to take the strain of the expectations of excellence. Clearly this wasn’t an issue with Lucy. She must be from one of those hard core, hereditary meister families, to go by what the girl said.

Said meister was heading somewhere, wherever it was it seemed as though she was familiar with the route. Slowly, from the perspective of the sitting weapons, the scenery of Shibusen passed by. Sockface had seen it all before, and so it didn’t register with him anymore. His focus was almost solely on the girl who was ferrying him around. It was nice not to have to pretend to be a backpack on an unwilling victim.

”What about you? I reckon a heavy weapon such as yourself must have a strong meister”

‘I do’

Answered Sockface happily, and without thinking. After a moment his stomach flipped as he realised what he was saying.

‘Ah, Aye mean, did... Thaht was a long time ago.’

The living doll quietened slightly. It had been a long time since he had called up memories of his former partner. It was still painful to think about. He’d tried so hard to stop the witch, but in the end (or so he heard) she’d eaten Mac. Mac had been so afraid by the time Sockface had told him to flee. The sweat had started his makeup running, and he had been shaking from the strain of weathering attacks. Sockface had known, subconsciously, that they had lost. It hadn’t been a good feeling. The knowledge of his own impending death, and that of his partner, the excruciating pain of slowly being crushed... The living doll shuddered slightly.

‘Aye wasnae always made of material an’ stoofin ye ken.’

They came to a small dead end section of a park. There were park benches there that were often destroyed and rebuilt. Graffiti in Shibusen often took on more of a destructive bent due to the excess energies of its students and their unique... abilities. Luckily however, the school had long ago seen fit to hire a team of builders who had semi-magical powers of restoration. A park bench, the them, was half an hour’s work at most. Sockface elaborated on his position,

‘Aht the moment Ahm a little... En betwin partners. That is teh sey, I don’t have one. Fer a while ah lost mah weapon form, and things dinnae work oot fer me as a meister. Noo Ah’m lucky enou’ to have regained mah full transformation.’

OOC

I took them to the bench area in case you were thinking of showing off Lucy’s powers =] I hope that’s ok.

Lucy stopped as they reached the benches, dusted off the wood with a sleek hand then sat down, crossing her legs as any proper lady in a skirt would. Shibusen was turning out to be quite a nice place as far as Lucy was concerned, as long as one managed to stay clear of the idiots that was.

Placing the book down on the bench next to her, she stretched her arm out, her fingers touching the bench so to allow Sockface to walk or jump down if he wished, rather than being lifted down. She couldn’t quite manage to twist her mind around the idea of being a human soul trapped in a stitched up rag doll such as him, but a part of her still told her that it was the polite thing to do to treat him as she would’ve treated anyone else. And that included the option of moving if he wanted to, rather than being moved simply because he was small enough to be picked up.
She imagined it all too easy to see him as a toy, when he was in no way as fluffy as he might look at first glance. And she could easily picture it a source of frustration.

Moving her hands to rest on her knees, the pink haired girl leaned forward slightly and adjusted herself so that she could rest her chin in her hand. Her arm resting with the elbow on her knee as she sat like that.
”Things don’t always work out the way we planned them” Lucy said after a bit, titling her head to the side so that she could look over at Sockface, a few bangs of pink hair having fallen down into her face. ”All too many give up, but a few have the heart to keep fighting even when they’ve lost everything. That’s a rare quality, and a great strength”
The girl nodded her head slightly at him. ”And you’re a hell of a lot stronger than you look. No offence” she added with a slight chuckle before twirling her gum around her tongue again.

She gazed at him again for a moment or two like she’d one before, still deeply fascinated with him. The bubble forming on her lips and disappearing with a distinct pop sound as she straightened up and patted her hands on her knees.
There was a lot of things she wanted to ask, but even though she was often both blunt and overly curious, she’d been brought up to be well mannered and polite, something which only seemed to kick in under the right circumstances mind you, but which had currently convinced her that if she wanted to know more, she’d have to wait until he felt it appropriate to tell.

”So the meister way didn’t work out for you and you’ve had a bit of bad luck in the past with partners. I can see that being a bit discouraging, but....”
Lucy reached up and brushed a strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind a pierced ear.
”Despite what has happened, might you consider becoming someone's weapon partner again?”
The question seemed to linger in the air for a moment.
"I'd show you my paint trick?" the girl smirked, fishing a white crayon from her belt.

Jumping to the bench, Sockface turned back in time to see Lucy sitting down. She had a contemplative expression on her face. It was a little hard to tell, as he’d only just met her, but contemplative definitely seemed to be the description the weapon would favour. After a moment of silence Lucy spoke. Her words were carefully chosen, but honest and delivered without the kind of melodramatic tone that would have cheapened them. The doll struggled with his perception of her once again; the words sounded too adult coming out of her face. The weapon had never really felt like he was soldiering on. He simply had nothing else he was good at. No one wanted a stuffed toy working as a ‘check-out chick’ in a supermarket. No one wanted him preparing food. He was too scary to be trusted with children, or even the elderly. He wasn’t intimidating enough to be a guard. The only place he could still find gainful employment was Shibusen, and if he didn’t find employment then he’d never move out of home and away from his nagging mother. He was about to tell this to Lucy (except the fact that he was 26 and still living at home, which would be the height of embarrassment) when she continued,

”Despite what has happened, might you consider becoming someone's weapon partner again?”

Partners? With a person he’d just met? Sockface had heard of it happening before. Sometimes two people just had extremely compatible wavelengths, and sometimes the meister was adept at the scythe, or sword, and so they chose a weapon straight away to play to their strengths. It just hadn’t happened to him or anyone he knew. The weapon felt he should encourage Lucy to go to Shibusen and attend a month of lectures before she started thinking about a partner. He should have told her that she was smart and perceptive and all the rest of it, and that she would practically have her pick of the armoury. Despite his better half telling him that it was selfish when Lucy could do a lot better, his selfish side whispered that it was unlikely he’d find anyone willing to take on a weapon as troublesome as a large anchor. No blades, no partial transformation and no human body would all equal no interest. When his mind had calmed down, he realised that she hadn’t actually asked him if he wanted to be a partner. If he’d had lungs he would have let out a sigh, although be it of disappointment or relief, even he wouldn’t have been able to say.

‘Ah... ah... of course. Aye go teh Shibusen because et’s the only thing Ah’m gud fer. Ah dinnae get back mah partial transformation an’ ahm no where as skilled in martial arts as I shuld be te run solo, so Ah’m always lookin’ fer a partner. Ah keep hopin’ thaht when Ah’m sent on missions weth people thaht they’ll turn oot compatible weth meh, boot so far no one is thaht interested.’

Although Lucy hadn’t heard his earlier mental confusion he was overly verbose to cover his embarrassment. The weapon didn’t think he’d ever talked so much, not even when he’d been a normal teenager... well there had been the few times he’d attempted to ask girls out on dates. He wasn’t interested in that sort of thing anymore (it rather came with the territory of being a genderless stuffed toy), but talking to potential team mates had proven just as difficult. Never-the-less, he was older now so he shouldn’t get so tongue tied when talking to a meister, right? Before his better judgement could stem the flow of the dialogue vomit he had continued,

‘If yeh ever wanted te go on a mission weth me Ah’d be happy te ... I mean if yeh dinnae... If ye needed... I mean dinnae, I mean... uh, have?’ The doll paused for a moment, trying to abide by the ever wise advice of ‘think before you speak’, before hurriedly changing the subject. ‘I thought ye war goin’ te show me yeh trick. Yeh’d better do et before ah shove mah foot any farther doon mah throat.’

Hastily the living doll removed his hand from Lucy to prevent further babble, scratching his head with it somewhat self-consciously. Real subtle, he told himself sarcastically. It was almost funny, really, how badly it was handled, but he’d probably have to wait a week or two before he could laugh at himself rather than cringe with the horror of his own inept socialising. Quickly Sockface made way for Lucy, moving so that he could get a better view of what she was doing. He didn’t want to miss whatever it was she was doing, even if his stuffing was churning slightly from mortification.

The pink haired girl chuckled, a smile on her lips as she got up. The little guy, it was difficult not to think of him as a little guy simply due to his appearance, was polite although seemed to have a bit of a problem getting his words arranged into the right order. Lucy couldn’t blame him though, they’d only just met and she’d have been surprised if he’d just leapt at the mere idea of it.
Finding the right partner for any meister or weapon was at times a difficult process, not only did you need to be compatible soul wavelength speaking or well, at least that was an advantage, but you actually had to get along. You couldn’t just pick up any partner and hope it worked out, specially not if you weren’t on wavelength personality wise. Lucy actually figured a clash of personalities as a bigger challenge to overcome than a clash of soul wavelengths. Training and discipline could overcome many obstacles, but though someone could learn to resonate different wavelengths, changing one’s personality was about as easy as moving a mountain using chop sticks.

Lucy twirled the crayon between her fingers before hunching down next to the bench, slowly tracing the crayon across the ground to form a circular pattern.
”The pattern is meant as a focus” she explained, elaborating the circular pattern with a five pointed star at its center before continuing with the outer ring. ”Like a lens it’s mean to focus energy and concentrate it into a single point. Each symbol helps stabilize a certain fragment of the energy pattern, helps it become more unison, if that makes sense”

A few more twists and turns of the crayon across the ground and Lucy seemed satisfied with the results. Pulling her hand back she rested her arms on her elbows and eyed the symbol. It was fairly intricate, and she’d explained less than half of it but going into greater detail about how it worked required more than a few minutes.
It had taken her years to perfect it, years to understand and actually utilize it the way she’d wanted to, and even then she knew of no simple way of explaining it all. If he wanted to he could get to read her notes, but those consisted of enough paperwork to cover a masters’ degree or possibly two so that might be out of the question unless he was a more dedicated reader than she was.

”Unlike a lens that can focus any kind of light though, this pattern can only focus my energy. It was designed for that one purpose, to anyone else it’s likely to do jack” she finished, raising her gaze to look up at Sockface still sitting on the bench.
”Oh, and if you really do mean what you said. The comprehensible part of it at least, then yes, I’d love to find out just how compatible we’d be as a team”

With that Lucy reached out and placed the tip of her index finger in the center of the circle. There was a sudden surge of energy and for very brief moment it felt as if the air around her hand was electrified. Then, without warning, the energy shot downwards into the pattern like a bolt of lightning towards a tree, exploding upon contact with the hard surface, causing the ground to crack and shatter and leaving behind an impact pattern as if a heavy cannon ball had just been dropped onto it.

It all happened in the blink of an eye, yet the energy was so dense for that brief moment it was as if one could have been able to touch it had they reached out. As soon as it was done though, it was as if it had never existed. The shattered ground and fragmented pieces of Lucy’s circle the only visible remains that it ever existed in the first place. A slowly fading dust cloud fading on the wind as it brushed across the ground like a slithering snake.
