The town was a fishing village, where the children were taught in a school that was both small and rustic, but half the time they would skip school to go out fishing with their fathers or brothers, to learn the tricks of the trade. Every now and then, refrigerated trucks would transport fish too and from the village to take them to markets and the like, and it was in this way that the villagers would live, bronzed and blonde from the sun, with smiling countenances and a joy in their work. They were often seen without shirts on and wearing nothing but trousers or a sarong and due to their seaside lifestyle were often covered in a fine layer of salt.

The houses in the village were all old with peeling paint, and often repaired with bits of driftwood. In any case the villagers often spent the night under the stars and the houses were rarely used for anything other than food preparation, and even then, only occasionally. In this way, it was the case that sometimes up to 2~3 families shared a house, occasionally sleeping in the cramped quarters when the weather was too vile to take a kip in their boats or under a gnarled tree. In the town there was a residential sort of area that reached right up to the seaside, but the main attraction was a small high street with an all purpose store, a boating shed (the largest and finest building in the entire town) and a school. From that street, there was a short walk to the pier, through a scraggly area of bushland.

Recently, however, the little town had been suffering a spate of attacks from the ocean they loved so dearly. Men had been dragged overboard, women had been throttled in their houses (the ones closest to the ocean) and dragged into the sea. Children had disappeared without any indication that they had been taken. Eventually rumours had fearfully spread about a ‘mermaid’ that was dragging people into watery graves, and attacking them with seaweed, to catch at them in a cloying embrace. The fishermen had gone from hunter to prey, and no one was quite sure what to do. Eventually Shibusen had been called, and they had sent a lone weapon and a meister/weapon team.

The team was still investigating, but while they were in the town, the mermaid refused to strike, and so they had been left waiting, for two weeks now. The lone weapon often went out on lone missions to do ... lonely things, but the meister/weapon pair had happily become a part of goings on in the village, and had learned the basics of net repair and fishing, and were happily making themselves useful. Everything seemed to be slowly returning to normal, and the group from Shibusen had promised not to leave until the problem was solved. They would stick it out as long as it took to make sure the little village was safe from harm.

Coming across this village was by accident. Both Cruun and Akavia were flying over when they saw this town. It seemed quaint and simple, with the people living peacefully from where they saw. It was right next to an ocean, which would suggest they had a booming fishing industry. Fishers use rods and hooks, nothing too fancy, everything sickeningly primitive. Cruun knew this would be the perfect place to get some easy souls, but of course both of them couldn't drop from the sky.

------

They were on the ground near the outskirts of the town. Cruun was busy being sick. He had never flown before and it made him nausous. what was worse was that he had to hold on to Akavia so he couldn't fall. He hated contact that wasn't of the violent nature or gory nature. It could always be misconstrued as being affectionate and Cruun didn't believe in affections towards other.

He stood there thinking his plan of attack. His left sleeve was back to covering his left hand as his right hand passed through his hair. It's good that Akavia looks young. We can pretend to be brother and sister. He looked over towards her. Her small figure and childish face was perfect, even if she was the age of a grandma. "Tho gramma, we have to be able to look weak." His mouth opening wide as he talked. His teeth glistened as drool dropped from one of the jagged teeth. "My plan ith for uth to be brother and sister. I hope you play along the part... I want none to thurvive..." Cruun turned the town as he began his walk. He gripped Akavia's act as he went into his act. Oh how he detested physical contact with her and any other person.
