The taxi driver who was transporting Kye and Koji into the town found herself constantly cursing. No matter how loud she turned up the radio, the sounds of song, coming from outside, reverberated through the car in a deep tuneless melody. She had been told that in this part of the country that the hills were alive with the music of creation, but had put it down to a poetic way of saying that the countryside was pretty. Unfortunately it turned out that the hills were very much alive and singing, wandering to and fro on stubby little legs, and generally making it very difficult to actually arrive at the small town of Peune. In an attempt to block out the eerie sounds of the hills, the taxi driver had taken to singing along with the radio. This turned out to be a bad move. One rendition of Elvis’ ‘Aint nothing but a hound dog’ later and the driver had turned into a hound dog, that howled mournfully from the front seat. The car bucked out of control and crashed into a ditch on the outskirts of town (these outskirts were pink and frilly, and enormous, encompassing the entire town). The taxi driver, now hound dog continued to howl mournfully.

In the town there was chaos. On a fence out the front of one of the houses a person was sitting, who was being arrested by a pig in the outfit of a police officer, a small part of their conversation drifted on the wind;

“please, I’m just stuck here because my wife said I was sitting on the fence”

“I am (oink) arresting you for your offence!”

“Although I would certainly like a rest, I’m not off-fence, I’m on the fence,”

“No your de-fence will not aid you (oink)”

“If I could de-fence, then there would be no offence, as I’d be off the fence.”

Confusion abounded amongst the populace. In the small town graveyard the corpses were taking it in turns to kick a bucket, in the market there were grocers who were green, and in the playground there were many cases of the spontaneous combustion of pants (among other things). The school in general was surrounded by a moat of frothing water that churned and boiled.

The Shibusen pair was approached by a strange human shaped lump of what appeared to be sixes and sevens of varying colours and sizes.

“Thank goodness you came! I’ve been all at sixes and seven! You wouldn’t believe the things going on around here, the school is in a sea of trouble for a start... Oh dear, I forgot to introduce myself, I apologise. I’m the mayor of Peune, pleased to meet you,”

Suddenly a marching band poured out of the house, and started to recite a song, while the mayor danced euphorically, laughing and smiling. He finally managed to get himself under control.

“Oh dear oh dear... I mean, I am understandably relieved that you have come to fix the problem. Please remember not to be frivolous with your words.”

The marching band disappeared back into the house.

“Truly terrible and turbulent times take their toll on this town. We used to be renowned for our punning and other literary devices, and everyone was proud to uphold that tradition, but recently our puns have been turned against us! It seems like everything we say comes back to bite us in the.... ahhhh.... seems to come true in the most inconvenient of ways. We can no longer wax poetical, and we don’t know how to cope with this situation! Please help us!”

Beatrix raised her eyebrow slightly as she looked around, observing the strange events occuring in this strange place. She had been wandering without any real destination, as she did from time to time, reading a book about Greek mythology, when she heard a distant noise, a song like no other in all existance. Pursuing this noise, Beatrix found herself listening to a strange music, coming from the landscape itself, and it disturbed her in some strange way.

However, Beatrix's attention was not held by these mountainous muses for long, as she spotted what she could only describe as a humanoid creature made completely of ears. This sight caused her to worry, as she noticed the connection between the creature and the somewhat obvious phrase. Biting her lip softly, Beatrix thought about her options, but she decided it would be worth her while to investigate the source of this strange event. As she moved onward, she sighed, wishing that she had a disguise. Events this strange would certainly draw unwanted attention.

As Beatrix entered the settlement, she noticed the frilly outskirts, and sighed once more, looking around, using her Soul Perception to check for any anomolies, Kishin Eggs, and things of that variety, hoping that it would not be long before she found out what was going on. Unknown to Beatrix, she had entered the settlement at the opposite end of the area where the Shibusen students had entered, nor did she know Shibusen was involved, though it wouldn't surprise her much.

As Beatrix saw the chaos erupting in this place, a single phrase came to mind, but Beatrix kept her jaw firmly shut. If she said it, it might destroy everything, herself included. No, she'd have to keep that as a secret weapon, a last-ditch effort. She didn't even let herself think of it more than necessary, in case the trigger wasn't verbal, but mental. Everything she saw, from pigs flying to children with burning pants, to wolves covered in wool, and even a family raising a monkey, everything seemed to indicate a strange magic causing hyperbole and metaphor to become fact. Wondering what could have caused this, Beatrix continued walking around the town, trying to find some clue, unsure of whether or not to risk talking to someone.

Kye was freaked out by all that was going on. From the driver that became a dog, to the 6s-and-7s, nothing made sense at all. Upon hearing the mayor, he told the man, "Don't worry dude! We've got this one in the-" about to say bag, he cupped his hands over his mouth. He didn't want to end up like anyone here. A large drop of sweat came from the back of his head, as he said, "Sorry."

He left the rest of the talking to Koji. Instead he just peered at his surroundings. The first thing that came to his mind was, Whatever you do, don't lie to those kids by the playground. Among all this, he almost wanted to laugh, despite the obvious insanity. It seemed kind of funny to see a 'pig cop' or 'flaming pants'.

Koji then crossed his arms as he examined the area. All of the chaos and turmoul here was unbelievable. This was very interesting, Driving dogs, A Pig for an officer, and Walking numbers. He then looked around again for any signs of Kishin eggs. Since He didn't sense any immediate danger Koji closed his eyes and sighed "Hmmm so it's seems that we need to think before we speak. Sounds simple enough, but I should not judge a-- Nevermind. I will complete this mission by not speaking unless it is of the utmost importance." He thought glaring at Kye out of the corner of his eye "I hope he doesn't screw this up" Koji thought again as he turned to the mayor "Mission accepted, But can you give us more info to go on?" He started "When did this start? Was there a certain spot where many of these incidents occured?"

“Reach for the sky ‘cos this is a stick up! ...”

A man had rushed out of an alleyway and was desperately pointing a gun in Beatrix’s direction. As the unfortunate man spoke the gun was replaced with a stick. Noticing his error the man swore,

“crap!”

A strange expression crossed his face and he dropped the stick. He started trying to waddle away with a strange and disturbing gait, when he was stopped by a second would be thief.

“what’d you say? No, actually... I don’t want to know”

This thief seemed to be more intelligent, and he raised his own gun at Beatrix.

“You shouldn’t try anything, because you seem to be a bit of a butterfingers. Now listen to me, little miss, and no one needs to get hurt. Give me your valuables, or I will shoot you, understand? I’m the big man here.”

With that he seemed to grow until he was taller than both Beatrix, and his associate, but seemed to be expecting the change, and wasn’t alarmed, in fact it seemed to be a tactic that he had adopted after the absurdities of town had allowed him to use words as weapons.

-------------------------------------------

“Yes I can, this all started a few months ago, but when it started there weren’t many incidents, but the problem appears to be getting worse and worse. I don’t think there is a ... centre as such... but we know that it doesn’t happen outside of town. Any effects that happen as a result of words can be removed if you go outside of town... actually that’s where I was going now. I suppose if you were looking for the worst area, it would be the library, but that’s because of all the books and words and such in it I suppose? I really must be heading off, because I can’t wander around all sixes and sevens today, I have duties to attend as a mayor.”

The mayor suddenly shuddered and turned into a mare. He looked down at himself and sighed heavily.

“Well this is troublesome, but at least I’ll reach the town’s edge faster. Good-day!”

And he galloped away. The library lay towards the centre of town, and there was a helpful sign (it was quite literally helpful, in sensing where you wanted to go it would immediately show you in whatever language you spoke, which direction to travel in) that was directing the way to a number of important locations. There was the library, the market, the park, and the school. All public areas, and all areas where someone might carry out nefarious deeds in some secluded area.

sorry for the short post, I'm just here to direct the flow of the thread though really, so feel free to take some of the initiative, and describe places, sights, and interactions. Have some fun, that sort of thing.

Kye smiled. This seemed kind of fun. He didn't want to waste any time getting to the library. He needed some pun practice anyways. As the mayor walked away Kye said, "Don't worry Mr. Mayor! We'll be at the library in no time!"

As he had promised, Kye and Koji were at the library as soon as Kye finished the sentence. The library was like a large cube, about 50x50x50 feet. One each side there was a single purple door. The rest of the building was painted white. Seeing this strange place, Kye opened one of the doors. There were millions of books inside.

Beatrix tensed as she heard someone approaching her, but she started laughing as the man's cliched lines backfired on him almost immediately, and he ran off replaced by a second man. However, Beatrix's humor vanished entirely as she felt her fingers transmuted. Not daring to look down, shuddering, Beatrix turned to face him, watching him grow. Her patience quickly was cut back down, as she noticed this. The wordplay magic was being used as a weapon, and against her no less. Not exactly smart, given how her patience had already been tested time and again lately. "You worthless fool! Compared to me, you are but a tiny ant, not even worthy of being a smear on my boot!"

Beatrix stood there, glaring daggers at him, arms at her sides. She didn't know exactly how she would repair the damage he had done to her, but she hoped she would not need her hands until then, and hoped that she didn't lose any of her fingers during the time they were like this. Her hands, after all, were very much important in her life, as hands were to most of those who had them. However, for now, her primary concern was to continue living, not what she would do after. She awaited the possible change, hoping that her own words wouldn't betray her, as the first thief's had betrayed him. The magic here is going to be very difficult to manage, it seems...
